You appoint your sister Aina as the next Empress, unless circumstances change. Courtiers nod and whisper at each other, content with your choice.

1211 AD, Summer

Your wedding to the beautiful, golden-haired Mirinda, is a time for festivities. She has a pleasant voice, and great assets, and doesn't seem to be anything else but what her father advertised.

Next morning however, she is a little pouty and complains that as an Emperor you should last much longer in the bed. As you talk about it, it turns out she heard tales about your family's bedchamber skills (especially your father's) and hoped that you would be equally wild and enthusiastic. But do not fret! She also heard that palatial library has lots of books she can acquaint you with.

Few days later, you receive news from the Army - it smashed the bronze colossus apart with Fireblood barrages! Unfortunately hundreds if not thousands have died because the metalman's fireballs had unfortunate distinction of landing exactly at Fireblood stockpiles or nearby, setting off fires and explosions that consumed more soldiers than the colossus' direct fire or stomping itself.

Still, once the colossus broke apart, its remains became huge, cold chunks of bronze. Sold for scrap or melted, the alloy will bring some profits to the Treasury.

Terrible storms and hail seem intent on destroying crops in and south of the capital city, but the damage proves light; the glow of the Scepter of Weather confirming that it is still working fine.

Glassware sold to Ysirene brought small profits; the t'chai leaves, sold in big quantities, brought more money and helped ease minds of peoples.

Interesting news come from Parsian provinces; it seems that tribals and goattenders from the mountains are leaving their ancestral homes in whole families, drawn to the wealth of the Methiant, eager to settle in nearby cities instead of leaving in their tiny, remote hamlets. This trend isn't restricted to them; Waterless nomads, homeless and vagabonds from neighbouring countries are moving through the borders too, enticed by wealth and stability of Methiant, too!

As you're attending a meeting with your courtiers, suddenly a man crashed through the window, apparently having swung in on a rope! He doesn't get far because Shadowranks shoot his right knee through with a crossbow bolt. Your men probably have noticed him few seconds prior to his 'entrance'.

They quickly seize the wounded youth, who can't be older than you by a year.

"Who dares interrupt our meeting in such a way?"

"I am Ranulf! I am son of Emperor Yoe IV! My mother was cast away by your father after my conception and birth, and instead you unlawfully occupy the throne of Methiant! I demand vengeance! I demand duel to death!" You look at the pitiful state of his legs; neither he is running anywhere soon, nor would he be a difficult combatant.

You decide to...

A) Grant him his death wish and unsheathe the Blade of Puncturing!
B) Politely remind the Shadowranks where the royal dungeon is located.

You decide to send out the mighty Army of the Empire to smash apart the metal giant.

Few days later, the council gathers and you need to issue a proclamation - that of your heir and successor to the throne of Methiant-Cydwyl if you were to keel over and die, just in case.

Whilst there's no majority for one candidate or the other, you do notice that most of voices seem to be calling for appointment of your older sister, Aina, as your heir.

Ultimately, the position of Imperial heir goes to...

A) Your older sister, Aina.
B) Your aunt, Cylia, daughter of Cyl II.
C) Your aunt, Ciri, daughter of Cyl II.
D) Your mother, Wihemina.
E) Your cousin, Brynwald, son of aunt Ciri and King Sigurd of Helliste.
F) Your cousin, Astrid, daughter of aunt Ciri and King Sigurd of Helliste.
G) Your cousin, Brynwalda, daughter of aunt Ciri and King Sigurd of Helliste.
H) Your cousin, Alfdis, daughter of aunt Ciri and King Sigurd of Helliste.
I) Eiri, daughter of Yoe III, Emperor of Methiant.
J) Hein, son of Yoe III, Emperor of Methiant.
K) Deathan, son of Yoe III, Emperor of Methiant.
L) Feir, King of Eldrican, and son of Hein and Helga of Helliste.
M) Jacor, son of Hein and Helga of Helliste.
N) Rubert, son of Hein and Helga of Helliste.
O) Teodor, son of Feir, King of Eldrican, and Sigurda of Helliste.
P) Ruberta, daughter of Feir, King of Eldrican, and Sigurda of Helliste.
Q) Rolland, son of Feir, King of Eldrican, and Sigurda of Helliste.
R) Sigurd, son of Jacor, and Helga of Helliste.
S) Stjelf, son of Jacor, and Helga of Helliste.
T) Irval, son of Jacor, and Helga of Helliste.
U) Gwynna, daughter of Jacor, and Helga of Helliste.

You decide that, because the Treasury is doing alright, you can spare some money for the Pantheonists. You receive many thanks from their high clergy few days later.

1211 AD, Late Spring

"A colossus!?" You ask in bewilderment as the courtiers gasp and murmur. The young peasant who brought the message from the new settlements at the foot of Northern Mountains is kneeling before you.

"All people in our village swear on their lives, m'lord! It's a tall, huge man, made out of bronze or some other metal. It shoots balls of fire! It stomps things! It came from direction of the Northern Mountains one day, and has been wrecking havoc since then. Our militia fled after shooting at it with them tubes and other things failed to do more than a scratch!"

A) "Wizard! A Wizard is needed to deal with this creature, we must find one at once!"
B) "Now, you shall witness the power of the fully armed and operational Imperial Army!"
C) "Do not be afraid! The bronze colossus will finish its stomping, and go away. Easy!"
D) "I'm plenty there's enough level 30+ adventurers to deal with it, let's hire some."

6094
You agree to the mawwiage of the local noblegirl, which will take place on Summer.

1211 AD, Mid-Spring

The Pantheonist pilgrims have located a very important shrine; long-thought lost and forgotten, the shrine of the Forest was rediscovered deep in the Luathbasian Forest, in an area that, once a beautiful glade, is now a swamp overgrown with willows. The temple, once dedicated to gods of forests, nature and such, is in ruined and decrepit state, its usual residences long gone and only moss and foliage making its home amongst the tall stones and foundations.

Pantheonists would like to see it renovated, and are asking for a small donation to the altars so they can proceed with the task.

A) We're rich, and I'm generous ruler. They will have the money.
B) Pantheonist ruins, Pantheonist problems.

The dwarves finally did it, added that to the ascension summary ;v

Maybe the illness is going away?

When you wake up, you notice that the room is dark. You do not see any sunlight around the curtains, and the lit candles beside your bed make you realize that it is possibly past midnight. Someone seated near you stirs, probably noticing that you have awoken.

You grab their arm and an old man, looking like the Advisor himself, leans to your face.

"How's the Empire?" You ask, and the man smiles.

"It is doing fairy well, Emperor."

"Good, very good... and Prince Cidric, is he well?"

"Prince Cidric is doing well and is of good health, Emperor."

"I see, that's good... and the council? Are the aristocrats not arguing for once?"

"Emperor, the noblemen are working hard to keep the Empire safe and well."

"That's reassuring, yes..."

"Emperor, you must rest."

"Of course, of course."

So you fall back into the comfyness of sleep - sleep that you do not wake up from again.

You are Cidric, son of Yoe IV, the late Emperor of Methiant!

Since the unfortunate passing of your grandfather, Cyl II, during a trip to attend wedding of your aunt Ciri to Prince (currently King) Sigurd of Helliste, the Empire has been run by regency council comprised of Methiantese and Cydwyllian noblemen.

The other branch of the family, in Eldrican, is doing fairly well. A terrible fire of Eldrican palace at the turn of the century has killed Queen Irvalina and two youngest of Hein's children, also rendering Hein's face horribly disfigured. By 1205, he has decided to abdicate in favor of Prince Feir, whose charisma and speech skills helped him unite Eldrican peoples under his rule, and he enjoys popularity just as much as Eldrican Kingdom enjoys economical prosperity, having found new sources of Fireblood ingredients in the nomad plains in the northwest; the mines are so productive that there's enough to supply Eldrican forces as well as sell excess minerals to Rucusians.

Speaking of Kingdom of Rucus, it has established a military alliance with Eldricans, and is bound to absorb Lametania into its territory. King Arrus I of Rucus is brother of childless - and most possibly, impotent - King Ivos I of Lametania. The latter has decided, just half a year ago, to issue a proclamation that upon his death, his brother Arrus will inherit the Lametanian throne. This is just a safeguard, for both monarchs are only in their mid-twenties, and thus, plenty of time for things (and potential kids) to happen.

Helliste and Albionese has turned away from the inner parts of the continent, going as far as stopping the selling of furs to Methiant, and are now unprecedented wealth and prosperity thanks to selling of silver and steel to Chia, which is in return supplying them with clayware and fabrics. Under rulership of King Sigurd, a wise man and learned astrologer, the Helliste managed to convince even the Rosamanas, led by Queen Rostana I, to allow westerners into their borders for trade and settlement, although traffic, as it is, is rather meager. Albionese gave up their raiding traditions and has begun commerce with the islands of Dvar peoples in the north, as well as exploring and colonizing the northwestern Straight Coast and the Frozen Sea, and the ice-lands north of them, apparently maintaining contact with part-elven 'Kingdom of Sylevessef', and few of their captains claiming they've managed to reach Prawlantese shores by sea all the way from harbors of Helliste.

As for Empire of Cydwyl-Methiant, well... where do we begin with all the bad news?

Firstly, the ancient and reliable silver mines of Methiant finally ran out of the precious ore early in 1201, it's last load of ore given to Dwarves in exchange for cleaning of Blade of Puncturing, which refused any treatment by Methiantese alchemists. Then, an ancient beast, sleeping under the rock of gemstone mines of Methiant, called Tyllytech the Rancid Deathsap, a mouthless screaming pigeon of enormous size (beware its venomous spit!), woke up and destroyed the mines in 1204, rampaging in the local area for half a year (Wizards didn't show up again) until a group of adventurers hired by the regency council killed the oversized chicken, as the Army was busy in Parsia.

The instability in Parsia has endured on for almost a decade; riots against Methiantese authority or against encroachment of Pantheonist religion has led to numerous riots, culminating in Parsian Revolt of years 1204-1206 AD. The Army had to intervene against the local population, and whilst effective, it had rather disasterous effect on local population and settlements; many minor villages were wiped from the map and several important cities, including the old capital of Karasau, lost all of their prestige, wealth and power.

In the power vacuum of that risen from Eleven Graces waning influence and resistance to Pantheonist teachings, Alldivinism, of all things, has taken firm roots, its philosophical principles and regional origin helping it spread amongst Parsians. All but easternmost provinces have Alldivine majority in them, with Graces and Pantheon being minority faiths, the native religion of Parsians maintaining its strength and numbers in the aforementioned lands in the east. However, elsewhere in the Empire, the Pantheonism stands strong; the passing of Advancement of Religion Act in 1199 AD by the Regency Council assured that this faith will keep up with changing times and will be better suited to adress arising instability, heresies and new doctrines.

While trade with Sim Empire continues, the treaty for spices was cancelled, as the aromatic roots and powders became in short supply, and once again Mahjar Sim decided to prioritize someone else over Methiant. T'chai leaves still arrive in great quantities however, and the Treasury still obtains hefty profits from proxy-sale of this luxury resource. The elderly emperor is currently busy personally quelling some instability in the far east of his Empire, and if anything bad happens, his adult son, Mahjar Tum Brah, is ready to replace him.

The worst blow to Imperial integrity was the political turmoil that arrived shortly after Cyl II's death. Without his charismatic persona and mediatization, conflicts arose between powerless Methiantese noblemen, the plutocratic councilmembers, and the priviledged Cydwyllian aristocracy. Corruption scandals of recent years eroded Imperial authority and set the two nobility groups apart, culminating in Aristocratic Schism; the Cydwyllians, in return for not tearing the country apart in two, were given autonomous duchies in the north, lodged between important locations, colonies and lands still under direct rule of the Crown. While you're still their ruler and wield the respective ducal titles, the noblemen families running them enjoy autonomy and traditional priviledges of Cydwyllian aristocracy. These duchies are: Ionith and Donuth shortways north(east/west) from capital of Methe, then distant Duchy of Dahnia in the north, bordering Helliste, as well as newly-created Clochtoir Duchy in far east, encompassing flatlands and rocky plateaus north and northeast from land of Tiftit Hurthlings, a vast but still sparsely populated area.

Speaking of Hurthlings, a strange variation of the usual plague sprung up in 1207 and ravaged their valley for three years. Whilst humans were also susceptible and also fell victim to the sickness, the little ones made as much as 90% of casualties. According to various estimates, somewhere between ten to twenty thousand Hurthlings remain in Methiant. Living in small agricultural communities, they tend to themselves and their families, no longer really adding to the wineyards and other farmlands there. Worthy mentioning is the Springwine; its delicate fruity flavor has found many connoiseurs in Damdamian Republic, and Methiantese Treasury earns nice profits from sending hundreds of barrels yearly to the Damdamian republicans.

Fortunately, the last two years were rather kind for the Empire; the Treasury is growing steadily, conflicts and catastrophes avoided the lands, and its people feel happy and respect the government. Furthermore, the Cartographers of Methiant ventured southeast and northeast, bringing some knowledge about the lands of both Simians and Rosamanas, in 1197 and 1207 AD, respectively.

So, troubled Prince, this is the situation of the Empire! And what do we have to say about you?

Whilst no genius like your father, you do have an inherent aptitude for combat, and your martial prowess impressed even the most demanding of your tutors. The court believes that if any threat arises, the Army under your leadership will have no problems eradicating it.

You ponder about a regnal name for a moment.

You're not a great administrator or talker like the Cyls, and hedonistic scandals of your father, Yoe IV, still linger in the memories of your people. Looking up your family tree to find a good name, you notice another martial man, who, despite his short reign, was respected and liked by both the court and the people.

Therefore you settle on the name of Houlandin!

Long live Emperor Houlandin III of Methiant-Cydwyl, King of Felonsein, Ceodwell and Parsia, Prince of Eval, Duke of Dahnia, Donuth, Ionith and Clochtoir, Sovereign of Tiftit!

Here comes the Advisor. The old man is carrying in his ancient hands the Scrolls of Kingdom Status, just as equally ancient.

Happiness: 7
Population: 7
Economy: 7
Army: 9
Imp.Authority: +1

Those are some nice numbers, although you don't understand much from what the Advisor is babbling about them. Moving on!

1211 AD, Spring

Aren't you some most-sought-after boy cake, huh?

Few days into ascension and already a marriage proposal arrives by letter! One of Cydwyllian noble families from Clochtoir, led by Ówyn Astleinn, is offering the hand of his only daughter, Mirinda, for marriage. He claims that she is of exact same age as you, and possesses beautiful body and equally pretty singing voice.

A) I will pass, thanks.
B) H'okay, send her over!

6097
You order it handed over to the royal alchemists. Amongst the all powders, liquids and oils they have, there should be something that will restore the Blade of Puncturing to its earlier shine.

Next morning you embark to Helliste.

1196 AD, One Day Later

While the healers are fighting the fever the best they can, and you feel relatively OK, they forbid you from continuing the journey.

A while later, your daughter Ciri comes in, wrapped in a fur cloak.

"Father, you are ill, and my husband awaits me. I would not want to force anything, but I have obligations to fulfill and would like to go to Helliste."

A) "Fine then, go and please give Prince Sigurd my regards."
B) "My illness is a sign! This marriage is cursed, we're going home!"
C) "I'm sure they will understand if we delay our trip for few days more."

6098
You order the Army to be sent to Parsia to remove the rioters and restore order in Amandarinka.

FInally, soldiers from Orcworld Fortress arrive, with a report, and a bundle in their hands.

"Greetings, Emperor! Your soldiers have come here to personally inform you that the carcass of Kotekbacek has been segmented, removed from the Fortress and burnt far away for the smell its corpse was producing was most foul. Here we have Blade of Puncturing, which was pulled from the corpse."

They unwrap the bundle, showing you the Blade; its handle dark brown and disgusting, and its blade black and looking as if burnt. Courtiers murmur, for such an artifact should've been indestructible and stainless forever.

"The metal itself smells foul, and the blade is coated in dried blood of Kotekbacek or some other bodily fluid of the beast. We've tried hot water, icy water, soapy water and even royal water that the Fortress' alchemist had, but nothing has worked so far."

A) "The blade has been cursed by the dead monster! Cast it away!"
B) "The dwarves made it, the dwarves probably can restore it. Send for them at once!"
C) "Give it to our imperial alchemists, they have all ingredients in the world, they will find a way to clean it."

6099
You decide to get report on Parsian uprising first.

Quote

Unfortunately, the letter had no effect on the Parsian populace it seems! The peasants remain upset, and rioting and looting flares up every few days as an incident or other misunderstanding goes awry.

A) Let the peasants riot and burn if they want, it's their hometown after all!
B) Alright, time to send the Army, bonk few heads in and restore order!

6100
You say that you will let Ciri go, and attend the ceremony personally. The diplomat replies that he will wait for you to pack your royal robes.

Meanwhile, you still have stuff to do.

A) Fortress peeps nao.
B) Pls gib Parsia report.

6101
No option to attend the Helliste wedding in person? Or does that choice come later if we pick A?

Hurr durr derp twerp fixed '<.

6102
The dignitary from Helliste arrives.

"Greetings, Emperor Cyl! I'm here to announce that Prince Sigurd, heir to the throne of Helliste, has decided that he is ready to take a wife into his house; therefore I'm here to take princess Ciri, per the old agreement, and bring him to her for customary Helliste wedding feast, for which any of her family is invited to."

You decide to...

A) Let the diplomat take Ciri and her servants and guards to Helliste, bidding her good life at Sigurd's side.
B) Request that the wedding take place in Methiant-Cydwyl, and with adherence to proper Pantheonist rituals.
C) Tell him that you've changed your mind and offer Prince Sigurd someone else as a bride.
D) Refuse to hand over Ciri, for you consider the agreement null and void!
E) Let Ciri go and attend the wedding ceremony in person!

6103
CHA go! I wonder if our negotiation artifact gives us even more bonuses here?

No, because letters are indirect ;v

You send a letter to the upset people of Parsia, asking them to come to their senses and stop rioting.

1196 AD, Late Winter

Whilst you prepare to receive a report on situation in Parsia, you're informed that some soldiers from Orcworld Fortress has arrived, with the report on the fortress' cleaning and recovery of Sword of Puncturing, but there's also a dignitary from Helliste, asking for audience about wedding of Princess Ciri of Methiant and Prince Sigurd of Methiant Helliste.

What do?

A) Talk dignitary good.
B) Soldier speech first.
C) Report important yes.

You argue with the councilmembers, and ultimately decide that the two aristocratic systems will be kept apart; and that your immediate heir to the throne of Methiant will be Cidric, your grandson.

With that all settled and the council agreeing to your decisions, you receive the Imperial Crown. You decide that the less you mess with heraldric bookkeeping, the better, therefore you use regnal name of Cyl.

Long live Emperor Cyl II of Methiant-Cydwyl, King of Felonsein, Ceodwell, Ionith and Parsia, Prince of Eval, Duke of Dahnia and Sovereign of Tiftit and Donuth!

An rebel force is under way in Parsian city of Amandarinka!

Apparently, a cleric of Eleven Graces, named Ajur, has inflamed the crowd during a time when Pantheonist priests had a theological discussion with the Graceists at a marketplace, arguing about validity of Eleven Graces and whether they are or are not Pantheon gods and goddesses simply with different names.

The situation in the marketplace quickly got out of hand, and out of the dozen Pantheonist priests only one escaped death. Several Methiantese soldiers on patrol were also killed. An uncertain, but relatively high, number of Methiantese settlers and Parsian citizens have also perished, in subsequent rioting, looting and arsoning.

The governor barricaded himself with the city guard in the city's keep, while those who got out immediately sent the news to the capital.

A) Our Army has a lot of practice training in recent years, doesn't it?
B) Let me send a letter to the peoples of Parsia, asking them to come to their senses.
C) This is simply like a fire, and like all fires, it will burn out on its own.
