Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Just as the system Volon is colonized, our scientists manage to improve our warp drives. Lvl 3 Propulsion increases the 'green range' by 1.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Two turns later and another breakthrough. There's a bunch of ocean planets at our colonies so the Aquaculture centers will be very useful.
Also during this turn, I send non-aggression pact to Klingons, affiliation treaty to Zakdorn and membership proposals to Angosians, Betazoids and Acamarians. We will see how it will go.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Suddenly USS Martynov bumps onto Klingon scout, a Bird-of-Prety warship. Per our tradition, we shall ask first, and fire in self-defence.
IKS Hemlom was thus hailed. We received no reply other than the sound of warp drives taking the Klingon scout out of the system.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

One turn later, we receive words from our ambassadors. Everytone rejected our treaties - except Betazoids. They are first non-human members of Federation, and we welcomed them with open arms. Let's check their system now.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Oh, neat! They have many Type-2 buildings. Most of them were scrapped, and queue of building orders was set in there. Betazed didn't had a shipyard at start, so we have to build it on our own. The whole system however is fine addition to our society. We can now open another trade route and with Betazoid halls of learning our research will go even faster.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We've been contacted by Romulans out of nowhere. Fine, I say, but I don't recall meeting any ships or planets...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...

Cloaked warships anyone? That gives me chills down my spine.
While Martynov will carefully entering Romulan border, Andromede checks the other side of Acamarian border and finds few unremarkable systems devoid of any bountiful planets or dilithium-rich stars. Oh, well.
The moment we enter Romulan space, we have been hailed by Romulan colony ship. We performed sensor sweep when the captains were talking...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I can give wild guess that the system on the left is Romulus. They are clearly preparing to expand toward Acamar and Betazed. We have to build defense perimeter around our affiliates before Romulans will decide to use force instead of just words.
Martynov has been tasked in diving deeper into Romulan territory to check on our potential enemies.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Agnosians joined the Federation! Of course we have to check their system for goods.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

...wat.
Apparently the Angosians were capable of surviving only on air before they joined the Federation and suddenly they are now dying by millions. I cannot comprehend. I have to build farms, but thanks to the ton of Type-3 foundries, stabilization of Angosian system will be quick. We also have to build an outpost there because Klingons already colonized Exo system.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Martynov in meanwhile reported finding a Romulan system called 'Borka' and sensor readings indicate more troop transports and colony ships in local region. Our scout has been ordered to leave the Romulan space in case there are armed ships waiting under cloak.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

One turn later, our scientists develop Molecular Data Imaging. It brings two useful buildings - the first one helps protect your minor races from being bribed from you, and second increases credit income on the system by 50%.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Klingons just now noticed that Angosia is a Federation system and demand tribute. Tribute for what? We shall ignore it for now, but reinforcing Agnosia is our priority task now. That will be done the next time.

//It's first time when I made more images than I played turns (13 images, 8 turns). It was quite interesting bunch, though - we got first Federation members, with some weird stuff happening, and Romulans somehow were kind enough to let us poke around their space.

29568
Psh.

These are Romulans, of course they are building a fleet to expand aggressively onto our border. Presumably they will try to take Talarians or maybe Trill.

Prepare faster! :P

So, six soldiers per mission confirmed.

The only thing I can mop about so far, but still: :<

//Gah, I forgot to erase VDF V from last map. Oh well, fix'd this turn. Also sorry for delays, university is evil.

Mission 1, Turn 10

Before another exchange of fire happened, a message was broadcast through the radio.

"First Officer here. We are receiving garbled messages from your side. Possible signal interference from enemy systems or asteroid metal content. We've also positively determined that the incoming power fluctuation comes from booster-type engines. It is a Tsuan suit. Be careful, as it will be a live opponent this time. This also means a Tsuan outpost has been constructed in the vicinity of the Sirius Vortex between our jump and that of TLC Minos, which we will have to destroy after long-range sensor sweeps will be conducted. Please reply to this..." The message went quieter and quieter until there was a garbled signal.

Few seconds later, a beep occured and an almost melodic, almost pleasant hum emanated from the speakers.

"This is. Anaan Lat Dzoon. Sixth Minellat. Of the Crystalline Order. Of Tsuan Stellar Empire. Pitiful hairy primitives. Your technology. Is obsolete. And your way of communication. Inadequate. We will conquer. Your homes and families. You shall adapt. To serve us. Your resistance. Is worthless." The voice was soft and calm, quite feminine as well.

Then it was static only.

Harpe: 6 + 3 = 9

*zap*

(70+10-20=60>14, hit! Dmg: 68 -> 34 shields, hull)

Moments after the bolt passed the shields and slammed the hull, the Viper Drone IV exploded in ball of flames.

Harpe: +1 Kill agaaain

Harpe backed away some.

Quote from: Initiative
Dylan: 3 + 4.5 = 7.5

Dylan moved to the closest drone (CDF V) and released a quick pulse array from his rifle.

(60+20-20=60>46, hit! Dmg: 20+13+20=53 -> 27 shields, 26 hull)

Dylan scored a hit.

Quote from: Initiative
Tsuchi: 3 + 3 = 6

Before Tsuchi could react, Harpe managed to blow up his target.

Quote from: Initiative
CobraDrone5: 5 + 0.5 = 5.5
ViperDrone5: 4 + 0.5 = 4.5
CobraDrone1: 4 + 0.5 = 4.5

Two Cobras attacked Tsuchi with both lasers and missiles, trying to avenge their exploded companion.

Missiles:
(50-25=25<>25, hit! Dmg: 60 shields)
(50-25=25>27, miss!)
Laser cannons:
(60-25=35<55, miss!)
(60-25=35<89, miss!)

Only one missile hit him, but did hit him hard.

Quote from: Initiative
Erava: 1 + 3 = 4

Erava as well lost her target, but conveniently one other 'fourth' drone was in range.

(70+10-20=60>46, hit! Dmg: 78 -> 39 shields, hull)

Quote from: Initiative
Kira: 2 + 1.5 = 3.5

Slug at viper, Missile at Cobra.

(70+20-20=70>29, hit! Dmg: 20 shields down) //slug
(40+10-20=30<77, miss!)

The missile missed and the slug only managed to cripple the drone's shields, propably for not so long.

Quote from: Initiative
ViperDrone1: 3 + 0.5 = 3.5
CobraDrone2: 3 + 0.5 = 3.5
CobraDrone3: 1 + 0.5 = 1.5
CobraDrone4: 1 + 0.5 = 1.5

Four remaining drones released their weapons upon Tsuchi, which means four laser shots and three missiles.

Lasers:
(60-25=35<62, miss!)
(60-25=35>2, hit! Dmg: 30+25=55 -> 28 shields, 27 hull)
(60-25=35>19, hit! Dmg: 21+31=52 -> 26 shields, hull)
(60-25=35>28, hit! Dmg: 32+35=67 -> 34 shields, 33 hull)

Missiles:
(50-25=25<57, miss!)
(50-25=25<27, miss!)
(50-25=25<42, miss!)

The missiles missed him, but the laser barrage managed to hit him rather hard.

(end of turn, shield regen!)

Outpost:

-Tiny amount of firepower and health
-Extends range of ships like a shipyard

Starbase:

-Like above, just moar firepower.
-Oh and it's guns has firing range of bazillion kilometres, so you have to charge once or twice before your ship can scratch a starbase.

Myself, I only update outposts to starbases in border systems and/or vital/huge systems, like home world.

Turn 50 welcomes us with another first contact.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's only a second time in my gaming experience when I've met Acamarians. I know they build starships but I've never seen their special building. USS Andromede is on a visit of courtesy at their star system, and negotiations for friendship treaty started.

Few more turn pass with more terraforming and trying to get friendships going on with newly met races.

And then a disaster strikes.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Right in our home system, a deadly strain of flu, no doubt accidentally carried from one of alien systems, strikes the population and sends more than 1/6th of Humans into grave. This is tragedy beyond words, especially that the Federation is still in it's crib.
Several weeks of mourning have been announced as our economy and productivity tries to stand up.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Possibly softened by the news of our tragedy, the Acamarians accepted our friendship without any demands and opened their trading posts for us. As their home system is larger than Betazed, we're suspending trade with Betazoids (just for a moment) and redirect the merchant ships toward Acamaria.

Few more turns where nothing at all happens. I hate the early stages of the game. No wars, no multiple systems to maintain, no super things happening. You just blankly stare as your colony ships terraform few planets in a slow and ineffective way.

Le sigh.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

But then, with small show of persuasion, Acamarians soon became our affiliates. Well, that was certainly an easy one. And Zakdorn accepted our friendship as well--

Wait, do Acamarians have a shipyard?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Oh yes.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Oh so much yes.

I love Acamarians from now on. Their system is almost perfectly in the middle of our local galaxy. USS Martynov and USS Andromede were instructed to visit the newly available sectors ASAP and scout them for new possible contacts and valuable star systems (and inevitably, new empires and monstrosities)!

Who knows what awaits us there~
