Amazing few KAG games with Tiruin. :D

That guy's INSANE at King Arthur's Gold.
And I'm happy to see a fellow teamplayer frequenting it.  :P

Anyway, had a stimulating conversation on the most boring subject (IMHO relating to job): Calculus, with a good friend.

And the topic was on DF...

Iirc Reudh is an aussie, how bout you? It'd be neat to play with you guys some time :p

Tiruin is sexy Philippino guy, as stated by his profile :P

Whilst citizens of Sol celebrate the traditional Terran New Year, our monitor station bring us the extend of Romulan expansion.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As you can see, they just settled on Kurill. It has dilithium, much like Berentalia, as well as the homeworld of Romulans, the system called Romulus. That means 3 shipyards working at once. We have only one dilithium refinery. Thus, the Hurada system shall be colonized. Even if it has just one oceanic planet, we need dilithium anyway. One of colony ships at Mintaka shall colonize the system.

Starfleet plannists have also a plan:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

After we build our first few destroyers, we shall build four transports. Said transports shall create a defense perimeter in a line from Quadra Sigma system to Morikin system. Later, we might colonize Morikin, or even extend the line up 'north'. The proposed for the name of this defense perimeter is 'Romulan Neutral Zone'.
The southern border has been already established by Altec colony&outpost, and the very edge of it shall be - hopefully - plugged by Yridians joining the Federation. Sooner, better.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The news we receive next week are appaling. Ariannus system has been colonized by the Romulans, which is directly at the border of planned Romulan Neutral Zone.
USS Oberth has been recalled to Quadra Sigma system to hold it and intercept colony ships. The same task, but in Morikin system, has been given to Cpt.Cain and USS Biko.
Yet again, we're shifting the main shipyard queue from destroyers to transports. Starfleet is complaining about this, but honestly we're in no situation to consider anything else.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our Propulsion scientists bring much needed good news. This breakthrough increases the range of yellow-grid ships, including colony and transport ships. This allows us to lay claims on Morikin system faster than anticipated earlier.
And, our non-aggression treaty with Romulans expired. We have asked for signing another documents - this time one lasting almost whole year.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Just as our colony ship arrives at Hurada, it is obliterated to dust by some species calling themselves 'Husnock' who warped into the system. This is a critical blow to our planned dilithium operations. Romulans in the meanwhile rejected our treaty, and we shall approach them with short-term one.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Another breakthrough, this time in Biology. Aquaculture centers are useful food production places.
Just as we offer non-aggression treaty mentioned before, Romulans give the exact same kind of treaty for us. Some slight confusion came out of this, but we accepted it.
Husnock warship have dissappeared and neither subspace scanner at Mizar nor sensors on board USS Osiris have found it. Hopefully it left our space for a while.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

An affiliation proposal from Yridians, that's a surprise! But a most appreciated one. Yridians also managed to terraform all except one planet in their system, on their own!
In the same day, outpost at Quadra Sigma is officially finished and brought online.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Of course Romulans are not very happy about this. Romulan Neutral Zone Project shall be continued. As you can see, they are also constructing outposts at their side of RNZ.
I believe that, whilst we're trying to be friendly, we might have reached some kind of cold war on our hands at the moment.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Next week, we receive two diplomatic letters.
One is from Romulans, who demand another contribution, slightly larger than previous one. We have accepted it.
The other came from Federation Ambassador to Takara - the Takarians joined our Federation!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And just as suspected, the level of Takarian technology is far beyond ours. They are eager to share the knowledge with our scientists if we will help them with construction of advanced Physics Institute. It has been scheduled for construction as soon as we finish necessary buildings in the system - aquaculture center, wind turbines and a shipyard.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Scientific exchange with Takarians already helped us finish Construction research several weeks faster than estimated!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And Computers research as well! Construction queues at several star systems have been shifted to accomodate for trade centers and communication grids. This will enhance both our economy and diplomatic security.
This update was also crucial for refit of our Outposts - they are better equipped to deal with small raiding forces.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

However, the Romulans were first with their outpost at Ariannus - RNZ shall be pushed slightly toward out inner systems, but only at this and no more points. Diplomatic talks are underway with Yridian leaders to establish them as our members and thus, allowing us to close the RNZ at the edge of galaxy.

As the outposts provided additional range for scoutships, USS Osiris departed from Takara toward the unexplored area, much like USS Biko toward Romulan borders, however...

Due to Earth Orbital Shipyards at last starting the production of Miranda-class destroyers, we seek new captains to lead the first Romulan Neutral Zone Task Force (which will be also reinforced by USS Oberth, after it returns from scouting the outer Yridian space)
There are few independent applicants but first and foremost, Starfleet have forwarded a command promotion offer to Captain Jarod Cain, who would be transferred from USS Biko to one of the destroyers-in-construction. His manuevering during the encounter with Sheliak could be a proof of his hidden tactical genius.

We eagerly await his response. USS Biko wouldn't be left without a captian, of course - there's one of officers who want to command the ship, he goes by name Neer Dell.

;)

That's all for now.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

After forming a scout-pair, our Oberths reported finding yet another system comprised mostly of cold or hot worlds. This also means the end of our scouting operations for now, as we cannot yet reach further into the galaxy.
Cpt.Cain and Cpt.Jack have been thus ordered to station at Mintaka.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Takarans send a reply to our treaty few days later - they have accepted our proposal! We opened a trade route with them which will bring wealth to the both sides.
Our colony ships in the meanwhile keep terraforming planets en masse at Mizar, Mintaka and Altec systems.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Few turns later, we have another friends. However, as Sol system cannot support more trade routes, we won't be trading with them for a while. Maybe later, when they expand or one of our own worlds will be able to afford such mass trade shipments.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Week later, Romulans ask for small contribution to their treasury. As we're neither capable of major interstellar conflict, nor we need one, we accepted their demand. It isn't that much of credits anyway.
Nothing else happens for a while, though. Colony ships terraform, transport ships build outposts, and our scouts have nothing to do.

After a while, USS Oberth is ordered to spy on Romulan border once more. As the outpost at Altec nears construction, we had to decide which of other two scouts we will send. Thus we made a coin flip.
USS Osiris, commanded by Captain Euchre Jack, shall be sent for chartering mission, so close to Romulan border. We might be sending Jack to his death, or we might be getting him a pinch of glory as he discovers new planetary systems and unique species, who knows.

At lot of things happens during 48th week! We master Matter Conversion, Takarans accept our affiliation treaty, and Anticans join our Federation! The last picture is of course the system of our new animal members. This also allowed us to change the trading routes toward Yridians!
We, however, have overestimated the supply radius of Altec outpost, and thus, USS Osiris was redirected to Takarans to facilitate our friendship and exchange of knowledge.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Thanks to fast and heavy terraforming, our people seen a new home in Mintaka, and over 16 million immigrants traveled to settle in that systems among the friendly Mintakans.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Week later our colony ship lands at Altec planets, and new human colony is founded.
However, Romulans are quite expansive as well. They already claimed Melina system, and one of their colony ships is terraforming Kurill system. Starfleet Command is slightly worried about this.

Up to turn 54 nothing else happens, so I decided to finish this update at this point.

It's both hilarious and terribly frustrating to watch my mom play Portal 2.

Because she's making obvious mistakes or because she is better/faster than you?

I got 32 migrants in a wave about 2 years in.  Of these , 14 were peasants, the rest fisherdwarves and tanners, and one High Master Weaponsmith.  En route to my fort, they are accosted by a undead giant eagle, who proceeds to kill one, and only one dwarf before fleeing.

-.-

Poor Peasant #11 :(

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This update starts with good news from diplomats - Anticans agreed to our affiliation proposal. In the meanwhile, USS Oberth finds a system comprised of 3 medium/large barren planets and a jungle planet. Worthy target for colonization in the future.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Because we shall have a shipyard at Mintaka very soon, we made another scout. USS Osiris, commanded by an eager but competent man, Captain Euchre Jack, shall go boldly beyond Mintakan space to check the right quarter of newly available space.
USS Biko, commanded by Cpt.Cain, just finished chartering the Western Deep Space and shall start from left side of Mintaka space, and after few weeks of chartering the unknown, the two scoutships shall meet each other.
USS Oberth won't change it's course, though, but and shall continue to charter the space expanded for our reach on the right. It already explored two systems with max.population around 190 million.
Our colony ships are working twice as hard to help terraform worlds at our colonies and our member systems, but that's quite a slow work there. Sadly, this situation forced us to postpone - again - creation of our outposts and destroyers in echange of commissioning another colony ship.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Week later, whilst chartering Kurill system, USS Oberth picks up a large blip on their sensors. A structure in the outer space. Considering possible risks and gains, our scout shall investigate.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We find Romulan Star Empire. They allowed us to approach the outpost, and we exchanged pleasantries and basic knowledge of our race in exchange for their. They seem like people who just want to be left alone.
However Starfleet Command doesn't really feel up to all this jolly happiness and friendship in space, and asked me to put some workforce into internal security department.
USS Oberth was tasked with leaving Romulan space to prevent any misunderstanding and returned to the task of chartering available space.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This would be wonderful addition to our territory, but Oberth reports subspace signature that appears to be some kind of colony ship, leaving us to assume our galactic neighbours will be claiming this system for their own.
Speaking of neighbours - we sent a short-term non-aggression treaty to Romulans and friendship proposal (with a gift) to the Takarans. Hopefully both will be accepted.

Next week, USS Oberth charts Melina system, consisting of two volcanic planets, and Cpt.Jack finishes exploration of Emila system, which has one large arctic planet and several other, very small, not making a very interesting colonization target.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The Romulans accepted our treaty with certain degree of eagerness. This also allowed us to see their 'empire', which is more tightly packed than our haphazardly placed bunch of colonies and members. And as we suspected, Romulan colony ship started terraforming the oceanic planet at Berentalia. Oh well.

In scouting news - our Oberth's have been finding quite a few nebulae recently - two at the 'border' of Romulan space, and two on both north corners of Mintaka space. No star systems, galactic curiosities or first contacts, though.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

USS Oberth barely managed to avoid getting destroyed by Yridian scout. This isn't a good kind of first contact, eh.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...Suddenly the word 'Andor' came to my mind without reason. I wonder why?
Our current estimates place the maximum population for Yridia at 510 millions. The fact that Yridians are very secretive and that they're close to Romulan border, we need to assume that soon they will develop a friendship with the other empire - which could prove dangerous to our security. We will try to persuade them to our side, though.
USS Osiris charted Zayra system, which consists of several volcanic and desert planets, and whilst in general the system isn't too welcoming, it does provide quite a lot of living space.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Cpt.Jack brings great news - this system is capable of holding up to 475 million population, and is close to Mintaka as well! Parada has around 200 maximum population space. In the same time, Cpt.Cain found a neutron star at his path, and thus, he and Cpt.Jack were ordered to meet and form a scouting pair sooner than expected.
USS Oberth charts the last available system, Wilmor, near Yridia, but it's less than interesting... and then it was ordered to 'coincidentally' check on Kurill system again, which will bring Oberth close to Romulan border. I think we didn't got the planetary estimates correctly. As it's outside Romulan space, they clearly have nothing to worry about with this mission.*cough*

So much scouting and discoveries this time! Let's hope next update will have more action, hopefully, beneficial to our side.

Well it turns out that all students might be getting free education here, so you westerners that find it pricey might consider learning Croatian and moving over here for higher education :D

Or Poland. University education is free. Of course not counting all the tiny payments for copying notes, books, or whatever material you need to copy at the moment :P

Some pay more for copies than food, so they can stay in Uni :P
