The Marshal enters the throne room, and salutes to you.

"My liege, I personally bring an urgent request to you. If we're to continue the fight against Kingdom of Satorias, we need men, and soon! Otherwise, we will be defeated in next battle, and naught but surrender will remain an option." The courtiers murmur at the Marshal's defeatism, but what can the man do?

A) "I will hire mercenaries and draft peasants to replenish the ranks of your Army!"
B) "I will hire mercenaries to replenish your ranks!"
C) "I will draft peasants to replenish your ranks!"
D) "Alas, there's nothing I can do."

You declare that you're a politician, not a warrior, and your generals will do best in their element.

After a month on the seas, there's a report from the Admiral; the navy was scattered during the storms and then Maestrimar flottillas picked off your ships and squadrons apart. Few cogs returned intact to moor at the Kastorian ports, their captain refusing to leave port. You have no navy left to speak of.

The Marshal took the Kastorian army against Maestrimar invaders first, and in a field battle, killed their captain and drove the rest into the seas!

Then, two weeks later, the armies of Kastoria and Satorias met at the Solgado Forest, where a brutal melee ensued. Casualties reached four thousand, evenly spread between the two armies, until it was the Satoriassi forces whose spirits broke and the men were sent running. Marshal has since withdrawn the forces to the Capital, not willing to endanger his depleted and exhausted forces with another skirmish.

And so he has arrived for an audience with you.

So does a Satoriassi envoy, here to discuss the terms of peace.

You decide to...

A) Speak with your Marshal first.
B) Meet with Satoriassi envoy first.

4848
You send the navy out to harass Maestrimar cities while the Army is to fight the enemy on the borders.

The Marshal salutes to you.

"Shall you lead us to glory and victory, my liege?"

A) "I'm a politician, not a warrior."
B) "OBVIOUSLYYYYYY!"

4849
You attempt to negotiate between the two so they find a mutual solution to this problem.

In the end, the it is decided, mostly on your urging, that the Royal Treasury will pay the drake a nominal sum for the damages. The drake takes the gold but hisses menacingly at you.

"And ass usual, my kind isss treated worsse because of your human ssuperiority beliefsss. I will take thiss to the Flameheartss and Arbitersss of my city. This is not the end of thiss, I sswear." He paces out of the throne room angrily, and Lord Gabrrel smooches your ring.

"I knew that our most benevolent King would not let the savage animal have its way." Smooch smooch, his fat lips go against the gold of your ring.

401 AEC, Late Autumn

Kingdoms of Satorias and Maestrimar have launched an invasion of your Kingdom!!

Citing your refusal to let the Albarran peoples go, King Xon III of Satorias, along with his newest buddy, King Jacobu of Maestrimar, have sent their armies and ships against you.

Attacking from the sea, Maestrimar has landed about a thousand of its own axemen and longbowmen on the westernmost coast, few days of march from the wealthy port of Caborra. Their fleets seems more concentrated on fetching troops rather than harassing your coastal settlements.

Attacking from the land, Satorias has sent approximately eight thousand troops, mostly macemen, javelineers and archers through the Vago forests at the southeastern border, and are approaching the local fortress of Lord Semy.

War council gathers hastily, and the Marshal and the Admiral both ask for instructions. The Admiral reports that he can't win against Maestrimar fleet in direct naval combat, and your Marshal is unsure of you can score victories against Satoriassi forces that double Kastorian numbers currently. In light of this, many of your courtiers are clamoring that you should send peace envoys right away.

As for the fleet...

A) It is to protect our cities from direct assault.
B) It is to stop the Maestrimar transports from landing more troops.
C) It is to set sail and harass Maestrimar port cities in the south.

As for the Army...

A) It is to stay at the capital for now.
B) It shall meet our foes in the field.

As for negotiations...

A) We shall negotiate after we win the war!
B) Let's ask for peace, the sooner, the better.

//No split votes and so on.

You decide to postpone any harsh decisions till you get some diplomatic information from the Maestrimarians.

401 AEC, Mid-Autumn

You have two visitors today - a pudgy Lord, Xeso Gabrrel from Kastorian border, and a Cbran drake, Saat'r, with his left wing wrapped in cloth.

As it turns out, an unfortunate incident have happened at the northwestern border a week ago, in the marshlands belonging to Lord Gabrrel. His soldiers, while on a patrol, have shot down one of the Cbran drakes, mistaking it for a predatory wyrm. The drake survived the fall and is now sueing Lord Gabrrel for attempted assasination.

"This is Kingdom of Kastoria, not the Cbran aeries. You cannot simply fly over my lands and think I will not protect myself! If you wanted to cross my lands, you should've landed and approached my soldiers on foot." The pudgy lord slurps in between words, and the drake glares at him, the amber eyes narrowing to slits.

"I wass only carrying messsage between sssome of our merchantsss." The drake hisses, its bleak green skin tensing. "You do not own the ssskies above your landss, and therefore hass no power over uss. What I think iss that you wanted to kill me, and make fabricss out of my hide, ass you people did in ancient timess."

The drake undoes the wrappings on his wing and shows you the damage, a puncturing wound that seemingly refuses to heal. "With thisss as it isss, my career asss Carrier is ruined foreverss. I demand compenssation, as cusstomary in this sssituation."

You decide to...

A) Side with Lord Gabrrel, demanding that the drake leave lest you imprison him for invading your territories.
B) Demand that Lord Gabrreel pay the drake in gold for damaging his wing and crippling it for life.
C) Attempt to negotiate between the two, so they come to an agreement without you making a decision.

4851
You agree to this deal, and the contracts are signed in two copies, one for you and one for the envoy. The caravans should arrive by next Spring or mayhaps Summer.

Next is the report from the port governors.

The written report indicates that the Kingdom of Maestrimar, never a friend of Kastoria, especially in recent years, has begun launching raids against some settlements at the coasts as well as few trade ships that were sailing under Kastorian flag.

The governors are asking that the Royal Fleet is mobilized for patrol duties, especially that no naval warfare is currently occuring near the coasts and shores of the Kingdom.

You decide to...

A) Send an envoy to the Kingdom of Maestrimar. We want friends, not enemies here!
B) Do nothing, its probably just some pirates and other unruly folk.
C) Send the fleet to keep the seas safe and secure.

You decide to finish the trade negotiations with Xane-Peon.

The bald emissary, draped in white and black robe and cloak, respectively, bows his head in respect.

"May Dogu prevent ill and death from coming to you, King Lycwl. I'm here on behalf of King Anreu, to bring you the reply regarding the trade deals. King Anreu, as much as he is pleased to hear you wish to reestablish the old ties, is not willing to send all the Kingdom's goods over to you. Instead, he counter-proposes that both fabrics and salt will be sold to the peoples of Kastoria."

A) "Sure, sounds good to me."
B) "Actually, out of those two, I think I will take only fabrics, thank you."
C) "Actually, out of those two, I think I will take only salt, thank you."
D) "This does not please me, however! If I can't have everything, I shall have nothing. Shoo!"

You send the Orcish envoy along with the Treasurer so they can pick up their money. The envoys leave under heavy guard, at least so that they can reach the border safely.

The orcish guards make their home at one of the unfurbished barracks, seemingly preferring flat ground for seating and haystacks for bedrolls.

401 AEC, Autumn

Two audiences await you this warm autumn day!

A disturbed messenger from the governors of the southern port cities, wishes to deliver an urgent report about sightings and incidents relating to coastal raiders from Kingdom of Maestrimar.

The other person wishing for an audience is the envoy of the King of Xane-Peon, wishing to further negotiate the trade deals you've offered to the Xane-Peonian merchants and their King.

A) Commerical deals first!
B) Coastal security first!

You attempt to force the envoy to promise more money for liberation of Albarra.

"King Xon knew that the Kastorians should not be trusted - greed runs in the blood of all the peoples here!" The envoy is pretty incited. "There will be no deal." The emissary leaves hurriedly.

401 AEC, Summer

The orcish dignitaries have arrived, bringing with them about twenty orcs. The bodyguard orcs are at least half, to full head taller than the dignitaries, as well as a bit bulkier.

"Greetings, hooman king. We come back as sworn before. These twenty of finest breed will be your guards. They serve, and fight, and die for honor for themselves and their families!" The orcs grunt and hiss and growl in agreement.

"We demand the money for the services of our brethren. You pay now."

A) "How about we postpone the payment a bit, I'm kinda tight on cash right now."
B) "Actually, I've changed my mind. Go away, and take your guards with you!"
C) "You've got me some bodyguards, and my Treasurer will get you cash in exchange!"

4860
You try to convince him to give you more.

"I was given some leeway in negotiations, and therefore on behalf of my King, I shall offer that we double-pay in the first of the six years, so you would end with seven years of the half of silver bullion."

A) "More?"
B) "No!"
C) "Sure."
