You name Houlandin, son of Deathan, as your designated heir. There's some grumbling about designating someone from such a 'side' branch of the dynasty, but the designation is accepted with no protests.

Next morning, the war council gathers. The Advisor, the Marshal, the Spymaster, many high officials and officers arrive to convene with you about the quite possible Damdamian invasion. The Spymaster repeats what his agents have learned, with additional update; now at least ten thousand Damdamians, at least two-thirds infantry, are within borders of Kingdom of Rucus.

"We should strike pre-emptively into lands of Rucus." The Marshal says, "Rucusians are basically Damdamians living on the fringelands, we ought to get rid of them too. Two birds, one stone!" The Advisor scoffs.

"What we need to do is rally our friends and family. Helliste, maybe even Albion and Eldrican would be willing to lend us a hand. I also believe that we should send more spies to Rucus, or even diplomats to their court. Hopefully more detailed information will be obtained as to the actual purpose of the army in Rucus."

"M'liege," the Spymaster interjects, "What we do not know is the actual size and capabilities of armies within Damdamia. How many countries did they gather under their banner? How much of reserve force they have? How many allies willing to strike us as well? Rucus can be observed by border guards, its Damdamian heartlands that must be infiltrated and scouted."

Other officials also give the ideas of calling Sim Empire, which is situated at Damdamian east, for help, or even rallying Cult of Pantheon to provide arms and soldiers of faith to defend against southern heathens. Short time is spent debating the idea of requesting support from Dwarves, who for sure are not friends of Damedian worshippers.

There's many things to decide:

First of all, the first move...

A) We will invade Rucus to deal with Damdamian army before it fully assembles!
B) We will gather our armies on southern border, to be ready for the storm when it comes!

Secondly, spies and diplomats...

A) We will send spies and diplomats to Rucus.
B) We will send spies to Damdamia, and diplomats to Rucus.
C) We will send spies and diplomats to Damdamia.

As for emergency mobilization...

A) We need all the men and preparedness we can get!
B) No need for that now, it will only anger the commoners.

As for help from foreign countries...

A) Methiant is strong, and needs no outside help!
B) We will ask Kingdom of Helliste for help.
C) We will ask Eldrican Kingdom for help.
D) We will ask Sim Empire for help.
E) We will ask the Dwarves for help.

You quickly call the council to discuss the appointing of the heir.

With only half of the courtiers in the hall, you explain that due to inevitable war with Damdamia - on which you will elaborate soon - you need to designate a heir right away. Your noblemen and advisors murmur loudly before the Advisor brings peace to the court with the iron ball.

During the council, the title of heir to the throne goes to...

A) Your eldest son, Luthas.
B) Your eldest daughter, Segeda.
C) Your youngest son, Yoe.
D) Your youngest daughter, Aife.
E) Your mother, Queen Mother Wilhemina.
F) Your aunt, Cylia.
G) Your aunt, Queen Mother Ciri of Helliste.
H) Your cousin, King Brynwald of Helliste, son of Ciri.
I) Your cousin, Astrid of Helliste, daughter of Ciri.
J) Your cousin, Brynwalda of Helliste, daughter of Ciri.
K) Your cousin, Alfdis of Helliste, daughter of Ciri.
L) Your great-half-uncle, Deathan.
M) Your half-uncle, Duach, son of Deathan.
N) Your half-cousin, newborn Bjern, son of Duach.
O) Your half-uncle, Houlandin, son of Deathan.

You thank the Spymaster and quickly meet up with the messenger you've sent.

He gives you the letter of reply, which you skim through.

The court of Ciri and Brynwald rejected your appointment! Astrid, whilst adult and capable of making her own choice, has been bethroted to one of the younger sons of High King of Albion, and her new home is in the north, not the south. As such, she cannot be future Empress of Methiant.

Curiously, they don't seem to have provided an alternative. Maybe they don't want to join the mighty Methiantese domain by marriage?

Anyways, you have decisions to make!

A) Yep, time to call in the war council and talk about inevitable war with Damdamia.
B) Indeed, time to call in the court and make a new appointment of Methiantese heir.

You decide to meet with Spymaster first. He takes you away from sight, to a corner of the corridor.

"Sire, a Republican army has entered Rucus. They've being led by some Rucusian riders through less traveled roads, towards border with Eval and Lametania."

"How large?"

"Four thousand strong, mostly cavalry. Agents deeper south report that infantry and supply caravans are amassed just south of Rucusian border, exact numbers unknown but probably exceeding six thousand at the time of report. Fireblood machinery has also been spotted, from smaller guns to shatter infantry ranks, to large siege weapons. Damdamian banner was spotted amongst the troops, along with Damedian holy flag. Some of the cavalry bore crests of wheat oars, emblem of Spania."

"When did your agents spot the army movements?"

"Five days ago, the report was delivered with haste by fastest of horse riders." You furrow your brow.

So that would be it. Damdamian Republic, no doubt answering Damedian call for crusade against Methiant, is moving through Rucusian territory, possibly having secured passage through their lands.

You decide to...

A) Call the war council immediately.
B) Meet with the returned courier first.

You send a letter to Helliste in which you declare appointage of Alfdis Astrid of Helliste as the heiress to the throne of Methiant.

1217 AD, Midsummer

Guards report that a rather uneasy-looking courier has returned from Helliste with reply to your appointment of Alfdis Astrid.

Just as you're to meet with him, you bump into Spymaster, who doesn't look particularily cool himself at the moment.

"M'liege, I bring an urgent report about the southlands. We must talk about it."

A) "Sorry, after I read the reply from aunt Ciri's court."
B) "Right away, tell me what the report is about."

So apparently the current Average Best Bay12 Pizza would be:

Ham, Mozzarella, Bacon and Pineapple.

That's... I mean, I'm ordering pizza tomorrow evening, so I might as well try this mix.

How many dynasties have ruled since the start of recorded Luathbasian history?

Which of the ancient Luathbasian dynasties was the last to use magic?

How many gods are in the Pantheon?

How is the Pantheonist leadership structured?

How old is the old capital of Luathbas?

Unfortunately between Tygwand dynasty of the 500-600s, and Houlandines of 800s, there weren't many that could count as dynasties... the usual schematic for succession would be 'hey evil guy, you're evil and thus dethroned' but when the old good guy would finally die, either his kids did a civil war or an usurper would kick the young heir off the throne, sitting on it until someone came up to say 'hey evil guy...'. The history is filled with usurpers (usually evil) and rebels-made-kings (usually good).

Tygwands. Don't ask which one though, I haven't yet decided on details of that particular piece of mythology ;V

At least 112, since inclusion of Leath, son of Cyl the Great, as God of Diplomacy.

Archpriest is elected for life from the council of High Priests (several hundred at this point), who themselves rule over a parish comprising of a city and surrounding villages/towns. Akin to our world's Pope, Archpriest is the authority on doctrine, course and politics of the Pantheonist cult. Priests control individual temples, where Acolytes learn and serve, with hopes of advancing further up the ladder given enough time.

You mean the City of Luathbas? It existed at least since the late 300s, when the Palace of Luathbas King was the size of a mead hall. Considering that both the palace and the surrounding town must've existed few decades at least, it's safe to assume the City of Luathbas was founded no later than around 300 AD.
