DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Face Palm moments you had
« on: October 14, 2011, 02:39:53 pm »
My most epic facepalm moment so far was learning about the Hidden Fun Stuff on the Wiki before fully understanding what Fun meant.  The description there and my own ignorance led me to believe that it was some kind of epic siege, and more to the point, survivable.  Something this challenging, I imagined, must have great rewards.  So I started mining Adamantium, thinking that a long line of cage traps between the dig site and my fortress would keep me completely safe, as they worked for the 3 Goblin sieges I had been through up to this point... wth predictable results.

Finals score:
Dwarves 0
Fun 95

Welcome to FUN, enjoy your stay quick death :D

I thought that Iceland was just sparkly bishie boy.

Turned out he is lava-walking, children-scaring and demon-owning badass. I just had to make him an avatar for meself~~

So, student board has to pick things for next week (Spirit Week).
The advisor of the board was quite clear that we were to poll and ask people about what ideas out of the ones we brainstormed would work best and that they would want to participate in.

Second period of the day after, the vice president stands up and tells everyone that they've decided to do 'Disney' for the day that we have to dress up as a style of music. Apparently she and the President (They're friends, she was threatening to quit VP if the person she wanted as President didn't win.) had decided on their own what we're going to do. I know for a fact that she didn't talk to me or the other person on the student board, and a single period of class time is hardly enough to ask that many people what they think would be good ideas and then make an executive decision.

Boycott, failed peace talks, revolt, new elections.

It works 95% of the time.

I'd first need to find the magma sea then. Still need to secure the third cavern.

Need to explore it too. There just happens to be this 60 levels deepp pit connecting the second cavern to the third and I do have some prisoners to dispose of... >:3

I suggest my Macarena disposal method, good sir :D

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Reading history/ battle information?
« on: October 13, 2011, 01:53:03 pm »
Legends mode is only accessible when you're NOT playing a fort/adventurer*

While people might have vivid imagination, most of the time, no - they just interpret or just write up a story based on actual events. The game is incredibly complex and often writes awesome stories on it's own :)

*You can make a copy of the region, and then abandon the adventurer/fort in said copy to check what legends have been amassed already - and then go back to the normal region.

Tame animals should breed.

As for me, it seems as if the human caravan left a soldier behind. She's got a copper bow, copper mail shirt, copper cap and copper arrows, is listed as "friendly" in my "u"-list seems to be guarding my bridge.

Eh, fine by me.

More annoying is that all my produced lye seems to be disappearing. I want to make soap, consarnit!

She will move on to the off-map soon.

And for lye, check your food stockpile or un-stockpiled random barrels.

Hmph, where's the damn list... ah right.

New materials, decorations and that large dragon thing. I fucking hope you can ride on it.

By the way, what is everyone most excited about the next update for?

Everything.

After hour of struggling to get around controls, I successfully managed to harvest veggies for gold and kill zounds of bloodthirsty animals, yay :P

Elona isn't that bad for a game. ADOM was harder.

I got bored with my overpowered magma fort, so I turned on 'Macarena', and began shuffling through dwarves list. When they go 'EHHH MACARENA', I pick the dwarf.

And then I toss him into volcano (with some proper lever/bridge work).

It's fun~~

That's why Azkanan should make some kind of 'special' events when someone flies normally. Maybe also when it is fast forwarded.

Kinds of events... metallic asteroids rich in rare minerals.
Or maybe some old satellites, you could sell them to collectors or maybe find some interesting piece of technology.
Micrometeorite clouds that screw up your systems so you have to fix things quickly or face annihilation.
Random pirates, merchants, flotillas are obvious choices.
Stranded people within crippled life shuttles.
Colonies and spaceports endangered by large comets/asteroid on collision course.

Space isn't empty and surely one cannot be bored within it :P
