YEAR 500, Spring

Hanamura Clan's Turn

Spoiler: The Rice Ledger (click to show/hide)

7143
Oh man, this is it!

That's why I love y'all so much <3

7144
An asian-themed RTS with 3d models from early 2000s.

I don't remember much, besides the fact that main resource seemed to be rice. Also, you only made peasants; to get military units, you had to get those peasants to train in specific military buildings.

I think it was clan-based, or at least the campaign had various clans in it. The main dude you controlled was the son of the local king or something like that.

7145
R9 and hatchet da door.

7146
You let everyone rest.

By the next morning, you two meet again to negotiate the fate of Parsia.

A) Argue for your initial demands.
B) Negotiate some different, middle ground.
C) Accept Alalkan's counteroffer from yesterday.
D) Announce annexation of Parsia and throw Alalkan into dungeon for wasting so much of your time.

7147
You tell him it won't do.

You two get nowhere. You're both equally stubborn, and won't make concessions; you want more things, Alalkan is not willing to give up more things.

A) To the dungeon with the pesky child, and install Methiantese governor of Parsia at once!
B) We can still find a common ground. A night of rest for everyone should do the trick.

7148
You demand that Parsia is split into two, based on old Kashite-Shahshan divisions, that a Methiantese royal rules one of these parts (you proclaim it would be Saenn), that certain amount of money is sent to Methiant as tribute.

You negotiate for a long time. It's obvious that Alalkan wants to comply, but his loyalty to his uncle's orders is stronger than all your authority and majesty.

"There will be no split. We hold all the ancestral lands of the ancient Parsia that warred against Luathbas, and we will not give them up. You already took the part that has the gold mines that once belonged to you, and before that, to Ceodwells. I'm sure you could be satisfied with that, but my uncle watched men in your family for al ong time and thus he told me that we must make some concessions." He thinks briefly.

"Consider this: We would allow religious tolerance in our nation. Quite a few Alldivinists remain concealed in Parsia, especially after Manipur's ascension. As for governance by a Methiant nobleman, we could appoint such as a Vizier, the right-hand of any Parsian King and governor in matters of law and territories. An respectable position with many priviledges, above which only the archpriest of the Graces and the King himself stand. We would agree to twenty years of truce, may Eleven damn us if we break it, and ten years of tribute to Methiantese coffers. How's that sound, Emperor?"

A) "This won't do!"
B) "This is good."

7149
I hope you have a rock 'n' Rolan day!

This pun hurts my very soul, you know?

Happy Birthday Rolan!

7150
You ask for this Alalkan over to Methiant.

1167 AD, Late Winter

Prince Alalkan is nowhere as scary as his uncles or cousins; he is of short stature, has a pleasant face and his beard is neatly combed, not long and pointy like that of other Parsian royal. However, like all Parsians, there's a tint of confidence and arrogance present in the youth.

On the other hand, he is about Bjern's age.

You drill him for questions.

"Where are Princes Manipur and Dashir?"

"Dashir fled before Manipur's strength, and Manipur fled before your Army, like a duo of covering dogs they are." His voice, while loud and condescending towards his family, is rather calm. "Dashir's supposedly fled to Gubtas or Suravayas or maybe further east to Chupa. Who knows. Manipur fled to the mountains with few of his most loyal supporters early in the year and we haven't heard of him since." Your courtiers murmur as the obvious question rolls onto your tongue.

"So if Manipur fled, why you folk didn't surrender?" Alalkan scoffs a bit.

"You underestimate our honor! We would not surrender till we were beaten, and even then, we awaited the order from King Shapur. He never told us to stop fighting you, so we never did."

Next question.

"Where is Princess Abis and her children?" This question puts Alalkan off; it takes him few moments to even remember who your nieces and sister-in-law are, apparently.

"They're dead by now, mostly. Princess Abis was welcomed back by King Shapur, but noblemen at the court and the shahs in the army weren't very charitable towards her. Her son Alif was slain by your soldiers; her daughters had to abandon the faith of Alldivines and claims in your lands and were married off to some peasants or mayhaps caravan masters. We do not keep track of their fates. As for Abis, she was always torn between Methiant and Parsia, and fell deeper into sadness and loneliness. I believe it was three winters ago when she drank elixir made of redthorn and lionbane, and killed herself. Neither the court nor King Shapur shed any tears." There's some grumbling in your court about this cruel and most dishonorable fate that befell members of Methiant royal family, some almost taking all this quite personally, but they quieten when you raise your hand to bring order.

"What of Gubtas? Manipur won a war against them, I want some details"

"Manipur's soldiers stormed the Palace of Gubta, killed their Emperor and enslaved many of their noble wives and maidens. Manipur demanded money and oliphaunts and other luxuries in return for letting Gubta live as they did before. Their defeat shook their country quite hard, or so we heard. Surely their pride and vanity served them this fate. We took no lands nor imposed any restrictions or further treaties upon them."

All most important questions have been answered.

"You were brought here to negotiate terms of treaty between Methiant and Parsia."

"And I will do so, on behalf of King Shapur, may his name always be blessed. My uncle recognizes that we were beaten, but has ordered me to not give up our faith or our ancestral lands-" Alalkan knocks on his chest with his left fist. "-and I'm going to fulfill his orders. Imprison me in deepest of your dungeons, Emperor Yoe, and I shall still not yield."

You decide to...

A) Begin negotiations with Alalkan of Parsia.
B) Entertain Alalkan's suggestion, throw the brat into the dungeon and send for another, more compliant, envoy!

7151
(We should offer control of the other one to the ruling bloodline of Eval, as reward for their service in this war)

The problem here is that, due to certain parts of recent history, the nobles of Eval stopped bothering with monarchy and instead opted for a republic governed by several noble families. Hence it was 'Evalian representatives' who accepted treaty of vassalage.

7152
Shoot, I haven't noticed the prompt about extra votes for C.

Though it's better this way I guess ;vc

You decide that the Ur-Uk scholar can stay at the fortress if he wants to learn Methiantese culture.

1167 AD, Late Autumn

City of Karasau remains unbroken.

Few days after the report from the east, you receive news from Orcworld fortress; a new delegation of Ur-Uk arrived to pick up Ururang. The scholar in question extensively studied weapons and stonework of Orcworld Fortress, as well as examined foodstuffs and plants and minerals stored in the storerooms. He picked up some scrolls and ledgers of lesser importance that the fort's archivist was able to part with.

Ururang himself, before leaving, written a lengthy scroll with charcoal. The letters of Ur-Uk are as numerous as they're flowing; the wise men at the fortress counted up thirty different symbols, and amongst them sixteen seem to have two or three variations each, with only a 'dot' or 'line' of difference.

The delegation left without any further ado.

1167 AD, Winter

Gold and silver arrives in the Treasury.

Glassware brought some profits as well.

Victory for the Cydwyl! King Estjald managed to break the strength of Helliste in half, and they yielded to his demands. They're no longer allowed to gouge prices or impose taxes on Cydwyllian merchants, and King Helo has also to pay eight years worth of tribute.

Meanwhile, Karasau is still under siege. Fireblood attacks have pierced two out of four layers of the Parsian walls, and many houses and estates were plundered, but the military and governmental center remains untouched. Still, the Parsian leaders reject any peace talks.

1167 AD, Midwinter

Karasau has fallen! Neither Manipur nor Dashir were found in the palace, although the barely-alive King Shapur has been captured. The man is suffering from  advanced rheumatic and muscle pains, as well as has trouble breathing. He has proclaimed Alalkan, his nephew and only royal male, as his envoy and representative for peace talks. Currently, only the sparsely populated badlands and mountains of eastern-northeastern Parsia remain untouched by Methiantese occupation.

The officers in charge are asking how to proceed with him.

A) Execute both, and install Methiantese governor of Parsia at once!
B) I will send my son Bjern as my representative for diplomatic talks.
C) I will send my brother Saenn as my representative for diplomatic talks.
D) I will send my instructions what we need to achieve in peace negoations.
E) Send him over, I will decide what to do with him.

You decide to find yourself a hobby that includes some more physical activities.

1167 AD, Mid-Autumn

Spectacular news from Orcworld fortress were brought by a mounted messenger! A delegation of Ur-Uk has arrived!

They've exchanged gifts with the commander of the fortress; they've brought a lot of brass and bronze items, some iron pins that look suspciously like an emblem or coat of arms (with lots of spikes), plus some crystalline wares. Also, even more metal trinkets, made of material like copper, with strange and luxurious fiery red shine.

The commander of the fortress exchanged with them some items too; glasswares of Methiantese green and yellow coloration, as well as some clothes made of furs and skins, adorned with dyed threads, plus some steel swords and axes, the weapons especially excited the monkey-men quite a lot. Unfortunately, the was absolutely no further communication with the Ur-Uk; their grunting and snorting and syllable-packed language is truly alien, and they react to our own speech with equal amount of confusion.

It seems, however, that one of them, clad in spiffy black coat and robes (meshes lovely with his black skin, black mane and black tail), is supposed to remain; with lots of gesticulation, there seems to be a consensus amongst other Ur-Uk about this purpose. The Ur-Uk in question is quite tall, reaching past seven feet, and considering he says 'Ururang' while pointing at himself, some officers at the fortress believe its his name or honoriffic and that he might be a scholar or some other personage of renown amongst the Ur-Uk.

The commander asks what to do with this 'Ururang the Scholar'.

A) Turn him away, obviously he is a spy of sorts.
B) Keep him at Orcworld Fortress, plenty of things to learn there for him.
C) Let him cross the portal cave into Methiant so he can see the other world and all its wonders by himself.

7155
You accept the Ceodwellian sheeples back into your ranch.

Or something like that.

1167 AD, Autumn

Sieges continue. Scouts and agents report that nowhere there's any cohesive unit of Parsian army attempting to regroup; all your soldiers have to deal with is random raiding parties and small troops of soldiers hiding in villages amongst commonfolk.

The latest harvest feast at your palace has been truly spectacular. Sixteen peacocks, eighteen variations of wheat soup and stew. And all those greens, pickled, marinated, cooked and baked! Delicious.

The evening afterwards, as you undress, you cannot help but stare at your belly. Your wife teasingly poking your flesh doesn't help matter.

Have you gained weight recently?

A) The empire's prosperous and my subjects are well-fed, why shouldn't I feast well too?
B) This is unbeckoning of Emperor! I must begin fasting immediately!
C) Truly, it means I'm leading a leisurely life. How about I do some hunting? Wrestling? Traveling?
