Hmmm...

Stop hmmm'ing and vote already, and if you have nothing to vote for, remain silent ;V

YOu read a letter from your daughter.

In the letter, Eirika complains about her life at Cidric's court. She has all the pleasures she could ask for, of course, but Cidric isn't exactly a perfect husband. He prefers to go hunting, fighting with squires and drinking with his uncles rather than help with kids or spend time with Eirika. Cidric at least doesn't keep his eyes at other ladies and buys Eirika expensive gifts from time to time, but still she wished you've found her a more attentive husband.

In second part of her letter she complains about Cidric's uncles. They're the most nosy, rude and otherwise ratty people she has ever met. And what's worse, Cidric even seems to be in their clutches, if not willingly, then at least unknowingly. Everything they say or even suggest, her husband takes as best idea and tries to implement. She believes that Cidric's uncles might've had history with meddling with Cydwyl court as far as during Talon's short and rather unspectacular reign, as she found out from lower ranking courtiers that he was quite complacent and relies on his brothers to do governing around most of the time (except economical matters, as he kept a constant check on the pulse there).

Eirika concludes her letter with a hope that you can persuade Cidric to, as she puts it, 'man up and sober up', or at least one of these things.

A) Well a court life is never a perfect life, she should get used to it!
B) Hmm, how about I arrange a visit to Cydwyl capital?
C) Time to send my son-in-law a verbose and honest letter with some tips on governing.

PTW!

You decide to keep a lid on this for now, maybe somewhere in the future you can use this to your advantage. You dismiss the Spymaster and the Advisor, and return your attention to the letters.

Only now you notice a certain difference; the letter from Cidric is signed with royal seal of Cydwyl, while the one from Eirika uses a simple wax seal. The one from your daughter is most possibly a personal letter.

A) Family before state affairs!
B) State affairs before family!

You decide to meet with the Spymaster and the Advisor in one of side chambers.

The Spymaster is looking through the window, his hands behind his back in overdramatic posing. The Advisor looks a bit nervous.

"Sire, we've discovered who has sent the latest assassin." The Advisor begins.

"And who that be?" You ask, but the Advisor looks skittish and wary to answer.

"Well??"

"King Daric of Eldrican, your Majesty." The Spymaster steps away from the window.

"This man who tried to kill you recently has been apprehended by my agents and interrogated. For once, we obtained enough information from him. He was sent by the Eldricans, apparently on the orders of your brother-in-law." You sit down, trying to mull it over.

"This man has also shared enough bits of information to let us determine that indeed, the other assassin who tried to have you killed two years ago was also sent by Daric of Eldrican."

"Was... was Esta also killed by his orders?"

"Unfortunately, we have no clues to match it up to Empress' untimely demise. Her assassination will remain a mystery still."

"Damn it all! For what hellish reason would my own family try to get me murdered!?" The Spymaster looks at the Advisor, and the Advisor looks at him, then they both look at you without a word said. Just like you, they have no idea.

You decide to...

A) Write an angry letter to King Daric of Eldrican, demanding explanation, and compensation, for his vile acts of treachery!
B) Keep a lid on this discovery for now, and mayhaps you can use it later.
C) Use this as an pretext to attack Eldrican Kingdom with your glorious Army!
D) Spread the word of Daric's treachery so that his reputation suffers both in his homeland and abroad.
E) Send an assassin of your own. Once, you can forgive, but now it's eye for eye!

You decide to postpone construction of Royal Keep for a year and raise taxes. No edicts this year either.

1137 AD, Summer

You are sitting at the private library of your family, up in the main keep. You're about to call it a night and return to your chambers, when you feel something behind your back.

You turn around, just in time to see a man, armed with a short sword step from behind the curtain! You unsheathe Wolf-Fang just fast enough to block his strikes, although he manages to cut your hand rather badly. Blood drips from the wound

His attempt botched, he attempts to escape!

The man has fled through the window, despite you raising the alarm. Your guards, however, manage to retrieve some of his things; the sword he has dropped, and a pin of his cloak, adorned with western styles.

The captain of the guard apologizes once again for letting for this situation to happen, while the Spymaster has already agents working on pieceing together the assassin's origins and attempting to discern his employer.

Next evening...

The healers are alarmed by the bout of fever that attacked you this afternoon. They easily pinpoint the reason behind this as some metal bit of the assassin's sword being lodged in your hand, so they re-open the wound and remove it.

Two days later...

You make a full recovery from the fever. While your hand needs a bit of healing more, the medics are positive it will be just like new in matter of a week or two.

1137 AD, Midsummer

You receive a royal courier from the north; two letters were written to you, one by King Cidric, and one by your daughter and his wife, Eirika.

Though just as you're about to open the letters, a servant steps up to you and leans down.

"Sire, the Advisor and the Spymaster have something to tell you. They say it's related to the assasination attempt."

You decide to...

A) Read the letters from the north.
B) See what's this urgency about.

7807
The only ones passed were fireblood court to centralize fireblood development and religious equality edict to rubber-stamp the de facto tolerant society of Methiant ;v

7808
You caw at the raven.

The birb descends at your face!

Quote
6*

You won't have a raven trying to peck your eyes out. Indeed, you smack it across its feathered body with the back of your hand. Cawing in most defeated way possible, the raven flies away into the night. Somehow, you have this supreme certainty that it was the prophetic raven you met before.

You seize the lantern with your hands, as if it's your prize. No mythical creature whatsoever will be dictating your future. You're the Emperor! You're the lord of your own destiny!

1136 AD, Late Winter

You get another grandkid; Abis has given birth to another boy. The happy parents named him 'Anwyn'.

From the north, you get news that King Cidric has concluded his campaign against the Agaresians, having routed another attack and having captured two Agaresian princes, forcing them to sign a peace treaty. A messenger arrives soon enough; your Thundercats, except few that were lost in combat, will be returned to you shortly.

From the south, you get news that Lametanians have managed to bring another defeat upon the Imperial landlords and have forced them to negotiations' table. You've received no letter of thanks for the two caravans of supplies you've sent so far, but maybe they're leaving the formalities for after the war?

End of the Year, 1136

Another long year. You drink down a goblet of wine, wishing for a simpler, more peaceful times ahead.

Ah, here comes the Advisor.

Quote
2to6

"My liege, I have to report that proclamation of religious equality has been, begrugdingly or not, accepted by your peoples and most important by the heads of various religious orders. It seems that they finally saw no possible way of attaining power under your wise and tolerant policy."

His Scrolls of Kingdom Status are landed on your desk, and he unfolds them...

Happiness: 6
Population: 8
Economy: 1
Army: 2
Imp.Authority: 0

"Sire, our various expedidentures are seriously draining the Treasury. The Hurthling lands are still being developed, and the Royal Keep is still under construction. The Treasurer advises that we cut funding somewhere, unless we want to gamble on the next year's profits from glassware and metal supplies. At least raising taxes for a year would be a good precaution."

"While our bled-out Army is thinly spread and our economy is suffering, the recent victory against the rebels have kept people's opinions in check. However, your flurry of edicts is putting some strain on the subjects."

As for taxes...

A) Raise them for a year.
B) Nah, no need for that.

As for extra measures to cut spending for next year...

A) Halt the construction of Royal Keep.
B) Cut Army budget.
C) Stop the Hurthling development project.
D) Cut Fireblood Court's budget.
E) We will do fine, no need for desperate decisions!

Finally, the Advisor prepares a batch of clean parchment for you.

"Do you wish to issue an Edict, your Majesty?"

A) Obviously, duh!
B) Next year maybe.

7809
You decide to wait.

The birb caws at you in pretty normal birb way.

A) Shoo the birb away from the lantern.
B) Ca-caaaw?
C) Time to evacuate, now!

You follow the light up the stairs.

There it is! A lantern, knocked over on the floor of this balcony. The candle is still lit, its flame pretty normal orange.

Your interest is quickly absorbed, however, by a bird perched on the crenellations. It is a small, black raven. It's beak shines in moon light and its eyes seem to have certain degree of red coloration in them.

Bloody red coloration, in fact.

A) Time to evacuate, now!
B) Ca-caaaw?
C) Shoo the birb away from the lantern.
D) Wait.

You tell him that you will remove him from the line of succession if he dons the robe. He looks at you, thinks for a moment, and scoffs.

"Hardly a sacrifice."

You don't talk more with him, and he leaves next day, his personal belongings packed on a horse.

1136 AD, Midwinter

Your officers bring news to you; your son Iwald shapes up to be yet another martial talent, having shown skills in leadership and swordfighting already.

Few days, or rather, evenings later, you're walking around the castle, unable to sleep. One moment, you stumble into an unused tower with a pretty decent view through its tiny window.

It's when, in the corner of your eye, you spot a flicker of light. You turn around, but no one's here.

Then, there's the same flicker of light, but up the spiral stairs, leading to the top floor of this supposedly abandoned tower.

A) I better check it out, adventure calls!
B) Gotta alert the guards, it's another assassin for sure!
C) I bet it's some ghost. I need to ask the priests to purify this place!

7812
Shush, you ;v

You decide to avoid pomp (and overt spending) with Connan's funeral.

1136 AD, Late Autumn

Somehow, Lametanians score a major victory over the combined might of Damdamians.

1136 AD, Winter

Gold, silver and gemstones arrive in the Treasury.

Quote
2to5, 1

While metals do sell for a bit, the glassware market seems to have crashed; barely a coin was made on selling the glass crafts to local people wealthy enough to afford it!

Few days after the Treasurer's most recent report, your son Ustwelf approaches you after the evening meal.

"Father, I wish to join a Pantheonist temple in the northwest, near border with the Koi. I shall join their ranks as an acolyte, to further strengthen my faith."

"Is there another reason?" You ask, and Ustwelf grimaces, turning his eyes away.

"There is, but I shall keep it to myself." You decide to...

A) Let him go to join the priestly ranks.
B) Tell him you will have to remove him from the line of succession if he dons the robe!
C) Keep him under lock and guard, a disloyal son and a heretic will only cause trouble if sent away from your watchful eye!
D) Offer to sponsor construction of a temple at castle grounds, so he can both stay and pray without going anywhere.
E) Explain him that you need him here, at the capital.

7814
You decide that Evalian leaders and nobility must go, so the masses will more easily adjust to new overlordship by Methiantese peoples.

You write up proscriptions for your agents and officials, and some believe that over hundred of people will have to disappear by end of the year.

With that, the Army moves in to garrison the area and pacify some villages (if they dare to resist), and the campaign is concluded.

Congratulations! Cyl I successfully completes a campaign!

Tragedy strikes two days into return journey to Methe; Connan's health worsens considerably after a bout of fever, and he perishes just before the sunrise of the third day.

A) A military hero of Methiant has perished! He shall have a grandiose funeral and even grander tomb must be constructed for him!
B) Esta's surely turning in her grave, knowing that Connan will be joining her in the family's tomb.

You ride in to help Houlandin bring San down!

Quote
3*

The fighting is fierce and San manages to fight you both on more than equal footing.

At one point, you get slashed across head. You fall from the horse, your back meeting the ground in a most painful way as your horse rides away. You quickly sit up to look at Houlandin, still fighting San!

They continue on even as you lift yourself from the ground.  Houlandin strikes San in the abdomen, but the Evalian prince soon repays by cutting at his left leg.

Quote
5*

Moments later, as you blink, Houlandin's mace descends upon San's face. The crunch is audible even while combat rages around you, but the sight of San's body plummeting to the ground without resistance is most satisfying - especially when he doesn't stand up.

Houlandin lets out a cry of victory and soon Methiantese soldiers around repeat after him.

Quote
7!*

Death of San has immediate and pretty obvious repercussions; his horsemen scatter, and peasants dissolve into chaotic, disorganized mass that is mowed down. The battle, while it lasts another hour, has already ended in victory.

By the evening, your Army celebrates destruction of the rebel forces.

Your officers gather in a council, as future of Eval and its peoples is to be decided.

A) Their popular leaders and noblemen are to be 'dealt with', and replaced with Methiantese aristocracy, officials and important families.
B) We've dealt with the rebels, now its time to show a gentler hand to the dumb sheeple covering in their hamlets at the moment!
C) Repercussions will be harsh and before we return to Methe, there will be less Evalians in Eval than ever before!!
