You decide to appease the dwarves and proclaim that looting dwarven settlements during this time of crisis will be punished.

1116 AD, Summer

You Army sent north comes back with money! They also bring a letter from the grateful Queen Dogethe, who, while not needing your soldiers' at the front, felt much more stronger having someone to protect the heart of her nation. She reached an agreement with the Agaresians, which secured the Cydwyllian colonies in the east and got the Agaresians to look south rather than west.

Few days later you receive an envoy from Lametania.

"Greetings, good king Cyl. My master, King Umar, has sent me here with an inquiry - are you interested in again providing us with protection of your Armies? Our skilled miners have recently found wealthy copper deposits, which we can send to you, if you will not accept hard cash of course."

A) "Sorry, not interested this time."
B) "Trifle copper? You must be joking. I want more than that!"
C) "Sure, money for protection, that works."
D) "Sure, copper and its crafts in exchange for my soldiers."

You tell your name.

The raven opens its beak again.

"Cyl of Methiant, look to the east, and may your metal fist reign supreme. Look to the west, and you shall remain blind till your violent death. So speaketh the spirit of the woods, feeling remorse for causing your land grief and suffering." With a rather scary caw, the raven flies into the night - and disappears from your sight altogether.

When you wake up next morning after sleeping on this, the talking raven feels more like a thing from dreams. Maybe it was just a dream after all?

1116 AD, Late Spring

News come from Zasitost; the dwarves have defeated whatever monstrosity they were fighting against, but the fortified city is mostly empty and ruined buildings aren't repaired. Some brave (or stupid) adventurers and even some wandering subjects of yours have taken upon this opportunity to loot some of dwarven crafts.

It is then not a surprise that a letter from Zasitost arrives, its dwarven overlords demanding that you reign your subjects in, or the dwarves will ask for compensation.

A) Dwarves are our friends, so we will compensate them and scold our subjects, yes.
B) Looting? Somebody said looting? Count me in!
C) Fine, we will warn our subjects to leave dwarves alone, but dwarves better not count for anything else.
D) Pffft, I have better things to do than dealing with some pompous dwarves!

You decide to stand still and silent.

The raven caws at you and you could swear it did that with certain degree of irritation. It also feels a bit darker around it. And is the raven larger than a moment before??

A) Tell your name aloud.
B) Run away to safety.

You decide to not overspend yet.

Fortunately, many cities organized festivals on their own (either from own savings or by asking wealthy citizens for donations), and thus there was no discontent in Methiant. Phew.

1116 AD, Mid-Spring

It is one of colder nights when you decide to take a walk to the higher floors of the palace, ultimately ending on one of the towers with splendid view on the Capital city to the side and the majestic lake to the other, that flanks the royal forest.

It is after a long moment of gazing that you see, out of all the birds, a raven fly to the balcony and silently perch on one of the cranellations. It opens its beak and you expect a caw, but...

"Cyl... Cyl of Methiant..." It whispers in most hissy voice possible.

A) It calls for me! I ought to introduce myself!
B) Let's Stand Still, Stay Silent.
C) Run the fuck away, tis another of magical murder beasts!!

You decide to raise the tax.

1116 AD, Spring

The people rejoice! It seems that, according to the news from northern travelers, the remainder of Smoke Mountain finally stopped billowing out dust and smoke.

Some governors ponder if it is a good time to celebrate with some festivities to commemorate the passing of the Red Sky. Of course, they would like the Crown to sponsor them.

A) They should be glad that the catastrophe has passed.
B) Of course! Let's throw some parties, yaay!

You make the Spymaster keep a lid on this while you write a letter to Queen Dogethe; one of Spymaster's agents is sent rather than a normal courier, just in case.

1115 AD, End of the Year

As the skies continue to be reddish and dark, the time goes by and the yearly rituals must be maintained. For example, the yearly ritual of the Advisor coming by to your chambers, with Scrolls of Kingdom Status in his hands.

Happiness: 4
Population: 7
Economy: 2
Army: 5

"I must inform you, my liege, that our Treasury has been drained by our continuous procurement of supplies so our peoples can survive the winter. And the censuses seem to indicate that most of refugees have decided to settle down in Methiant after all."

"Still we, ought to repair our Treasury a little bit. Shall we raise the taxes?"

A) "Absolutely yes!"
B) "Absolutely no."

You decide that the Military gets priority, and thus the Treasurer is informed to allocate funds for renovation of garrisons and keeps along the eastern trade routes.

Summer, 255 REE

There is a slight debacle between diplomats of the Republic; it seems that current Shotan of Anataya, Aymak V, is willing to sponsor construction of the Shotan temples in the port cities of the Republic, but there is slight opposition from more of more human-inclined council members. They turn to you, as always, to provide the final and decisive vote for this dispute.

The practices of Shotan religion include glorified slavery, religious sacrifices and self-mutilation, which is the point of contention, as no other religion is plain barbaric as the Shotan.

A) We would be hypocrites if we would preach tolerance and progressivity and then reject a cult simply because it is so different than others. And Aymak V is sponsoring them from his own pockets, that's even better for us.
B) There is tolerance, and there is allowing a barbaric religion upset the stomachs and hearts of the elegant and civilized peoples of the Republic. The Shotan won't have his temples here, sorry!

Please tell me the Royal Physician didn't go to the same college as the Spymaster.

Eyyy boi, this going into my sig.

You decide to pester various food merchants for grain and other everyday supplies.

After some time, your cash fills the pockets of traders while their grain and herbs fill your keeps and storages.

1115 AD, Late Winter

The Spymaster bumps into you at dark, cold night.

"Greetings, my liege. I bring an offer from some of your noblemen."

"Why do my nobles need my Spymaster to speak business with me?"

"It is their request which I felt proper to fulfill. They have friends in the lands conquered by Queen Dogethe and, to be honest, those friends of our noblemen aren't quite happy with Dogethe's iron-fisted rule. They dream of independence but that probably won't happen, so at least a change of ruler would do, and it happens that their holdings are right at the border, just north of Tven mountains. Your courtiers thus wonder if the Crown would sponsor some... trouble in the north."

A) Subterfuge, aw yiss. They have my monies and my support!
B) Nah, not interested, there's enough chaos in the region without rebellions.
C) Queen Dogethe is struggling and her noblemen wish to abandon her at first sight of trouble? I ought to inform her!
D) That sounds fine with me but I'm not going to anger the iron lady outright; I can give them support on a later date.

You decide to get some painkillers for yourself. And your wife too, of course.

1115 AD, Winter

Delayed due to civil war and current issues, the Fireblood caravan nonetheless managed to arrive at your Palace, and so did silver from the mountains in northwest.

1115 AD, Midwinter

Your wife Esta gives birth to twin boys! All of the palace celebrate this rare event. The exhausted yet proud mother calls them 'Leath' and 'Tywynn',

Unfortunately it is time for the bad news. The supplies stockpiled earlier in the year will be inadequate; the influx of migrants have caused the storages to be emptied at much higher rate. Your peoples, and the migrants, might face starvation in the Spring if new supplies will not be procured.

A) Time to ask neighbouring nations to provide help!
B) Find those grain merchants again, I have more money to spend!
C) Alas, we will perservere through sheer willpower and strength of heart!

You decide to search for a wizard, and the healer concurs; truly one is most needed now!

When you duck the silver goblet thrown by your wife, you realize that it wasn't the best idea maybe.

"I don't need a Wizard!" Your wife screams as two maidens try the hot compresses and painkiller tinctures. "I need some blackseed milk!" You decide to get to the kitchen yourself so the maids can care for Esta, but...

A) It's obvious she has been possessed by forces most evil! My beautiful, calm and quiet Esta couldn't be on her own such fiery tempered and angry creature! Truly, it's time to call up some Pantheonist exorcists.
B) It's obvious that it is just a hard pregnancy. No need to panic. NO NEED TO PANIC! Maybe I should get some blackseed milk for myself, too.

By the will of the council, Jarre Petrin becomes the next Chancellor of Jaro! May his reign be prosperous!

The fabled Numerical Tablet is brought to you to see:

Happiness: 5
Population: 7
Economy: 5
Army: 5
Navy: 3

Such good numbers, these are.

Mid-Spring, 255 REE

Shortly into your reign you will have to deal with factional issue!

It is about the proposed renovation of road network in the east of Jaro. The Treasury does not wish to sponsor more than one project, and both Bureaucrats and the Military have different ideas on mind; the Bureaucrats wish to invigorate some villages along the roads with much needed expansion, forest-clearing and such, while the Military wants to expand on local garrisons that house the road patrols.

A) Of course the security gets priority! Sorry Bureaucrats, but we need better safety on the roads.
B) If they cannot compromise, then the Treasury won't be sponsoring either of the factions!
C) -

You decide to send your Army north to Kingdom of Cydwyl to help Queen Dogethe deal with the invaders from the east.

1115 AD, Late Autumn

There's a reply to your letter from the dwarves. It was written by the leader of Zasitost, and your courtiers say that only in most important matters do dwarven aristocrats reply personally rather than via envoys and messengers.

In the letter, the leader of Zasitost, one Vabuk Kobalak, says that they can deal with the emergency occuring in their fortress and that your assistance is not required at the moment.

Few days later you receive a report from your Army; Queen Dogethe has delegated it to guarding the core lands of the Kingdom while Cydwyl soldiers are battling Agaresians on the frontlines.

The same evening, one of the palace healers meets with you.

"My liege, I bring ill news about your wife's pregnancy. The child inside Queen Esta is either very large or some evil tumor has formed in the womb! Just a moment ago we helped the Queen through a bout of pains. Wise heads speak that many such painful pregnancies occured this year; surely it's an omen, a terrible curse!"

A) "Stop with those superstitions and take care of my wife properly, or else you shall suffer my wrath!"
B) "Evil tumor!? Send donations to the altars immediately, I do not wish to be a father to demonspawn!"
C) "Anybody but her! Announce a search for a Wizard, the curse must be lifted from my dearest wife!

You decide to write a letter of assistance to the dwarves, but first, the envoy from Queen Dogethe!

"Greetings, King Cyl, I bring urgent request from Queen Dogethe. The vile easterners, the Agaresians, have begun a campaign against our colonies in the Wildlands. From some captured invaders we have learned that apparently the eruption of Smoking Mountain was the confirmation of their faith's mythology that their current leader is incarnation of some of their god of conquest or some such, and thus the Agaresians will become rulers of the world. Queen Dogethe asks that you provide any help; she promises to reward you greatly in return, of course after our peoples deal with this avalanche of catastrophes." You decide to...

A) Send your Army to Cydwyl so that they fight the Agaresians alongside Dogethe's men.
B) Send as much supplies and money as Treasury allows to help thwart this invasion.
C) Send some money, but not much, as your Kingdom isn't entirely in best shape either.
D) Turn the envoy away; Queen Dogethe is on her own this time!

You let the army messenger in.

"My liege! Our officers have managed to, well, question some of the fleeing dwarves. It appears that they have, or the calamity of Smoking Mountain have, awoken up some underground force of evil that was sleeping deep within the earth. Their military and runemasters have had hard time containing the beast and more and more of underground levels of Zasitost Fortress are being lost, so preemptively the dwarves are sending their civilians away before the 'sealing' ritual is to take place." Your courtiers ask you for a course of action, as an underground evil is nothing to sneer at!

A) But that is dwarves' problem, not ours. Just keep on observing Zasitost, at least for now.
B) Time to preemptively hire some lvl40+ adventurers!
C) Time to send a letter to the dwarves, offering our assistance.
D) Time to send our Army to help the dwarves, no matter if their pride allows it or not.
E) Time to find a Wizard?
