"I don't think we have time left for that." Irene grimaced. THere was some rustle as hooded people emerged from the woods, behind and in front of the mercenaries.
"Those aren't simple bandits..." The blonde lady spoke quietly to himself, her grimace only deepening.
"Great, the girl cannot escape us now. Remember, the blonde is as important as the letters she is carrying. Do whatever you can to stop her... I mean, er." He looked at the pink-haired guy nearby.
"I mean, the bad guys on the road are carrying dangerous papers, so, uh, I would be happy if you could dance and invigorate our guys, Candy." The spy master looked as the dancer pranced away.
"Why did we even... wait a moment. Adalbart?"
"Didn't you say your father is dealing with certain kind of court 'boy' slaves and such?"
"It's nothing, really." Morse looked at Candy, who already was quite far away.
"Just thinking."
"I'm glad you remember me. When Derick was wandering with me and Joz and others, he mentioned you several times, but I was skeptic, I thought it was some other guy named Olison..." Matilda couldn't help but giggle a little.
"So, you're mercenary now?"
"Oh, you don't remember... then again, it's been ages." Matilda looked down for a moment, and then smiled to Olison.
"When you were still serving Ferwelk as a squire, almost a decade ago... Your unit had a pair of troubadours. The first one was a fat guy named Leon. The other was a girl, and she had her hair dyed black, but everyone in the unit knew that her real hair colour was dark blue."
"Leo, tell Sara to go to the front and put the squishy mages between me and her. We're being followed, I believe - I've noticed only a moment ago. We might be ultimately getting in a fight, very, very quickly."
"Yes, I believe our priest will be able to... fix the poison..." Suddenly, Irene slowed down and began to walk behind the group. Her body was more stiff and she clutched her lance more readily, her eyes glancing at the forest and bushes on the sides of the road.
"I've told you just now. We will be moving through a region of poisonous swamps near the coast. I know that there are no Riemondian outposts there."
"After we get to the south-eastern perimeter, we will move off the road and approach Mireos through the Murkwaters. The residual, magical waste is said to be still there. Or, at least, the land is still dead. That keeps Riemondians from setting up border checkpoints there. We will slip into Mireos unnoticed."
"I see... is that... is that Olison? Olison! You're alive! That's impossible, but you're alive!" Matilda quickly moved toward the wounded horseman.Leo just covered his face with both hands and followed alongidly wondering if this chick was a descendent of Chris.
"Allright. He never saw us passing through. Come." She turned toward the small iron gate, which yanked with a metallic crack and began to slide into the wall, the sounds of turning gears and moving chains clearly betraying how rusty they were.
"Great. Just five minutes." Irene moved toward the gatehouse, but not to the small window in the middle of the passage under the arc - she went to the door leading inside the gatehouse. When the door opened, she let out a small giggle and said something to the guard. She was let in after a moment, and the door was shut.
"Yes, let's go." That said, Irene disembarked from the boat with mercenaries in tow.
"Okay, I will need five minutes. Can you wait here and not bring unwanted attention upon yourselves?"
