Play With Your Buddies / Re: Star Trek: Birth of the Federation Let's Play! (image heavy?)
« on: May 06, 2012, 05:22:36 pm »
1.
With the comission of colony ship USS Booth and science vessel USS Andromede, the Humanity is at last able to reach for the stars.
Let's check the navigation charts first.
Well, bottom of the map gives us one side protected from enemies. And those two stars look promising - let's hope there's juicy, large M-type world on one of them. Or maybe both :3
And here we have research management window. Propulsion is always neat (faster ships with better reach), and faster weapon research for Federation is a must. They don't get any structures boosting it and minor race that adds to the research (Chalnoth) rarely has good standing with us. With Federation's Genesis Lab and Daystrom Institute, Biology and Computer research is easy to go.
USS Booth was sent to the system on the right, and USS Andromede, to the left. The system on the right is Khitomer - has space for around 200 million colonists with two large arctic worlds, and tiny barren and volcanic planet. And the other one...
Bingo! Arctic and barren will provide cheap energy generators later, and oceanic and terran worlds much place to thrive and grow food. Barkon will be the second most important system, at least for now.
Oh that's just sweet. Vendikar system has very large Earth-like planet, and those two barren worlds boost max population to somewhere around 200. USS Andromede is on a roll of good news.
Meanwhile on Earth, additional replicators are built and then, we will being building additional Science vessel, few colony ships and transport to make outpost at Sol and nearby systems.
USS Andromede was afterwards send to the westernmost reach of our local space...
First Contact!
I just wish it was someone valuable or friendly at least. Antedeans are neither. And they have crappy bonus building too (+100% food production at their home system, I think).
Meanwhile in Barkon, USS Booth is terraforming ocean planet and will soon colonize the system as the first addition to Federation territory!

Helllo there folks :3 This is my first LP. I hope you will find it enjoyable and who knows, maybe you will dare to challenge the rather non-intuitive interface and unfairness of AI players.
Of course, we're playing as Federation, tech level 2 (four other races have level 1). Mostly because I like both the bonus with dealing with other races + a slight headstart.
But wait, there's more! As I'm fan of large amounts of starships, you can ask to be 'captained' and I will attempt to chronicle your voyages and quite possibly untimely death at the hands of black hole / Calamarain / enemy warship / Borg / whatever lurks around the corner.
Stay tuned for first post :3
Contents' List:
Chapter 1: Humanity reaches the Stars.
Chapter 2: Dilithium found!

Chapter 6: Birth of (proper) Starfleet.
Chapter 7: Into Romulan Space!

Chapter 14: The End of Romulan Star Empire.
Chapter 15: Fall of Ferengi Alliance and Victory of United Federation of Planets!
Spoiler: Captain's Roster (click to show/hide)
EDIT: Oh right, the ships I will be using will be:
Science Vessels (Oberth class). I'm always keeping around one or two for scouting.
Destroyers (Constellation and Defiant class). Defiants, of course, will be very late in the game. Their intrusion-reacting capabilities are just wonderful. And Defiants are powerhouses when in groups.
Cruisers (Ambassador and Galaxy-X class). The second class will be intermixed with Ambassadors later in the game as they're good ships anyway when performing in a group. They are used for siegeing and border systems guarding.
Command Cruisers (Galaxy and Sovereign class). Very late in the game - I mainly use them for heavy siegeing/planetary bombardment.
As you can see, no Nebula class planetary strike starships. I'v never seen the point to make them - Cruisers and Commands can easily do the bombarding task as well. No Mirandas too. Sorry Mirandas, but you're dying by tens and you're just terrible at everything.

Mission 1, Turn 9
There goes a laser blast, at Viper Drone V.
(60+20-20=60>43, hit! Dmg: 67 -> 20 shields down, 47 hull)
Smoke began to rise from the badly damaged drone, it's shields inactive again.
Slug has been propelled at VDF I!
(70+20-20=70>66, hit! Dmg: 79, shields down)
It made the shields dissappear at the drone just as a missile was launched at CDF I.
(40+10-20=30>12, hit! Dmg: 70 shields)
Pretty explosion is pretty, but the drone is still there.
The Cobra II shot both it's laser and missile at Tsuchi.
(60-25=35<56, miss!) //rifle
(50-25=25<98, miss!) //missle
Both missed him.
Another laser blast.
(70+10-20=60>49, hit! Dmg: 72)
Another drone down!
(Harpe got 1 kill)
The radio static has been broken.
"First Officer Sergei Romanov here. While I would like to bring good news, I'm bringing bad news. Five new signatures have been picked up by our long-range sensors. I got a report that says one of them is fluctuating strangely. We will keep you informed if that's a glitch in the sensor readings or maybe something different is approaching."
Both of Kira's enemies have a vendetta on her, spewing lazors and missile at her.
(60-30=30<44, miss!)
(60-30=30<49, miss!) //lasers
(50-30=20<79, miss!) //missile
She skillfully dodged them all.
Missiles go!
(30-20=10<81, miss!)
Slug rifle go!
(70+5-20=55>15, hit! Dmg: 26 shields)
The cobra got hit with a slug.
Another laser blast...
(70+10-20=60>51, hit! Dmg: 72 -> 36 shields, hull)
Another hit.
The drones released their barrage in memory of just fallen 'comrade' that was going to attack with them. Right at Tsuchi.
Lasers:
(60-25=35<74, miss!)
(60-25=35>18, hit! Dmg: 21+25=46 -> 23 shields, hull)
(60-25=35>25, hit! Dmg: 25+37=62 -> 31 shields, hull)
(60-25=35<52, miss!)
Missiles:
(50-25=25>13, hit! Dmg: 37 shields)
(50-25=25<67, miss!)
(50-25=25<26, miss!)
He got hit by a few - seems he got the attention he wanted.

Mission 1, Turn 8: (Of Some Ridiculous Failed Hits)
Rockets and slugs away!
(30-20=10<39, miss!) //scatterers
(70+5-20=55>11, hit! Dmg: 13 shields) //slug
The slug hit the drone, but the cobra variant skillfully strafed from the missiles, doing a barrel roll.
*clunk*
(70+20-20=70>68, hit! Dmg: 62 shields)
*pshoooom*
(40+10-20=30<83, miss!)
Only the slug managed to hit it's target.
There goes another pair of deadly effective Vetan missiles.
(90+20-20=90<96, miss!)
They missed! Dylan boosted to the right, just in front of the viper drone.
"Missile bank empty." Computer loudly stated the obvious.
Two drones shot lasers at Dylan, and the Cobra launched a missile at Tsuchi.
(60-25=35<66, miss!)
(60-25=35<75, miss!) //laser rifles
(50-25=25<48, miss!) //missile

Slug and missile launched.

(30-20=10>8, hit! Dmg: 18+21+21+23+16+30=129 -> 78 shields down, 51 hull)
The mixed barrage pelted away the drone's shields and cratered it's hull.
The Cobra moved closer and shot lasers AND missile at Dylan. Propably it noticed his attempt to escape.
(60-25=35<99, miss!) //rifle
(50-25=35<58, miss!) //rocket
He managed to evade them.
Laser bolt go!
(70+10-20=60>11, hit! Dmg: 70 -> 35 shields, hull)
The drone shook from the hit, the shields crackling with white spots and sparks.
Two drones turned their laser cannons at Kira, the Cobra moving closer and backing up with a missile. The rest assaulted Dylan without mercy with everything the drones had.
At Kira:
(60-30=30<84, miss!) //laser
(60-30=30>21, hit! Dmg: 32+23=55 -> 28 shields, 27 hull) //laser

'Hmmm... sea or ocean. Do we brave the waters? Civilians are propably nervous by now... On other hand, what if there's a vast land just for ourselves? A tough decision...' Argus contemplated his thoughts for a while.
Soon, two notes were given out to his assistants:
First note: The main fleet shall fly along the coast to north-west.
Second note: Two scouts shall continue north-east for six hours. If they shall find land large enough for our people, get into trouble, or six hours will pass, they shall return to main fleet at once.

Mission 1, Turn 7 (Even more Initiative rolls)
Another plunge of the lance and...
(50+10-20=40>38, hit! Dmg: 64, hull)
The drone now has a nice deep hole in it's hull.
Then, Dylan launched his missiles again at Drone IV...
(90+20-20=90>55, hit! Dmg: 24+32=56 shields)
Laser rifle, pew pew!
(70+10-20=60<74, miss!)
Pew pew missed.
Two of the newest drones moved closer.
Another combo go go go!
(70+5-20=55>7, hit! Dmg: 12 shields) //rifle
(30-20=10<46, miss!) //scatterers
The slug found it's target, but missiles not really.
Same as always - lazors onto Dylan.
(60-25=35<48, miss!)
(60-25=35>19, hit! Dmg: 37+36=73 -> 37 shields, 36 hull)
Laser rifle, pew pew?
(70+10-20=60>25, hit! Dmg: 68 -> 34 shields, hull)
Drone IV was damaged quite hard.
*clonk!*
(70+20-20=70>26, hit! Dmg: 41 shields)
*bzzam!*
After Kira moved closer to the new batch of drones, missile launcher got a lock on the first Cobra.
(40+20-20=40>36, hit! Dmg: 59 shields)
The missile exploded at the drone.
Suddenly, a hellstorm occured - the three Cobras moved closer and fired a pack of missiles at Tsuchi, whilst they and one of remaining Vipers released a barrage of laser bolts at Dylan!
Missiles at Tsuchi:
(50-20=30<44, miss!)
(50-20=30<59, miss!)
(50-20=30>12, hit! Dmg: 48 shields)
Tsuchi managed to evade two of the missiles, but the third smashed right against his facial shielding segment.
Laser bolts at Dylan:
(60-25=35<96, miss!)
(60-25=35<58, miss!)
(60-25=35>4, hit! Dmg: 31+24=55 -> 28 shields, 27 hull)
(60-25=35>66, miss!)
He almost managed to evade all of them. Almost.
(shield regen at end of turn)
//I also lowered the rank requirements so they are less outrageous

After Kira moved closer to the new batch of drones, missile launcher got a lock on the first Cobra.
(40+20-20=40>36, hit! Dmg: 59 shields)
The missile exploded at the drone.

CobraDrone2: 1 + 0.5 = 1.5
Suddenly, a hellstorm occured - the three Cobras moved closer and fired a pack of missiles at Tsuchi, whilst they and one of remaining Vipers released a barrage of laser bolts at Dylan!
Missiles at Tsuchi:
(50-20=30<44, miss!)
(50-20=30<59, miss!)
(50-20=30>12, hit! Dmg: 48 shields)
Tsuchi managed to evade two of the missiles, but the third smashed right against his facial shielding segment.
Laser bolts at Dylan:
(60-25=35<96, miss!)
(60-25=35<58, miss!)
(60-25=35>4, hit! Dmg: 31+24=55 -> 28 shields, 27 hull)
(60-25=35>66, miss!)
He almost managed to evade all of them. Almost.

//There might be few errors in the suits' status, was distracted while making turn, sorry.
Mission 1, Turn 6:
A slug was propelled at the drone as it barely escaped rifle impalement!
(70+5-20=55<83, miss!)
It also managed to evade the projectile.
(30-20=10>9, hit! Dmg: 15+26+21+12+30+27=131 -> 42, shields down, 89 hull)
The missiles indeed hit the 3rd Drone,. With a blast of white light, the shields collapsed and the rockets made few holes in the hull. Which wasn't in good shape anyway, now.
There goes a slug! And rokkits!
(70+10-20=60>19, hit! Dmg: 18, shields) //slug rifle
(30-20=10<76, miss!) //scatterer
The slug found it's target, but the drone managed to evade the barrage of missiles.
Another laser bolt.
(70+20-20=70>33, hit! Dmg: 51 -> 26 shields, 25 hull)
Another hit.
*stab*
(50+10-20=40>6, hit! Dmg: 81, hull destroyed)
Shortly after impalement, energy arcs began jumping across the hull before the drone exploded in cloud of fire and scrap metal.
Viper Drone II destroyed (Dylan: +1 kill)
(90+20-20=90>69, hit! Dmg: 35+44=79, hull destroyed)
After the explosion cloud of the two missiles dissipated, there was no Drone - but a cloud of debris.
Viper Drone III destroyed (Dylan: Another kill)
Drone 5 felt a little alone performing the calculated attack without his buddy.
(60-25=35<99, miss!)
It missed with it's laser cannons.
Slash&Missile, there we go.
(50-20=30<52, miss!) //blade
(50+10-20=40>14, hit! Dmg: 78 shields)
Whilst the swing of the blade was evaded, the point-blank missile was a success.
Even with one drone destroyed, the other two continued assaulting Dylan.
(60-25=35>20, hit! Dmg: 30+22=52 -> 26 shields, hull)
(60-25=35>33, hit! Dmg: 36+29=65 -> 33 shields, 32 hull)
They managed to further damage his hull and shields.
Suddenly, short-range radars in all suits began bleeping and showing five more red dots. Reinforcements have arrived.
"Watch out for those. These are Cobras, and they have a missile launcher on board." Unknown voice spoke through the radio to the pilots.
