Actually, I tried few times and once, I managed to save Ferengi and Klingons by destroying 4 cubes in that sector. I think that in that particular try ADmiral Cain was still alive after those cubes, with his Renown, one other galaxy and few ambassadors left :P

Overrun by Borg Cubes so I had to abandon the game (and LP of it).

Damn Borg.

As you can see, we again start near southern rim of the quadrant. There are two stars close to our home system. USS Osiris shall check one of them, whilst the other shall be visited by our colony ship.

Pretty much standard research layout when I'm playing as Federation.

Woah, neat! Two large systems with max.pop around 300 million, + one of the stars have dilithium. We're clearly on a good start there!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next week we find this system which isn't nothing spectacular, but, in a long run, we could colonize it. Sol began constructing two additional colony ships and an Oberth-class scout, but those will take a long while at current industry output.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Osiris is on a roll with interesting systems. This one is glitch in the matrix, as a volcanic world have desert image. We decided to colonize Tarsus as soon as one of the arctic planets there is terraformed.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Week by week we're discovering that we have plenty of living space around on fairly comfortable planets!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Derp, just look at this... midget of a system. Well we can be greedy! We bought spare parts for our colony vessel so soon it will depart to terraform Thelka system. USS Osiris will go south now, with it's 'end' destination being that single star below Sol that you can see on previous pictures.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's not that large of a system but it has dilithium source. We might colonize it later. Still not even a slightest sign of alien vessels or cultures.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Just ten weeks since we finished Warp 5 Project and we already have a colony outside Sol. Citizenry is beaming with happiness and excitement. USS Osiris have to stray from it's course as it found a red giant star just on the very edge of it's range. Naturally, we have to charter it!

Another neat system and a potential colonization target. At Sol, we bought spare parts again and USS Alacrity A was completed ahead of the schedule. It will go 'north' and then right, and possibly meet with USS Osiris somewhere to our 'right'. As soon as we find a captain for it, as there's slight argument between the military and scientific departments who claim equal rights for the deep space vessel.

Always remember that expansion is achieved by diplomacy, not by the military
Starfleet's mission is to preserve the peace
Our ships are not intended to start wars, but to end them
We attack only as the last resort

Star Trek: Birth of the Federation Let's Play 3.01

...Miranda-class vessel, with registry barely visible on the hull - NCC-21264 - is shaking badly, leaving the last of stars in this part of the galaxy, slowly approaching a vast amount of deep, empty, black space. Whole vessel is shaking, and the warp nacelles blink with bright blue color.

"Are we there yet?"

Young officer shakes his head, and an old man in the Captain's seat sighs heavily, grasping on the armrests, a grimace on his face.

"Approaching Warp nine point eight, sir! We're dangerously close to-"

"Warning! Temperature of antimatter containment chamber is approaching thermal limits. Warp core breach in two minutes, seventeen seconds."

"Shut off that blasted piece of diodes!" The old man shouts as consoles start sparkling all over the bridge. For next several seconds, there was just constant crackling and crashing noises of the hull being ravaged by the stress.

"Sir, we're here! Right between Alpha and Delta Quadrants, in the year 2151!

"Turn on the transphasic particles generator! For the Federation! For the Alpha Quadrant!"

One second later, the vessel exploded in a cloud of purple and blue lights, and a ribbon of energy began spreading, slowly, bit by bit, separating the two quadrants from each other.

And here we are. Back to the beginning, when Humanity is just to start the journey into the stars, to meet friends and natural enemies, vast resources and terrible tragedies alike. This time, however, we will have the Borg turned off, as well as random events. That way we will avoid situations like this nightmare.

Speaking of random events - I just found out that random events and borg have different variable in the settings file!

Of course, we're still playing Vendetta mode on Impossible difficulty.

Well, stay tuned for the first post, and hopefully we will enjoy another installment of my Let's Play Star Trek: Birth of the Federation! :3

Chapter List:
Chapter 1: When History Starts Anew.
Chapter 2: My Neighbour Totoro Cardassian.
Chapter 3: The Malcorian Incident.
Chapter 4: The Wormhole Shenaningans.
Chapter 5: Diplomacy and even more diplomacy.
Chapter 6: Back on track, hostilities inbound!
Chapter 7: Federation as proper Technology Power.
Chapter 8: When Things Escalate Quickly.
Chapter 9: War with Ferengi; Battle of Malcor.

...Ivaaaaaaaaan :v

29061
Nah, it will be the same set of rules like this one.

Also, Ferengi are harder to play :P

29062
I think Borg have put a 'no' in your first sentence :P

And I will take that as a compliment ^^

I also wonder if I should go back to Klingons first before (re)starting another Federation. Oh well, I have to study now so quite possibly I will decide next week or so.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Cardassians are no more, we get major Populsion research loss and Ferengi declare war upon us. This also trapped our main fleet outside the green range, again. We did manage to destroy the local Husnock raider, though.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Few turns later, we get upgrade in energy. As you can see, it allows us to construct starbases but we can't really maintain or utilize them properly.
Borg Cubes, at least 8 of them, are now in Klingon, Ferengi, late Cardassian and Romulan space. Two of them approaching Ariannus system in our territory.

At Turn 271, Selay is no more, as is Berentalia system, that vast system in Romulan space we discovered and planned to colonize so long, long ago.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Few turns later we save Kholfa system in Klingon space just in a nick of time. We lost, suprisingly, 'only' 11 ships, including all five Nebulas - Cpt.Kor is no more. Or, he might be actually in better place than we are now.
There are two other cubes in the area and Admiral Cain is rushing reinforcements from our territory - 22 or so ships, mostly destroyers and light cruisers.
At Sol and Yridia, we're constructing two reinforcement fleets - 6 Mirandas and 2 Ambassadors, and Oberth in each of them.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Two turns later this happens, and USS Winslow A, Ambassador-class cruiser, is finished at Yridia.

Borg Drone puts three tokens on the grid and leans back into straight position.

"You, Species 5618, call it, Check-Mate. Resistance is futile."

President Haspen grumbles, looking over the grid. He then looks to the right, at similar four tokens in Dullisian, Ariannus, Melina and, most importantly, Yridia system.

"Indeed we do. If assimilation of Ferengi will complete, Klingons win by the rules. But if we leave for Armus, you will sweep into Klingon space, making Ferengi the winners. If we somehow win both of those fights, you're already one foot in our space, conquering our colonies. Nice one."

"We, do not conquer. We assimilate." The drone responds.

"Oh, sorry. My mistake. But, tell me... you were Captain Hyo, right... tell me then, Hyo--"

"My designation is Three of Ten, Secondary Adiunct of Unimatrix 001."

"...Tell me, Hyo, do your ship detect any... time disturbances building-up nearby?"

The drone jerks to the side, it's mechanical hand whirling for a while, before the Borg again looks at President Haspen with cold, emotionless eyes.

"Vessel 237 point 4 confirms existence of a time distortion."

"See, we are armed with transphasic particle generator, right on board of USS L'Aventure."

"That will not stop us."

"Oh, no no no, I'm sure it won't stop you now, but, ask your mighty Collective, what happens, if such thing would be, for example, detonated between Alpha and Delta Quadrant, say, around 279 weeks ago, when the Humans just started their journey into space?"

The drone blinked few times, a small cirle implant clicking few times on it's right hand. Suddenly, the drone pointed it's left arm at the Haspen to shoot him with a disruptor, but last thing that the drone saw was the blue particles of transportation effect.

Bridge of USS L'Aventure C, Miranda-class destroyer, NCC-21264.

Officers look at President Haspen, who just materialized on the bridge. After he nods, everyone assumes their positions. First Officer comes to his side.

"Gravitational disturbances are calculated for the slingshot operation, transphasic generator is secured, we gathered more food and dilithium that we will need to get to the other quadrant and back. All is set, sir."

The President nods again and then sits down in the Captain's chair. He takes a brief look at Earth, his home, home of the brave fifty who are with him on L'Aventure.

"Let's have hope, that by abandoning this Universe to the Borg, we will save the other from suffering the same, gruesome fate! Engage!"

A small blue vortex opens before the Miranda, engulfs it, and then...

...everything changes.

//Honestly, this was a damn check-mate. No matter which Cube(s) we would intercept, either Klingons or Ferengi would die, making the other race a winner. And what I haven't shown was Cube entering Yridia and cutting population in half already, crippling our starship construction capabilities.

So I decided to make 'The End' a bit more Star-Trek'y and include some time travel shenaningans :D

I hope you liked this LP, even if it was so full of Borg in the end. Next time, I'm going to do this without random events - as far as I know, it will also disallow Borg to appear. And then we can have proper war games with Cardassians and Romulans.

See ya! :D

3/5 for yellow on black.

29065
And I thought that MoM is around 20 already, if not older.

Happy Birthday! :D

Gravity, cuz of time-dilation shenaningans and being destructive power if applied properly!

My 'stored' Action Points got blasted away by few cards, making me unable to attack, and then poison and a basic bow card killed my mage.

29068
As long as those events aren't Borg and supernovas, I will do fine.
