041: A High Turnover Rate Up There

C would probably be the wisdom trait option

Yes.

Also wao who dis OwO? Random new old forumgoers still joining this game, y'all cray cray.

You ask her to regale you with a tale of how the oracle has predicted the coming of 'dire times'.

"The Oracle saw it in the dimness of the stars and strength of the wind, the patterns of fallen leaves and the rumblings of falling mountain rocks, that is all I can say." Your wrap yourself a bit tighter in the furs. Damn weather is getting colder nowadays, you have to agree, especially this late in the night.

A) "Lunatic ramblings do not interest me. Shoo!"
B) "Let me tell you why it is important to explain further..."
C) -
D) "Well, oracles have their ways I guess. Fine, you can take the money."

5539
You wrap yourself in some furs and tell the guards to let her into the audience room.

Where you get there, you find that it was inadequately heated; the floor is terribly cold and you can feel a draft from somewhere. You yell at the servants to bring fuel for the braziers and to close the doors.

The young woman enters the audience room through slightly open door, the guards staring at her attentively, their hands on their swords. At the edge of your eyesight, you can spot the dark-cloaked Shadowranks hiding in the shadows and behind pillars, ready to step into action.

The pilgrim girl steps forward toward your throne, and you can see that her hands are pure white, perhaps from cold, and that her leather shoes are in disrepair, her traveling robe threadbare in places.

"Greetings, Emperor Houlandin. I am sorry for this late hour, but there's an important matter to discuss."

"What would it be?"

"I come from a Pantheonist convent, far away, and our local oracle has determined that this recent chill and snowfall are heralds of dire times and even direr wintery creatures to come. Please, allow me to take some funds to fund a shrine for Isogdod, Goddess of Winter, in the mountains above our convent and donate lavishly upon Isogdod's new altar. Our oracle is sure that this will cause the weather to grow milder."

You decide to...

A) Regale you with tales about how exactly the oracle has predicted the coming of 'dire times', for you love a good story.
B) Dismiss her as you're not Pantheonists' personal piggy bank.
C) Agree and have the Treasurer dispense some money for the pilgrim girl (and give her thanks for the warning, too).
D) Ask her whether the Empire needs to placate Isogdod in the first place; Methiant has survived both terrible weather and terrible beasts, and nowadays, its even more able to do so. No gods needed!

You decide that it is not good enough of an offer at all.

The merchant thanks you for your time and leaves with a scowl.

1213 AD, Midwinter

Despite being called target of a crusade, no Damdamian polity seems to be attacking your borders or your merchants so far, nor has there been any violence from the Damedian worshippers living in Methiantese borderlands.

One extremely chilly and snowy winter evening, as you order the maids to bring extra fur to place on top of your bedsheets, the guards arrive.

"Sire, there's an extremely rude young woman who demands that you immediately see her. She looks like a pilgrim..." You furrow your brows.

"This late at the evening? I'm going to sleep."

"Yes, but the woman insisted she must meet with you."

"What's her name?"

"Uhhh... she didn't say."

"Where she's from, then?"

"Uhhh... she didn't say that either."

"Anything what she wanted to talk about?"

"Uhhh-" You wave the hand at the guards to silence them.

A) "I'm not going to rush and meet with every pilgrim girl who's late for an audience. Ask her to come tomorrow."
B) "Dismiss her, she's clearly some beggar. If she gets too annoying, you may arrest her."
C) "Fine then. Tell her that I will meet with her in the audience room."

I would join, but I don’t think I’d play it well.

But if you won't keep trying to play, you will never play well. No work experience without work, etc etc.

Spoiler: To Future Self of 2019 (click to show/hide)

We did, old self. We diiiiiiid :)

Reserved.
This is for people who made resolutions at the start of 2018 to see if they managed to do those things. I imagine a 2019 will pop up later this month.

Will make one after Christmas, usually it stays till New Year when Toady's asked to hide it.

Hey @TankKit (and others?) what do you think about letting the Emperor dispense titles? When an Emperor is (re)elected, they can bestow titles on Electors, either Players (to reward them) or NPCs (to keep bonuses from Players).

Arch-Chamberlain: This Elector does not have to disband their excess Armies in Winter Phase.
Arch-Marshal: This Elector's Armies gain +1 to their combat rolls.
Arch-Bannerbearer: This Elector is moved to the first position of the Player movement order.

Basically the Emperor would be dispensing a part of their power (or reverse of it, for Arch-Bannerbearer) to their favorites ;v

EDIT: THough that might also include Electoral shifts/replacements.
