Because you guys aren't mining copper or iron, armor is made of leather and bone while weapons are crafted from wood and/or stone.

This is a joke in case you didn't notice :P

You ask them about procurement of Dwarven Steel this way.

"No." Their leader responds flatly. "You have scoffed at our metal once, and you will not get a second chance."

A) Bribe them with even more money for the steel.
B) Fine, how about... (pick one of A, C or E from previous post if you vote this).
C) Then begone, we shall have no deals!

You decide to invite dwarves for talks.

1169 AD, Midsummer

You receive news that your half-aunt, Valhelma, has passed away in her sleep at age 71.

The dwarves arrive at your palace per your summon. They're fat, happy, clean-bearded dwarves wearing many expensive fabrics dyed with brilliant colors. They bow their collective heads to you.

"We've heard your summon, human emperor, and so we come to aid you with your finances. We understand that the problem you have is overabundance of coinage. One offer we have to amend this problem is that we will trade your bullion for what we believe will be of greater use for you - coal, sulphur and cinnabar. These are mined at Ankurvat in rather large quantities, and while we're already selling part of it, we still have a surplus we would be willing to send to Methiant."

"The other is setting up our Vaults in your empire."

He goes on to explain that Vaults are places where dwarves store money of theirs and their clients. Their clients safely deposit their savings in a Vault, and are given a written document, entitling them to recovery of the money at any other vault, even on the other side of the continent. They also offer loans with efficient methods of liquidation, as well as offer services of melting old bullion and striking new coins.

Of course, the dwarves take a small cut from the all these operations. With tens of thousands of clients, even few coins per operation earn massive profits over the span of a year. They've been working with distant Calvendocians and Prawlantese for over a century, and the dwarves attest that everyone is happy in this relationship.

"Or, if it's a more short-term solution you seek, we can send for our runemasters to craft you an artifact in exchange for this year's quota of silver and gold bullion produced by Methiantese mines."

A) My excess gold and silver for Fireblood components? We have a deal!
B) Your brethren mention dwarven steel once. I want that in exchange for our precious metals!
C) These 'Vaults' sound as efficient as they're intriguing. This is the solution we need!
D) Your solutions mean you get my money and I get little in return. No I say!
E) An artifact to burn our excess money with sounds good. Send for the runemasters!

Initially you would be inviting them to talk about this and how they can help. Anything more concrete can come only from those talks.

7102
You send spies to locate and bring Saenn to your court. This man's escapades are getting ridinkulus.

1169 AD, Summer

The Treasurer, the trade advisors and mine administrators have gathered to bring important and rather unsettling news. Currently, a significant part of Treasury is filled by pure silver and gold bullion, minted directly into coins. Over the years, the amount of bullion produced and thus coins minted increased significantly, and this caused the worth of the coin itself to be devalued. The findings of recently created Trade Commission helped cement the growing suspicion; Methiantese silver and gold coins are steadily losing on their value, causing prices to go higher and people's wealth to diminish.

The financiers advise you to take some steps to counter this problem, lest rapid inflation becomes a thing in the Empire.

A) Bah, who cares? We can always mint more coin!
B) We will curb silver and gold production, and thus reduce minting.
C) We will produce crafts out of silver and gold, and sell those on the market or abroad.
D) The dwarves are exceptional bankers according to lore and hearsays, maybe they could help us?

7103
The Treasury will be reduced a bit to sponsor colonies in the far north and northwest.

1169 AD, Mid-Spring

A reply comes from Rolant, King of Ysirene:

He is not interested in your familial disputes and thus is not going to find Saenn for you.

A) Fine then.
B) My soldiers will find him!
C) My spies will find him!

7104
Rapidstrike but actually just normal hack the Guard with iron axe even if this is normal.

You decide to repair and renovate forts and keeps in border regions.

1169 AD, Spring

There's awful lots of migrating to the unclaimed lands in far northwest! Apparently, the fertility of the flatlands there has been underestimated for a while, and people find plenty of water and living space there. A lot of families were given grants and money to start their new, exciting life in the area.

Some of the more adventurous ones want to go much further and seek richesi n the northern mountains, on the other side of Empty Plain. A delegation of noblemen connected to them has just arrived, asking for sponsorship of an expedition to prospect and colonize the mountains up there.

A) That's too far for us, let's stay close.
B) Sure thing. More land, more resources.

Why nobody pointed out that we're in the wrong year? It's 1168!

You demand an apology from the nobleman, and send a letter to Ysirene asking for assistance.

1168 AD, Late Winter

Blub-blub, goes your belly when your wife pokes it.

For whole year, you tried to exercise more to get fit. There was horse-riding, hunting and skirmishing with the soldiers. But you guess the horse-riding could be a bit less leisurely, the hunting not done from horseback, and skirmishing involved more than swinging swords. Still...

"What are you poking, woman? Muscle, not fat!" Bjeda rolls her eyes and returns to her book.

Congratulations! Yoe III gained fat negative trait!

Merchants crossing into Methiant are expressing displeasure with your taxes and establishment of commision. Unhappy merchants lead to unhappy nobles, and so on.

1168 AD, End of the Year

Calm, almost autumnal weather outside provides a nice backdrop for the yearly ritual that is arrival of the Advisor with Scrolls of Kingdom Status.

"My liege! The money! Just like the amount of recruits joining our Army, it is aplenty!"

What will you do?

A) Time to ask the dwarves to commission us a powerful artifact of sorts!
B) Seek the services of a traveling and powerful Sorceress.
C) Send a lavish gift to one of neighbouring countries.
E) Sponsor creation of an bronze-cast statue of yourself!
F) Expand the budget of the Army, so it can maintain even greater numbers.
G) Refurbish old fortresses in the border regions.
H) Donate to the poor and the needy to show off your generosity.

"Although the authority seems a bit low, mayhaps you wish to issue an Edict?"

A) No.
B) Yes.

You order a small scouting party to be sent first.

1169 AD, Midwinter

Saenn has fled to Kingdom of Ysirene! Apparently, the messenger sent to you was a ruse; by the time he returned to the nobleman, your brother was already packed and left with his girlfriend - actually, wife, as they hastily married in an Alldivinist ceremony.

As for the nobleman who was hiding Saenn and likely helped him escape...

A) Dungeon him!
B) Let him go.
C) Demand an explanation and an apology.

As for your escapist brother...

A) Send some adventurers into Ysirene after him.
B) Send a letter to King of Ysirene, asking to help locate your missing relative.
C) Let him go.
D) Send your spies into Ysirene after him.

You send the messenger back with clear demand for Saenn to come before you.

Next is messenger from Orcworld.

"Sire! A new tribe of peoples have arrived at the Fortress. They're birdmen, well, if birdmen had beaks made of flesh and skin with nostrils on the tip. Anyways!"

He gives you a written report from the fortress' commander; the birdmen were very enthusiastic about meeting with Methiantese, if their expressions were any indication. Their chirping language is of course unlike any in Methiant or our world, but they were able to communicate with body language. They gladly exchanged various gold and copper trinkets, as well as decorative feather accessories and some black 'glass' they had embedded in sticks and clubs. The glass is of very good sharpness, and is possibly used by the birdmen for tools and weapons. Furthermore, they were clearly agitated when they were shown some bones and skins of the flying lizards and their snake mistresses.

At the end of the exchange, the birdmen indicated they came from north-northwesternly direction, and, considering they behavior, they seemed to be inviting your soldiers and scholars to come visit.

The commander sent this dispatch to ask whether he should authorize an expedition into the unwelcoming mountains.

A) Nuh-uh, the snake ladies are there somewhere. No expedition.
B) Send a small group of scouts instead.
C) A proper expedition with proper guard detail (and gifts) will do.
