"Charge! Kill the lackeys of the mad Queen!" Shouted Gragrar, insipiring his two comrades into charge.

However, Wraith Berry Smiles was quickly intercepted by Kaffehausen von Scriver wh otook the initiative. The two fought just like the others around them did. The courage in the heart of the woman surprised even Kaffehausen, who couldn't manage to land a blow on her body.

Then, Berry left Scriver behidn her and ran onto He of the Average Skill. The soldiers fought against each other valiantly, deflecting blows and dodging the strikes. It would seem that the two were evenly matched, but suddenly He stabbed forward with his sword into Berry's abdomen. The sturdy chainmail managed to cushion the blow and thus, the wound was light.

Right afterwards, Kaffehausen was attacked by the other of Princess' guards, Axe the Zombie Prez; the axe of this soldier slammed against plate armor, finally breaking through it and cutting open Scriver's left shoulder.

In the meanwhile, a one meter to the left, Stabbitystab von Overyunther and Jean Harcourt met each other in melee combat. Roaring like a lion and swinging his morning star madly, Jean tried to bash his opponent's skull into the brain. Stabbitystab skillfully dodged the attacks, and, seeing an opporunity, stabbed; the roar turned into a gurgle when Jean's heart was pierced, blood flowing freely upon the crimson carpet. Jean was dead even before Stabbitystab pulled his spear from the body.

Seeing this, Tarakai tried his chances against the wounded Wraith of Berry Smiles; but as hard as he tried, ultimately he was unable to pierce the defenses of the valiant woman, just like she couldn't land a blow upon the loyalist maceman.

After this, both groups seemingly became a little confused (or worried), because a chain of defensive stances took place; He of the Average Skill began defending his ally, Gloria Helmec I, just as she went on to protect their wounded commander, Kaffehausen von Scriver, from danger. Perry Govier, a young man with large shield, took a step away from combat and defended himself as well, seemingly afraid of fighting.

Prelude ends here; let the bloody festival begin!

No reinforcements allowed this turn!
Side B is at a slight disadvantage.

Day 118 of the First Year of the rule of Her Majesty Tatiana Brunelevich : 13th Day, 5th Month, 775 Year SFK (Since First King)

Princess Adrianna Mirolevich left her bed in a hurry, her hand instinctively reaching for a sheathed long sword that was leaning against the wall. In her long, sleeping dress, she came through the thick, wooden door leading out of her chamber, staring at quintet of her personal bodyguards. They looked slightly tired, but their eyes met with the gaze of the Princess, and she knew they are alert and ready for combat.

"Nothing to report, Princess. Queen Tatiana has yet to make her move..." Someone said, and Princess nodded with a sigh of relief following.

'This is madness. First Duke Kampf and his wife, Prince Frederick with his whole family, and week ago, Princess Vistula along with her twin newborns. So much blood... Is Tatiana mad? Is she re-enacting the ritual Bloodline Cleansing? In this time and age? Madness!' The memories of news of the slaughters amongst the closest family members of late King Jurgen made her lips twist in horror.

"Princess, please get some sleep. It's still early. Zwallenstein Keep won't fall so easily..."

"No." Adrianna shook her head, her long, blonde hair in dissarray. "Sleep is for those who live in peace."

Meanwhile, somewhere else...

"Is this going to work?" A low, but definitely feminine voice asked.

"Aye, my beloved Majesty! We put a barrel here, and a barrel here, and then use the goblin snuff to light the thing up, and then we get away, and the whole thing gets blasted up da smithereens!" A squeaky, male voice replied.

"Good work, my loyal engineer. Proceed!"

Hushed voices and quiet sounds of something heavy pushed on stone pathways. Someone uttering a curse. A chuckle, a barking noise, some grinding and more pushing. Then, many quick steps, and a hiss, then sizzle, of a small fire.

Back in the Keep...

"Mom, is everything will be okay?" A young, blonde-haired boy, no more than ten years old, asked with tired eyes. Princess Adrianna smiled softly and touched his nose.

"Of course it will be. Now, Gabriel, you are going to be a good boy and-"

A mighty explosion shook the castle; the glass in the windows crackled and burst into clouds of shards. Princess covered the screaming boy with her body, and when the alarm bell began to ring and voices were heard both outside and inside, she moved toward her wardrobe.

"Princess! The enemy snuck through the castle sewers, and broke into the inner keep, using explosives! We're under attack!" One of the bodyguards burst into the bedroom, staring at the blonde woman in the corner, who was putting on an intricate piece of metalwork, a scale mail, adorned with royal signs.

"It's Tatiana. There's no doubt. Prepare the defenses!"

Two floors below...

"Loyalist scum!"

"Lapdogs of the murderer!"

Two groups of differently clothed soldiers, five men in each group, met in a small corridor, leading to a staircase connected to the Princess' personal chambers. Said corridor has multitude of portraits on it's walls, each portrait showing one of the previous Kings or Queens; all armored, all with a weapon. Soon, the portraits will be stained with blood.

The Battle of Zwellenstein Keep have begun!

The ground in center of the fortress counts as 'wilderness'.

You must sleep inside the castle walls/keep to be protected from bogeys.

There's no Side C, silly.

DOTH ART WELCOMED TO THE MEDIEVAL FODDER, LAD!

In Medieval Fodder, all you have is DESIRE TO SLAUGHTER!

For the glory of the Empire! Or Republic! Or the Union! Or whatever you're fighting for.

It is RTD which has minimal amount of roleplay, basically only two rolls:

Hit roll, and damage roll.

Damage roll depends entirely on the weapon.

Hit roll (1d6) is more complicated:

The person who wins the roll deals damage to the player who lost the roll.
The roll, however, is modified by actions. Each player can ATTACK or DEFEND in his turn.

DEFEND'ing player doesn't retaliate in the same turn.
DEFEND'ing player gets +1 against ATTACK'ing player, but only if ATTACK'ers roll is higher.
Player who DEFENDS can use that to cover his ally from one attack.

Shields give a bonus to DEFEND'ing player just as if above rule is applied.
Shields benefit the ATTACK'ing player, with a -1 modifier.

WATCH OUT, because the defend/shield bonus will only equalize the rolls - you will never get higher roll than attacker.
The maximum of the Parry bonus is +4; if you rolled a 1 against a 6, sorry - better luck next life!

Example:
Hargh rolls a hit of 6. Phargh rolls a 3.
But, Phargh DEFENDS (+1) and is wielding a Small Shield (+2).
Thus, both rolled a '6', and the whole melee ends with few clanks instead of a gush of blood and pain-filled screaming.

In case of operating a wheel or doing something, a standard 1d6 roll will be applied as well.

THOU ART WHOM?

In Medieval Fodder, no backstories are needed. No multitudes of labels and bonuses.

All you need is:

Name: pretty obvious
Side: which side you fight for (A or B)
Skill: one of the skills, look below
HP: You start with random of 4 to 7 HP*. Rolled by GM.
Weapon: You start with random weapon*. Rolled by GM!
Armor: You start with random armor*. ROLLED BY GM!
Shield: You start with random shield. GUESS WHAT!? YES! ROLLED BY GM!

*-Those are modified (at least partially) by skill you choose!

THY FATHER TAUGHT THEE WHAT?

Skills of the game:

Agile: +1 for Parry/Block rolls.
Axemaster: +1 DMG when holding Hatchets/Axes/Battleaxes. Starts with an random Axe-type weapon.
Bluntmaster: +1 max.DMG when holding Flanged Mace/Morning Star. Starts with a random Blunt-type weapon.
Commander: Starts with weapon of his/her choose. Restricts Armor Roll to Chainmail/Plate Armor.
Healthy: Changes HP roll from 4-7 to 7-10.
Swordmaster: +1 DMG when holding Short/Long/Two-Handed Swords. Starts with a random Sword-type weapon.
Spearmaster: +1 DMG when holding Spear/Halberd. Starts with a random Spear-type weapon.
Two-handed Mastery: +1 DMG and +1 to Parry rolls when using two-handed weapon. Starts with a random two-handed weapon.

THY LEADERSHIP SHALL PROVIDE GUIDANCE TO THE MEN!

Commander can issue 'Commands' instead of attacking/defending (one command per turn, obviously). These commands are:

Command: Rally - Forces Commander's allies to attack/defend choosen target instead of whatever they want to do this turn. Outcome determined by a dice roll:
1: Nothing happens.
2: Like above.
3: One random ally's turn is overriden by Command: Rally.
4: Two random allies' turns are overriden by Command: Rally.
5: All allies' turns are overriden by Command: Rally.
6: Like above.

Command: Inspire - Commander tries to rouse the spirits in his warrior's hearts. Outcome determined by a dice roll:
1: Nothing happens.
2: Like above.
3: One random ally's hit/parry roll will be increased by 1.
4: Two random allies' hit/parry rolls will be increased by 1.
5: All allies' hit/parry rolls will be increased by 1.
6: Like above.

If Commandewr will be attacked during Issuing a Command, he will retaliate as if he ATTACK'ed this turn.

Pick a new name, maybe a new skill, GM will roll equipment, and back into slaughter you go!
This will happen all the way until one of the 'sides' is victorious.
