You decide to mobilize the populace and call Cydwyl for help!

Two weeks later, the hastily mobilized recruits join forces with the leftovers, plus some fresh troops, and battle the Damdamians.

They push their forces out of Methiant! But casualties were plenty, and your forces bounced back to safer location to regroup, while the enemy is camping inside Lametanian borders.

1155 AD, Late Summer

No response from Cydwyl yet.

Agents of the Spymaster bring news from Eval; apparently, the Damdamians wanted the Evalians to rebel and later join back with Lametanians, which didn't quite sit well with Evalians. Apparently, the Damdamians are now fighting to capture strategic keeps while Evalians are keeping them at bay.

Report comes from borderlands; the enemy is on the move again, and is going to step into Methiant by the Ironbone Mountains within days.

A) We gotta split the forces to help the brave Evalians but also to protect the mainland!
B) The Evalians brought it upon themselves, we need to protect ourselves in the meanwhile.

You gesture at him and yell that he dismounts from his horse!

He does just that! You two can now fight at almost equal terms!

It doesn't go for long before he manages to plunge his sword into your abdomen.

The world spins before you fall onto your back. Choking on your blood, you breathe your last as the sky turns black, forever.

1155 AD, Midsummer

You're Llewyn, son of Houlandin I!

You receive disasterous news from Lametania; your father has been slain on the field of battle and Methiantese Army, deprived of his skilled leadership, has been routed. It's numbers were reduced to eight thousand, but reports come that they're pursued by the victorious Damdamian-Lametanian forces. What's even more worrying is that a smaller force of four thousand has entered Eval, bringing supplies and stirring up uprising amongst Evalian nationalists!

You're hastily crowned Emperor, and you decide to take upon the name of Houlandin II to honor the courage of your fallen father.

With no time for usual celebratory ascension feast, an emergency council is held and several things must be decided upon!

As for the course of the war...

A) We ought to begin negotiations with the southerners, lest they destroy us!
B) We continue fighting!

As for leadership in the war...

A) The Army will have to do without a Yoean leader this time.
B) I will go and lead them personally, like my father did!

As for potential reinforcements...

A) Emergency mobilization will do.
B) We ought to mobilize the populace and call upon Cydwylians to provide help!
C) We ain't in need of those yet.
D) It's time for us to call upon terms of the treaty and ask Kingdom of Cydwyl to help us.

You decide to CHAAAAARRGEE!

You lead your guards and officers into the advancing cavalry of the Damdamians!

The fighting is intense, and the helmeted man with the banner yells at your direction once your forces get close to him. He wears a decorated suit of armor and a cape made of luxurious material. If that is not Crown Prince, then you must've underestimated their fashion sense!

The horses gallop and you two clash in melee!

Quote
4*

With powerful swing to his side, you dent his shield, which he discards! The man yells and then turns his horse so that your swords can meet one on one!

Quote
2*

But then he manages to strike you in the abdomen. You feel the terrible sting of steel burning your flesh.

Quote
4*

The melee continues and the man seems furious that even with your wound, you're putting up such a fight! In a moment of anger, he slips in his defense, and you strike at his dominant hand, cutting through the gauntlet protecting him! He disengages momentarily from the combat. Both of your horses circle each other as you see him switch the weapon to his other hand, the one that held his sword previously red with blood.

Quote
3*

As the melee continues however, you feel your wound giving you even more pain. That proves to be your undoing, as Lupus then strikes you across the chest. It doesn't kill you, but you curse loudly as the world spins you fall from your horse!

You manage to stand up, and after your head clears a bit you see the Crown Prince preparing his horse to rush you! What's worse, it seems that your guards were either killed, distracted, or fled after you were dismounted.

A) Run away! Run away!
B) CHAAAARRRGGEE!
C) Demand he fights like a man!

You decide to rest for the night. But will the messenger to the Damdamians succeed in signing a truce?

He returns as darkness falls; soon war horns are heard, calling for retreat. So you can sleep.

By you're woken in the early morning by the war horns of Damdamians! They've begun their fighting when it is still pretty dark outside!

Quote
5*

The initial attack by their coalition forces is stopped, however, and you can muster a counterattack of your own!

Quote
6*

It penetrates deep into their ranks! The center is collapsing, but then you see the banner of Kingdom of Rucus amongst some horsemen that are charging into the thickest combat! Is it mayhaps the Crown Prince himself, leading his men??

A) CHAAAARRRRRGGGEEE!!!
B) I'm sure my soldiers will withstand this attack as well!

7463
You attempt to rearrange part of your forces to plug the gap!

Quote
7!*

Your troops, drilled by instructors beforehand and captained by you at the moment, pull this off flawlessly, and even manage to break apart the cavalry wedge of the Damdamians!

Quote
4*

Over the course of next hour, your troops are slowly, but messily, gaining ground against the enemy!

But as the sky turns orange and numbers on both sides dwindle, you hear the horns of the enemy; a large cavalry group has just arrived on the battlefield from the south!

Quote
2*

While not enough to render your numerical advantage nil, the tide is turned, and its your soldiers that are now losing ground they claimed before.

Quote
3*

And there we go; the enemy is now pushing into your lines. Thousands of corpses already litter the battlefield, and your officers are talking about retreating, or at least, conceding the fight for the night time, as the sun is now but a small slice peeking above the horizon.

A) We shall continue fighting under the benevolent shine of the full moon!
B) Fine, some rest is required. We ought to be gentlemen and ask the Damdamians of the same.
C) Retreat then! We will pick a fight at better terrain and better time of day.

You shout some absurd mix about oath-breaking and protection of religious freedoms of people you conquer and subjugate. The envoy laughs.

"As our King suspected, just another opportunistic campaign by the Methiantese, thinly-veiled with excuses. My mission was a waste of time, it seems. Well, I wish you good fighting, Emperor!" The messenger turns his horse around and speeds to his master's lines, no doubt to relay that your true goal is yet another conquest.

The trumpets and horns blare the sound of war, and the armies clash!

Quote
6*

The initial bombardment and subsequent melee goes well for the Methiant Army, however! The sound of clashing metal sweetly mixes with screams of agony. The ranks grind down their opponents in massive bloodshed.

Quote
6*

Then your forces gain momentum and begin pushing into the center of enemy formation, but the Crown Prince, no doubt leading the forces, decides to let his cavalry fly against your flank!

Quote
2*

It shatters pretty easily! Either the heavy cavalry is too heavy for your troops or maybe there were some untrained recruits there, but the Lametanian horsemen struck a wedge into your otherwise well-arrayed forces.

You decide to...

A) Help the fighting there by leading your guards personally into the fray!
B) Rearrange some troops to plug the hole and repel the attackers.
C) Shift your forces and try to repay the Crown Prince with a wedge of your own!

7465
You elect for the battle to take place in the open field!

As the sun begins its descent towards the horizon from the highest point on the sky, your forward troops report dust and banners of Lametanians and Damdamians before you! The two armies finally meet!

Though the enemy does not advance beyond a certain point and you stop your troops as well, aware of a trap in progress. Instead, one rider, in full armor but without decorations, rides forth toward your battle lines. His voice, demanding to meet with you, is heard above the lines clearly.

"I am Damotinian, messenger of Crown Prince Lupus Onigirus Rucus! He asks, by which right, divine or royal, dare you and your soldiers invade the peaceful soil of Rucusian ally, friend and fellow child of Damed, Lametania! If idle conquest and plunder is what you are trying to accomplish, you might as well dismiss me, for Crown Prince will not let this happen!"

A) "Away with you, then!"
B) (come up with something here)

7466
You decide to tie up the border forts and then march onto the capital.

Three large and surely important enough keeps are attacked and besieged in a span of the week. Your raiders are terrorizing the populace while scouts are making inroads into the deeper territory of Lametania.

1155 AD, Summer

News from the royal chambers! You've become an uncle once again; Bjeda, wife of Eivan, gave birth to a boy, whom she named 'Hain'.

Just as your forces march into Lametanian heartlands almost unopposed, scouts return; a sizeable army is marching against you! The scouts weren't able to count them up properly, but there's at least ten thousand of the bunch. What's more important is that, besides the flag of Lametania, some battalions march under the banner of Kingdom of Rucus, and some even under the Imperial Banner of Damdamia, too (plus several instances of banners your scouts do not recognize)!

Two thirds of the army is comprised of footmen, of which half is crossbowmen and archers, and the remainder is some heavily armored cavalrymen. Numerous supply wagons were spotted, along with some Fireblood machines. They didn't seem to be any Methiantese design, although they were sleek and of smaller size, like Thundercats. Your officers assume these are anti-infantry weapons rather than siege ones.

This combined army is just a day south of your current position and is on direct course to intercept you. You have almost one-and-half numerical advantage over them, but who knows what they might have up their sleeves?

A) We will fight in the open field, where our numbers and skill will crush them!
B) We ought to find and/or prepare defensive positions, and await their coming.

You decide to postpone the campaign for the wedding.

1155 AD, Late Spring

Herta arrives at the capital and the wedding occurs! The bride has twenty one winters under her belt, is taller even than you, has very white skin and flock of pale blonde hair, bordering on white you could swear, and her bosom is moderately large, but she's got legs, as far as you can tell.

Llewyn is not sure what to make of the girl, but next day he complains of tiredness and loinache. Bedchamber maids report that compared to him, Herta looks fine and full of energy. She seems also very interested in the books in the royal library, as well as ponies in the palatial stables, and also the local embroidery and fabrics knitted by the matrons.

But enough of family matters. Entrusting Llewyn with his new family, and the court with matters of the state, you leave with the Army!

Congratulations! Houlandin I embarks on a military campaign!

As the Army nears Lametania by the next week, your officers wonder about the strategic plan.

A) Besiege some border forts to tie them up, then march for the capital!
B) We roll through their backyard a bit to draw them out into the field!
