"I could handle all that." Vanessa sighs a little bit, propping her chin with her left hand.

"Uh-huh, whatever, I've heard that a few times before." She says with a grin, and then shrugs.

"You're not in relationship, then?"

A) "I think I have someone..."
B) "No."
C) CHATTY: "If you're interested in starting one, I'm not against it."
D) FLIRTY: "If you want someone at your bed-side to keep you company, count me in~"

378
"Thank you. We're off to the market, then." You, your officers, and Leon all stand up, shaking hands.

"Of course. May the Ouranos allow us to cross paths again." After this pleasant goodbye, you go for the market.

There, the market keeper explains what the colony has to offer, and that there is a specific order for silver.

Quote from: Pointas Market
Blackspice: 225 Coffers (>12 SL) priced 790 Ducats each.
Crimsonpeel: 140 Coffers (7 SL) priced 570 Ducats each.
Puffcloth: 95 Barrels (19 SL) priced 2050 Ducats each.
Spicebark: 120 Coffers (6 SL) priced 160 Ducats each.
Sugar: 110 Sacks (11 SL) priced 65 Ducats each.

Pointas Market is currently buying Old World Textiles and Alcohols at Company Value.
Pointas Market has a standing order for delivery of 8 Barrels of Silver, 9.500 Ducats each, for total of 76.000 Ducats, to be delivered before 15th Midwinter.

The Purser grimaces at the mention of Sugar, while First Mate states the obvious.

"Parting with eight barrels of Silver will give us enough to at least meet the quota of the Charter, no?" The Purser looks into his ledger.

"With what we have in the coffer, and from the delivery of silver... yes, we end with a surplus of over eleven thousand Ducats left. And we still have thirty barrels of Strongsugar, too."

A) "But we won't trade here!"
B) "Alright, let's trade some... (insert trade good here)"
C) Consult the Ledger.

379
"Is there much demand for silver, textiles or alcohol?"

"I do not believe so, however, there might be someone in need of silver, via market or elsewhere, as there are utensil and silverware workshops in the colony. You will have to ask around."

"Furthermore, any sightings of sea monsters?"

"No, not really. Why?"

"We've had a meeting with a Mermaid of the Karibs, apparently, and we chased it off with a salvo of cannonballs."

"A mermaid! Pray you killed it, for the locals say that mermaids have great memory and even greater anger against those who wronged them."

A) "Thank you. We're off to the market, then."
B) "I also have a question about... (insert topic here)"

I'm glad the curse of FEF hyperness has moved onto you.

"It was spontaneous decision, really." Vanessa looks at you funny.

"You really ought to think your decisions before you take them, geez. What if she was a succubus? Or if she wasn't on mensblock? You could be dead now. Or a dad-in-making!" She scoffs, eyeing you with curiosity.

A) "I could handle all that."
B) CHATTY: "I'm definitely equipped to handle the duties of parental figure, you know?"
C) CHATTY: "I can keep up with this weird conversation if you drop the strange words."
D) FLIRTY: "And since when you know about lusty demons? Are you one yourself in hiding, perhaps?"

383
"Want a drink?"

"No. Uh, I mean..." She looks at you.

You look at her.

After a while, Vanessa blushes slightly and waves dismissively at you.

"Uh, alright. A shot of Cherrybomb. No, wait." She thinks for a second or two. "Skinjuice this time." You nod and pour her a shot of clearer, yellower Skinjuice this time. You hand her a drink, she lets you scan her credchip. (+10c)

She quickly takes a sip.

"So, uh... how to ask this..." She ponders the question on her mind, looking away from your face.

"Why did you sleep with Arma. I mean, you just met her!" Vanessa asks out of the blue, but your organic brainparts make you wonder how long this particular question was gnawing on the mercenary's mind.

And that this feels a little bit like a minefield of sorts.

A) "I like them big and confident."
B) "To impress another girl."
C) "It's lonely and cold out here, in space."
D) "She offered, I took it."
E) "To mess with the expectations."
F) "I will answer only if you tell me if you're jealous."
G) "Because I thought it might get me somewhere."
H) "It was spontaneous decision, really."
I) "It's part of the service here."

"Up for another drink and/or a little chat, perhaps?" Vanessa quickly evacuates the seat.

"No, no... maybe, I mean, thanks for letting me sleep. Let's go back for now."

Vanessa takes a seat in front of the counter as you make your way behind the bar.

"To be honest, I should be going back to Ocean Eleven... check the navnews, and the piracy reports... maybe check on the Duchess..." She muses, but it seems the nap did her good in terms of not hyperfixating herself on her duties - at least for now.

A) "Want a drink?"
B) CHATTY: "Hey, so you're her bodyguard, what's the whole story behind the exile though?"
C) FLIRTY: "If you want, you can check out me instead, just like your friend did~"

385
You decide to stargaze for a while all by yourself.

And to keep an eye on Vanessa, just in case.

1236USY.8d/1m.1531h

In last four hours, she fidgeted only twice; both times she moved rightways, which ended with her right cheek pressed against soft siber-coat of the chair.

But now the sleeping mercenary is waking up, quickly sitting up straight when her half-asleep self realizes she is in unfamiliar place.

"Ah, right, you." She mumbles, noticing you, and rubs her face some, letting out a pained hum.

"Sorry. The stargazing didn't work out. I mean. How long was I asleep?"

"You've been napping for slightly over four hours, Vanessa."

"Uh, geez..." She pulls a small communicator from her pocket and checks the display for something.

"Well, the Duchess is still sleeping..." The blonde says, before stretching her arms upwards with a happy sigh.

A) "Feel free to take another four-hour nap, if you want, of course."
B) "Up for another drink and/or a little chat, perhaps?"

You must upgrade from Tribal Monarchy to Feudal or Administrative Monarchy to unlock the court position of Spymaster.

You decide to visit the Golden Cup Inn.

You quickly wind up on the Gilded Street, which cleaves through the trade district, as passerbies provide you directions to the place; a three-story building with windows made of actual glass and the brick walls, while evident, have been covered with white coat of plaster. This must be a rich place for rich patrons.

Your briefly wonder if this is truly an inn for your current budget of few dozen Ducats...

You step inside, if only to check the prices. Many tables and chairs of bright timber are arranged in a circle about the spacious hall, and at the back a staircase is leading upstairs. The bar is tended by a large and fat, balding man in white apron and leather jacket. He is currently joking about something with pair of two city guards, who must be off-duty, or perhaps came in for a little snack.

At this time of day, there isn't many patrons; a bard seated in far corner is idly plucking away at and adjusting his lute. Two boys, dressed in chainmail and dark blue cloth, both about your age, are quietly eating a meal of chicken and bread. A balding man with glasses is currently leaning over a piece of parchment, muttering to himself and scribbling away at it with a piece of charcoal.

Whatever shall you do, young Squire?

"Let's go to the Company Man!" And the three of you go to the Company's office.

Indeed, your officers haven't been in Pointas a lot, for they have to ask a passing sailor for the directions to the office. Once there, you find the building rather decrepit, or perhaps it is the timber used?

Entering the office, at least the interior is much better kept, if the usual: bookshelves, ledgers, and other documents flanking a man seated at the desk. He is tall, middle-aged, and has short, neatly trimmed beard.

"Hello, welcome to Lusitanian Western Trade Company office, how may I be of service?" His voice is soft, if a bit raspy.

"Greetings. We're of the Company as well, sailing on board Santa Julia. This is Captain Scott Finley, our Purser, Xavier d'Albaret, and I'm the First Mate, Luis de Panama." The bearded man stands up, as your First Mate introduces you, to shake your and your officers' hands one by one.

"Pleasure to meet you. Please, be seated. I'm Leon de Caravela, this colony's Company Man. I would assume you seek information about this place and around it?" You and your two officers seat on small, wooden, and very uncomfortable, stools.

"Correct."

"Well, where to begin? There's been strong, warm winds lately, and older sailors believe that there might be storm coming from the direction of Columbian inland. But from the other side, there's the Blackjaw, or as he was once called, Helmut Bergmann. This wretched pirate has sunk a local trade dinghy, and escaped a confrontation with two of our Galleons."

"What kind of ship does that Blackjaw have?" The First Mate asks with concern in his voice.

"A 40-load Ship." The Purser furrows his brows.

"And he escaped a pair of Galleons?" Leon shrugs.

"He has some devil's luck. He was a soldier and navigator since he was a young lad, the story goes, so he is as crafty as he is dangerous. His ship was damaged, of course, and he fled to northwest. I would advise caution if you are considering sailing to Nuova Lusia or Aridias."

"How about the market?" The Company Man hums.

"The local industry is booming, thanks to deposits of iron ore being found. We've also had great harvest of Blackspice and Puffcloth this Autumn, and it still should be aplenty and moderately cheap as few ships visited us in last few weeks."

"Anything else?"

"No, I do not think so? Unless you've had something specific on mind...?"

A) "Yes, I wanted to ask about... (insert topic here)"
B) "That would be all. We shall visit the marketplace now."

389
You decide to stare along.

1236USY.8d/1m.1123h

It doesn't take you long to realize that Vanessa has stopped fidgeting in her seat, and has been duly taken in by observation of the universe.

When you turn to look at her, you realize that she fell asleep. Head tilted right-ways, her breathing is slow and calm.

A) Gently wake her up.
B) Let her sleep, and return to your work station.
C) Contemplate the stars alone, for now.

You order that festivities are to commence this Autumn!

511 AD, Winter

A messenger from Rycht has arrived, say the guards.

As he enters the audience room, he takes off his fur cap and steps to the middle of the hall.

"King Cyrus! Good chiefs of Surinthomus! By the order of my King and master, Herykk of Rycht, I am to invite you to the Great Seating, to discuss politics and laws both current and future, on the first day of Summer of the next year." Even before the messenger finishes his invitation, your courtiers erupt in murmur and whispering. You lean toward the Advisor, who does the same in your direction.

"What is the Great Seating?" The Advisor whispers an answer.

"It is tradition of our lands, when a King becomes influential, be it by conquest, marriage, or simply amicable terms with others, to gather all the other royals to the Seating, so that there might be discussion about unifying our disparate and fragmented countries into one. No wonder you have not heard of this before; last time this was attempted was almost hundred years ago by King Vati of Reval, but he got nowhere with his plans."

"What say you?" Asks the messenger, placing his hands on his waist.

You decide to...

A) Reject this thinly-veiled attempt at contesting your rule!
B) Accept the invitation of your father-in-law, its about time you paid him a visit.
C) Try to find out who else is invited and who is coming to this 'Great Seating'.
