You have him hauled off to the dungeon. He shouts that your illegitimate tyranny will be squashed by people of good conscience, and that's the last anyone hears of him.

407 AEC, End of the Year

You wipe the sweat from your eyebrow.

"My liege, we must do something, for our Treasury is empty!"

About extra year of higher taxation...

A) We must!
B) Noooo!

As for dismissing soldiers and selling ships...

A) Let's sell the ships, but we must keep our Army intact!
B) We need to dismiss part of Army and sell the Navy, or else all is lost!
C) Navy must not be touched, dismiss some soldiers instead!
D) Everything's fine. We don't need to do this!

4727
Ethan scoffed.

"Don't think I will be doing this because I care, Gawen. I'm more afraid of the possibility that I'm gonna be stuck on the throne forever because no one better shows up. Such a life would be torture for me."

4728
You order the money to be sent to the affected areas, while Treasurer stands nearby, eyes full of tears.

407 AEC, Late Winter

You're in middle of a small council with some of your noblemen, debating name changes for some roads in the capital, when suddenly someone crashes through the window!

Quote

It's one of your orcish bodyguards! Who dares he- oh wait, there's someone underneath him, pinned to the ground.

Other orcs yell and growl as they haul the young man from the ground, who only now you see is armed with a sword at his belt.

"Who are you and what is this commotion about? Your King demands an explanation!"

"You are no King!" He yells and spits some bloody saliva at your feet. "I'm Vitor, son of Arrat and the true King of Kastoria! I'm here to dethrone you!"

A) "You ain't dethroning anyone! To dungeon with him!"
B) "Prove your worth to the throne, then. Fight me!!
C) "Then list the laws that would make you more legitimate than me!"

4729
You decide that you do not need to build special monuments to remember Xmantha.

Quote

Unfortunately, that disturbs the more religious of your courtiers who see your blatant lack of reverence to your wife, who gave her life during labor, as gross offence against the Mother and Father. You try to reason and calm them down, but its obvious that if part of your nobles will get angry, some of your peasants will get angry as well.

407 AEC, Winter

Terrible news! Black fever, the lethal disease that kills hundreds of children per year, have infested the body of your little son, Kemen!

Quote

Fortunately, he is one of those lucky children who not only survive the disease, but get back to full health afterwards. What a champ!

407 AEC, Midwinter

Torrential rains this Winter have devastated the coast lands of Kastoria. Many settlements have been flooded or otherwise inundated, leaving many people homeless and without means of survival.

Mayors and elders of cities and villages in the south desperately plead the Crown to provide them with cash, so that they can expand their relief efforts for greater percentrage of affected populace.

A) "Sorry, but I need the cash."
B) "Of course they can have it!"

4730
Wait, technically you don't have enough money for A.

* Haspen goes remove it.

4731
You accept the money. The diplomats leave the coinage with you and leave the premises.

The Treasurer reports that the money received is slightly more than the Treasury got from the salt trade this year. Not much to do with, but also not much to repay in the future.

407 AEC, Autumn

You wife Xmantha gives birth to a girl! She names the loudly crying baby 'Arina', per Mother's priviledge.

407 AEC, Two mornings later

Quote

You hold the hand of your dearest wife. It is cold to touch and her skin, once healthy and beautiful, is now attaining the sickly whiteness of death.

Complications from birth of Arina have allowed a fever to set in yesterday, a fever that astounded your healers with its severity and speed in which it put Xmantha into bed. And just a moment ago, the healers called for you, as your wife have passed away in great pain.

Along with other courtiers, you put on the black hood of mourning.

A) -
B) A grand statue of marble and gold must be commissioned to preserve her image!
C) She will always have a special place in my heart.

You decide to raise the taxes for the next year.

407 AEC, Spring

Salt caravan from the west arrives on schedule.

Quote
2to5

Salt remains reliable trade good and brings profits to the Treasury.

407 AEC, Summer

Whatever money there is left in the Treasury, is sent to the victors.

Fortunately this is also the last Summer in which money must be sent to Maestrimar. Only five more years of tribute to Kastoria and Albarra remain.

407 AEC, Midsummer

A delegation of Maellian diplomats arrives, with three wagons filled with money! The leader of the diplomats, a tall, bald, tanned man, bows in respect before you.

"Greetings, King Lycwl of Kastoria! Our mistress, the benevolent and ever-generous Queen Yanna, has learned that harsh tributes deplete the your royal Treasury, and therefore is offering a certain amount of money as a gift." The Advisor coughs.

"A gift?"

"Well!" The head diplomat smiles. "Queen Yanna believes in fair trade and fair repayments, and only asks that when you rebuild your wealth, you simply send the money back as a sign of your own, personal, generosity. Consider this our own way at strengthening relationships between countries and royal families."

You decide to...

A) Take the money.
B) Reject the gift.

4733
"I'm sure that in a civil war there would be more than enough work for criminals like me, Lysander. Plus, you won't be returning to my crew after this is over, anyway." Ethan blinked.

"I assume Gawen haven't told you yet."

"As for the kingdom, fine. I will keep the crown as long as we need to find a willing guy to sit on the throne."

@Ronza:

The Sister perked up when she heard about excess of herbs.

"Oh, if you have too many herbs, I'm willing to buy some, let's see... about ten bundles? I could give you two hundred for them."

Venza and Rowan quickly found a small apothecary just few houses away from the inn where Princess was resting.

It was an establishment run by the Sisters' cult, with one big Sister sitting behind the desk. Placed on the wall shelves, there were potions and bags and staves on display.

"Welcome to my humble Adobe, travelers, and may Sisters bless you! How can I be of help?"

You tell the guard to inform the envoy that marriage for your son has been already arranged, and should return home.

The guard comes back saying the diplomat left unhappy.

Few days later you receive a report from the Admiral.

Quote

He says that the funds and resources they had allowed for construction of several dozen transport ships and several sturdy galleys.

Not long after, the Marshal also brings you a report.

His officers did their job, and they've managed to procure over a thousand mercenaries for the Army!

"Sire, the peace tributes we're sending to our neighbours have depleted the Treasury considerably. Unless we want to face state bankruptcy next year or so, I strongly advise to raise the taxes for a year. We could also dismiss some part of the Army and appropriate resources, or sells our ships to merchants for a profit."

As for increase in taxes...

A) "Yes, our people can endure a year of extra taxation."
B) "Better not."

As for the military cuts...

A) "We can sell the ships, but the Army must remain strong!"
B) "We have no other option than dismiss soldiers and sell ships!"
C) "Navy is our priority, but we can disband part of our land forces."
D) "No, I don't think we need either of these drastic measures."

Albrecht nodded, whilst Sophia sighed and laid down on the bed. This time however, she turned onto her side, probably intending to take a nap.

The others had plenty of time to search for open shops and buy things!

You send the Army to deal with the orkish raiders.

406 AEC, Late Winter

Quote

Your Army isn't very good at dealing with highly-mobile raiders, it seems! Few packs were scattered at the costs of several dozen of your men perishing. The problem still persists, but your officers guarantee they will either kill or rout the orks.

Meanwhile, you receive news that an emissary from the distant Kingdom of Gellaine up the coast to the northwest, past the aeries of Cbran drakes. The guards say that he is here to offer a marriage proposal for your son and heir, to tie the two royal families together.

You decide to...

A) Inform him that he is a bit too late for that, and dismiss him.
B) Let him in and hear him out.

4739
"And you're not a good claimant because...?"

4740
Ethan glared at his accountant.

"Good to know. My first order of business will be to prepare abdication papers, I guess. But that's after we're done with the treasures."
