Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Our first explorer is Sir Rooke. Commandeering a three-ship carracak squadron - Providence, Assurance and Destiny - he will first sail to and resupply at Iceland, owned by Swedish King.
From there, they will traverse the unknown seas to the west, seeking Greenland, west of which, Vinland is rumored to be located.

Wasn't that hard! Sir Rooke reports that Greenland was exactly when the scandinavian peoples said it would be. West of it should be another landmass.
Meanwhile, some brave adventurers have already been sent to colonize Greenlander coasts; in the future, they could serve as supply ports for those that will follow Sir Rooke in his exploits.

Vinland exists! It truly exists!
Sir Rooke reports that the forest-covered coasts of large landmass were spotted by his sailors. He has been recalled to Greenland colonies for repairs.
Speaking of the colonies; the local Inuit population has been partially integrated into Eiriksfjord colony, raising its numbers above 300.
Fish is their main export now, and its suspected the same will be with Vestbygden. Emperor Edward decided to focus national institutions on development of these two colonies.

Aaaand the Emperor dies few weeks later. Well shite!
Some start to believe that the curse - Curse of Scots - is set to kill every British monarch shortly after their ascension.
Whether true or not, it is evident our rulers have trouble staying alive...

Those natives! They've killed few dozen of hard-working colonists in Eiriksfjord.
That is only a temporary setback; with national focus on Greenland, almost 80 people per year settle there.
(A month later we learn that Vestbygden will be producing Naval Supplies).

Rest in peace, Sir Frederick Rooke! He served us well and brought us knowledge of the 'New World' as it is called.
His fleet will be commanded by the next explorer we get, but currently we have no colonists willing to steer the 1st Fleet.

As the 1st Fleet is undergoing repairs at Greenland and the court is sifting through possible captains to lead it, a new problem has arisen.
Smugglers, pirates and other unsavory folk is preying on ships north of Ireland, no doubt wanting to get some profits from colonial trade.
Ireland Patrol has been created to deal with them; and to prevent such vultures from appearing westwards, two more carracks were delegated as Greenland Patrol.

Sir Braddock is more of a fighter than explorer, but he will have to do. After he will scout the frozen waters north of Vinland, he will then travel southwards.
There has been some talk amongst Italians and Spaniards that this 'new world' is actually India, and its in interests of the crown to get there first.

A great bay, mostly surrounded by frozen coasts, has been discovered by Sir Braddock.

Accursed French noblemen have risen against the British Crown!
Royal Army will be carried over to deal with them.

Just as the Gascogne revolt is crushed, Sir Braddock sends news about the southern coasts being discovered (no Indians found yet).
Of particular interest is the rich land he calls 'Manhattan'. In the future, it will be the site of strong, rich British colony.
