You agree to send the gemstones to the Cydwyls in return for Albionese skins and furs, prized for their luxurious softness.

The feasting continues for another day, but King Erik isn't particularily fortchoming about possible agreements or other deals. Maybe you should prod him a bit about something?

A) Trade!
B) Military!
C) Religion!
D) Family!
E) Naaah.

I have so many questions before enacting settlement policy.

Quote
Enact Settlement Policy:
Guarantee that those willing to settle in previously undeveloped lands or territories yet unclaimed by any nation will be given a certain amount of money to help further their effort. However, this might cause a severe drain on the Treasury, especially during times of sudden, mass migrations to the countryside.

1) Is this mainly targeted at redistributing our people or attracting foreigners to move closer?

2) Do we even get a claim on the new territory? I have to assume so or else what are we paying for, but it doesn't actually say so. If they're discontented Methiantese, perhaps they'll set up their own state that just happens to share most of our culture and values at its start. If foreigners, perhaps they'll be grateful but not wish to be fully integrated – some sort of quasi-vassal at most.

3) Is it really a variable amount with "sudden, mass migration"? I would think it would be easier to put some regular money in a fund, first come first served sort of deal. We've done "regional improvements" before on a system of pay a few years, eventually get a yield of some sort (Zasitost, Tiftit, even central Methiant way way back).

4) Are we able to target a specific area, like the area between Tiftit and the northern Parsians, or even send all takers to homestead in Orcworld? Or do they just have to make an affidavit, "I swear on this non-denominational codice of Methiantese proverbs that I'm on my way to some wilderness"?

1. Both. People migrate much more into the country, slowly but steadily bringing the Population to 8, so you no longer need a chain of conquests, good harvests and festivals to bump it up.

2. They are sponsored by the Crown, thus they have to respond to the Crown. They would be almost 'next door', after all.

3. The moment you send 'colonists' to settle a specific area, you get a 1 drain. Otherwise, the policy is free (you might get extra events, too).

4. Yes, but even then you will get prompts that 'people want to move to unclaimed lands of X, pls sponsor per Policy guarantee'.

You demand of the Treasurer that he spends ome of royal monies on phat feastin'!

One King Erik, his family, and almost eighty of servants and courtiers arrive, the feast has been vastly expanded, with multiple-course meals and variety of drinks from as far as Gubta and Tirine.

Eirika is first to greet you by the way of a hug and a kiss on your wrinkly cheek. Then you meet with Erik and his wife, who is quite pretty, and some pleasantries are exchanged.

The feast is underway; Alissa and Eirika both indulge in meals, drinks and chatter with local noblewomen, while King Erik, seated near you, seems a bit tense. After a while, he speaks up and you two find a common ground for negotiation.

"The Albionese merchants living on our side of the Northern Mountains are quite interested in jewels and gemstones. I've heard that Methiant is mining quite a variety of gemstones. Would you be interested in a trade agreement with Cydwyl? The Albionese have mostly foodstuffs, but they also have quite profitable salt workshops along the coast, and have access to prized furs and skins of various animals. Have you ever had gloves made of the delicate fur of the rare spotted black owlseal? Truly luxurious."

A) "Apologies, but I fear I will be profiting more from selling gemstones here rather than abroad."
B) "Furs and skins would do well for my nobles, or I could sell them further south where they're rare. It's a deal!"
C) "Salt is sparse in this region, and having access to it would do us much good. It's a deal!"

7431
This is the course of nature, and you can't fight it, is your conclusion.

1157 AD, Winter

Gemstones and silver arrive in the Treasury.

Glassware failed to deliver anything but dissappointment. Methiantese merchants blame the weather.

The wedding of Saenn and Meva, daughter of Ingvar, is a lovely one. It's obvious to everyone gathered that the two are deeply in love with each other.

During the second day of feast, however, you receive a messenger from the north. Apparently, King Erik with his wife, Alissa (your grand-half-niece), and your daughter Eirika, Queen Mother of Cydwyl, are due to arrive at your palace in three days!

A) Oh this means we've gotta make this celebration truly spectacular! The Treasurer will have to live with it! Luxurious drinks and cooked pheasants for all!
B) Oh, lovely, they're free to visit us. I hope they bring their own stuff though!

7432
Is for either A: accepting old age woes or B: getting mystical 'n' stuff ;v

7433
Edit: Also, 600 pages of the Yoean Dynasty.

You decide to let him marry whom he loves.

Later you learn they've scheduled their wedding for Winter.

1157 AD, Mid-Autumn

You receive a sad letter from the west. Your sister Gea have died peacefully in her sleep. Besides Valhelma, your half-sister, you're alone, with your siblings and parents, and cousins and uncle long gone.

You consider your advanced age, your health issues and other things for a long while, waking up from this overthinking only when the moon hangs up on the skies.

A) C'est la vie.
B) But I have so much to do! I need to live much longer if I'm to accomplish everything!

7434
Woops, looks like I missed both helmacon's post and Rockeater's change of vote (you guys really should make a separate post for that).

But do you guys want a redo? I mean, the current outcome is pretty good v;

You send the Army to crush the rebels.

Quote
6*

A week later, your Army triumphantly returns. The initial phase of the fighting was a bit hectic, but soon the numerical superiority and discipline of your soldiers meant victory for your troops. Out of the estimated 2650 rebels, your officers believe only few dozen escaped with their lives intact. Glory to Yoean Dynasty! Glory to the Emperor!

1157 AD, Autumn

Upon a rainy day, your son Saenn knocks onto the door of your chambers.

"Enter." You slips inside and closes the door. He approaches you, takes a deep breath, and looks you into the eye.

"Father, I'm here to tell you I'm marrying someone." Oh gosh. Oh what joy.

"Who is it? A thief? A princess with hidden love for fellow princesses? A woman of mystical powders?" He glares at you.

"No, it is daughter of a local nobleman from Felonsein. We met during one of festivals last year, and since then, we've been exchanging correspondence. I've proclaimed her my love, and she responded in kind a month ago. So, I'm asking for permission."

A) "Fine, that's okay. May the Alldivines bless you with many children."
B) "No, you see, I need you to marry someone else some other time."

7436
You decide that Gan Minsong wares are not worth it.

1157 AD, Summer

Another grandkid in your hourse! Bjeda, wife of Eivan, gave birth to a healthy baby girl, which she named 'Caimhe'.

1157 AD, Midsummer

A noble uprising has begun in the northwest of the capital! There are about three thousand rebels, mostly noblemen of lower ranks, but also some of your courtiers and Army officers. They're campaigning to 'remove the Yoean dynasty' from the throne of Methiant for 'sacriledges against gods and crimes against traditions of Methiant'. Led by a charismatic man named Cauth Llyngeilych, they're on the move toward the capital.

The Army of course offers to get rid of these pesky rebels.

A) No, part of their complaints are valid. We ought to negotiate.
B) Go forth and crush them, then! I believe in you guys!
C) I will help and lead the Army personally! FOR GLORY!!

A It saddens me that the age of the dishonorable gun has arrive but nothing we can really do about it. It was going to happened eventually once Fireblood stuff started appearing.

Dude, it took 200 years for people of the local parts to get to musket all the way from thrown fire-bombs in SPAMKINGDOM+ in aboot year 960 :V

You tell him to begin production of Deathreeds for use of Methiantese military.

Then messenger is brought in, and he bows before you with big smile on his face.

"Emperor! I'm glad to see you still on the throne. I have returned from Gan Minsong, even if it wasn't my, well, ours, destination."

He then weaves a tale about how he and his colleagues were ambushed by bandits in southern Helliste. They lost half their numbers, then during a stay at the inn they get in drunken brawl. Four of them left, they finally visited the Helliste court. There, the trade advisor of Helliste King gave them direction to meet with some merchants, but as those lived in the colony of Autgard by Bloodpeak Mountains, they decided to take a ship.

But after a storm rendered their ship sailless, they were attacked by Albionese pirates. Two of the merchants died, and the survivors were picked up by Helliste ship, which was heading to Autgard and then Gan Minsong. In Autgard, the other remaining envoy caught a fever and perished.

Saddened but not heart-broken, the remaining messenger - the one standing before you - decided that this voyage already got so bad and so off-course, that he might as well try his luck getting to Gan Minsong. So he re-embarked on the ship, and visited the distant land in far east. He speaks of giant sea-trees that tried to smash their ship and the cold winds of eastern seas that envelop Gan Minsong islands.

"I must note that the tales of grown buildings and glassy roofs are exaggerations. All I saw was timberwork and clay roof tiles. Their clothes are fabulous, however, of material delicate yet insulating that I never saw anywhere around these parts. Not even threadworm silk and ketton cloth combined could produce something that good, and dyes they produce are brilliant hues of gold, red and blue. Their cuisine is truly alien, however; they indulge on weeds, mice, bats, octopi, oysters and birds and poisonous reptiles and lizards, but know little of meat of land animals, cows and horses do not exist in their lands, nor they produce much crops besides some grains and leafy vegetables."

He then continues his tale of Gan Minsong; apparently, the Helliste haven't been squandering the time and already established a small office in one of Gan Minsongian port cities. It is currently dedicated rest-stop for ship crews as well as place where Gan Minsong script and language is being learned and worked upon by Helliste scholars. Further, the Gan Minsong society seems to be extremely religious, bordering on fanatical; while they tolerate heathens, for a Gan to revere anything else but The Golden King (some sort of ancient King-slash-deity) is considered a crime; the punishment is execution of the heretic and exile of their family from their hometwon into forest-covered countryside or into the snow-covered mountain peaks in Gan Minsong heartlands.

After half a year stay in Gan Minsong, the envoy felt homesick and decided to catch a ship back to Helliste. This time the ride was smooth, and once he got back to Autgard, he found the merchants he was sent to meet in first place. Unfortunately, they turned Methiantese offers down; it seems that Gan Minsong has little interest in glassware, and Helliste merchants seem to calculate the price of eastern goods at much higher price than some paltry gemstones and silver bullion.

His mission a failure, the man however felt obliged to find a way to return home. He traveled along the coast, then joined a trade caravan heading for Cydwyl. He arrived there last Winter, and then journeyed back to Methiant, crossing the border few days before new year's eve.

"And so I am, your Majesty, back home, having failed my mission! Have mercy!"

A) "Mercy? You do not deserve mercy! You potentially crippled our chances at securing wealth of Gan Minsong for Methiantese peoples! To dungeon with you!"
B) "It is clear to me that you had quite a journey. Unnecessary, however. Seems we will have to do without Gan Minsongian wares after all!"
C) "You should've come earlier! If I knew how it was in the north, less time would be wasted waiting and we would've sent another dispatch. In fact, we will send more diplomats to Helliste! I want those fabrics you speak of!"

7438
You decide to meet with Lord of Fireblood Court first.

"My liege! I'm proud to announce that we have made a spectacular progress in Fireblood machinery!"

"What would it be this time?"

"Hand-held Thundercats." The administrator claps his hands gleefully. "Sire, with these wooden and iron contraptions, one can load a projectile, lit the knot and shoot at the enemy before the charging warrior gets there!"

"Do you have working specimen?"

"Yes, but they seem a tad unwieldy at the moment. However, my engineers and alchemists are sure they could produce up to two, three hundred of these 'Deathreeds', as we've been calling them, per year, given our current metallurgical capacity."

You decide to...

A) Bless his efforts and order production and introduction of Deathreeds into Methiantese military.
B) Tell him to continue his work, and come in when he has something better to offer.

7439
You decide against any Edicts.

1157 AD, Spring

There are two people wanting to meet with you; one is the Lord of Fireblood, in charge of the Fireblood Court, and has some news about weapons developed there.

The other person is a single messenger of yours, who claims to have returned from Gan Minsong with news of potential of trade.

A) I don't remember sending any envoys to the Far East. Let him in.
B) First we must concentrate on the strength of Methiant - Fireblood Court!
