Oh yeh I knew I was forgetting something.

You decide to send twice the proposed amount to help battle the outbreak of sickness amongst the refugees.

1136 AD, Late Spring

Some skirmishes occured in the north between Cydwyls and Agaresians, though nothing major happened.

1136 AD, Summer

It's been quiet on Cydwyl front; besides a small battle against about two thousand Agaresians, nothing else happened in past weeks.

Meanwhile, refugees slowly make their way towards inner parts of the Empire, as the disease outbreaks have been dealt with and now medics have enough essences and medicine to properly treat new arrivals. It make take years before the Parsians settle down, but that's only more subjects for you.

Few days later, there's more family drama for you to muddle through.

It seems that Leath has decided that local ale and Alldivine prayers are not exciting enough, and has delved into Parsian mysticism and some highly intoxicating powders.

The courtiers murmur, having found him drooling and giggling in one of the guest bedrooms, without his pants and without his dignity. His wife isn't in better shape, but rather than having a euphoric fit she just sits in the corner, reaching toward the window and chanting some Parsian words as if she was being visited by one of Eleven.

Nobles say that Abis might be having bad influences on your son and heir, and some murmur that it was Parsian plan all along. Few shake their heads and say that no matter the influence, a weak-willed man will always fall for trappings of strange and exotic.

Still, you need to make a decision about this little mess.

A) Abis is an saboteur and a spy for her father! Divorce is a necessity; we should find Leath a better wife somewhere else.
B) Leath's weakness shows that he is unfit to rule! Let's make Ustwelf the heir to throne of Methiant instead.
C) We have alcohol, the Parsians have powders, that's all. Everyone needs to relax sometimes!
D) Time to smack up Leath a little bit, because it seems he is forgetting that he is the heir of the Empire, and with that comes responsibility and certain etiquette to follow.
E) Time to lecture Abis about how damaging her Parsian practices are to her family, and remind her that she is in Methiant, not Parsia, and thus should finally become a true Methiantese.
F) Better clear your throat with some herbal water, because there will be a long, loud and very angry lecture for both of them when they get sober.

You decide to extend the mobilization as well as send supplies to Connan and Houlandin via Tiftit province.

1136 AD, Mid-Spring

Alarming news come from Ceodwell. It has had a bit of trouble with securing food and lodgins for some of the refugees last winter, and while your officials managed to solve that problem, they're now facing a potentially much more dangerous crisis; some of the camps, where the Alldivine worshippers are staying temporarily, became hot-spots of various diseases.

The governor of Ceodwell as well as various city mayors are asking the Crown for immediate assistance.

A) Send some supplies their way, it cannot be that bad.
B) Disease is no joke, let's send more than enough supplies to Ceodwell.
C) Sorry, I'm on a thin budget this year.

You decide to Proclaim Religious Equality.

Inter-faith conflict will no longer be allowed within borders of Methiant. Theological differences or not, various cults and congregations will have to either learn to live in peace and cooperation, or face fines, jail time, or revocation of their priviledges.

1136 AD, Spring

News come from the north; your soldiers and your two sons scored a major victory against the Agaresians, wiping out almost five thousand of lizard riders in truly brilliant tactical envelopment. Thundercats and Cydwyllian cavalry forces also played major factor in the victory.

Few days later you receive a letter from Connan, however, which seems a little bit pessimistic.

In the letter, he describes growing differences between him and Houlandin, shortages of Fireblood (Cidric's court isn't very punctual nor generous with resupply), and the fact that there's alarmingly large number of Agaresian reinforcements every few months.

In the final paragraph, he pelads for you to extend emergency mobilization and send some supplies through Tiftit, as he doesn't believe his brother-in-law's courtiers, especially his elder relatives. You muse about your reply to Cidric for a while.

As for emergency mobilization...

A) Decide to extend it for another year.
B) Write that you cannot strain people's backs with distant, foreign wars this much.

As for supplies...

A) Agree to send supplies, but through Cydwyl Kingdom, because hiding stuff from your allies is a bad thing to do.
B) Sadly inform Connan that there's a bit too much on your head (and Treasury's back) to send him stuff.
C) Agree to send supplies through Tiftit, just like Connan asked.

You decide to use your administratorial superpower once more!

MILITARY EDICTS:

Matters of military hierarchy, philosophy of war and development of military tech.

Issue the Codex of Training Regimen:
A set of efficient (and slightly draconian) requirements and practices of training to ensure that the Army gets only the best recruits of them all. This will make the Army much better in combat, although there might be a problem to fill yearly recruitment quotas sometimes.

Establish the Shadowranks:
Politics often involve underhanded tactics. A castle full of commoner staff and visiting foreigners just asks for a disaster to occur. Let's have the military form a professional division of most loyal of soldiers, who would protect the Emperor, his family and important state officials, during the day, night, war, peace, revelries of festivals and monotony of daily life.

BUREAUCRATIC EDICTS:

Matters of administration and government.

Establish The Council of Statesmen:
Creation of a small council of governmental officials who will be tasked with helping the government run smoother alongside traditional advisors, and, of course, the monarch himself. This will help strengthen the Imperial Authority, even in dire times, and help pass edicts quicker, although giving even more political power away from the throne than in the past might become a source of troubles one day.

Expand Primogeniture Law:
A string of bad luck can render a monarch without a male heir or cause succession debates. Rather than risk some unpleasant consequences of such a situation, it might be better to allow a skilled female to ascend to the throne, especially if she is as good at matters of the governance as any other ruler.

Establish Passage Tax:
All those travelers, adventurers, merchants and others are moving through the country for free! Let's establish a tax for those entering and leaving our country - this will earn us nice profits each year, although it might slow down immigration and convince some merchants to seek passage through elsewhere.

CULTURAL EDICTS:

Matters of religion, culture and art.

Proclaim Religious Equality:
Travelers, merchants, immigrants; they all bring new beliefs and philosophies into the country. Rather than fight those foreign influences, it might be best to allow all peoples free worship on equal level no matter the size and beliefs of the congregation, to help all different worshippers achieve a certain degree to harmony and peace.

Establish Calendar of Festivities:
Rather than throw a festival every few years to celebrate a bontiful harvest, let's instead establish a cyclic and stable calendar of state-sponsored festivities for the whole year. This will cause a drain on the Treasury, but hey - people love festivals!

REVOKE EDICT: Revokes a previously implemented edict, either to cut spending, appease some disgruntled subjects, or both. On the other hand, it might tick off some other peoples, potentially causing a deadly cascade of discontent.

Late Spring, 1135 AD: Established the Fireblood Court:
Creation of a specialized military branch devoted purely to development of Fireblood arms to ensure they are aplenty and of best designs around. This will allow to centralize the production, research and budgeting of Fireblood weaponry rather than having some errant alchemists and engineers running around, trying to make things happen.

You promptly have a talk with the master of your servants. Making up some slight against you, you order her removed from the palace, and he agrees to do so.

Next morning, Siria is nowhere to be seen, and another maid took her place.

1135 AD, End of the Year

You might be an Emperor, your Kingdom might've upgraded into an Empire, and you might have much more power in your hands.

One thing remains unchanged however~!

The Advisor pops in to your study, displaying the Scrolls of Kingdom Status on your desk. You noticed that the Advisor added a line in them.

"All the recent developments, expansions, constructions and money given away has drained our robust Treasury quite hard, my liege. The Army is itself a bit strained but that's the result of all this warring this year."

"I also have to report that the Fireblood Court has begun its work in earnest. It will take few years for them to replace the old masters but your officials are positive they can soon do even better than them."

Then he pulls away a large amount of papers from under his robes.

"Do you wish to proclaim an edict this year, Emperor? I have proposals and blank parchment at the ready." You decide to...

A) Issue an edict.
B) Skip it this year.

Unfortunately that does have some repercussions. Once agian, nobility and officials state their dipleasure with what they call 'a scandal', and of course the Alldivinist front doesn't think of it well either. You can be sure people are displeased and don't think of you well as an Emperor for letting your children to stray from the faith of your grandfather.

1135 AD, Late Winter

According to news from the north, the battlefront has been quiet for past weeks except for few very minor skirmishes.

As the days pass, you cannot help but admit that you see this young maid Siria in different light. You find her long brown hair simply lovely, and her sparkly green eyes like emeralds. Every time she brings you food, you feel certain dose of excitement. Every time you talk with her, she seems elated to be near you. Your wife has recently died yet your heart and body aches for a companionship of a woman, it seems.

And from what you've heard from some of the kitchen matrons, Siria apparently talks about no one but you when it comes to men.

A) My heart underestimates my willpower. Infatuation will pass!
B) This will only bring bad luck. I have to dismiss Siria right away.
C) My sons are adult and my dynasty secure. I can do what my heart desires!

You decide to send some money to the Evalian city mayors to help rejunevate the land that suffered from this year's war.

1135 AD, Midwinter

News from the north; another big battle was fought against Agaresians. Five thousand died in it, half amongst Agaresians and half amongst the Alliance (mostly Cidric's own soldiers this time).

You also have a chance to visit the newly constructed keep. It's foundations have been put into place and initial walls of the ground floor are being constructed. The foreman says that they will try to have it finished by 1140.

Few days later, you receive an unpleasant surprise; some courtiers apparently spied on Ustwelf, who was praying according not to the Alldivine rites of your dynasty, but along the rituals of the Pantheon.

You decide to talk with him, as there absolutely cannot be such splits in the royal family!

"It feels fake, father! It lacks substance!" Ustwelf grumbles and then paces about his room. "Father, to me, it is only a philosophy, it's not a religion! No deity to turn to, no sacred sites to visit and no mystical rituals to partake! It's all talk and discussion and scholatry and nothing to fully immerse oneself in. I shall convert to Pantheonism, and so will my wife and my children when I finally get some."

You decide to...

A) Threaten to disown him if he abandons the faith of your family.
B) Allow him to do as he wishes, even if it will hurt the dynasty's image.
C) Attempt to convince him to remain an Alldivinist.

7842
You order execution of the most corrupt engineers and alchemists, while others are thrown into dungeon, degraded in ranks or heavily fined. Eleven are killed, seventy other punished.

More loyal and moral, albeit less experienced youths are put in their place.

1135 AD, Mid-Autumn

News arrive from Cydwyl frontier; many skirmishes culminated in a big battle where over sixteen thousand Cydwyl, Methiantese and Dahnian soldiers fought against ten thousand Agaresians, most of them mounted on their fearsome war lizards. The battle was won. and less than thousand Agaresians left the battlefield alive.

There are bad news about the battle, too; allied Army lost a third of their soldiers. Furthermore, your son Houlandin has been wounded in the face, and healers are racing to save his left eye.

A new messenger arrives five days later; Houlandin is now one-eyed, and while he says he is fine, many believe will never be as good and skilled maceman as before.

1135 AD, Late Autumn

Another report comes from Cydwyl; three more battles were fought against Agaresians, each time about a thousand of those easterners were slain.

There is a letter from governor of Ceodwell; he reports that many Parsian Alldivinists have arrived in past months in his province. Local Cloisters are taking care of them, while his administration is attempting to settle them down or help them move further westwards.

1135 AD, Winter

Gold and silver arrive at your capital, are then repackaged and sent to Cydwyl per your agreement with Cidric last year.

Quote

Metals mined in the east provide profits, but glassware outdoes it; the demand for it is higher than last year and thus the price climbed up. That didn't bother the buyers amongst your nobility and local merchants, who praised both quality of the wares and you for supplying them with it.

You receive doubly joyful news; Abis gave birth to another child; it's a girl she named Ela. And the same evening, a messenger brought a letter from King Cidric; his dynastic line has been ensured because your daughter, Eirika, gave birth to twin boys, whom she named Erik and Estjald.

Meanwhile however, not all is well in recently conquered land of Eval; there is lots of insability there. Administrators report that many Evalians in the cities are grumbling aloud about being conquered peoples.

A) They will grumble for a while and then get used to it, no big deal.
B) Maybe if I throw some money their way, they will calm down?
C) Ungrateful scum. I gotta send some troops there to remind them of their place!

You decide to send some money to eastern Cloisters. The Battlebrother praises your name and leaves in hurry.

1135 AD, Autumn

There's an uproar in your administration.

Turns out that previous system of engineers and alchemists working on Fireblood was not only inefficient but very corrupt. Your officials, once they got to the private ledgers of the researches, found that over the years lots of money was being siphoned into pockets of high-ranking men. Unfortunately, those corrupt men are the best specialists Methiant have, and while your officials believe nobody should escape the law, military officers say that Methiant cannot simply discard these men and start anew.

A) That is true. Punish them with heavy fines but do not harm them. The Fireblood Court will need their services, even if they're a tad bit immoral.
B) No! We cannot tolerate corruption; the worst offenders are to be executed while others thrown into dungeon, even if it will set us back few years (hopefully not more).

7845
You shoot down the proposal and the administrator walks out gloomy-faced.

The Battlebrother from Parsia enters next.

"Most blessed Cyl! I've come on behalf of Alldivine refugees that attempt to leave Parsia. While Shapur lets our brethren leave as they please, many are poor and live far away from the border. It is hard for them to scrape enough ducats to pack up and leave for Methiant. Please, can you provide money and supplies for Cloister at the border with Parsia? I personally spoke with three Cloisterlords and they agreed to this if only I gain your support."

You decide to...

A) Send generous amounts of monetary help to the border Cloisters.
B) Send some money and supplies to the Alldivine Cloisters.
C) Offer to write a letter to King Shapur of Parsia on behalf of Alldivines.
