"Try it out, I could let you into my weapons station. It has a cupola so you have half the cosmos in plain view." Vanessa looks at you with curiosity.

"Like, right now?"

"Absolutely right now, it's not like I have anyone else here to tend to." The blonde mercenary leans away from the counter, staring at her gloved hands and definitely having a moment to think about it.

"It sounds like you're trying to take me on a date somewhere private."

"It is not a date, rest assured, I'm just trying to help you relax." She looks at you, and then shrugs, a smirk curving her lips slightly.

"Alright then... it can't hurt to try."


You take Vanessa into the command center and then, by the stairs, and later, by the ladder, into the weapons cupola. There's just enough place for both of you to stand, but you quickly move aside to let - and indicate - the girl to sit down in the large control chair.

She immediately looks over the controls and weapon statistics with visible spark of curiosity in her eyes.

"The stars and the cosmos are up there, miss." Vanessa glares at you and then leans into the chair.

"Uh, sorry! Sorry, force of habit. And call me Vanessa, I'm pretty sure I'm not a stranger at this point." She takes a breath and places her hands behind her head, genuinely trying to relax, it seems. "And, what now? Just stare into the abyss?"

"That is correct, just enjoy the view." Vanessa does exactly that.

For about five seconds.

"So that orange star is the primary, and that smaller thing? The gas giant?"

"You are correct on that, yes."

"I see, I see." Vanessa looks past the closest items and into the background mosaic of galaxies, dotting the sides of the bright, milky-like arm of the galaxy humanity is contained to.

She takes a deep breath, and places her hands on her lap. She is one fidgety girl, you have to note.

A) Stare along for a while.
B) "What are you thinking about right now?"

"I have this serie of cheesy holo-vid media, but it's one way to kill time." Vanessa grimaces, humming.

"Holo-vids? Honestly, fantasies and fiction are not for me. I... don't think I could get into the mindset to really forget myself and enjoy the wild stuff in them. Maybe... maybe one day. Some other time. Uh, whatever." She taps the counter a little bit before looking at you again.

"What else?"

A) Le shrug.
B) "Have you considered sitting by a window and gazing out at the stars and darkness outside?"
C) "Reading interesting articles on bartending trivia is definitely a good time-waster!"
D) "I have a nap or two. Sleep is always a good answer, no?"

"Order was given, mayhaps it will be for the best!"</sub> The First Mate hustles over to the cover and then descends below deck to find the Gunner and some courageous seamen.
It takes a good minute before you hear the gun ports quietly opening, and then the rolling of heavy cannons being pushed through.

Suddenly, with thunderous roar, four cannons give shots towards the beast. You hear something that sounds like something wet, like cluster of grapes, being crushed.
The beast rolls to its side and then makes a big splash into the sea.

Moments, tense and terrible, pass as the bubbling on the surface of the water continues on, until it abruptly ends.

Your crewmembers poke their heads out from safety of the woodwork and scan the surroundings.

"It had actually worked, Captain?" Asks the First Mate.

It seems that it has, considering you do not see the Karib Mermaid again that night. Sailors, however, murmur that this was grave insult against Ouronos, and that soon enough a greater calamity of his godly revenge might befall you.

2 Ducats per Sailor a Day for 136 Sailors over 5 Days (1 day overstayed at Costas) from Costas to Pointas: 1.360 Ducats

Divine retribution fails to manifest, however.

The Santa Julia docks at the harbor of Pointas. You can already see the smoke of furnaces and smelters in the back of the colony, black columns rising into the air.

Other than that, it looks pretty nondescript - houses, workshops and taverns lined against streets leading out of the harbor and deeper into the settlement.

"Ready as you are, Captain." Says the Purser, arriving with his ledger in his hands, and the First Mate in tow.

"Ought we visit the Company Man, or the market? We've been seldom in Pointas, so he is the best source of information we might be getting around these parts."

A) "Let's go to the Company Man!"

You order the Suisto delegation and their prophecies out of the palace.

The courtiers murmur that it is for the best.

In much less quantity that expected, with a letter from the mines' administrator. As it turned out, the metal ores are aplenty, but after the initial lode was mined away, the remaining veins are rather narrow and it takes time and effort to excavate a sizeable amount.

He and his prospectors still believe it might be decades before the mines will no longer be profitable, however!


Adding to the trifecta of bounties, this year's harvests were plentiful, especially in grains. People have more than enough and clamor for festivals where they can sacrifice to the spirits and consume the rest.

"We haven't had a proper festival in years, my liege." Says the Advisor, stroking his beard. "Perhaps it is, finally, a time for such."

A) "No!"
B) "Let's partay!!"

"I heard that." Vanessa perks up in surprise, and then blushes again.

"Uh, whatever, you're not that bad." She says and then looks aside for a while, sighing.

A) "Another drink?"
B) CHATTY: "Now that we're alone, what's with your bodyguarding of the Duchess?"
C) CHATTY: "I've spoken with the Duchess about you before, was your family close to hers perhaps?"
D) FLIRTY: "Well, if we're alone, we can have some fun together then, right~?"

"Could be better, but I can't complain." Vanessa hums, and then drinks the remainder of her mix.

"I hoped for a more definite response." The blonde says, while the black-haired android on her side finishes her own drink.

"I am done here. Thank you for information." Mayako says and leaves her seat.

"And now I'm left with the bartender, alone." Vanessa quips, watching Mayako leave, just as you hear a beep from security console.

A) Well, let's go check that console!
B) "Another drink?"
C) CHATTY: "Now that we're alone, what's with your bodyguarding of the Duchess?"
D) CHATTY: "I've spoken with the Duchess about you before, was your family close to hers perhaps?"
E) FLIRTY: "Well, if we're alone, we can have some fun together then, right~?"
