You decide to give some monet to the peasants so they won't go hungry by the end of the year.

1126 AD, Midsummer

Some of the northern governors are complaining - about Hurthlings, apparently.

According to some reports, teh Hurthlings has been found passing through the border for who knows what business. Most if nto all attempts at shooing them off resulted in verbal or physical scuffles. So far, eleven peoples have been wounded by the little peoples.

A) This won't stand! Time for the big Army to stomp the little peoples!
B) We ought to send a delegation to the Hurthlings and remind them to be nice, or else.
C) Not my problem really, the Hurthlings will go away on their own I'm sure.

You decide to not get involved this time as well.

1126 AD, Summer

Torrential rains and cold wind has had profound effect on Methiantese farmlands this year. Even now, farmers lament their losses as many a blooming field has been destroyed, promising naught but empty baskets and bags during this year's harvests. Some governors and village elders turn to the Crown, hoping to receive funding to buy grain for the coming winter.

A) Duh, of course I will help.
B) Sorry, ain't got money for this.

You agree to increase the Army budget, so it becomes even larger and powerful of an institution.

1126 AD, Spring

News arrive from the east; apparently, Ansbach the Pretender has captured the capital of Ceodwell! Calahan III fled along with his court, but rumors have it he has procured thousands of Gubta troops as mercenaries to help him regain control over the country.

Some of your courtiers wonder aloud if this isn't an opportunity for Methiant.

A) Sure thing, we will invade Ceodwell and conquer it ourselves!
B) Sure thing, let's help Ansbach with some money.
C) Naw, let's keep ourselves out of this mess.

You decide to send a messenger to King Talon to inform him that you will visit his palace to attend the funeral feast, taking your courtiers and family with you.

One week later

You got just in time for the first day of funeral rites.

As the time flies and Queen Dogethe's reign is remembered and praised, you manage to have few discussions with King Talon, a balding man in his mid-thirties. Just as described, he has a dry wit and seems to have no love for pleasantries, etiquette and long talk. All you got out of him was that he hopes that Methiant will be 'a proper and amicable neighbour'. You weren't able to even interest him in any sort of deal or treaty.

Your courtiers had much more luck with the nobles of King Talon's court.

You learn that the current heir of Talon is a twelve years old boy named Cidric. A rash youth with big heart, great skill with weapons and, unfortunately, not very bright mind. Some rumors go around that not every of his uncles and cousins views him as a proper successor to the throne, even.

Also, you learn that not everything is well in Cydwyl, as northern peoples rather frequently in the past decade has been rising up with riots and rebellions, almost year by year tying up resources and men that Queen Dogethe wished to allocate elsewhere. One can easily assume her death will only fuel the northerners' rebellious spirit.

Also also, you learn that recently the eastern colonies and settlements has been once again in trouble with the Agaresians. While nothing major happened so far, some travelers and homesteads were harassed by Agaresian lizard riders.

A week later, you, your courtiers and family depart for home.

1125 AD, Winter

Quote
1to5

Alas, this year the metal mines have brought less profits than previously. The market must be satured or something.

Silver and gemstones arrive to stuff your Treasury though, pleasing the Treasurer.

1125 AD, Midwinter

The economical prosperity of Methiant in recent years has spurred traders from near and far to cross their country on their way to Eldrican, Cydwyl, Kashite and Lametania, the stability in the country and safety on the roads surely contributing to that.

1125 AD, End of the Year

The Advisor seems particularily happy when he walks into your study with Scrolls of Kingdom Status, and you soon learn why:

Happiness: 6
Population: 8
Economy: 7
Army: 7

Your wife, seated besides you, sighs from excitement.

"My liege, while our country grows, the officers and the Marshal concluded that we ought to take advantage of our booming economy and expand the budget of the Army. While it is well maintained, it only allows for mediocre amount of soldiers. Greater spending would allow for more men, horses and garrisons to be kept around the sundial."

A) "Agree, let's expand the military budget, for the glory of Methiant!"
B) "Just because we're rich now doesn't mean we will be rich tomorrow."

You reject the deal and the envoys leave unhappy.

1125 AD, Mid-Autumn

Lamentation and cries of the peoples of Cydwyl reach the ears of your courtiers all the time these days. The iron lady, Queen Dogethe of Cydwyl, has died in her sleep, after reaching venerable age of seventy. Her armies were almost always triumphant and her peoples were almost always proud and happy of her rule. The throne of Cydwyl has passed to eldest of her currently living sons, Talon, a man of superb administrative skills and absolute lack of charisma.

A) Such a tragedy, we ought to send a delegation of mourners right away!
B) A letter of condolences for King Talon is in order.
C) This is terrible news! I ought to visit capital of Cydwyl with my family and courtiers!

You decide to ignore Ceodwellian war.

Few days later, the caravan from the west arrives, brining ketton cloth.

Quote

Craftsmen and noblemen clear the supply of ketton cloth within days, paying absurd prices for being able to wear the fabrics. It made them much happier and willing to go with your shenanigans, too.

Some courtiers also managed to ask about war situation against the Tirines. Apparently, not only Elran III got everything under control, a counter-offensive has the Tirine forces crumble day by day.

1125 AD, Autumn

A group of Kashite representatives arrive at your court! The gaudily clad men with sharp beards and steely eyes bow before your throne.

"Greetings, King Cyl of Methiant! Our master, King Shashanban, has always been looking with envy towards the mighty devices that spit out fire and iron death. He wishes to acquire these weapons from you, and therefore offers Kashite gold. An exchange would happen every two years."

You decide to...

A) Reject the trade offer.
B) Attempt to negotiate the deal.
C) Accept the deal.

You accept the clothes; the cloaks and the metal tunic. The elves bow and pack up the remaining three chests, while the two others are given to you.

This Lakemetal Tunic feels cozy, and if this thread is indeed metal, it must be magic, because it is as soft as fur.

The elves thank you once more and then leave. Later you learn that after they disappeared into the Royal Forest, nobody saw them again, and the search in the forest gave up nothing. Huh.

1125 AD, Summer

You receive a report from the silver mines; they have been drained out, the flooding compartment was sealed and miners begun digging in opposite direction from the river site.

1125 AD, Midsummer

You hear that Calahan III is in deep trouble; someone from other side of his family tree, a staunch 'westerner', called Ansbach, has gathered support of Ceodwell nobles, bought some mercenary troops, and waged a war to topple Calahan III and take his place upon the throne of Methiant Ceodwell.

Once you speak with the Advisor and the Spymaster you decide to...

A) Ignore this Ceodwellian uprising thing.
B) Send a letter to Calahan, offering your Army's services (for proper pay, of course)
C) Arrange some money and supplies to be sent to this Ansbach rebel.

A string of expletives left Ethan's mouth.

"It's that bounty hunter woman again, with Zeekonrik ships! What is going on here... Prepare for boarding guys!"

Hold to avoid becoming PM.

8140
"Two ships? Right out the port? Kinda strange if you ask me." Ethan put the spyglass to his eye and tried to spy the flags, if any, or check on the peoples on the deck for armor and markings too.

He then raises the scepter to the ceiling and then points it to the floor.

"Greetings, human monarch. I, Tesofili, speak with authority of Queen Estomelolilelo. The news of the destruction of the dwarven fortress of Thrice-Gilded has reached our ears, and we're most grateful that expansion of dwarf has been slowed. You didn't only stop expansion, you also destroyed one of their fabled wall cities, something none of you humans did for centuries."

The elves behind him move to the front and place five chests on the stone floor. First chest is opened and contains tightly packed cloaks made of dark green fiber.

"Thes are moonthread cloaks, fifty of them to be exact. They allow the wearer to become almost invisible amongst trees or in darkness." When did the Spymaster approach your throne? You didn't call him, but look at him, all happy. Strange guy.

The second chest is opened, and it contains a beige nut or seed as large as a fist of a child.

"This is the seed of the Leloli tree. If you plant it in your courtyard, and allow it to grow, the tree will protect the dwellers of this keep from illness and terrible wounds."

The third chest is opened, and it contains a simple, bright green tunic, criss-crossed with silvery thread.

"This is the tunic strengthened with lakemetal threads. Naught but strongest of blows can penetrate the cloth stitched this way, and dwarven magickery is all but repelled by it."

The fourth chest is opened, and it contains a cage with large lizard with triangular jaws and fur, of a lovely steely-blueish coloration.

"This is a Se'gal, a pet that is as vicious as it is loyal, fast and smart. We use them for hunting prey amongst the woods, or as pets, and there has been instances of them mauling down assassins during their owner's sleep."

The fifth chest is opened, and it contains, unsurprisingly, a large pile of various gemstones, mostly of opaque and semi-ornamental type, although Treasurer has hurried to your side to inform you that he spies some emeralds and peridots amongst the pile.

"Gemstones, all of them valuable and beautiful."

Tesofili clasps his hands together.

"You have done two good deeds, and therefore Queen Estomelolilelo wishes to grant you two rewards. Tell us, King, what is of interest for you."

As for the first reward...

A) Fifty Moonthread cloaks.
B) Seed of Leloli tree.
C) Lakemetal Thread tunic.
D) Se'gal fur-lizard.
E) Lovely gemstones.

As for the second reward...

A) Fifty Moonthread cloaks.
B) Seed of Leloli tree.
C) Lakemetal Thread tunic.
D) Se'gal fur-lizard.
E) Lovely gemstones.

//In this particular voting please remember you cannot pick the same choice twice.

You decide to keep taxes on their normal level.

1125 AD, Spring

The guards, nay, the whole of courtyard is in state of awe, terror and surprise, because elves has come!

Your courtiers do not believe the guard who brought the message, until six slender figures with bright hair, flowing white robes and pointy ears step through the gates. Only the elf at the front comes empty handed; the rest has small gilded boxes in their hands.

The elf pulls out a small scepter with a blue gemstone on top from within his robe and points it at you.

A) Assassin! It's a magic weapon! Get him guards!
B) Surely must be some sort of greeting gesture.

You send some money to help restore the mines.

1124 AD, Mid-Autumn

Your letter to the nobleman's son did help; the priests report that the youth returned the money and apologized for his behavior, and the cult has decided to forgive him and even give him a blessing.

1124 AD, Winter

Unfortunately, the overseer of the mines didn't manage to get them drained and thus no silver ore was sent to the Treasury this year.

Quote

For another year, the metals mined in the east were sold for much higher profit than expected.

Gemstones arrive as well, adding to more wealth to your Treasury.

1124 AD, Midwinter

You receive a report from scholars who were once told to study the old tomb found near the mines. They've opened it and catalogued all that was inside; rotten cloth, old skeletons and silver jewelry. They've positively identified the tomb as the Lost Tomb of Augavath, a king of this region from the 6th century; while all his predecessors and successors' tombs were found and plundered shortly after fall of the dynasty, Augavath's tomb wasn't found. Until now.

The scholars thank you for this once-per-lifetime opportunity, although you get nothing else out of it. Oh well.

1124 AD, End of the Year

End of the year, and thus Advisor pops in your chamber with Scrolls of Kingdom Status.

Happiness: 5
Population: 8
Economy: 3
Army: 6

Dat 3.

"Shall we raise tha tax to replenish our Treasury a bit?" You decide to...

A) Raise the taxes for a year.
B) Don't raise taxes.

The final topic shall be Philosophical debate between Theists (Singularism, Pantheonism) and Ietsists (Alldivinism, Enyntheism).

Quote
2*

Your concerns were well founded! Everything hase devolved into a huge argument after less than an hour; the mythology of Pantheon cannot be harmonized with the philosophical approach of Alldivinism, and the mono- and poly-theist nuances are too far apart for Singularists and Pantheonists to find some common ground. The discussion about divinity of entities and existences of divinities almost ends in a shouting contest.

Soon, the divide between theistic and ietsist religions grows, and you feel an intervention is needed.

Quote

You are able to calm down the arguing priests a little bit, although you can swear you heard some priests in the back say things like 'why does the King talk about what he does not understand?'.

Quote
4*

Alas, the calm didn't help that much. At least they decided to lower their voices. The debates continued well into the next day when everyone felt too tired to continue. No unity has been found between the two opposing camps of theological thought, although many of the delegates continue to discuss the topics with their colleagues as everyone packs up and prepares for their journeys back to their congregations.

You, too, need to return to the palace. While you succeeded in ensuring that Enyntheism will be treated well, you feel that overall the Council was a minor failure. Maybe next time (if there will be one), someone wiser or more charismatic is ought to lead the proceedings?

1124 AD, Summer

Your wife gives birth to a child! Whilst unplanned, the young boy she names 'Iwald' is welcomed into family with great joy.

Few days later, the ketton cloth merchants arrive.

Quote
6

Your representatives are able to score profit on the cloth! Either the demand grew or the people are more willing to try new things.

Craftsmen and noblemen alike praise the high quality of the cloth, and part of the praise goes to you and your court for securing this trade deal.

1124 AD, Autumn

Disaster at the silver mines!

The miners, in search for new pockets of ore to keep the output at maximum, has had the unfortunate distinction of hitting an underground river. Several miners drowned and numerous tunnels have been flooded with water. The overseer of the mines asks in his report for money so that he can quicken the restoration of the mines.

A) But of course, those mines are of utmost priority for our economy!
B) Unfortunately I've spent money this year; he needs to do with what he has.

Reconcilliation of Enyntheist Heresy with the Alldivine Faith, that's the next topic.

Quote
5*

While the faiths remain apart, they manage to find a common ground of sorts. The fact that you talked with Enyn and decided against putting his cult upon any sort of black list probably helped the Alldivine hardline approach melt slightly.

After two days of debates, during which the Singularists also chime in with few remarks, the Alldivine clergy relents and finally accepts Enyntheism as a fellow cult rather than a rebellious heresy of their own. Phew!

At the start of the ten-day period of the month, the Council again meets, the wise scholars and young progressives seated amongst themselves. Your role as a host will soon be over, because there's only one topic left:

A) Philosophical debate between Theists (Singularism, Pantheonism) and Ietsists (Alldivinism, Enyntheism).

No one will of course protest if you decide that...

B) The Council shall end as all interesting topics have been covered.
