You have the money sent to them.

1110 AD, Autumn

Lately, the summer days have been awfully hot and dry in these parts, but the farmlands in your country has been refreshed occassionally by just-in-time rains, obviously the work of the Scepter, its lime glow once again reported by the vault's guards.

Few days later you receive a report from the alchemists; they have resumed work on Thundercats and other Fireblood inventions.

1110 AD, End of the Year

And just like that, the year comes and goes. The new year's eve is at hand, and that means that the Advisor- ah, here he is, the long and mystical Scrolls of Kingdom Status occupying his hands fully.

Happiness: 5
Population: 6
Economy: 3
Army: 5

You rub your chin in thought.

"As you can of course notice, your Majesty, we're a bit short on the money. Shall we raise the taxes thorough the Kingdom to accumulate some wealth just in case?"

A) "Yes, we gotta do that, who knows what our expenses can be next year."
B) "Nah, the peasants might not like it, plus our new silver mine will soon provide us with money anyways."

You decide to run left, your dignity failing and your high-pitched screams probably waking up whole of palace.

Quote

Be it adrenaline, luck or good memory, you do end up in the mess hall. Even better, the afternoon shift of guards has just finished and corwded the mess hall. They look at you confused as you run between tables, almost tumbling over the chairs, but once the lobster-alien-maid-beast bursts through the door, the crowd begins to use what they have at hand. Some are able to draw bows and crossbows, but others simple throw their swords, hatchets and even nearby knives, mugs and other objects at the beast.

The terrifying monster bites some poor sod's face off, and three other are sliced up by the frontal scythe-limbs of the beast, and the battle continues as you huggle the hall's corner.

But some lucky potshots slow it down, wounds pile up on its carapace, and then, in one moment, one brave man jumps onto a table to match the beast's height and smashes his trusty axe into the monster's head!

You don't get to congratulate the hero of the day as the dying monster releases, along with an ear-piercing, haunting shriek, a burst of acidic blood that melts the man's face off and kills him seconds later later.

Few days later...

All in all, there has been fourteen casualties, including seven dead. A cursory investigation into his horrifying, bizarre attack reveals that the poor maid that became the monster has been complaining of fever as early as the midnight right after the shower of falling stars. She later complained to one of fellow maids that she felt 'as if I swallowed a fly'.

Your best scholars, astrologists and worldly courtiers will try to find the cause of this... terror from the other world.

1109 AD, Midwinter

A report arrives from northern governors; no more Hurthlings are in Methiant, and the security on the border with Tiftits has been strenghtened to ensure none of these deplorable little bastards stir up trouble again.

1109 AD, End of the Year

You contemplate your fine cotton robes while leisurely sipping on some mulled wine, in one of your favorite chambers that has a fireplace. The time of leisure is up, becomes the Advisor brings the Scrolls of Kingdom Status to your room.

Happiness: 5
Population: 7
Economy: 5
Army: 3

You tap on the chair's arm. You need to work those numbers up somehow.

1110 AD, Spring

Your military officers, now clad in scale mail and winged helmets, bring joyous news - the reforms of military organizations are over! The new Marshal, clad in silver and feathers, salutes you.

"My liege! I report that the change of the Army has been accomplished! No longer we will depend on the Alldivine zealots! Within half a year, the change will be announced to all governors and noblemen! Young men across Luathbas will receive notices of mandatory conscription in about the same amount of time. Our kingdom shall be as strong as never before!"

Congratulations! Kingdom of Methiant successfully reorganized its Army to a professional and mandatory training model:
You will no longer be able to procure services of religious mercenaries from Alldivine Cloisters.
The Army will continuously maintain (or at least, try to maintain) a high level on its own and will cause a constant drain on Economy (currently causing a yearly deficit!).
As mentioned by the new Marshal, you just received a small Population penalty to kick-start the mandatory conscription&training scheme.
In times of emergency, you will be able to order mobilization of a chunk of male popualtion for a certain amount of time.

You congratulate them all and then express your wishes that they do their best. They promise to do so!

1110 AD, Summer

Punctual as ever, the Eldricans bring Fireblood ingredients to exchange them for local gemstones.

Quote

Great news come from Mountains of Tven! Your prospectors there indeed found silver amongst the local rocks, and they believe there is enough ore to supply a mine for at least several decades, if not longer!

To properly begin excavation, they of course need money and supplies.

A) And of course they shall get them!
B) No, not this time, sorry.

There might be "Donu" in "Donuts", but I'll make extra sure the other way around remains false

This is best statement in this whole thread I think.

You decide to lead her to the healers. You don't get far before the maid clutches her stomach - or chest, you're not sure - in pain and leans downwards. Great, there will be a floor mess soon-

Ye gods! Instead of barfing like any normal sick person would do, a ribbed black appendage bursts from her mouth. In a cacophony of clicks, sizzles and very quiet shrieks, the maid stands upright, her chest bursting open and a set of four, scythe-like legs extending from her exposed ribcage, the visible bones wrapped in mass of black tentacles.

The horrid tentacle-ant-maid-thing then bursts a lobster-like tail from between its legs and goes as qaudruped. Its tongue-tube-thing extends towards you, and only now you notice triple row of needle-like teeth decorating its tight throat tunnel.

Drooling and clicking widly, this monster from other world advances towards you!!

a) fuckin hell run away and to the left there's guard tower there, or was it healers? fuk this why its always me
b) aaaah what the fuck time to run and go left that's were the mess hall is the masses gotta help or maybe some damn guards will b around for once
c) fuck this and evacuate through the window and if you remember correctly there's some roof underneath or stables or somethin

You decide that this is enough; the Hurthlings are definitely not worth keeping around as their murderous tendencies of the last century are still flowing through their veins. You demand all Hurthlings to leave Kingdom of Methiant before end of the year, or there will be dire consequences for them.

1109 AD, Summer

Quote

It seems that Hurthlings are listening; they're packing up and leave, and no Methiantese peasants are out of their way to harass them, but they're not helping either, cementing a cold and mutual distate between the races.

Could be worse, though.

Meanwhile, the caravan of Fireblood components arrives in the capital, the minerals are exchanged for gemstones.

1109 AD, Winter

The chilly day gives out to even colder night, the red afternoon sky fades into midnight blue of the night, the crescent moon glowing fiercely on the sky. Everyone is aflutter due to last night's shower of falling stars, which was visible and quite impressive, thanks to cloudless night.

As you move through the corridors, you bump into a maid. She looks a bit pale and is clearly exhausted.

"Apologies, my lord, I haven't been feeling well today."

A) She's clearly ill, she's ought to be sent to the healer.
B) She's clearly tired, she's ought to have some wine and warmth of the fireplace.
C) She's clearly unfit to serve, she's ought to be cast unto the streets!

You send a letter to the nobleman, but also to the Hurthlings, urging them to find a peaceful solution.

1109 AD, Mid-Spring

Quote
2

The situation along the border with Hurthlings only deteriorated. While the nobleman was somewhat willing to compromise, the Hurthlings weren't and this resulted in some more scuffles, until an actual skirmish ensued when Methiant militia men tried to apprehend some Hurthlings caught red-handed. This spread to nearby Hurthling settlement and also involved reinforcements, so as you read the report there are at least hundred dead (two-thirds being Hurthlings).

Courtiers are split and arguing; some believe dealing with Hurthlings was a bad idea, some believe they need time and space to adapt, and some call for outright punitive expedition.

A) Yep, gotta punish those little bastards and raid their lands for replying to our good intentions with naught but murder.
B) No no no, they definitely need to be forgiven and mayhaps we should 'tutor' our peasants a bit harsher.
C) What you talking about, kick the Hurthlings outta Methiant and be done with it!

You decide to give the alchemists lots of money to keep Fireblood flowing.

1108 AD, Midwinter

Money from Lametania arrives in your Treasury, with letter of thanks from King Umar; your soldiers helped get rid of most bandit groups by now.

1108 AD, End of the Year

You walk back and forth in your chambers till the arrival of the Advisor and those Scrolls of Kingdom Status he has. As he gets here, you cautiously open these sacred parchments...

Happiness: 5
Population: 7
Economy: 5
Army: 3

You see a three where you defintiely wouldn't want to see it.

"What happened there?"

"Well," The Advisor scratches his beard, "Our Fireblood stocks went in flames, some soldiers are in Lametania, and senior alchemists and engineers in Cydwyl and thus unavailable..."

"Right, right."

1109 AD, Spring

Another incidents with the Hurthlings happened.

This time, some of the bolder little peoples decided to go and hunt for some game animals. It would be fine if they weren't hunting in an hunting glade reserved for local nobleman and his potential guests. The hunting continued for a while before the locals noticed, and over forty animals (mostly boars) have been killed.

This has angered the nobleman in question, who took justice into his hands and killed the leader of this hunting group, said leader being son of a prominent Hurthling clan. There has been brawls and muggings on the border with hurthlings due to this, the report from northern governor says.

You decide to...

A) Send a letter to Hurthlings, telling them to get off Methiant soil forever.
B) Demand that the nobleman compensates the Hurthlings.
C) Send a letter to Hurthlings, asking that they do not break the law anymore, or there will be consequences.
D) Ignore this incident.
E) Send letters to both parties, urging them to find a peaceful solution to this dispute.

You agree to have some prospectors camp in the mountains for a while and see if there's any ore to be mined.

1108 AD, Autumn

Money arrives from Queen Dogethe! Per agreement, it equals three years of taxation.

1108 AD, Winter

As every year, gemstones mined out in the south are sent east to Eldrican.

Few days later, during a rather peaceful winter evening, you entertain yourself by reading some sultry books penned by some bards. As the night falls and your yawning reminds you it is time to sleep, suddenly you hear a roar louder than any thunder and flash of light outside.

You run up to the window and grimace at the sight.

The keep outside the capital, where the alchemists and engineers were working on Fireblood, is now half its original height, and giant blaze is bursting upwards from it. Why does bad luck hound you and your kingdom recently? Does the divine dice roll nothing but 1s as of late?

Few days later.

You thank the city guard for his report on extinguishing the fire, and the Royal Alchemist walks up to your throne to deliver his report.

"My liege, we have lost three years worth of supply of Fireblood components. At least five Thundercats have been destroyed, with several older Blackhearts also lost. We laso lost a whole cadre of young engineers who were training to operate our Fireblood engines. I beseech you to donate to our alchemist caste, otherwise our designs, nay, whole FIreblood endeavour will be delayed by several years."

You decide to...

A) Give them only some money, so at least they can get started with rebuilding.
B) Donate heavily to alchemists; Fireblood and Thundercats are of utmost importance of Methiant military.
C) Refuse to give them money, as the Treasury is rather empty nowadays.

You ask him to tell in detail what he knows about the ledgers and the mountains.

Quote
5

He obliges eagerly, weaving a tale about how he procured the ledgers from a band of adventurers who profited during the conquest of Donuth (they looted it from abandoned governor's house), and how he made research of the ledgers' contents, and then he tells you about Tven mountains and the ores and stones that were found there, and how it means that silver is there.

Unfortunately for him, you recently read a book about geology, and some details you remember simply don't work with what he said. After being confronted with this, the prospector gets nervous and tries to 'straighten' his tale but only digs him deeper. Soon, the charlatan is hauled away to the royal dungeons!

The Advisor strokes his beard for a while and then leans toward you.

"My liege, while he was a lair, in every tale there is a seed of truth. Mayhaps we should send our own agents to check the area in the mountains he described?"

A) "Sure, a cursory search won't hurt."
B) "Nah, they will only discover the obvious."

You ask them to ensure that half of money will be sent now.

Quote

They agree wholeheartedly. Queen Dogethe must be in dire need of Fireblood if her diplomats are so easy to convince.

Few days later, your senior alchemists and engineers leave with the envoys, to work for Queen Dogethe's Fireblood program.

1108 AD, Midsummer

A certain prospector arrives at your palace.

"Greetings, King Yoe! While I was doing my work this year, I stumbled upon some old prospecting ledgers that once belonged to a town governor from lands that once belonged to Donuth. In these ledgers, I've found enough evidence to conclude that the Tven mountains are abundant in silver ore!" The courtiers whisper amongst themselves, as a new silver mine would solve many, many problems that popped up recently.

"However, I am of no wealth or fame to pull off a mining endeavour like this. Therefore, I must ask the Crown to provide me with money and supplies so that I can prospect and dig the silver mines." You decide to...

A) Sponsor the prospector and send some money with him.
B) Reject his offer, as you are currently on tight budget.
C) Ask him to tell him more about Tven mountains, the ledgers, and everything else of note.

You try to sell the services of your alchemists and engineers.

Quote

After some time, this is what you and the envoys managed to come up with: you would send your men up north for a period of five years and receive money after that period; the amount of money received would be approximately 6 years of taxes.

A) This is fine, we have a deal, gentlemen!
B) No, this won't do, let's try something else.
C) Half now and half later, just in case.
D) No, this won't do. Begone from my court!

You decide to lower the taxes to default amount.

1108 AD, Spring

First few hundred soldiers has been sent south to Lametania. You receive a letter from King Umar; he has sent those men to patrol Lametanian roads as banditry has been on the raise in last few years.

1108 AD, Summer

You receive an envoy from Kingdom of Cydwyl.

"Wise King Yoe, my mistress has noticed that your Kingdom possesses certain siege machines that are of interest to our military. We have little in ways of producing Fireblood or making machines using it, therefore Queen Dogethe wishes to procure Fireblood components from your alchemists so that our military can begin their own project." Your courtiers and military officers present grumble and whisper. You do not have enough to supply two countries in the same time, and the military of course wouldn't want the the Cydwyls to catch up technologically (it's enough that they're curbstomping their neighbours without use of Fireblood).

You consider the offer and decide to...

A) Agree to pass Fireblood ingredients from Eldrican further to Cydwyl, but demanding very high price for them.
B) Attempt to sell services of your military designers and Fireblood alchemists instead.
C) Refuse to sell your military equipment and/or secrets to Queen Dogethe.

You agree to the deal and promise the help keep Lametania secure. They ask for your soldiers to march south by the Spring, and they will send money in the winter time.

1107 AD, End of the Year

The Advisor visits you in the library, where you have been reading a copy of '"The Golden Years of Houlandines'. You close the book and prepare for the worst.

Happiness: 5
Population: 7
Economy: 3

"Our Treasury barely made it even this year, my lord. Shall we extend the period of raised taxes for another year?"

A) "But of course, we cannot go bankrupt!"

You send the Spymaster back to his work.

1107 AD, Winter

You receive interesting news. The dwarven cities of Zasitost and Ankurvat became quite active lately. Even now, numerous merchant and soldier parties travel through Methiant countryside, opting to stay out of cities and inns if they can.

Few days later, you receive a delegation from newest King of Lametania, Umar. Apparently sending envoys to you was first thing he did, according to the diplomats themselves.

"Greetings, King Yoe II of Methiant! We bring offer of military cooperation from our master, King Umar." Your courtiers murmur while the Advisor steps forward with a question.

"What kind of cooperation are we talking about here?"

"Your soldiers help King Umar maintain safety on the borders and the roads of the Kingdom; in return, we will send you gold in yearly manner." Your courtiers murmur even louder.

You decide to...

A) Demand more money for the services of your soldiers.
B) Reject the offer for cooperation.
C) Agree to the deal.
