You try to interest High King Varsaalath in forming closer ties between Dwarves and Methiantese humans.

Unfortunately, you fail in your endeavour. After some pleasant chit-chat, the High King and his entourage leave.

Few days later the royal family expands once more! Your uncle Deathan's second son, Houlandin, was borne into this world.

1193 AD, Late Winter

You furrow your brows a little bit.

"Designate a heir? Isn't it a little early for that?" The Advisor smiles as the courtiers gathered behind him stare at you expectantly.

"My liege, it is of utmost importance for a ruler to have a heir. And the court, while confident in your bedroom abilities, would rather have your successor set in writing, till of course you get a child of your own, in case any... legal problems should arise."

It seems that your courtiers aren't willing to wait a year.

Who will it be?

A) My older sister, Princess Cylia.
B) My younger sister, Princess Ciri.
C) My father, King Cyl of Cydwyl.
D) My aunt, Odiana of Cydwyl.
E) My cousin, Llewyn, son of late King Erik of Cydwyl.
F) My cousin, Tolin, son of late King Erik of Cydwyl.
G) My cousin, Aron, son of late King Erik of Cydwyl.
H) My distant aunt, Eiri, daughter of Yoe III.
I) My distant uncle, Hein, son of Yoe III.
J) My distant uncle, Deathan, son of Yoe III.
K) My 2nd cousin Feir, son of Hein and Irvalina of Eldrican.
L) My 2nd cousin Jacor, son of Hein and Irvalina of Eldrican.
M) My 2nd cousin Rubert, son of Hein and Irvalina of Eldrican.
N) My 2nd cousin Una, daughter of Hein and Irvalina of Eldrican.
O) My 2nd cousin Duach, son of Deathan and Aurelia of Damdamia.
P) My 2nd cousin Houlandin, son of Deathan and Aurelia of Damdamia.
Q) My 2nd cousin once removed, Sigurd, son of Jacor and Helga of Helliste.
R) My grandmother, Eirika, wife of late King Cidric of Cydwyl.

welp I am a idiot last question for the day will we get a chance to purchase the service of the imperial map makers again?.

...

I don't understand your question again '<.

If you mean when the map's getting updated, it's end of the year (as always now that Cartographers are active).

If you mean when the Cartographers will ask for funds for another expedition, then I dunno. In few years I think.

why do I have the feeling this somehow ends with the two kings in bed

* Haspen writes that down too.

Now for my next question does trade improve relations between countries?.

It's more like a good preventer of wars; people who earn money from trade won't like to have this sudden income gone because of a border incident or diplomatic scandal or such ;v

You accept the counter-offer and the Dwarven High King claps his hands, smiling widely.

The contract is written down in two copies of course, one of the dwarves and one for your Empire. The High King doesn't seem to be here to do much else, what do you do?

A) Pry for information about the Doombox experiments that caused its catastrophic failure in Ankurvat.
B) Inquire about some trade deals with the dwarves of the West.
C) Bid him farewell and go for a snack.
D) Offer a joint war against the vile xenophobic Damdamians.
E) Ask about some closer cooperation between Methiant and Dwarves that doesn't involve fighting or trading.

You guys are cruel :'C

I will be honest, I've lost track of that long ago and decided that '2 Econ' is what they make.

How much they were making once or should be actually making? No idea :P

You demand lands of Ankurvat as compensation.

Varsaalath Katinarag laughs.

"Dear boy, you think I will turn over the precious lands of my people for this? No, you've gone too far. I will make a counter-offer; money equivalent of your silver mines' output in span of a year. Yes, that is what I would call a fair price."

A) "Can we talk this over? I'm sure we can think of a better deal."
B) "That is a fair price, indeed."
C) "That amount of money is simply unsatisfactory, I want more."
D) "Pshaw! This has been waste of time!"

You ask about troop movements and relocation of Doombox. The High King of Dwarves hums for a moment, rubbing his braided beard thoughtfully.

"The Doombox was relocated for safety reasons; last thing my runesmiths wanted to see was for Doombox's remains fall into hands of some adventurers, looters or even worse. As for military build-up, well - your predecessors had a tradition of both stubborness and hair-trigger temper sometimes, so it was more of a precaution. I assure you, if we are successful in these negotiations, our soldiers will disperse."

"Let's talk business, now. It is what I came here for, all the way from Metafenith!"

A) "Hard cash will do nicely to repay for damages done during this disaster."
B) "Valuable lands of Ankurvat is what I deem a fair price."
C) "A nice artifact will be more than enough to repay for the toxic spill."

6298
You lead the High King of Dwarves to a side chamber that is usually used as a small dining hall for your courtiers. The eight purple dwarves and a dozen of your Shadowranks follow in. The guards of both sides look at each other with suspicion, but what you could do? It's their job to eye strangers suspiciously.

Varsaalath Katinarag rather unceremoniously pulls up two chairs to sit down at, unshamed by his weight apparently. He clasps his hands and smiles.

"Well, here we are to negotiate, and negotiate I want."

"For what?"

"For compensation for damages my subjects have done to you. Since the death of my beloved cousin, Damacid, I've decided to mimick his policies and open our people towards your people. After all, we both love metals and commerce - a natural trading partners we are! Souring our relationship will bring neither of us profits, yes."

You decide to...

A) Ask for an artifact as a payment for the toxic smoke of Ankurvat.
B) Ask for the lands of Ankurvat as a payment for its disasterous mists.
C) Ask for a ton of money to compensate your people for Ankurvat Disaster.
D) Inquire about the troops' movement and relocation of Doombox, as written in Spymaster's report.
F) Demand an explanation about the Doombox, its failure, and experiments that caused it.

6299
You decide to consult with the Spymaster, but the Spymaster presents you a scroll instead of talking.

In the scroll, there's information on the remains of Doombox; it has been most definitely moved to Zonalath in Rainbow Lizard Mountains. Also, people living around the citadels of Zasitost and Zonalath have given up information that dwarves have began massing troops inside the citadels for last two months.

With this information, you decide to...

A) Finally begin negotiations with the High King in a secluded area.
B) Demand he explains the things written in this report!
C) Offer to negotiate in the audience room, before your loyal courtiers.
D) Turn down the offer to negotiate, until the dwarves pay for damages done to Methiant.

You agree to marry this Wihemina of Cydwyl.

Later that day - after your father leaves - you meet with Aethlan once more. He has heard the news and understands that he needs to be dismissed. He asks but for one kiss to end your relationship.

You restrain yourself from pulling him into a room. This must end, and while your heart aches, and Aethlan looks like beaten puppy, you both know this is for good of Methiant.

1193 AD, Winter

Report from the Treasury; the currency replacement has caused the relative wealth of your coffers to diminish as to match the prices of the markets and goods. Time will tell if this will stop the inflation.

Economy rating lowered by 2.

You receive a letter from your father; Wihemina, her parents, and your dad will arrive in Spring to witness your marriage and spend some time around you (no doubt to keep an eye on you).

Meanwhile, silver and gold land in the Treasury; the gemstones are sent north with the caravan that takes their share of profits from the trade.

The furs sold poorly amongst your noblemen, but profits are profits and you can't dismiss them.

1193 AD, Midwinter

A delegation of dwarves, with bald heads and colorful robes, have arrived, but led by no one else than Varsaalath Katinarag, High King of Dwarves!

King Katinarag is dressed in lengthy yellow robe, and his square hat is adorned with golden chains that fall upon his bearded cheeks, the beard itself reaching his knees and braided using a golden rope; he would be quite respectful looking if not for the fact that, even for dwarven royalty standards, he is very obese. The High King of Dwarves is guarded by eight dwarves clad in purple and with armor made of alloy that shines all the time, even if no light's falling on the metal.

While the High King looks rather jovial fellow, his diplomats are looking rather unsure of themselves, and the purple-clad guards are staring at you as if readying themselves to behead you at moment's notice.

"Young Emperor Yoe IV of the human Empire of Methiant. What a pleasure to visit you, even if the reason for my personal leaving of Metafenith isn't very much pleasing." He clasps his hands and steps forward before your throne.

"There has been accident in one of my subjects' halls, and of which results have spilled, unfortunately, upon the fertile lands of your domain. As we're both aware of the accident I'm speaking about, can we begin our negotiations outside of public eye - of course, sufficiently protected by our respective guards?"

In the corner of your eye, you see the figure of Spymaster hiding behind one of the pillars in the corner of throne hall.

A) "Diplomacy is about trust and honest deals, not scheming in side chambers. We will negotiate here."
B) "I will talk to you after your people will pay for the grief and death they caused my subjects, not before!"
C) "That sounds good for me. Let's go."
D) "Please wait a moment, I need to speak with my advisor there." (Get the Spymaster here!)
