You decide to raise taxes for a year.

405 AEC, Spring

The trade goods from Xane-Peon arrive on schedule!

Quote
2to5, 5to6

Just like the last year, salt brings profit, cloth brings wealth and praise.

The envoy that accompanied the caravans does not have good news. "I'm afraid that our trade agreement for cloth will be suspended for a while. Peonian rebels have taken control of the cities producing these lovely fabrics and we cannot supply them to foreigners anymore."

405 AEC, Mid-Spring

Sad news come from Xane-Peon!

King Anreu died in the fighting with the rebels during the siege of Calabena. His (barely) fifteen-years old son, Anreu, has been enthroned as King Anreu II.

405 AEC, Summer

Tribute money is sent to Albarra, Maestrimar and Satorias.

A report comes from the mayor of the city of Saltena, located just a day ride north from the capital. The workers digging ground for a new section of the city walls have found a buried tomb!

The squiggly runes made with chalk on the stones, and tall, deformed skeletons wrapped in cloth, 'standing guard' against the uncovered part of the tomb's outer wall are clear evidence that it is the tomb of the ancient Aliums, the only race of beings that used magic as everyday tools.

They've also left behind their indecipherable pictograms, crystalline tableware, magical artifacts, deadly curses, forest demons, and the mystery of their spontaneous, mass disappearance from the world, centuries before the rise of Etreria.

The Saltenian mayor asks whether the tomb is to be buried under dirt and rock or opened and plundered.

A) GIB LOOT PLZ!
B) Bury it back from whence it came!

@Shae:

"It makes you go fast, very useful in dueling."

@Fastteam:

The group arrived at the shop of an elderly staff-maker. Wooden shafts in various stages of carving were piled behind him, and he was busily attaching lens, crystal, and some adhesive to a carved shaft.

He looked up at the arriving girls, and put the items on a piece of cloth, prepping the shaft against his desk.

"Welcome to Joachim's. How can I help you?"

You decide to have the Orcish conspirators brought in for a talk.

Only right as they arrive you realize that maybe talking to a bunch of scheming brutes with strange honor values might not be the best idea.

Quote

But even the Orcish brutes fall victim to the honey that comes rolling out your tongue! They fall to their knees, beating their foreheads against the floor when you expose them. The chief conspirator takes his ceremonial dagger and carves his own heart out for you as a form of apology.

Assassination crisis averted, at the cost of one bloodstained carpet and one dead orc. Hooray!

404 AEC, End of the Year

The cool breeze of this wintertime is a lovely time to compose a poem.

Three words into it, however, the Advisor disturbs you, because its time for you to view the Scrolls of Kingdoms Status!

"My liege, our people are quite content after the last year of your leadership. Our Treasury is a bit empty, mayhaps it be a good time we press the peasants to pay more taxes for a while?"

A) "Sure, one year of raised taxation never hurt anybody!"
B) "Nu!"

Recently bought Reventure on Steam (because 40% discount makes it almost dirt cheap), and boy, it's fun!

It's full of humor, and 100 endings. Some hilarious, some gruesome, some are both. It has plenty of unlockables, secrets, shortcuts and shout-outs innit.

Lovely pixel graphics included, although on certain small rooms the game zooms on those pixels and the blur is just a bit eye-jarring. Soundtrack is full of nice chiptunes - Pirate's Cliff is my favorite of all!

Currently at 64/100 endings, and finding new ones actually became challenging (after all, you can stab everyone only once).

You name his Lycwl. He is your heir to the throne!

404 AEC, Winter

There's an uprising - no, not in Kastoria, but in Xane-Peon. Apparently, in recent weeks, King Anreu has gotten a little tiny bit mentally unstable, prone to brawling fits, bouts of paranoia and spontaneous defecation in the throne room. Apparently, the Peonian noble families decided its a good opportunity to rebel and try to become independent again.

Back to Kastoria now!

One evening, when you're walking through dimly lit corridors in the eastern wing, no one else but Spymaster bumps onto from the shadows. He keeps his face hidden in the hood.

"Greetings, sire, I bring news of traitorous talk within the castle."

"Who is it?"

"Your Orcish bodyguards, sire." You frown. Their loyalty was guaranteed! Or was it?

"And why would, of all the people, my Orcish bodyguards scheme against me?"

"Your defeat in the war as well as giving in to demands of a woman - the Witch, that's it -and filing up ranks of Army with criminals has made you weak and dishonorable in the eyes of your bodyguards. Some speak of desertion as you're unworthy, some speak of your assassination - and then desertion. From what my agents managed to learn, assassinating a weak ruler to make place for a better replacement is perceived as an honorable deed in Orcish culture."

A) "Round up the conspirators and have them all killed!"
B) "Round up the conspirators, I shall have a talk with them."
C) "Me? Weak? Ha! Gather them up, I will challenge the biggest and strongest to a duel!!
D) "Round up the conspirators and have them exiled back to their homelands!"
E) "Their loyalty was guaranteed by the Orcish lords. I trust they will do no harm."

@Shaeteam:

The group soon arrived at the apothecary without any more fellow noblegirls showing up to ruin Shae's mood.

A short, energetic Sister clapped her hands when the trio entered.

"Welcome to Saint Perisca's Licensed Apothecary and Herbal Medicines of Blumhart City, travelers! If you're looking for our fabled medicinal elixirs of high quality and potency, I'm afraid we don't have any at the moment. I've just shipped away a large order for the Army, so it will be few days at least until I will be able to restock. I have some less powerful pharmacies available, though!"

@Frends:

The Princess' head momentarily dropped in defeat. However, after a moment of silence, she gripped on her staves harder and looked at Priscilla.

"And as my servant, y-y-you have to do what I say."

You send letters to the bandit groups, offering money if they renounce their evil ways and take up honest work as soldiers of the Kingdom.

404 AEC, Mid-Spring

Quote

The letters have dramatic effect. The bandits, learning of your merciful (and profitable) offer, have begun joining the Army en masse. Hundreds per week arrive at local garrisons, asking to be drafted into the ranks. Only few thugs and thieves remain in the woods, keeping clear off roads.

Ranks of your Army swell and all courtiers praise your cunning solution to the bandit problem - and of course peasants feel safer, too!

404 AEC, Summer

Money is sent to Maestrimar, Satorias and Albarra.

404 AEC, Autumn

Normally, a newborn's squeal is an occasion to be joyful, but the fate of the child wears heavily on your courtiers, and your wife Xmantha especially.

Your wife has given birth to a healthy baby boy!

Because you're his Father, the ancient law gives you the priviledge of naming it. Historians and scholars provide you with a list of locally popular names, but of course you can name him after yourself, or make a new name entirely.

The boy's name will be...

A) Lycwl
B) Aitor
C) Danel
D) Iokin
E) Gozon
F) Hodin
G) Kemen
H) Arrat
I) Ortz
J) Ximund
K) Igon
L) (provide new name here)

@Shaeteam:

The trio gasped.

"Filthy servant! Know your place!"

"How dare you backtalk to us like that! Don't you know who we are!?" Marie pointed her thin finger at Shae.

"We won't gonna forget that, Shae! I'm gonna talk to my dad, and even your father fears the High Judge! You just wait!" She turned her horse away. "Come girls, we don't have time for such lowlifes like these!" After doing a synchronized 'hmph!' and pulling their noses off, the girls rode off.

4766
@Althateam:

"There is, actually. 25 coins on every item bought here."

@Shaeteam:

"Dohohoho! Did you hear that?"

"Even her father forbids her from having a horse."

"And I bet she's going to the apothecary to buy some pills to forget how terrible her situation is." The trio of ladies dohohohoh'd in amusement. The red-haired Marie took her horse to block Shae's way.

"Where you going, Shaeeee? We're having such a nice conversation!" The other two almost rode their horses closer.

"Indeed! It's impolite to just walk away like this, you know?"

4767
You send the Army to deal with the riots.

403 AEC, Midwinter

Peasant rabble is nothing compared to your soldiers. Hundreds of citizens die, the rest get arrested or flee to safety!

Order is restored, hurrah!

403 AEC, End of the Year

You somewhat dreaded this day, and the day has come.

The Advisor quietly walks into your bedroom, letting you, like every year, look into the Scrolls of Kingdom Status.

The Advisor shakes his head and you sigh - nothing can be done at the moment about those terrible, terrible numbers.

404 AEC, Spring

Caravans from Xane-Peon are here!

Quote
2to5, 5to6

Salt brings quite some profits, but it is the soft and insulating Peonian fabrics that get you money! Noblemen of your Kingdom have taken a great liking for the dyed clothes of the west. Not even paying attention to the price, they buy and re-buy the clothes if only to have them for themselves. They also praise the man who allowed them to have good access to these luxurious fabrics - you.

Not all is well in Kastoria, however.

Common people go about hungry, the winter having been harsh and the harvests mediocre. Many of them, seeing no other option available, have taken upon the dishonorable ways of banditry. Several such large groups roam the roads and glades in the northeast, towards the Orcish steppes, mugging peasants and noblemen alike, if only they have valuables or food, or both. There's even a man callinghimself Huero, the Bandit King, apparently exercising authority over several such bandit groups.

A) We cannot fight them - let's bribe them and have them join the Army.
B) Our Army will march forth and eradicate the bandits from our lands.
C) I don't see any way that we can handle this problem at the moment.

@Shaeteam:

"Oh my, oh my! Lookit here!" A girly voice spoke from behind them.

"Isn't it the Governor's daughter, little Shae??" Another followed.

"Hello Shae! Unable to get yourself a pony still, hmm?" The three girls, all mounted on beautiful white mares, burst into high-pitched laughter.

The best 'friends' of Shae: Marie, Clarie and Ruderberta, were here! Isn't it just wonderful!?

@Althateam:

The group quickly arrived at the Reich Weapons Manufacture. The price list was hanging above the counter.

Quote from: Reich Weapons Manufacture

The clerk behind the counter sized Siegfried and Niels up.

"You're Reich soldiers?"

4769
@Shae:

"Good, good, very good. A proper behaviour for a refined noble lady like you. Never give up." He broke the hug and gently pushed her toward the table, walking there himself.

@Team:

"That is good to hear." The Captain turned when he saw the Governor approaching.

"Please protect my daughter well, and I'm sure she and her maid will be of us to you in your investigation of Goveron. If you excuse me, I need to be going. Captain. Shae." The bearded man nodded to the two and then walked off, his heavy boots clanking against the floor.

"We've been given a thousand Reichmarks in cash to provide for weapons and supplies that we might need. Siegfried, Altha, Niels. You will be in charge to procure weapons and tomes. Brunhilde, you will assist Miss Shae and Miss Simona in procurement of medicine and whatever other utilities you might consider useful. Altha and Miss Shae should know the city best, and shall lead you well, I'm sure."

//Party gets 1000 Reichmarks!

"As for myself, there's some administrative work I have to finish before we leave. I will be waiting for you all by the western gate in an hour. See you all there." The Captain turned around and left the building hastily.

You agree to the payment, and the Witch leaves.

Courtiers mumble, grumble and argue, while your guards pry your bawling wife from your legs and help her out of the view and into her chambers.

403 AEC, Winter

The western cities are aflame, the distressed messenger reports to you.

Unlike the rebellion earlier, the rioting mobs of angry peasants are beating up noblemen and royal officials alike (with special attention being given, of course, to the tax collectors). Several dozen casaulties have been reported so far, and few city mayors are obviously unable to keep the angry peasantry in check. They ask the Crown for immediate assistance.

A) I'm sure they can all manage on their own.
B) I will send them gold so they can bolster the city guards with some mercenaries.
C) I will send our royal and brave Army to bring peace and stability to the cities.
