The pirate simply pointed at the axes hanging at his belt.

"I got me axes, yarr. I'm not blowing these up, though!"

2087
"Okay, then. Let me, uh, let me summon the powers of the ring..." Ethan formed a fist with his hand and pointed the ring at the dummy, shaking his hand a bit.

"Good to hear. I wish your village... peace, and prosperity, elder Zozka."

The Prince has left the building!

And almost bumped right into someone's face.

"..."

"...yes?"

"Erm... are you... where are you headed, may I ask?" The Prince thought for a moment.

"Well, my goal is Nelestia, but this little side hunt is taking us north-ish, so far. I'm pretty sure we will be heading to Firstport to catch a ship headed westward." Orf's eyes lit up momentarily.

"Can I go with you, then? I mean, to Firstport, not Nelestia." The Prince thought for a while longer, looked at his companions, then back at Orf.

"...may I know your reasons?" Orf let out a deep sigh.

"I, I'm an orphan, and to be honest I have no one or nothing left here. My dad died last spring. My friends died today. I've been sleeping in Enys' shed for most of the past year out of his generosity, but now his family and ex-girlfriend hate me for... you know. Living here would be even worse than previously. I have an uncle who's a blacksmith in Firstport. I'm not a crafts guy but I could try out a new job there or something. At worst, I will have some sort of family there. Look, I'm not trying to fetch an escort for free. You know I can fight! I can do other useful tasks, too. I can also, like... take people's items without them noticing..."

"...really?"

"And, uh, I can open doors and boxes that are usually, you know, locked..."

"..."

"..." Prince Aland looked at his friends, thought about the proposal for a moment, and then smiled.

"Alright, I'm up for taking you in. As long as Casslan, Ivy and Argos agree to it. They're my friends and trusted companions, so I'm going to hear their counsel first."

//Take in Orf the Troublemaker, yea or nay? All can speak up but the chosen trio's decisions will matter the most!

"But what if the ring IS for blowing things up? You are prepared for that, no?"

You acquiesce to the prodding to marry Hele Magbeseh.

The news soon spread and the court is very pleased to hear the news, but the commonfolk, of course, pays little attention to it. The wedding is set for Mid-Autumn.

801 NWE, Midsummer

News come from the far west; apparently, Rugian soldiers sent there were essential in scoring some important victories. Their current employers speak highly of them and some of the leading officers have been heaped both praise and personal wealth by the westerners.

801 NWE, Autumn

Two groups of people wish for an audience with you!

One is several courtiers, responsible for arrangements of your wedding. The other is a group of mayors and village elders from the north.

A) Let's talk about wedding preparations first.
B) Let's talk with the visitors from Rug's north first.

You agree to send some of your soldiers abroad. The diplomats bow in gratitude.

"Our lords will send the tribute of copper and silver by the end of this year, King Bubba!" They leave happily as you give out order to find adventurous men amongst your soldiers and send few hundred of the to the west.

801 NWE, Mid-Spring

An almost thousand strong company has marched westwards, to fight for the western chiefs in return for their wealth.

801 NWE, Summer

"...and given her education by New Church, she could make a splendid wife and a capable queen, your Majesty." The Advisor finishes extoiling the virtues of Hele Magbeseh. It's one of your supporter's daughters and she has been reportedly very smart and very well educated in ways of religion and mathematics.

During the rebellion you've met her and you can say she is rather unpleasant looking. He scrawny hair is barely neck-length, black birthmarks dot her hands and neck, and nasty red splotches cover one side of her face. Not to mention that she is about twice the width of you.

But as the days pass, both the Advisor and your closest noblemen loudly mention that it would be a good match for you.

A) Nope!
B) Well, sure.
C) Try to find a way out of this possible marriage arrangement...

You decide to man up and just live in poorly heated bedchamber.

800 NWE, Midwinter

Quote
1hahahaha

Your habits finally culminate in a terrible, feverish disease that makes you bedridden.

This causes a great unease amongst the populace, who are not very keen to hear the news.

The disease continues to wreck your body, and the healers are worried that you might be developing a tendency for getting sick.

They're, unfortunately, quite right.

Congratulations! Bubba has gained Sickly negative trait!

800 NWE, End of the Year

Bedridden and barely counscious, you are visited by the Advisor, bringing the Scrolls of Kingdom Status for your perusal.

Happiness: 3
Population: 6
Economy: 3
Army: 4

"The population is getting anxious about your health, your Majesty." The old man says, stroking his beard.

"Both the New Church and priests of Old Gods are praying for your swift recovery."

801 NWE, Spring

Quote

Your recover from the feverish disease after three months of suffering.

The pains in your chest and the ease with which you catch a cold, however, will be a constant reminder of your weakness.

A group of delegates from small chiefdoms in the west have arrived with an economically advantageous proposal, the guards say.

"Our chiefs and lords are fighting against an assembly of peoples who deem themselves superior to us." The leading diplomat says, bowing his head in respect towards you. "We've heard that you and your mighty armies have recently overthrown the tyrant who ruled this country, so we wish to ask whether you would be interested in providing men to fight against the vile Council of Chessia. Of course, the copper and silver of our lands will be given to you as a reward for your soldiers' brave deeds."

A) "Money for blood? Count me in!"
B) "Money for blood? Disgusting! Begone at once!"

You outlaw consumption of beefnuts at the palace out of concerns that they might be dangerous to the courtiers' lives!

800 NWE, Winter

Brr! It's exceptionally cold this winter.

Or, its just you, unable to withstand the cold of the snowy months.

What's the best way to warm oneself?

A) By feeding the fireplace a bit more, obviously.
B) By getting a warm body beside me, obviously.
C) By drinking some mulled herb wine, obviously.
D) By stopping to complain so much, obviously!

"Bep of what?"

"Bep of Rushia!" The Advisor scoffs. "Don't you know the tale of Bep of Rushia? Youngsters these days..." The Advisor sighs overy dramatically.

"King Bep of Rushia ascended to the throne at age of fifteen. For thirty years, he has toiled to build a strong economy, foster good ties with some neighbours and conquer some others. Always busy, always doing something, he didn't marry or have a heir for all those thirty years, always saying 'I've still got time!' to the courtiers pestering him about. Finally, nearing his fifties, he decided to think about having a family."

"Did he get one?"

"No, because one faithful day, when munching on his favorite beefnuts, he choked on one and died, leaving Kingdom of Rushia without a leader."

"I never heard of Kingdom of Rushia..."

"Because it got wiped off the maps by late Bep's siblings, uncles, rebellious vassals and scheming enemies, all wanting a piece of the Kingdom for themselves. Do you understand the importance of this story, sire?"

A) "That I've got thirty years of bright future before me!"
B) "That I should get a heir. Fine, tell the court I need a wife, then."
C) "That beefnuts are a dangerous snack and should be forbidden for consumption!"

You decide to put money and valuables upon the altar-stones of the Old Gods, and, in presence of the Deer-faces and Water-men and other priests, beg for forgiveness over being so slow in paying for the Gods' providence.

Your tribute was a valid choice! The comet moved away from the near-skies, and within just two weeks, its tiny red spot was undistinguishable from all other stars on the night sky.

800 NWE, Autumn

"You should marry as soon as possible." Says the Advisor while you munch on your night meal.

"Do you know what befalls monarchs who delay marriage and siring of heirs? They follow the footsteps of your distant ancestor, Bep, King of Rushia."

A) "I'm only twenty, I still have time."
B) "Fine then, tell the court I am in need of a wife."
C) "Bep of what?"

You forbid the lordling from interfering with the dwarves' mining underneath the lands.

The nobleman leaves unhappy, the dwarf smiles.

"Good choice, human king." He says rather ominously and also leaves.

800 NWE, Summer

Terrible news! A comet has been sighted in the skies above Rug!

The bright fireball with a tongue of red and gold trailing behind it is so bright it is keeping people awake at night.

Priests of the New Church claim this a bad omen to your ascension, while the commonfolk believe the Old Gods have not been paid a tribute in return for your swift and successful victory over your uncle.

You decide to...

A) Do nothing.
B) Donate to the churches of the New God, asking Him to reverse this bad omen.
C) Deliver tribute upon altar-stones of the Old Gods, asking them for forgiveness.

800 NWE*

You are Bubba, the new King of Rug!

This small nation of plains and forests have long suffered at the hands of your uncle-slash-cousin-thrice-removed, who levied high taxes, made his way with peasant maidens, and was generally unpleasant to have around.

So you and your friends rallied those suffering from his rule and while his body is being dumped in a ditch somewhere, you are crowned as a king. Your martial ability allowed you to easily triumph against your late uncle's supporters and militias (not that many of them decided to stand against you).

Kingdom of Rug enjoys a great population of peasants and artisans alike, its cities and settlements being envy of many neighbours for decades.

Here comes the Advisor, an old man who was in charge of state affairs while your uncle did his thing. He brings the fabled Scrolls of Kingdom Status for your perusal.

Happiness: 4
Population: 6
Economy: 4
Army: 4

Those mystical numbers look crazy to you and the Advisor's confusing babbling doesn't help. Oh well!

You will learn as you go, hopefully.

800 NWE, Spring

A minor lordling came to complain, alongside with a pudgy, hairy, dwarf alongside him.

"My liege! This dwarf and his family has been found digging tunnels under the soil of my land in search for ore and gemstones!" The dwarf curses the man in dwarvish, then plants his hands on his waist while staring at you.

"Human aware of human law, yes? Dwarves under, humans above, is the ancient law. Forefathers agreed to it. If he does not dig for metal, then why keep it off our hands?" He scoffs.

You decide to...

A) Forbid the dwarf from mining any further.
B) Forbid the lordling from interfering with work of the people of the underworld.
C) Offer to negotiate between the two, perhaps to establish a sharing of profits?

"No, we, we usually bring tools from the village... we have no caretaker here."

"Hmmh. Then it is best we depart for the village. Adrienne and Ivy will accompany me. Orf, do you know the short way?"

"Oh, through the fields, yeah."

"Then lead us, please."

"But..." The youth glanced at the angsty girl.

"Sorry for being blunt, but you can't help here. Let's go."

"..."

Three hours later, Whitesmoke village, at Elder Zozka's house...

A great feeling of despair and mourning befell the villagers for obvious reason. But the Prince and his five companions were now having a chat with the elderly leader of the village.

"Yesh, our village's gonna die out at this rate... first them adults, then the kids..."

"Apologies that we weren't able to rescue your villagers. I wasn't quick enough."

"Nah, nah... nobody expects to be fightin' walking corpses by noon. Not you, not them kids..."

"..."

"But, muh Prince, you wanted to talk about this?"

"Well, no, actually. Is there a Hestian garrison or a road fort nearby? One that we could visit today?"

"Eh, yesh, yesh there is! You just go back to them crossroads and march northwards. There's be Smoketower, is small but they soldiers patrol them roads."

"Do they have horses?"

"Yesh, I think so, yesh, I've seen them riding back and forth the road few times..."

"I see. Thank you." Prince Aland stood up from the stool he was occupying.

"Won'tchu stay for a cup of hot brew at least?"

"Apologies, but we must depart as soon as possible. Or, well, to be honest, I want to get my hands on this 'Sir Purplecloak' as soon as possible." The Prince turned to his companions. "Are you ready to depart?"
