You decide to wait for arrival of King Anreu's army.

407 AD, Late Summer

You're sharply awoken from your slumber by two guards, one with a torch, and the Spymaster standing behind them. You have no idea what hour it is, but the sky outside is pitch black. The Spymaster salutes against his heart.

"My liege, my agents have brought an urgent report regarding Velason's rebellion, and after reading it, I have bad news and good news."

A) "Bad news first, so that the good news can sweeten my mood afterwards."
B) "Good news first, it will dampen the impact of the bad news somewhat."

The game is getting cancelled.

The terribly slow-paced in-chapter posting of actions and orders, combined with near-zero amount of roleplay and general sluggishness in posting of players (and, in result, me) is simply not enough to keep the game running.

Out of other reasons, it's simply unthinkable to have 1 or 2 people carry the rest by posting actions/RP, and the others simply dropping by (if ever) to post a reply after several days pass. I am not willing to GM this and I will not GM this anymore.

I had a sequel planned to start right after FEF7, and I will of course do that, the lore I had in mind simply more than enough for another installment. The general history will proceed as if FEF7 was simply concluded after the 'Final Chapter'.

The OOC for FEF8 will be posted on Friday 28th (I hope, at least), along with updated lore and other general information. Many thanks to those who did put work into this - alas, it wasn't destined to last.

That's all folks~!

You hastily write a reply in which you accept any help and promsie to repay when the dark times are over.

407 AD, Midsummer

News arrive from the west - Velason is on the move once more! He has gathered three thousand supporters, of which only a thousand is soldiers, the rest is peasant rabble.

The Marshal coughs and looks at his military scrolls.

"We have somewhere under two thousand soldiers, my liege, despite the draft. We cannot fight in this state."

A) "Empty the cities of their guards, that can give us at least few thousand of men!"
B) "Let's buy those mercenaries, alright?"
C) "We wait for help from Xane-Peon, then."
D) "We can fight and we shall fight with me in the first lines!!"

You tell him to draft some peasants into the ranks of the Army.

407 AD, Summer

Money is sent to Albarra and Satorias, and your Treasurer is happy - some coin did remain in the vaults after all!

You receive a letter from King Anreu of Xane-Peon. In the letter, he flatters your skill and your determination in holding onto the throne, but he points out that people who stand alone rarely are victorious. He is offering that his soldiers join yours in stamping out the pretender, but you're not fooled. Your skill with letters and flattery lets you easily see that Anreu will try to leverage his assistance to you today, and later on make demands that you will be honor-bound to fulfill.

Or maybe you're just a bit paranoid, who knows.

A) I ain't need the help of a schemer!
B) I need his help now. Future we shall leave, well, for my future self!

4687
You order a retreat towards the capital.

407 AD, Late Spring

The situation at the court is stable, for now - your courtiers managed to subdue the malicious intentions of the more disloyal ones, and the courtiers once swayed to scheme against you silently pledged to support your cause.

The Marshal salutes.

"Sire, we need more men!"

A) "Sure, go buy some mercenaries with the money we have."
B) "Have a draft lottery, peasants love draft lotteries."
C) "No."

You attempt to inspire the men!

Quote
4*

Your way with words clearly helps to inspire the officers, and in turn, inspire the soldiers left on the battlefield.

Despite the odds and numbers, they keep on fighting for you!

Quote

This only leads to more casualties, as the rebels keep on fighting too and your ranks collapse! The rebels themselves are small in numbers, and nowhere you see any mounted men. Velason and others probably left the field a while ago.

Your officers urge you to retreat, regroup and retry. You don't really have any other option, and you leave the battlefield as one of the last.

By the evening, your officers provide you with a gruesome report; about two thirds of your army was killed, with about one thousand hundred of rebel corpses accounted for. That leaves you with roughly a thousand, and Velason with three thousand-something men.

Scouts report that the rebel army is in full retreat to the west, moving toward the city of Esaques, one of the first to rebel against you and join Velason's cause.

A) We camp here, and request reinforcements from my court in Kastoria!
B) Let's retreat to the capital, otherwise we're just sitting ducks!

4689
"...Have fun." Ethan nodded to Gawen and left immediately.

4690
You draw your sword and charge at him!!

Quote

He scores a hit, and you feel the cold iron cut into your shoulder, the hotness of spilt blood making you doubt your decision.

Quote
5

In the second bout, you strike cleanly against his face, and as you ride past him, you hear a loud thud as he falls to the ground. You're victorious, but wounded!

Then you notice that the fighting didn't stop, nor the rebels are panicking. This means it wasn't Velason.

Curses!

Quote
2

The battle, despite the dwindling numbers of both Armies more even, is greatly developing in the favor of Velason. You can see that, at the rear of your forces, there's many who abandon their weapons and flee. Your guards and officers gather around you, the latter worried about your wound.

You decide to...

A) Inspire the men!
B) Charge into the fray!
C) Retreat too!

4691
Your army faces the pretender's, your soldiers afraid for their lives.

Quote
4*

Despite the weaknesses and the disadvantages, you manage to lead the ranks into the fray and inflict considerable damage against Velason's forces. You yourself cut down several soldiers, blood and bits of flesh staining your armor and pants and your horse.

Seeing you fighting like a lion, despite the odds, seems to have rebuilt the fighting spirit of your soldiers as well.

Quote
4*

The fighting continues to go your way, and it seems that the bodies of the rebels are more aplenty on the ground that the ones clad in the dark-red of the Kastorian emblem.

Quote

But you put yourself way to the front, and suddenly find that you're surrounded mostly by Velason's rebels! You cut them down before you hear a neigh and a shout - a man in a cape and helmet rushes at you! Is this Velason himself, challenging you to a duel to the death!?

A) CHAAAAARGE!!
B) RUN AWAAAY!!

4692
You announce that you will negotiate with the pretender.

Quote
1*

Next morning, your officers wake you up! A thousand of your men deserted to the pretender's side over the night, the reason being that if you're negotiating with a rebel, you're weak and soft and so on!

The loyal ones who are at your sideare demoralized and they're not afraid of voicing their worries about their future under your banner...

Battle horns! The pretender's army, bolstered by deserters from your camp, is moving right towards your camp.

It seems that you're now receiving your reply to the letter of negotiations.

A) We must retreat!
B) Form ranks! We shall be fighting!
C) I shall lead the fronlines to glory or death!!

"There go my hopes."

"Though I've decided not to appoint anyone - you will do that. If you were able to rule the place in my brother's place, and then keep everything working when he was on the throne, you're the best qualified to find my replacement. Pity the laws doesn't look kindly on usurpation."

"Is six months enough?"

4695
"...are you related to the royal family, perchance?"
