You grant him money he requested, as well as ten guards He leaves, continuously bowing his head at your majesty and generosity.

Finally, you meet with the merchant.

"Greetings, King Cyl! I am Taun, merchants of fine furs, perfumes and gemstones. I have recently visited the gem mines your Majesty owns and I will be honest, it pains my heart that these gemstones are sold locally!"

"What do you mean?" The merchant claps his hands.

"I have many clients in the north, in Dahnia and Helliste and even Albion, who would pay well for these splendorous gems your subjects mine in the south. So I offer a deal; the gemstones end in my hands, and I sell them in the north, and we split profits. Say, a third for his Majesty, and two thirds for me, as to cover my expenses and such." The merchants smiles greedily while rubbing his hands.

A) "Tis a scam! To dungeon with you!"
B) "Fine, we will hand over the gemstone mines to you, Taun."
C) "Do tell me about your many clients, I'm intrigued."
D) "That isn't exactly a fair offer! How about 50/50 instead?"

You ask him to tell you about his research and hunt for the lost tombs.

Quote
5*

You don't tell him that you recently spoke with one of your courtiers about these mines tombs and he had done some research too. The story of the scholar thus checks out, and you see no lie in his talk. Unless he is a master at deceit, this man is trustworthy.

A) I won't sponsor him though.
B) Fine, he shall have the funds.

You decide to listen to the scholar next.

The tall, pudgy man wears robes of Alldivines but without any clerical insignia on him. He bows deeply and claps his hands.

"Good King Cyl, I bring news of tremendous importance for culture of our nation! After many, many years of studying ancient tomes and buying information from adventurers and noblemen alike, I believe I have found the ancient tomb of Kings of Tygwand Dynasty!" Your courtiers murmur excitedly; before the old Kingdom of Luathbas, there was few tyrants, before them, a very successful dynasty of five kings, whose remains were laid to rest in a family tomb with lots of riches - or so the tale goes. The tomb was never found and many believe it to be a fairy tale.

"Alas, I have little money to fund an expedition to unearth the fabled royal graves."

"So you want money." The Advisor speaks, and the fat man claps his hands.

"Of course, and some supplies, and a few guards won't hurt either. As for the tombs, I will be satisfied with just few items, and the rest will go into the glorious hands of His Majesty of course."

A) "Grave-digging disgusts me! To the dungeon with you!"
B) "Fine, you will have the money, and supplies, and guards - go and find the tombs for me!"
C) "This is exciting to hear! Tell me more about your research, and details behind your hunt for the tomb, please!"

You decide to marry off Leath to a proper girl this time. The diplomat leaves, and later you learn that Leath was indifferent to the news.

Back to the present however, two more audiences remain!

A) Northern merchant next please.
B) Archeology scholar next please.

You agree for the exchange of lands and marrying of kids.

"Splendid! The daughter of King Shapur is named Abis, and she is of nineteen summers. She dances, sings and clothes like the most beautiful of songbirds in the world. Do tell, good King Cyl, which of your sons you wish to see as her husband?"

A) "Leath!"
B) "Ustwelf!"
C) "Houlandin!"
D) "Connan, when he grows up."

The Parsian envoy is let in first.

"Greetings, King Cyl of Methiant! I am Babab Hahalol, and I bring an offer from my glorious master, King Shapur! In his magnificent studies of old maps and ancient tomes of knowledge, he has found out that the lands in the very south of Ceodwell are rightfully Parsian." The courtiers grumble and murmur aloud but the envoy doesn't stop speaking.

"Therefore, my lord and master, King Shapur, in his magnanimity, offers a trade and a marriage deal to perhaps convince you! He understands that the main point of resistance to his offer would be the highly profitable gold mines. Therefore, for next twenty years, half of the profits from these excellent mines would be sent to your coffers, before the ownership would fully fall into Parsian hands."

"In exchange, King Shapur is ready to give away the settlements and glassworks located at the border, near the Minirok Mountains, the southern of mountain ranges in Parsian west, as well as give away the hand of his eldest daughter to one of your many prince-sons, as he has learned most of them are adult or almost adult and would soon be looking for a viable bride." The trade-off is evident even without your trade advisor chiming in; gold mines produce direct profits, while quality glasswork requires finding a buyer - on other hand, access to such luxuries could strengthen people's belief in the dynasty, plus family ties with Parsia could also be beneficial in a long run...

A) That is a fine offer, and I agree!
B) How about something little extra on top?
C) These lands are rightfully ours and I won't sell them!

You have Utvak executed. Per traditional ceremonial way of executing foreign nobility in Methiant, he is thrown into the moat with chain&ball around his neck.

Marriage between Leath and Ysa is annulled and the crying woman and her toddler are kicked out of the palace by a pair of guards.

Leath is obviously non-plussed about that, but after some talking he begrudingly accepts that being lenient with Ysa would only allow her to try worse and more scandalizing things in the future.

1133 AD, Summer

For some reason this particular, hot summer day has been choosen by not one but three visiting personas to knock at your gates. One of them is a merchant of some renown, dealing in fabrics and perfume from the north; the other is a scholar who has a proposal to the Crown (something about a ruined castle or some such), and the third is an envoy from the Kash- err, Parsia. First to get an audience will be...

A) The Parsian.
B) The Scholar.
C) The Merchant.

You decide to send the Army east and have the local fortresses polished for eventual aggression from the Parsians.

1132 AD, End of the Year

Per usual, the Advisor comes in to your room, and you can check on Scrolls of Kingdom Status once more.

Happiness: 5
Population: 8
Economy: 5
Army: 7

Those are fine numbers.

1133 AD, Spring

Scandal in the palace!

Ysa, the commoner wife of your son and heir Leath, pregnant with his second child, has been caught with Utvak of Agaresians in his cell, doing blatantly perverse things. Already the nobility is both disgusted and enraged, equally blaming you, your heir, his wife and some other people for letting this to occur in the first place ('a proper lady wouldn't sleep around with barbarians!', they say). Leath is equally infuriated, if not more.

Ysa claims that she wasn't 'self' when he seduced her, while Utvak only responded with mocking laughter and words 'finally there is feisty woman in this kingdom.'

Your prestige and reputation has been compromised, so mayhaps you should try to maintain some degree of face here?

As for Ysa...

A) Ask the priests to annul her marriage with Leath and remove her children from dynastic line, then kick her outta the palace.
B) Ask the priests to annul her marriage with Leath and remove her children from dynastic line, then exile her from Kingdom of Methiant forever.
C) Ask the priests to annul her marriage with Leath and remove her children from dynastic line, then execute her.
D) Forgive her this little tryst, surely the wicked barbarian from the east must've hypnotized her!

As for Prince Utvak...

A) Execute him.
B) Ransom him so finally you get rid of his presence.
C) Forgive him, as surely the wretched commoner girl is the one who tried to get into his pants first!
