@Colt

There were few excerpts on magical gemstones of the old times that granted wishes. One was about Stone of Power, other about Crystal of Wishes, and other about Wishing Pearl of South Coast. The book had paragraphs on what happened to these gemstones:

"And great Fubbar raised the stone toward the heavens and with his single word an army of ghosts appeared and they have razed the town of Alberqun, and then the town of Rabban, and finally the town of Pocco before Lord Avalon have struck down the vile necromancer. The stone of vile Fubbar was then taken by four mages and crushed to dust and ether with a mighty silver hammer."

"Upon seizure of the treasury of the corrupt Deragont, seventh Duke of Cadus peninsula, the mages have found a pink Crystal of Wishes. It has been taken to the royal treasury in Ture and kept there, until the treasury burned down in Year 694 of Rivan Calendar. During the chaos of the fire, this Crystal along with many books on dark magic is thought to have perished or stolen by the unfaithful servants."

"Baron Lavyerque have added the Wishing Pearl of the South Coast to his crest shortly after the Third Battle of York in Year 625 of Rivan Calendar, which now bears both of the Souleating Lions climbing over the enlarged image of the Wishing Pearl, and since then it was passed from father to son as family heirloom that is to be used only in times of great peril, as the crystal's powers can move people from place to place instantly."

@O'Connor:

"There might be, however, I would like to see your seal or permit first." The elder opened his hand and waited for the credentials.

@Halldora:

There were plenty of books about Eferia that Halldora could choose from: "Conflicts of Eferia", "Wars of Southern Kingdoms," "Unification of the South; Book IV - Eferia and Ysmir", and "On Royal Customs of Ancient Eferian Kingdom" and "Genealogies of Post-Unification Rivan Empire".

There was no single book that had a title at least closely related to Jewel of Wishing.

However there were three promising books... 'On Ancient Gemstones', a book written over century ago, 'Lost and Found - Magical Devices Appearing in History', a recent compilation almost two hundred pages long, and a small booklet called 'Lack of Signature - On Strange Artifacts and their Even Stranger Creators'.

@Colt:

There were several sub-sections, some spanning several bookshelves... 'General Magic Knowledge,' 'Magical Theory Treatrises' 'Arcane&Alchemy' 'Magical Artifacts' 'Dark and Light Magicks' and the last, smallest section on 'Magical Creatures'

Oh well I might as well post here...

  • Had disturbing, perverted, complex dreams of fantasy worlds and thus gained more inspiration for FEF and NEF projects.
  • Woke up and found out I'm still alive.
  • Made scrambled eggs with some salami and dried mushrooms and a bit of onions and found out I'm not that bad at this. Actually, it was delicious!

@Archives:

"Your seal, or permit?"

"Here it is. These are my colleagues and we're on a journey of study." Eleonore handed the parchment. The elder looked at the trio, Halldora especially and her militant gear. Then he looked over the permit and from under the counter he procured a stamp. He made a crimson mark on the parchment and hid it under the counter.

"Personally I'm looking for some maps and geography treatrises about last three hundred years." The elder coughed and looked to the side, where there was a staircase and two pairs of doors behind it. The staircase led to an open mid-floor, and the massive bookshelves were visible even from here.

"Left door is the section on magic. Artifacts are two last bookshelves inside. History section is upstairs, on the left, and geography is just next to it, on the right."

"Thank you very much. Come, Halldora." With that, Eleonore swiftly moved to the staircase and began to climb up.

@Einar:

"Hmph. If that's your wish."

@Iron Pike:

The smithy inside quickly procured a list of available weapons for Jorund and Cidney.

@Einar:

"Oh... I don't make staves." Zenith looked dissappointed no matter Einar's assurances. "The Arcane University of Ankamorpo has a staff workshop. It's two days south of here if you have a horse." Zenith mumbled out and then snapped his fingers.

"If you leave my workshop and go down there road there's this... this... chapel or somesuch. I'm pretty sure I heard my colleague say that his priestly companion bought a healing staff there. It's, it's, ah, I think there's a stone relief depicting, hmm..." Zenith rubbed his chin, mumbling something under his nose.

"A woman holding moon and sun in her hands? Yes... yes I think that's the relief above the chapel's door. I don't know what's that cult about, what kind of self-respecting modern man believes in such superstitions like deities? ...anyways, you sure you don't need a charm? Perhaps to make a cute lady fall for you, or make an enemy catch a nasty fever? I can do that and much more!"

@Einar:

The enchanter's shop was rather small. The room that door opened to was sparsely furnished - barely a counter and a stool on which the enchanter was sitting; an average man in dark blue robe.

"Greetings! Cheap weak enchantments or powerful yet pricey ones, beneficial charms or hideous hexes, Zenith shall provide!"

"I could go to the garrison and unless you want to tag along, you will have to look around the shops by yourselves. Each enterprise have a sign above the door and the name of the premises written on the doorframe. The local weaponsmith has a workshop called 'The Iron Pike' and the fletcher is 'Margoth and Son' if I recall correctly. There are two apothecaries, ran by the same group of healers. Their names are... hmm, 'Medicine of the Coast' is one. I do not remember the other one, though. The enchanter is simply 'Zenith's' and the seller of magical books have something about a Dragon or Wyvern in the shop's name. I'm pretty sure you're intelligent bunch and will be able to find these shops. I will try to be back as soon as possible." With that, Altmorin took off with a sprint.

You can now visit all of the mentioned shops simply by writing an action involving its name.

"I remember that too but we didn't even reach the garrison before Prince Asoth told me to return. So I can't tell you anything about it. Same for the healing staves - we mostly use medicine today. I think we would first need to find a priest or magician of some sort that makes them." Altmorin thought for a moment.

"Or we can ask the enchanter. Even if he does not make these staves, he should know where to get some."

"Well then... Halldora wanted to go, and Colt seems prepared. I think it will be allright if you go with Jorund, Nerea."

The Princess turned to Altmorin.

"Can you take us to the Archives?"

"Of course. Prince Asoth had a Scholar's Permit hastily written for you." Altmorin handed a small parchment to confused Eleonore.

"Scholar's Permit?"

"Yes. If you're not of nobility or attendee of a magical university, you cannot enter the Archives to read books." Eleonore took a moment to draw a conclusion.

"...You mean most of people in the Empire are illiterate? But--"

"Emperor Revus the Second once said, 'Literate peasantry is dangerous peasantry'. Even today we still adhere to his strict rules on literacy and book-keeping." Altmorin moved down the street and Eleonore followed, waving at her companions to follow. She then rubbed her forehead a little.

"Oh, the things I'm hearing... Eternal Guardian, give me strength to bear with this madness." Altmorin coughed and Eleonore didn't say a word more.

---

The walk took a few minutes and few turns around the corner and the group stopped in front of rather large building with ornate roof that had at least five, if not more, little towers.

"The archives of this city. You might not find book on every subject of your interest, but the collection is quite large, for sure. If anything, you can always consult with the bookkeepers. I understand that only few of you are going to read books - where should I take the rest?"

"Yes. The rest is to find supplies and get new weapons and accessories. Could you take them to few shops?" Eleonore then opened the door leading inside the building and beckoned to Colt and Halldora to follow.

@Outside peoples:

Altmorin watched them go and then turned toward the rest.

"Where do you want to go first?"

@Colt&Halldora:

Eleonore sneezed a little as heavy cloud of library dust attacked her nostrils. This woke up a pudgy, short, elderly man with lengthy white beard sitting behind a counter.

"Can I help you?" Eleonore quickly turned to Halldora and Colt.

"I'm going to look at the local maps and learn about the Empire. Halldora, please take a look into history books... I remember Asoth saying something about Eferia being three hundred years in the past? So please concentrate on these dates. Colt, I would like you to check books on magical artifacts. See if there's any mention of the current location of Jewel of Wishing."

"Yes. I was asking who can read - those who can could come with me to the Archives and read on history books and magic and maybe even that Jewel that brought us here... so we might find way home..."
