You agree to the bethrotal. The envoy bows his head.

"May Mother and Father bless you with many more children, King Lycwl." He bows again and leaves hurriedly.

406 AEC, Midwinter

Orks are raiding the eastern settlements!

Mounted on giant wolves or lizards, the orks are attacking the settlements, burning down houses, stealing grain, cattle, women and children. There's approximately several groups of them, accounting to somewhere between five hundred to a thousand, the scouts have hard time keeping count of these highly mobile troops.

You decide to speak up with the Orcish bodyguards of yours, for surely they know their less civilized brethren the best. They snort and grumble at your question.

"You humans are weak, and they know it. Do not negotiate, do not bribe, just kill. If mountain of skulls you make is bigger than theirs, they shall flee and not bother you again."

A) "I'm sure we can resolve this with negotiations rather than mountains of skulls."
B) "I'm more willing to sacrifice money rather than troops. Bribe it is!"
C) "Fine, my Army shall go and create the biggest mountain of Orkish skulls ever seen!"
D) "Eh, I can afford having them raid our borders for a while. Once they get bored, they will leave."

Ethan blinked at both Gawen and Claude.

"...excuse me, you actually believe that I'm gonna play King for the rest of my life?"

4743
You name him Kemen. The child will, one day, become King Kemen of Kastoria!

406 AEC, Mid-Spring

News arrive from Xane-Peon.

King Anreu II managed to finally quell the Peonian insurgency, at the very high cost. The economy of the region is in ruins, and tens of thousands of Peonians and Xanians died in the war. At least your western neighbour finally has peace.

406 AEC, Summer

The money is sent to the victorious countries of the last war.

406 AEC, Winter

Shortly after the peaceful Autumn is replaced on the calendar with Winter, a diplomat from the northernly, large yet poor Kingdom of Maelia appears at your doorstep!

The elderly man, clad in the white and gold robes, bows before you, and smiles.

"Greetings, King Lycwl of Kastoria! I'm here on behalf of my mistress, Queen Yanna II. She has heard of your fledgling dynasty and would like to for a closer relationship with your and your family. Therefore she proposes that her youngest child, a three years old daughter, also named Yanna, be bethroted to your newborn son, Kemen."

A) "Solves the marital hassle later on. We have a deal!"
B) "Sorry, he's not worthy the hand of Maellian Princess!"

4744
You decide to toss money at the Army and see what happens.

406 AEC, Spring

The salt caravan from the west arrives.

It provides moderate profits, filling the Treasury with much needed coinage.

Joy! Joy in the court and the streets!

Your dutiful wife, Xmantha, has given birth to another boy. As there's no deadly payments overdue this time, everyone is glad that a heir to the throne of Kastoria has been born. Everyone hopes he will survive long enough to get there.

You're the Father of the child, and therefore the priviledge of naming goes to you. Clerics and courtiers alike remind you that to use the name of the dead brings bad luck, but then again, who cares? You decide!

A) Lycwl
B) Aitor
C) Danel
D) Iokin
E) Gozon
F) Hodin
G) Kemen
H) Arrat
I) Ortz
J) Ximund
K) Igon
L) (provide new name here)

"I will stay to guard the Princess as well." Sophia let out a sigh.

"As you wish... myself, I will lay down and rest a while longer."

The Princess' cry soon turned into a sniffle, and she took her hands away, her cheeks red. She wiped her face off into the sleeves of her robe.

"You're... you're right... I wanted to pursue a... a vendetta, do something to avenge, to avenge Joachim p-personally... but maybe... maybe I'm not cut for this..." One final sniffle, one final rub of the eyes, and she looked up at her guards.

"We will... we will be returning to the capital, then."

//Route C is now active!

"Did the commander mention giving us supplies or such?" Albrecht, who was silent till now, spoke up.

"Unfortunately, no. We've been given an escort of fifty men, and that's all." The Princess let out a sigh, and passed the party funds to Priscilla.

"I do not wish to trouble the commander with additional demands. Please use the funds to buy supplies for all. I don't want our group to be a burden for our escorts if we're attacked again."

For interest of others, I've already prepared a somewhat-tanky pegasus rider to use in this.

Just waiting for recruitment to start.

You magnaminously sponsor construction of the new navy ships. The Admiral salutes.

"Give us a year, sire, and we will have dozen of ships ready!" He leaves happy.

405 AEC, End of the Year

You enjoy the cool breeze, standing in front of the window, when you hear knocking on the door of your study.

"Enter!" You turn around as you call the intruder in. No one is surprised when the Advisor steps in, with Scrolls of the Kingdom Status. This was a good year, and it was a fast year.

The good ones always feel short.

Happiness: 5
Population: 3
Economy: 4
Army: 3
*Navy: 0

When was the last time these numbers were this good? At least few years back, for sure.

"My liege, while our navy is being rebuilt, how about we replenish our army with more mercenaries? Enough coin will do the trick, and our Treasury is doing well."

A) "Economic forecasts for the next year say otherwise!"
B) "Never there was profit without some spending first!"

4750
You deny peasants the money.

The festivals, I mean.

405 AEC, Winter

It seems that the Admiral wants to have a talk with you.

"My liege." He sits at the other side of your desk. "This winter, with no rain and gentle winds, is perfect opportunity to recover our Navy somewhat. We could spend next few months building transport ships and galleys. There's already some lumber, hemp and tar stockpiled in the arsenals, and if we were to be provided with money for expenses, we could begin construction in matter of days."

A) "You will have the money. After all, what is a coastal Kingdom with no navy?"
B) "Sorry, budget's tight."

The rapid-fire questions scared the Princess.

"I... I'm.. I don't... I..." She turned away, and sat on the edge of the bed. Then the tears came, and she hid her face in her hands, the staves clattering on the floor.

"Joachim!... I'm so useless!!..." Then the tears turned into a bawling of a child.

@Althateam:

The bearded wizard in charge of the library stared at Altha for a while as she looked through the books.

"Good day to you too?"

"If you happen to have some old tomes that you do not know what to do with them, I can take them. I pay fairly."

4753
You explain to the court that this was the Witch's payment, and nothing can be done about it.

405 AEC, Mid-Autumn

The harvest has been splendid this year! Granaries are filled up and the markets are bustling with farmers and merchants trying to sell excess produce. Even grapes and fruits grew plentiful on the trees.

That's why together with your courtiers, both the clerics of the Mother and the Father came to ask you to sponsor royal festivals to celebrate the good harvest, thank the Mother for the growth, and the Father for pleasant weather.

A) Sure thing, let's have some wild parties!
B) But muh Treasury!!

4754
I suspect it was D the tomb curse. But C works too.

4755
You have the tomb opened!

Unfortunately, the tomb must've belonged to some low-ranking noble or official. Besides a collection of crystalline figurines and cut crystals lined on the walls, the tomb was bare, and the sarcophagus contained only a singular skeleton wrapped in remains of cloth. Also, some more figurines and crystals were there as well.

The crystals and crystalware found inside will surely fetch a nice price on the market, the Treasurer will make sure of that.

405 AEC, Autumn

Panic seized the court as the little Crown Prince Lycwl was found dead in his crib!

As the maids of your wife went to prepare the toddler's room for the birthday ritual, they found the crib empty except for a grotesque, thoroughly cleaned skeleton of a male baby. Not a speck of blood stained any nearby bedcloth, nor there was even a bit of infant's flesh remaining on the bones.

A wide-open window was the only evidence of an entry, but as the window is facing the courtyard belwo and the sky above, your guards and courtiers are dumbfounded as how to anyone or anything could've entered. The Orcish bodyguard that stood guard at the door already carved his heart out as an apology to you.

Your wife is in tears, your court is shaken, and many are trying to find the culprit.

A) It was an assassin sent by our enemies in Satorias or Maestrimar, I can bet!
B) It was one of the Orcish bodyguards, still disloyal to me. Purge the blackskins!
C) No doubt the Witch, somehow, came to collect her gruesome payment!
D) It's the curse of the Aliums! We must take the crystals back and re-bury the remains!
