Chiron Captain: Roger, Captain.

After the change of course westwards, the Endean jets follow along Chiron.

Ten minutes later, when the Chiron clears the Endean airspace, the two jets turn back northeast.

21st Early Spring 1002
OPERATION 6: ORANGE EYES
Thirty-five minutes later

There's some beeping in the communciations area of the command room and Chief Secretary goes to investigate. She returns after few seconds.

Maia Sanders: Finally. Commander Shiek, we have, well, Endean vice-minister of foreign affairs on comms, audio-only. It seems Council representative is unavailable currently. Should I put her through or would you prefer taking this in the holo-room?

"And now we go back to our ship and sail to Palovilas!"

"Aye sir!"

Within few hours, the ship unfurls its sails and leaves Pointas behind, setting course for Palovilas!

15th Midwinter
Hour before sunrise
North of Pointas, Coast of Columbia

You don't sleep well since that last monster-related incident, so when someone knocks on the door to your cabin, you spring to life immediately.

"What is it?"

The door creaks open, and a dark silhouette steps peeks.

"Captain?" You recognize the First Mate's voice.

"What trouble befalls us this time?"

"Two. There's two of them, Captain... the mermaids!" You listen in to that haunting noise, but don't hear anything this time. You pull your jacket over your shoulders and walk towards the door, and join the First Mate on the deck, ducking when he does. He leads you up the stairs onto the quarterdeck, when the Gunner, Mr.Schmidt, is peering over the woodwork.

You do the same.

And you see two of those elongated necks and horrible round heads. These ones are silent, and are definitely trailing the Santa Julia, at a long, safe distance.

And then you hear the Gunner hiss in air through his teeth.

"Herr Kapitan, look! A third one!!" He points starboard and you peek in that direction, and indeed - a third mermaid has reared her ugly head from the waters, and is following your ship on parallel course.

"We shouldn't have shot the first one, Captain!" The First Mate whispers with panicked voice, then kisses his thumb. "Goddess protect, we're doomed otherwise!"

A) "These ones keep their distance, and so do we! Continue on course, and inform the crew to be ready for trouble!"
B) "These ones keep their distance, and so do we! Continue on course, and keep this from others, lest they panic and sow fear!"
C) "We've scared away one of them, we can scare away a few more! Mister Schmidt, get the cannons ready!"

"Yes, we talked about the galaxy." Louise looks at you, bemused.

"Explain."

"That it is full of things to discover. That he shouldn't commit to one choice this early and that Sweet Gem Berry was a little too sweet." The blonde-haired cyborg considers your words and then nods.

"I see... flavor choices. Thank you." She then takes a sip of her own drink, pausing to perhaps check the flavor with her tongue.

A) "Why do you want to know what he talks about with others?"
B) *insert bartending noises here*

319
"Simon isn't with you?"

"No. His sleep cycle ends in about seven minutes." Louise sets the glass down and looks at you again.

"Tell me, bartender, what did Simon talk with you about last time?"

"What about it?"

"Did he say anything about... his future. Or about me?"

A) "Yes, we talked about... (insert information you want to pass to Louise)"
B) "Nothing, really."
C) "I might be willing to share private conversation with you if I know what I'm getting out of it."

320
You decide to get comfy behind the bar.

1236USY.9d/1m.0302h

Shortly after 'Most Fortunate Occurence' docks, the main gate opens.

Strangely, it is only Louise who enters the main room. Wearing the same red-and-white jumpsuit as she did last time, she makes her way to the bar and gets herself comfortably seated.

"Greetings, bartender." She says, placing her hands on the counter.

"A shot of Wet Jet, for starters." You nod and quickly pour her a shot of strong and sweet smelling, clear synthol. You pass the small glass to the cyborg, and she pulls out her credchip, letting you cash in the purchase. (+20c)

Today Earnings: 20c
Monthly Earnings: 6157.5c

She eyes you for a moment, then takes the glass and drinks away half of the synthol.

A) "How's it going?"
B) "Simon isn't with you?"
C) *idle bartending noises*

Maia Sanders: I will try to get a link up asap, Commander.

The Chief Secretary runs up to the communications operators.

Chiron Captain: We did inform them that we've been requested to provide help but haven't gotten a response from them just yet. Should we plot a course back to base and give up on the mission or run circles in international space for a while, Commander?

322
You head to the command center and check the sensors.

Quote
Sensors Station Alert! IFF beacon translation in progress...

Done!

"Most Fortunate Occurence", Freedom-class Cargo Barge, approaching from direction of Madagascar Jump Gate.

Standard docking and refueling request received.

Fuel Pump assigned: #2 (authority: Automated Refueling AI)

Estimated arrival time: 25 minutes.

You go back in memory and this ship has been here before - it's Louise the cyborg and her nephew, and indeed, Louise did say they will drop by on 9th. She is punctual.

You open hailing frequencies.

Quote
"Yes?"

"Bartender Arnold here, hello again."

Quote
"Ah, hello. What is the issue?"

"None, just wanted to invite you for drinks."

Quote
"We will be disembarking for drinks, yes."

Louise ends the hail right away.

You scratch your chin in thought.

A) Twenty-plus minutes is enough for some Zirconius!
B) Twenty-plus minutes is enough for some bartending trivia!
C) Twenty-plus minutes is just enough to get comfy at the bar.
D) Twenty-plus minutes is just enough for some idle stargazing!

Maia Sanders: Duly noted. Sending an alert out for the Pilots for dispatch. Operation Orange Eyes begins now!

21st Early Spring 1002
OPERATION 6: ORANGE EYES
Two hours later

The white dot, marked as CH42-1 is moving eastwards.

A sudden ping on the strategic screen marks presence of two dots rapidly approaching the Chiron from northeast.

Maia Sanders: What is this?

The command center operators quickly tap away at their computers. The strategic screen soon affixes two labels to the unknowns: EAF-1 and EAF-2.

Maia Sanders: What is happening?

Operator #1: We have two Endean Air Force interceptors on direct course for our Chiron, Chief Secretary.

Operator #2: They're communicating to the Chiron that... let me translate... that our dispatched armed transport is intruding into Endean airspace without any sort of governmental clearance.

Maia Sanders: What? Preposterous. Endean Union is on the Council and has agreed to take part in the Corps project, and thus agreed to have borders open for our forces. Such an interception is unacceptable according to the treaties Starlight Corporation has with the Council members!

Operator #2: Well, bureaucrats in Endean Union seem to interpret law differently today.

Operator #1: Command, we have Chiron's Captain on line.

Maia Sanders: Put him through.

The holo-screen lights up and the seated Captain salutes.

Chiron Captain: Commander Shiek, I have two Endean interceptors demanding I turn around and leave immediately or be 'removed by any means necessary' from Endean Airspace and I would like to know what the hell is happening here?

The date is 666 United Space Year. Hyperion-3 exits through Jump Gate into the Gamma Utena, Centauri Sector. The small brown dwarf is orbited by two barren planets and ring of asteroids and minor planetoids between the two, something that Hyperion has to keep an eye on during its trip through the belt. At the inner edge of the belt is Gamma Utena Spaceport, one of the largest in Federation, as it was constructed enveloping third-largest planetoid in the belt. It is also the seat of Federal Regional Government and headquarters of Centauri Republican Party, which is pressing for stricter control of citizens' employment and migration (to curb crime and insurgency risks) and less industrial, bio-engineering and terraforming regulations (to promote economic growth and planetary development).
Once Hyperion-3 docks with the Spaceport, Yarna Collins asks Zirconius to lend her Chester-Beta42 as bodyguard, and Mikhaila Syarkova, as she did research on the communications core and read some logs personally. Zirconius acquiesces to the request, but orders Chester-Beta42 to keep an eye on Collins' activity. Collins then takes her two newfound companions on a trip to the Ground Sector, which is where most of Spaceport's crew has their quarters and suites. On the way there-

[SLEEP PERIOD HAS BEGUN. SEEK A PREFERABLY COMFORTABLE PLACE TO SLUMBER UNTIL 0215 TOMORROW. NEGLIGENCE TO THIS MIGHT CAUSE YOUR ORGANIC COMPONENTS TO BECOME INEFFICIENT.]

You shoo the alert away and check the holo-vid's length, and decide to go with it - there's less than twenty minutes of holo-media left for this episode.

Collins then takes her two newfound companions on a trip to the Ground Sector, which is where most of Spaceport's crew has their quarters and suites. On the way there, Collins is looking out for White Towers, a community for poorer and jobless station citizens, but only finds a large hydroponics park in its place. Chester-Beta42 inquires on the station network and finds out that Centauri Republicans have bought the White Towers, had them vacated and demolished and funded the park to 'provide green space for crew and administration' of the station. He has no information on the two thousand people who lived in White Towers, but Yarna has some dark thoughts. Meanwhile, unnoticed by the trio, a pair of security guards are keeping an eye on them from safe distance.
They finally arrive at their destination, Shaded Quarters 34-F3. She meets with her uncle, Humbert Collins, who was once Vice Chief of Internal Affairs on Poseidonis, and has taken upon investigative work as part-time private detective, part-time journalist on the net. They have a quick discussion about Centauri Republicans, criminal activity and corruption in the Federation, and that there are all indications that the incoming elections might be in danger. Before Humbert can explain more, the main door is opened and a black orb is thrown inside the quarters. Chester-Beta42 only has time to pull the others down as the pulse grenade explodes.

Thus ends Chapter 10.

You let out a loud yawn, stretch, and pace to the bar to take the music, lights, and the replicator consoles offline for the night.

Then you enter the Sleep Pod, get 'comfortable' and tap away at the console to set it for six hours cycle.

Congratulations! Bartender Arnold earned 787 Credits today! His monthly total so far is 6137.5c Credits!

A new day at Galactic Refueling Otupost 254831 begins...

1236USY.9d/1m.0215h

The sleep pod wakes you up and you leave. Finally, some good, uninterrupted sleep. You stretch and yawn, and go plug yourself to the food dispenser, paying little attention to the slurpy noises the tube attached to your body makes.

You finish up turning on the lights, preparing the synthol replicators and setting up the music.

You do not get time to ponder what to do next when you hear the familiar beep of the security console.

Some ship is en route to your Outpost!

A) Let us go and hail them!
B) It's too early for customers!

325
You hustle over to the communications console to send a ping.

1236USY.8d/1m.1912h

A text message is the only reply:

Quote
>Unfortunately we're on schedule.

You shrug and return to the bar to browse the net for trivia.

1236USY.8d/1m.1915h

Your wetware chip kindly reminds you that your sleep period (2015-0215) is approaching. More than enough time to finish trivia reading!

1236USY.8d/1m.1954h

You read an article about a mix called 'Garden of Eden'. It has a long history and its recipe was changing every few years, as the bartenders and synthetic taste specialists were trying to come up with the 'most fruity yet refreshing but also spicy' mix possible. At one point, it had Buenberry, Grapevine, Grenadiere, Martian, only to discard half of synthols and splash in some Ribesnero, for some illogical reason. You spend a while going back and forth, fishing out comparisons - while the article doesn't present the recipe outright...

Quote
GARDEN OF EDEN: 192c

2 Shots of Ambrosia
Shot of Grapevine
Shot of Buenberry
Shot of Vurzelberg

Serve in a tank glass with ice and lemon slice.

...you manage to research it yourself!

A) More trivia?
B) Some Zirconius?
C) Actually, this close to sleeping period, let's just go to sleep!

Maia Sanders: Commander, I wish to remind you that we have both VanZer models 995 and 998Plus. Which should we send our Pilots in?

327
"Forty-three coffers of Spicebark and twelve coffers of Crimsonpeel."

"Right away, sir." The Purser says and scribbles in his ledger. "For a total of thirteen thousand seven hundred twenty Ducats, Captain."

"And now, Captain?" The First Mate asks as the Purser finalizes the deal with the market keeper.

A) "And now we go back to our ship and sail to... (insert port here)!"
B) "Let's trade some... (insert trade good here)"
C) Consult the Ledger.

328
You decide to clear your hear with some bartending trivia.

1236USY.8d/1m.1905h

After you put the torpedo away, lock the launcher, and secure the weapons station, and put your clothes on.

All which takes a few minutes.

1236USY.8d/1m.1910h

You barely get onto the bartending Net when the security console pings you. Some ship has entered the system and this might mean potential clientele.

If you invite them over to change course, of course.

A) Ehhhhhh.
B) It's not much but someone gotta do it.

Ovals ovals ovals...

Where are there ovals on this station?

1236USY.8d/1m.1857h

Quote

The Oval is in your hands. Large, shiny, somewhat heavy, and with the weapons console beeping at you that the torpedo storage is open.

This is the oval you've seen in your memory-visions and exploration-thoughts. The box isn't a box, and the oval is a photon torpedo. You trace your fingers over the oval case and it bears exact shape and feel under your skin as back then. The feel makes you realize that whatever you were doing in your slavery, there was moments of carrying torpedoes in your hands.

But with this small part of the puzzle complete, more thoughts flood your mind, including the most uncomfortable one - what was happening that you were ordered to handle live ordnance manually, and without protection of any sort?

You get a headache thinking about all this.

A) Therefore a nap is in order!
B) Therefore I should put my thoughts towards bartending trivia!
C) Therefore I should calm my brain with some Zirconius cheese!
D) Therefore I shall adopt the torpedo as friend!

"Let's go back to the market for the time being, to fill our cargo as much as possible before we set sail."

The Purser and the First Mate soon join you on the second trip to the Pointas market, and its keeper shows you the update inventory of goods they're selling.

Quote from: Pointas Market
Blackspice: 95 Coffers (>5 SL) priced 790 Ducats each.
Crimsonpeel: 140 Coffers (7 SL) priced 570 Ducats each.
Puffcloth: 95 Barrels (19 SL) priced 2050 Ducats each.
Spicebark: 120 Coffers (6 SL) priced 160 Ducats each.
Sugar: 110 Sacks (11 SL) priced 65 Ducats each.

Pointas Market is currently buying Old World Textiles and Alcohols at Company Value.

A) "We shall buy... (insert trade good here)"
B) Consult the Ledger!
