//On 'Impossible', AI has buffed stats and doesn't need more than 1 dilithium to produce ships at every system it wants.

Update 10: It Has Begun

One turn passes - we learn that Gorn are actually affiliates of the Dominion (thus, by proxy, Klingons as well), and the first Federation Starbase, at Ferenginar, is completed.

Next week, after buying materials and weaponry from outside sources, we finish USS Adelphi, Ambassador-class explorer, at Zakdorn, ahead of schedule.

However...

Caldonia, close to the edge of the system.

Cpt.Ivan is looking at the viewscreen, which shows a ship at least three times as large as his Centaur scout.

"It's massive... I detected no less than fifteen weaponry points. The readings are unbelieveable." Said the First Officer from behind his console. Cpt.Ivan twiddled his thumbs for a moment, and took a deep breath.

"Stand down weapons... Hail them."

The first official contact with The Dominion is conducted by Cpt.Ivan. We quickly discover that the ship is controleld by several different species, with two in charge: Vorta, and Jem'Hadar. We've send our diplomat, and usual diplomacy commenced. For starters, we've sent them a non-aggression treaty.

We also get a glimpse on their current status:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As you can see, we top them econimically and by territory, but their military tops ours. Of course, we do have very outdated info on other three empires, so who knows. As far as I can tell from a glimpse on the galaxy map, they took everything south of Klingons and east from Romulans/Cardassians.

Week later, we score two more contacts with Dominion, and both, fortunately, end peacefully.

We're rushing materials to our second Ambassador cruiser, and had to spent 13k of credits for this one. We also have sent affiliation proposal to Breen.

Turn moves on and suddenly, our outpost at Dopa system had to destroy a Dominion scout in self-defence. We quickly learn why the scout opened fire on the outpost:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We have twice-checked our internal security and are again trying to rush shipayard at Zakdorn. USS Zhukov was just finished and together with Adelphi, was sent to Ferenginar ahead of schedule. They will get there in 4 weeks.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Just as we signed affiliation treaty with Breen, Cardassians suddenly declared war against us. All outposts and ships have been put on yellow alert.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This happens at Turn 119.

It is now on.

We, against all others. Benzar, Sol and Zakdorn are now producing warships of all kinds, mostly cruisers and explorers. In next turn, our two Ambassadors will arrive at Ferenginar, not to mention Cpt.Ivan who apparently was chased by Dominion cruisers for some time.

Next turn, Cpt.Pies took command of USS Adelphi, while Cpt.Ivan switched his comfy seat at New England for the command chair of USS Zhukov. USS Yamato, another Ambassador cruiser, left Zakdorn yards and will join Cpt.Hanzoku's fleet at Xepolite.

Romulans aren't inclined to attack Xepolite fleet, so I believe the very first battle will happen nowhere else than Ferenginar.

WE WILL BE READY >:C!

I had several sequences in today's dream. First was about some gardening, to the point my hands turned black from dirt.
Next was about being construction worker on EMpire State Building in the 30's, and everything was black-and-white like in old movies.
And then I had the part about my brain and stomach being slowly pierced by something sharp while I was sitting in a chair and reading a book. Strangely, I don't remember the name of the book, nor lack of comfort from the piercings.

28026
No worries, Zakdorn is already producing ships, Sol is ready for ship production thanks to replicator upgrade, Benzar builds several more replicators to catch up with previous two.

There's also one other system, minor race, I think, that has 605 million population and will be our 4th shipyard system.

I'm also planning to build an outpost at every colony we have, while our homeworld and member systems get starbases.

Cruiser, or any heavily-armed equivalent.

As for taking sides: we could help Federation, and then backstab them like real Romulans when we have power to invade them. Otherwise we could just stay neutral.

Update 9: When Dominion Appears on the Scene

One turn passes since last update and Breen reject our trade treaties.

Next turn, and the fleet at Ferenginar had to chase away a Xindi cruiser, and even managed to dent it's hull a bit before it warped away.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This is quite an important message. It means that Miradorn joined the Romulans and in turn had to adopt the 'cold war' stance instead of open hostility. Terraforming and outpost construction continues on our newest borders, but development of Ferenginar is still behind the average.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Because Cpt.Pisskop's group returned from defending our new colony site, this time, the Xindi cruiser didn't escape.
Our breakthrough in Computers also allows us to upgrade our Constellations into Ambassador-class explorers. These are more powerful, better shielded ships that are now capable of traveling at yellow range, instead of green range. Constitution and Bellerophon, under command of Cpt.Cain and Cpt.Hanzoku respectively, are refitted as well. Until the modificatiosn are ocmplete, though, their damage resistance is minimal (in UDM mod, when a ship upgrades, it's HP falls to 10% as if it was damaged in battle. This is a balance thing.)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The Dominion. We're not sure what it is, besides the fact it is the fifth space-faring empire. Caldonians and Yridians admitted being in a brief contact with The Dominion, but are unwilling to divulge any information. Hmph.
Romulans make a monetary demand of 3440 credits, which we will rudely ignore. Romulan fleet now consisits of 39 vessels.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Woah woah woah. I'm surprised. I don't know if it was Dominionese bravery, or skills, or size of coffers, but they're now basically allies of the Klingons. Xindi just joined the Klingon Empire as well.
Nausicaan battle group finished the basic training program. Three of their warships were sent to join Ktarian-Zakdorn group at Xepolite, and the other six went up to reinforce our fleet at Ferenginar.

Next week, Cpt.Ivan sent us an urgent report about strangely high concentration of Trill, Xindi and Klingon ships, mostly small warships and transports, near Yridia. New England's sensors also detected strange gaseous lifeform. We advised Cpt.Ivan to warp away from Klingon border for the time being.

Oh, and we formed a trading treaty with Breen, at last.

One week later...

===

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

"AUDIO CONFERENCE ONLY."

"This is Captain Ivan speaking."

The President of the Federation pales at the sight of the scanner image, and then shifts in his chair.

"Go on."

"We have detected no less than fifty five starships coming from the eastern parts of our galaxy toward Klingon space. Fifty five, if not more, sir."

"Designation? Size? Allegiance?"

"We canno-" Static rushes through the transmission for a while. "-and I think they're trying to jam our signal, sir. What are your ord-" More static.

President Haspen leans into his chair, his left hand twiching slightly.

"Remain on your position, Cpt.Ivan. Report directly to Starfleet if you get any more information about-"

The signal cuts off abruptly.

===

So basically I've witnessed greatest concentration of warships in this playthrough. The bottom-right question mark has list of 'unknown ships' so long that I can scroll and scroll and it still shows up more ships. I think I've counted fifty five, and I could've missed few, so 55-60 ships is the best guess. Given the size of the armada, we can guess that Dominion is sending help to Klingons.

For what purpose? I think it's better to not think about it...

For comparison, Romulan fleet is 40 ships, mostly destroyers and scouts, and our combined Starfleet is barely 23 ships. God have mercy on us v:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Game loves kicking my ass at random intervals. Because of bad luck, it killed all of the Kenda system population, which means we lost all the buildings there, which means we have to re-colonize the system from scratch. Goddamit.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Same turn we get last of Level-6 techs, the Weapons, which upgrades our Soyuz-class starships to Miranda-refit class. Slight improvements all across the board, but it's still nice thing.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Tellarites joined the Federation! As you can see, they are quite advanced.
Cpt.Ivan's report states that most of the 'grand unknown fleet' is now mostly parked at the system we think is Qo'nos, Klingon homeworld. Few ships are scattered across neighbouring regions, and a group of 4 unknown vessels are currently at Ankaa, the rallying point of any previous Klingon intrusions into Ferenginar system.

Week later we got report from Ivan, again: outpost at Qo'nos vanished, much of fleet scattered, and only the Gaseous Lifeform remains there. Haa!
Benzar is slowly turning into ship-production moloch - we're 2/3 through replicator construction and the industry rank is already at 2k points. Currently, Zakdorn system is producing 3 Ambassadors for Ferengi defenders, +another defense group is in the queue.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This is the only thing of note that happens the next week.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

At Turn 111, Ferenginar Defense Fleet pulverizes one of 4 warships that intruded into the system. Soon we learn those belong to Gorn, warlike traders. We find out they are military affiliates of Klingons. A suitable match, one could say.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Uh, triple bad news. At least that comet didn't kill all of the colonists.
From good news, we just finished upgrading mass replicators at Sol, so we should be making new ships in no time.

Time for a break.

Update 8: Many, many ships

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

One of largest earthquakes this year.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Another scientific breakthrough, this time in Energy branch. We will wait a bit until next improvements, though.
USS Bellerophon, a Constituion-class Explorer have been finished at Sol. It will be the commanding vessel of a new group. We're still debating who will be in charge of it.

At turn 85, nothing really happens.

Turn later, we've got two new Centaur-class scouts: USS Marcus and USS Massachusetts. And because of a small espionage blunder, Klingons went angry and terminated our non-aggression treaty.

Our fleet at Ferenginar was put on yellow alert.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Oh, they haven't already? I thought they did. Besides small patriotic boost to our morale, nothing happens out of that.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Those two reports made my office buzz with activity. Our computer research was pushed back by approximately 15%. The funds missing is less of a concern, but the blatant weakness of internal security is. We have terminated the Klingon spy network and recalled our agents to help strengthening our internal security.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next week a fleet of 17 klingon cruisers entered Ferenginar. Cpt.Ebbro had to withdraw but Klingons haven't replied to the attack - instead, they left the system. Peculiar. I've ordered the transport ships to work their engines up a bit and get there faster.
Next time Klingons might be in fighting mood instead.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Same day our scientists get better engines for us.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The cruisers retreated to Klingon space (specifically, Ankaa system), but we received a formal declaration of war next week. Cpt.Pisskop's group, now that an outpost protects Bolarus, have been ordered to move to Ferenginar to provide military assistance to Cpt.Ebbro. Construction of an outpost began at said system as well.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next week, our scientists net us Biology improvement, Xindi declare war on us, and Cpt.Ebbro had an encounter with Klingon fleet again. This time, however, our starships stood ground and destroyed a 'Trill cruiser' that attempted a retreat along it's cloaked Klingon allies.

Nausicaans are debating formal membership application to Federation while Tellarites became our military affiliates. Cpt.Ivan, from whom we haven't heard for a while, reported sighting an unknown vessel. Currently, he tries to catch it and (cautiously) contact it's crew.

Nothing of note happens next week exept completion of USS Pandora, strike cruiser of the new fleet. We have also decided who will command that currently assembled group. Cpt.Hanzoku will take command of USS Bellerophon. He will be escorted to Sol system by Cpt.Euld on USS Majestic, and that destroyer will also join the group. Now, Cpt.Greatorder took the seat on Polaris.
This new group will then travel to Xepolite, as Cpt.Cain reports sudden increase of Romulan fleet to approximately 33 warships.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Cardassians demand money, and we rejected for obvious reasons. Caldonians proposed affiliation treaty, and we rejected. They are simply too far from our border and their homeworld is on edge of Klingon Empire. There is simply no way we could defend them at this point.

Outpost at Ferenginar has been completed. I feel a bit safer about our north-eastern border.

At Turn 94 the only thing of note is construction of destroyer, USS Capella, at Sol shipyards.

Nausicaans joined us next week! They have decent system with lots of 4-level structures. They also have a full 9-ship group which was sent to Sol for basic Starfleet training.

USS Brattain has been completed in Sol, just as USS Majestic, carrying Cpt.Hanzoku, arrived. The group of seven warships was sent, as agreed, to Xepolite. Current Romulans forces at the border: 35 warships and possibly the number will grow.

Time for update on our Galaxy map:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And here a nerdy appendix, ship roster:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Update 7: Crisis Averted

At the end of the 74th week, Cpt.Ivan got a special assignment. USS New England will plunge onto outskirts of our space, at Klingon border, and will perform dual exploration-spying duty. Part of Intelligence department agents went on his ship.

Next week, we got message from Ferengi, they say that we can defeat the Klingons! Thanks, midgets.

Two new ships left our shipyards: USS Lantree, destroyer commanded by Cpt.New Guy, will reinforce Cpt.Cain's fleet. Our newest Excelsior-class cruiser, USS Cairo, will join Cpt.Pisskop's fleet and serve as his new flagship.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This demand comes week after. We won't accept, and rejecting would be bad step. So, we will simply ignore the demand. Cpt.Ivan reports a large group of Klingon transports and few Trill Cruisers amassed at Ankaa system, but strangely, no other starships were found.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Blah.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This is sweeter information, though. Thanks to Bolians' cosmetology center, our agents got neat boost to espionage. With some effort, we can obtain info about our enemies. As you can see, their technology is behind us.

Cpt.Ivan reports interesting discovery - 6 unknown ships apparently warped into Ankaa system. Are those allies of the Klingons or merely some bypassing aliens? Maybe we will know soon. Cpt.ivan was ordered to delve deeper into the borders of Klingon Empire.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Cpt.Ivan meets these aliens. They are rather unfriendly toward us, live on outskirts of Klingon Empire and as far as politics are concenrned, they declared war against Klingons not so long ago.
We also learn that the 6 unknown ships aren't theirs.

Eta Crucis system is colonized, one of few we decided to settle with humans.

At Bolarus, we have re-shuffled the groups. Ans so:
-Cpt.Pisskop, now in command of USS Cairo, will take USS Miranda (Dsarker) and USS Pascal and remain at Bolarus system.
-Cpt.Ebbro, commanding USS Crazy Horse, will take a Centaur (Greatorder), four Mirandas (Hanzoku and Euld's included) and those two Ferengi Marauders, and speed off to Ferenginar system to defend it. Later on, he will receive few transports and an outpost will be constructed there.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Caldonians! A rahter peaceful and science-centered race discovered by Cpt.Ivan.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Few hours later we've got this. After short debacle, we have trusted the Klingon honour and signed the treaty. Cpt.Ebbro's fleet will reinforce Ferenginar anyways.

Simple security reasons, of course. USS Cygnus, just built at Zakdorn, shall join Cpt.Cain's fleet at Xepolite system. There was quite a bit of silence from Romulans and I don't like that.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Several days later we learn that those 6 ships are Xindi, a rather xenophobic race. They are military affiliates of Klingons so we must watch ourselves. Nausicaans rejected our affiliation treaty while Caldonians opened their markets for our merchants.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next turn, this happens. Fortunately it was a newly found colony and the effective damage was minimal.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Woohoo! Not only our scientists get our Construction research onto next level, but Flaxians joined the Federation! As a bonus, the Tellarites agreed to let our trade ships dock on their stations for economical purposes. Klingons backed away to their territory, Cardassians don't even budge from Orion, and Romulans conitnue to jump their fleets around the border system.

Construction of defense outposts conitnues, and now, with Cardassian border monitored by two of those outposts, USS Osiris was sent to Ferenginar and USS Onizuka (Cpt.Pies) to Bolarus, to reinforce respective fleets.

Our colonies thrive and member homeworlds continue to improve their infrastructure!

All is well so far!

//This turn was too good. I smell problems next time.

Dreamt that in my current Star Trek LP, some Borg shown up and obliterated Sol and Praxis systems. So naturally I went to the Xeelia system where I met with blue-haired elven anime princess (she was half-nude), and together we went to find the 'Sword' that could destroy Borg Cubes with mere swing.

We got to some temple, but I woke up immediatelly after I grabbed the hilt of the extremely shiny sword. Eh...

Why my movie-esque dreams cannot last till ending? >:I
