You promise to deliver the eyepatch to Houlandin.

Few goodbyes later you're on the road home, surrounded by guards both yours and those dispatched bt Cidric, to accompany you to the border.

Less than a week later, you give Houlandin the eyepatch. After examining it, he scoffs, mumbles something and takes the gift with himself. At the mention that you arranged him a wife, he looks neither angry nor pleased. He takes it as, well, it's something he has to do.

1137 AD, End of the Year

The winter has been most peaceful, and you wonder how the numbers are doing. You will learn the answer shortly - the Advisor has just entered your chambers, the ever-correct Scrolls of Kingdom Status laid before your eyes for the n-th time during your reign.

Happiness: 6
Population: 8
Economy: 6
Army: 3
Imp.Authority: 0

Those are much better numbers.

"Thanks to your wise choices, and extra money that cam to our Treasury, we're much better this year, sire." Therefore, you decide to lower the taxes.

"Your subjects are a little bit concerned about your ability to defend the Empire, sire. While it's just matter of time till our Army recovers, it seems that your Authority isn't what it was two years ago."

He takes some parchments out of his robes.

"Do you wish to issue an Edict this year, Emperor?"

A) "But of course."
B) "Ask me next year."

You tell her not to worry, as you're quite sure Cidric will take care of them in matter of, say, months.

She then decides to question you a bit and you tell her about her siblings, especially about Iwald whom you've heard before leaving that he shapes to be quite a wise theologician and he isn't bad either with herbalism and geology and numbers. You also talk about Houlandin, and after a moment Eirika claps her hands and runs off, certainly having remembered something.

Your daughter brings you a small box.

"I almost forgot. Can I ask you to give Houlandin this? I made it myself."

You open the box and pull out a string inside, before you notice what it is - an eyepatch. A sturdy, adjustable eyepatch, the leather strap is trimmed with black ermine fur, with the patch itself embroidered with silver thread at the edges and a small emblem of Methiant sewn in the middle, out of emerald and golden threads.

You kiss your daughter on forehead and praise her knitting skills, and decide to...

A) Promise her that you will deliver this exquisite eyepatch to Houlandin for her.
B) Tell her that you cannot give Houlandin this eyepatch, as it might hurt his feelings.

You decide to spend time with Eirika.

You have a pleasant chit-chat with her. By the end of it, she voices her worries.

"I really hope you will continue to support Cidric, father. He is a good boy, even if a little air-headed. I wish those uncles of his could just disappear. They kept the Cydwyl Kingdom afloat for many years, but lately they're more and more of a nuisance, if you ask me..."

A) "Don't worry, they will disappear, and soon. You can count on me for that."
B) "I'm sure Cidric will set out to curb his uncles' power somehow."
C) "Maybe you should get chummy with those uncles, try to lure them into lowering their guard?"
D) "Can't promise anything, my dear."

//Puppyguard posted just as I was re-reading this so I dun count his vote 'v.

You tell him that best course of action would be to make up some charges and arrest one or two least influential of his uncles, just to make them think.

He mulls over the idea, takes a gulp from his goblet, and nods.

"Uncle Irvid has been doing some business dealings with the Albionese lately..." He mumbles and then returns to feasting.

In the morning, there's still time to do something, so you decide to...

A) Question Cidric's courtiers a little.
B) Spend time with your beloved daughter, Eirika.
C) Try to have some more diplomacy with Cidric himself.

You talk about his uncles, or at least try to get the drunk King into conversation about them.

You deliver him such a scathing, sobering and armor-piercing whisper that, for once, Cidric puts the goblet away in disgust.

"And what do you think am I supposed to do?" He whispers back. "They fund my army out of their pockets. They conclude favorable treaties because I'm not able. They arrange marriages that I learn about only afterwards. Only thing I'm good at is fighting, and even then they provide more supplies and recruits than I could ever field. Besides, they're a family. Whom am I to become, a kinslayer maybe?"

A) "Start a purge across Cydwyl, and my armies and my sons will help you regain true power!"
B) "Become my vassal, this way you and your country will be safe from threats internal and external!"
C) "Did you know, I happen to have very sneaky spies that could arrange several... 'accidents'."
D) "And I married my daughter to a wimp like you? Truly, your uncles would do better on Cydwyllian throne."
E) "Make up some charges and imprison a few of them, that will make others think!"
F) "You can do nothing but wait, for now."
