2.
Up to Turn 12 nothing happens.
Then, Anticans accept our treaty, with some monetary gift in tow to that treaty. Our colony ships arrive at Malurian and are ready to start terraforming. Our scoutships find absolutely nothing.
Week later, though, USS Biko have found a subspace signature suggesting it might come from a spaceship. He has been ordered to investigate, but given that not everyone is destined to be friendly, he was ordered to not engage any vessels in close range.
However, they were intercepted and shot at! Fortunately, Cpt.Cain was able to get his ship out of combat and warp out from the system.
Soon we receive a delegation of this species, who call us primitive, inferior, and warn against any other intrusions to their space. Their system consists of dilithium-rich star, and three planets - desert, oceanic and barren.
That's very bad news, at least in terms of morale. Citizens of our home system are disgruntled about current situation with the Sheliak, and in turn our productivity takes a big spiked fist to face, crumbling. At least Mizarians are rather okay with it.
USS Oberth finds this peculiar system in the meantime. We might consider colonization if only to acquire dilithium refinery to supply our shipyards.
We find new race of species, they call themselves 'Mintakans' and claim to be an offshoot of 'Vulcan' race, whoever they are. As you see, their system is pretty large and estimates call for possibility of 410 million population, which is more than at Sol!
Our scouts will now exchange places - next week our shipyard at Mizar should be complete, and USS Biko shall investigate the western reaches, whilst USS Oberth shall go east. Transport ship was build at Sol and soon, an outpost near Altec will be built - our next target for colonization.
Just as our people colonize Malurian system, Mintakans want to join our Federation due to war concerns. What is it will all those aliens? Are we maybe really that scary? I'm lost now.
Amidst celebrations concerning Mintakans joining our society, Captain Cain makes contact with Takarans, species proficient in theoretical physics who are greatly interested in our scientific knowledge. Those would be potentially great allies, and their vast planetary system is worth it anyway! Diplomatic negotiations are underway as we speak.
And this is Mintaka system. As you can see, they are behind our standards, but we will gladly help them reach our level of living in the meanwhile.
All this good news calmed the citizens in Sol System, and production of ships has been restarted. On schedule, we have another colony ship that will help terraform Altec in the future, as well as additional scoutship. Starfleet branch also requests construction of a small fleet of Miranda-class vessels due to safety concerns - our Federation grows larger with each day but we possess absolutely no real firepower to fend ourselves, the example being Cpt.Cain's encounter with Sheliak. Few outposts at our member worlds would be good early defense as well.
Next week, USS Biko charters the yellow star near Takara, but it has only a gas giant and few barren planets. As the star lacks dilithium, we won't be colonizing this system.
In the meanwhile, we send Anticans an affiliation treaty, again, with small gift attached to the papers.
Here is current known map of galaxy. USS Biko, commanded by Cpt.Cain, is trudging through apparently empty space to the left, and on the right, you can see the icon of USS Oberth, which is going to explore a much more interesting region.
Who knows what awaits us there!

So. Another two takes on USS Enterprise.
Details: Per usual, I was making 'assault and hide behind' attacks, with cloak for protection. When I was preparing for final strike, getting behind the damn cruiser, it suddenly reversed speed from 1000km/s to -200km/s. I wasn't fast enough with brakes.
The other time, we were playing 'cat and mouse' at the edge of asteroid belt. Same as above, but this time I managed to turn to the right - and faceplant an asteroid that was big enough to not let me strafe it in any direction.
KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRK!!!

1.
And so we start the Humanity's journey into the stars.
USS Biko, an Oberth-class scoutship, comandeered by Captain Jarod Cain, is sent out of the Sol System, whilst USS Smith, a colony-ship, shall check the other closest system. One of those systems should provide a good target for colonization.
And as you can see, we start at the bottom rim of the Galaxy, in the centre of said edge.
Propulsion and Construction are always the things that Federation needs, so they shall be our scientists' focus in the long run.
USS Biko finds system with many rocky, large planets and ocean planet (possibly prompting the system's name), while our colonists discover our close neighbours - an animal race called Anticans. Our diplomats shall go to their system with a friendly gesture - small amount of credits and resources, and peace negotiations shall start immediately.
At Sol, our Shipyard buys necessary parts from independent developers and second scout, USS Oberth, namesake of it's class, and the captain took the ship toward the centre of the galaxy.
Captain Jarod Cain reports that his ship arrived at Melnos system. It proved to be substandard for our colonization plans.
We have another colony ship, USS Saskia, which was directed to Oceanus to speed up terraforming.
USS Oberth discovers Malurian system could become one of our colonies, but that's plans for far future. The other scout, USS Biko, is currently coursing across deep space, with nothing interesting on sensor range.
Fifth week of our expansion brings news - Cpt. Cain's ship sensors caught something akin to a starship in a system just out of range. Sadly, he can't reach that far and thus was directed to the other yellow sun in the vicinity. USS Oberth have found a black hole and green star in vicinity, and shall investigate the latter.
These time the odds have been reversed - USS Oberth found not really interesting system, while USS Biko reports chartering of Altec system. It boasts three large worlds, two barren and one arctic. It will take a lot of effort to terraform the planets, but it will be worth it, the estimates giving maximum of 250 million population possible.
Second green star visited by USS Oberth brings us discovery of new species - Mizarians, a pacifist society. They thrive on a small Earth-like planets, surrounded by array of rocky, barren, even volcanic planets. We could try to become friends with them, even if they're so far away.
Our first colony outside Sol System. People celebrate the news-
Umm, but we're not at war, dear Mizarians. And USS Oberth have weapon systems just for defense, really. You're clearly confused, but, well, sure, we can form an union with you. We shall offer them protection - if we can reach them.
From scouting news - Captain Jarod Cain reports finding system named Quadra Sigma, but it doesn't have any interesting planets.
...When asked about where they got such extremely advanced (compared to ours) technology, Mizarians just do an equivalent of human shoulder shrug. Well... can't be mad about that! Construction of wwind turbines and shipyard shall commence, extending our range to the 'west' portion of the Galaxy.
Our scouts discover two systems simulatenously. Ariannus, whilst smaller, have Earth-like planets. Evadne is full of rocky, lifeless planets, but there's quite a few of them, giving overall much more space than Ariannus.
And so we start the Humanity's journey into the stars.

Dylan&Harpe:
In the hangar, engineers and assistans were busy replacing parts of the damaged mecha. Sometimes just smearing metallic paste into the scratches and tiny holes - sometimes, lifting off whole fragments of devastated armor and replacing it with new. The storage room gate was open wide, and small vehicles carrying parts and ammo went back and forth through it.
Repairs, resupply and rearming was still going on, and Chief Engineer was actually nowhere to be seen.

Play With Your Buddies / Star Trek: Birth of the Federation Let's Play 3! The End, sadly.
« on: June 18, 2012, 03:57:17 pm »Always remember that expansion is achieved by diplomacy, not by the military
Starfleet's mission is to preserve the peace
Our ships are not intended to start wars, but to end them
We attack only as the last resort
Star Trek: Birth of the Federation Let's Play 3

Star Trek: Birth of the Federation Let's Play 3
So yep, we're going to be the 'good' guys again. You will say 'but Haspen, you already did this!'. Yep, so I did. Look here and then here for a proof! :3
This time, however, per suggestion of ivanthe8th, we shall play on Impossible difficulty. The AI tries it's best on this level, but also, AI cheats - I don't remember details, but it's related to shipbuilding.
Also, as additional gimmick, we shall play Vendetta mode; this mode requires that you conquer/annihilate the two 'natural enemies' to your nation. For Federation, natural enemies are Romulans and Cardassians.
And you will say 'Psh, just wipe out everyone!'. No, no, and third time no! See, in Vendetta, it applies to every player. Let's say you wipe out Cardassians and then Ferengi because Ferengi block your path to Romulans? Oops, sorry, Klingons just won the game! You killed Romulans, prepare to launch massive armada at Cardassia - Borg happen and kill off Klingons. Herp derp, you lose, Ferengi won, problem officer?
So as you can see, at Vendetta mode, you need to be crafty and abandon the cozy 'kill everything' plan.
However, we will cheat in our own way - just like in my first BotF Let's Play, we shall start on tech level 2.
You might ask 'What about Klingon LP?'. No worries, I will be back with it, I promise. I just cannot really 'feel' the Klingons, as it's only the second time I play them. Or maybe I just prefer TOS-series Klingons than what we have in game...
Stay tuned for first game post tomorrow!
Chapter List:
Chapter 1: Birth of the Federation, or How We Got Non-Human Members in Less than Ten Game Turns.

Chapter 5: Battle at Ariannus Outpost.

Name: Elizabeth D. Ahling // c:
Description: A lady in her early thirties, with long red hair, strange accent, nervous giggle and a scar on her face. She never told anyone where she got said scar, maybe she doesn't even remember herself!
Elizabeth spent four years hunting black beasts, on the planet Cassandra, with knives, spears and various pistols, under the constant watch of Master Uglopp, excelling in her training.
However, she eventually got bored and decided to leave the master and start a life as a mercenary, to hunt larger and more dangerous prey. Maybe even humans. And now, her current destination is Judecca sector, presumably to find both job and challenge there.
Stats:
Strength
Endurance
Intelligence
Agility +1
