You decide to follow the river southwards, in search for a bridge.

It is not easily forthcoming.

(Supplies: 11)

Only after a whole one day, you find an old bridge. It's decrepit, but, compared to the previous one, is still intact. It's ballustrades are cracked in some places and the layer of dust and grasses poking between stones betray the fact that this bridge wasn't used in years, if not decades.

You pass the bridge, and not long afterwards, the sun goes down. You set up camp, munching on the dry meat and a bread bun, the fire crackling in front of you.

(Supplies: 10)

The Fields are more rough on the side of the river, you notice in the morning. The landscape of shallow slopes and flat earth is replaced by numerous hills and crevices. Wild oats still grow plenty around here, but other vegetation became sparse. The weather seems to be getting worse - a cold wind is blowing and carries dark clouds from the south.

Somewhere around the noon, if your sight does not betray you, you notice a large, old, ruined keep on the horizon. You look at the road you're following and easily discern that it leads towards the ancient castle. The walls have crumbled, but the main keep seems intact.

The clouds above you are thick and dark, but have yet to produce even a single droplet of rain. You could visit the keep, and, if it does start raining, rest inside, waiting for better weather to come.

What say you?

A) Eh, better avoid ancient dungeon ruins of mysteries, and continue on.
B) Some rest under a roof (however ancient it might be) would do nicely.

You decide to ride through Oatstalk Fields.

Next few days you travel the roads, and during these days you try to make best of supplies and various fruit growing at the bushes and trees growing wildly along the roads, but your food supply dwindles anyway.

(Supplies: 12)

Finally, following the ancient road to the south, east, and then southeast, you reach your first, true obstacle in your quest.

A rather wide and deep river cleaves through the fields, and the old stone bridge, once built by proud Etrerians, is now but two sharp pillars sticking out of the waters. You need to find another place to cross the river.

To the north are the overgrown fields with little ruins left. That's where the Fields give way to the Plains, but there's absolutely no guarantee that the stream will get shallower and you will find a ford, if any place to cross, at all.

The other way leads south along the stream. Ruins and wallstones are aplenty there, so there should be enough roads to follow - and somewhere out there, there should be at least one bridge still intact that you can cross. It might take hours, if not days, before you succeed in finding one.

Where to go?

A) Let's take the route through northern grasslands, in hopes of finding a ford.
B) Let's take the route south, and find a bridge which we can safely cross.

"I'm not sure I've understood everything, but I shall do as you ask." The Oracle nods in approval.

"That is good. Your goal is clear, and your devotion to the task budding. Hear this; do not drink or eat when engulfed by the darkness, for as you shall be consuming food, so will be the darkness consuming your soul. Now go. Fulfill your quest." You thank the Oracle for her wisdom and make way back to the palace.

442 AEC, Midwinter

"Do you have to go?" Garden embraces you, her slim figure feeling so warm and comfortable against your chiseled abs and torso.

"Alas, the Oracle's words might be our only way of stopping the Fai, so I have to." The preparations are done, and you have a lots of supplies with you. You depart the castle on a horse, waving to your wife and the Advisor who stand at the gate's archway, looking after you solemnly.

Congratulations! Amet I has embarked on his first ever epic quest!

During the epic quest, you will have a Supplies 'timer' which will decrease the more you rest and loiter on. Of course, certain situations and events might help you replenish your supplies. If you ever run out of supplies, you will have nothing else to do but hastily return home, lest you die of thirst and starvation.

Good luck!

You depart the manor of Count Pirino, one of the easternmost estates in the whole of Kastoria. He has replenished your supplies and prepared fresh bread and dried meats for the road ahead of you.

(Supplies: 14)

Beyond Kastorian borders, to the east, there's naught but Grey Plains and Oatstalk Fields. Once fertile lands of Etrerian peoples, the former are wastelands and the latter are a maze of overgrowth, ruins and ancient roads. Few peoples live at the FIelds, and even less at the Grey Plains.

Speaking of which, whichever route shall you go with? The roads of the Oatstalk Fields could be still be used for navigation, and wild forage could make for easy resupply, but it will take days, if not weeks, until you get to the Mountains.

On the other hand, the Grey Plains are flat and devoid of obstacles, but little vegetation means you could be in trouble if your supplies run out or be otherwise lost... not to mention you might find some bloodthirsty Orks whilst there.

A) I will take the ancient roads of Oatstalk Fields. It might take longer, but at least it will be safer.
B) The situation with the Fai requires haste. I shall ride straight through the Grey Plains.

"It is gold."

"Gold, is it? Are you sure its because you like this color, or because the voices in your head said so?" You blink and stare in consternation and confusion.

"What do you mean, Oracle?"

"The destiny of you and your descendants and ancestors is reigned by whimsical choices of the many voices inside you, rilling you up with uncertainity. Can you not hear them now? Turn your head and see the truth."

For a brief moment, you can see that King Amet is looking at you.

Then you look back at the Oracle, confused.

"Not sure what you mean, Oracle. Nobody's here but me and you." She shakes her head.

"No matter. What you need to do is to free the enemies of the Fai, the Piedgordas. These people of earth and rock have no flesh to consume or no wombs to impregnate, and they hate the Fai with passion, for once they were their servants. They sleep, sleep deeply because the Fly has perched on their Calling Stone and mutes its song. Travel to the Silvery Mountains, for the westernmost peak has the entrance to the cave where the Piedgordas slumber. Inside, find the Stone and swat the Fly off it, so that the Song might be heard by the slumbering ones once again." This gets a little bit too esoteric and mystical to you.

Suddenly you realize that the scent of the brazier smoke is strangely reminiscent to some weeds used by certain, eccentric nobles to 'entertain' themselves.

A) "I'm not sure I've understood everything, but I shall do as you ask."
B) "I will send someone to do what you ask me to, no need to endanger myself."
C) "This is madness, induced by your smoke! I need no such insane counsel."

You tell the Acolyte that you will visit the Oracle as soon as it is possible. He bows and leaves without speaking again.

Next week, you arrive at the Temple of the Firstborn, the singular and only one of the sect of the Oracles of the Firstborn. The Firstborn were the first children of the Mother and the Father, gifted with powers of conjuration, divination and tongue-speaking, yet their pride and excesses caused their fall. Only their youngest daughter, Sara, survived, and embraced a path of seclusion, divination and counselling for those willing to avert bad luck or gain insight into the future.

At least that's what you hear from the acolytes who welcome you to the temple. Everything in here is white - the tapestries, the walls, the roofs and the furniture is made of white-ish timber.

You enter the main chamber where the Oracle herself is sitting, on a pile of dirt and bones. She wears a simple, white robe with a hood that covers her shaved head. Two braziers flank her, and you see wisps of blue smoke emanating from ashen-grey and dark-blue coals inside them.

"Greetings, King Amet of Kastoria. Before I tell you my vision, tell me truthfully, what is your... favorite color?"

A) "White."
B) "I... don't know really. Never thought about it."
C) "It is... (pick a color)."

You decide that there was enough of frivolous beautification and construction at the castle grounds.

422 AEC, Winter

Terriblly harsh rains of the last few weeks have definitely put a hold on the burning of the Forest of the Ancestors. Alarmingly, whilst there wasn't many Fai found and killed (38, that's it), almost a hundred of people (97, exactly) have disappeared since the last report. The Marshal has directed additional soldiers to patrol the burning grounds as well as the border roads and local settlements.

A young acolyte dressed in the white robes of the Oracles of the Firstborn has come to deliver you a message. The shaved youth bows his head in respect to you.

"My king. I've come to inform you that Salamandra Astrada, the Prime Oracle of the Firstborn, has seen the solution for the invasion of the savage Fai, in her most recent vision. She requests that you visit her temple and hear what she has to say." Courtiers murmur in awe and their hushed tones indicate that something's afoot. The Advisor quickly approaches to whisper to you.

"My liege, the Oracles rarely speak their secrets to the outside world and its peoples, be they low or high born. Out of respect for the Firstborn, you ought to obey her summons."

A) "She orders me to come over? Who does she think she is? If she wants to talk with me on important matters, she should visit me instead!"
B) "Good acolyte, convey to your Oracle that I will gladly visit her temple and hear out what she has to say."
D) "Good acolyte, convey to your Oracle that I have no time for visitations, but she is free to send me a letter with instructions."

You decide on the course of action - while the idea is worthy of pursuing it, it is not a time for true colonization. Instead, teachers and preachers will be sent to educate the nomadic groups in the Kastorian ways and sway them over, paving way for settlements later on.

The noblemen nod and murmur in agreement to this.

442 AEC, Midsummer

Quote

It seems that mermaids are as stealthy as they're crafty; they avoid appearing near larger vessels, while few smaller ones have disappeared, only to be found as shipwrecked or beached, their decks drity with bloodstains and the crews missing.

Quote
6*

Your proclamation had quite an effect! Those who worshipped the mermaids not really truthfully quickly decided that their tongues and coin pouches are more valuable to them than some fishgirls in the ocean.

Except those few dozen that were caught and unrepentant - now they are homeless, wandering the streets along the mute ex-blasphemers who have bloody stumps instead of tongues. All in all, less than a hundred of people were punished for their heresy.

422 AEC, Autumn

A report arrives from the north - a mighty fire is consuming the southern edges of the Forest of the Ancestors. The ancient oaks and tall spruces burn splendidly, the smell of burnt resin and ash fills the air, irritating anyone dwelling near the flames. Your men are conducting 'arson parties' in large groups, but since the burnination began, the number of Fai caught (and people disappearing) have been greatly reduced. Those areas that already have burnt to the ground are scoured for corpses, but its hard to determine if that or this heap of ash, charcoal and bone was a murderous Fai or a hapless forest animal caught in the blaze.

Meanwhile, the prettyfying of your palace is coming along nicely. The statue of your dear wife now stands in the garden, while the throne room and main corridors of the keep are decorated with hanging cloth, depicting either Kastorian coat of arms or images of you or your grandfather and founder of the dynasty, Lycwl the First. The local clothiers sure did their best with those tapestries.

It makes the place more colorful and more lively. And you have to agree that the statue in the garden only makes it look grandier. Your wife is especially happy and thinks this is the best image of hers that one could make.

Mayhaps aesthetics isn't that bad of a thing?

A) Let's decorate a little bit more to awe the visitors with beauty and wealth of Kastoria!
B) We're done with aesthetics, though. It's waste of money, at best!

The "treaty" is just an agreement between players, everything else is 3 separate treaties between the 3 in game warlord factions.

If you do not want a treaty with Venti and TricMagic that is fine, but it makes me wonder why.

Also no I don't intend any invasions anytime soon of my southern neighbor.

Noooo, you forgot to deploy ;<;
