You cannot let Esta go without a final goodbye. Herbs and oils, or whatever your alchemists have, can be used to preserve the body.

As the messenger is given some rest and a fresh one is sent with a reply to the capital, the scout enters.

"Sire, there is another unit of Evalians marching toward us. I was the only one to stumble upon it, and I haven't been able to get a good look on it, but I say its no more than two thousand men strong."

A) "We shall ignore it also. The faster we get to and deal with Duke of Eval, the better."
B) "That is some numbers we cannot ignore. We will march against them."
C) "Let's retreat some days towards the border, just in case!"

You decide to see the messenger from the capital first.

Visibly distressed and nervous, he falls to your knees and hands you a letter.

Your stomach shrivels and twists, and your heart stops in its tracks. Your breath falters and your spine wobbles with chills.

The Empress, your dearest wife, Esta, has been killed!

You mumble that to your officers, but you don't listen what they have to say on the matter.

According to this letter from the Spymaster and the Advisor, four nights after you left with the Army, Empress Esta, after putting Saenn to bed, retreated to her bedroom. Shortly afterwards, the guards heard some struggle and entered her bedchambers, just to see someone pulling the Empress, now screaming, by her hair, through the window. She fell down and broke her body on the rooftops, dying instantly.

You sit down on a stool brought to you by one of the officers.

Like some sorceror of foul magics, the assassin managed to escape. The Spymaster promises to scour the entire capital in search for the foul bastard or those who employed him, while the Advisor asks about funeral proceedings for the tragically departed Empress.

After you gulp down some wine, you decide to...

A) Keep the body in good condition, so that you can attend a grandiose funeral personally after dealing with the Duchy of Eval.
B) Have the court lead proceedings of a grandiose funeral while you're away.
C) Ask them to start funeral preparations, but to wait for you, because you will be back at the capital in few days.

You continue moving towards the capital. The thousand strong light force breaks off the pursuit and 'bounces' back southeast.

Six days later, after few more skirmishes with no band larger than hundred men, and just as an easternly scout is about to deliver very important report, your guards step into the tent.

"Sire, a messenger from the Capital is here, saying its urgent." You decide to...

A) Hear the scout's report first.
B) Check the news from home first.

You of course lead the troops to glory!

Congratulations! Emperor Cyl I embarks on yet another military campaign!

Summer, 1135 AD

Your Army deploys and advances into Eval, destroying few road patrols in three days' time.

But finally it seems that your Army will be engaging in a field battle. About thousand strong of militia and light horsemen are approaching from southeast. Your officers chuckle; your Army numbers more than ten thousand at the moment, with heavy cavalry and Thundercats.

A) They're plotting something. We should avoid engagement.
B) Just move toward the capital, such a small force won't dare attack us.
C) After them! We shall crush them into fine paste!

7881
You decide to invade Duchy of Eval!

The Marshal stands up.

"As the Emperor, you will lead us to glory and victory, isn't that right?"

A) "VERILYYYYYY!"
B) "Apologies, I have stuff to do at the capital!"

You issue your first edict - Establish Fireblood Court, to get those alchemists and engineers (and their budgeting) organized. Your courtiers inform you that because there's no local supply of Fireblood ingredients, the Court will have require higher expenses, which are currently easily covered by the yearly household tax.

As your Authority is strongest as it is, there will be no delays nor anything bad occuring due to your decision.

Next you have to discuss the attempted assassination by son of Duke of Eval, Targald. You decide to...

A) Demand a huge compensation in return for your forgiveness.
B) Invade the Duchy of Eval to punish the land, the peoples, and their foolish leaders.
C) Send a letter, asking Duke of Eval for a formal apology.

Three remaining Coats of Arms, for the far-western State of Prawlant, Duchy of Tavlak and Republic of Calvendocia!

Bureaucratic edicts will allow you to change government, from despotism/absolutism to constitutional or even matriarchal monarchy if it won't explode beforehand v;

Heck, with enough tinkering you can turn the administrative hierarchy prevalent in the region since ancient times right into proper european feudalism.

The envoy looks appalled, indeed, disgusted by your demand.

"I will rely your generous offer to King Dangarm, of course." He bows politely and leaves.

By the afternoon, it is time to issue your first Imperial Edict!

Imperial Authority determines how well your people will react to your Edicts and whether there will be any opposition to it. It can go from -2 to +2. To raise your Authority, you need to keep high ratings of Kingdom stats; conversely, having them low at end of a year might lower your Authority. Same goes for wars; victorious wars will increase your Authority, losing them will lower it, and [insert your preferred religious entity here] forbid if you lose territories!

Your Imperial Authority at the moment: +2

Here is the list of all possible Edicts at the moment:

MILITARY EDICTS:

Matters of military hierarchy, philosophy of war and development of military tech.

Establish the Fireblood Court:
Creation of a specialized military branch devoted purely to development of Fireblood arms to ensure they are aplenty and of best designs around. This will allow to centralize the production, research and budgeting of Fireblood weaponry rather than having some errant alchemists and engineers running around, trying to make things happen.

Issue the Codex of Training Regimen:
A set of efficient (and slightly draconian) requirements and practices of training to ensure that the Army gets only the best recruits of them all. This will make the Army much better in combat, although there might be a problem to fill yearly recruitment quotas sometimes.

BUREAUCRATIC EDICTS:

Matters of administration and government.

Establish The Council of Statesmen:
Creation of a small council of governmental officials who will be tasked with helping the government run smoother alongside traditional advisors, and, of course, the monarch himself. This will help strengthen the Imperial Authority, even in dire times, and help pass edicts quicker, although giving even more political power away from the throne than in the past might become a source of troubles one day.

Expand Primogeniture Law:
A string of bad luck can render a monarch without a male heir or cause succession debates. Rather than risk some unpleasant consequences of such a situation, it might be better to allow a skilled female to ascend to the throne, especially if she is as good at matters of the governance as any other ruler.

Establish Passage Tax:
All those travelers, adventurers, merchants and others are moving through the country for free! Let's establish a tax for those entering and leaving our country - this will earn us nice profits each year, although it might slow down immigration and convince some merchants to seek passage through elsewhere.

CULTURAL EDICTS:

Matters of religion, culture and art.

Proclaim Religious Equality:
Travelers, merchants, immigrants; they all bring new beliefs and philosophies into the country. Rather than fight those foreign influences, it might be best to allow all peoples free worship on equal level no matter the size and beliefs of the congregation, to help all different worshippers achieve a certain degree to harmony and peace.

Establish Calendar of Festivities:
Rather than throw a festival every few years to celebrate a bontiful harvest, let's instead establish a cyclic and stable calendar of state-sponsored festivities for the whole year. This will cause a drain on the Treasury, but hey - people love festivals!

REVOKE EDICT: Revokes a previously implemented edict, either to cut spending, appease some disgruntled subjects, or both. On the other hand, it might tick off some other peoples, potentially causing a deadly cascade of discontent. (Impossible, no Edicts have been issued yet.)

Not your turn, which reminds me I forgot to write whose turn it is, so that's fixed.
