Forum Games and Roleplaying / Re: SPAMKINGDOM#: King Luath of Methiant!

You send him a reply in which you order thim to shut down the mining operations once the ore runs out.

1102 AD, Midsummer

Your wife gives birth to a baby girl! She names her 'Yra', after a warrior-queen from one of very old folk tales.

You hear news from the north; apparently Queen Dogethe decided to tame The Wildlands and established few settlements in that region. It's a rocky plateau dotted with few spruce glades and only few running streams - a harsh land to farm and thrive on, but it seems Cydwyls believe they can do it.

The caravan of Fireblood supplies arrived from the west. Your alchemists gladly took the powders and ores to their workshops.

1102 AD, Autumn

A seldom event occured in the north!

King Daran of Dahnia died heirless. His cousin, King Algaus of Helliste has declared his intent to take the throne of Dahnia, citing his family relationship (he is Daran's maternal cousin) as a legitimate claim for it. Apparently, the Dahnian nobility, with few exceptions, decided to go with it without resistance. There are, of course, some of Daran's relatives running around Dahnia at the moment but they have little power in politics, so who knows if they will do anything about this.

1102 AD, Mid-Autumn

Your Advisor arrives with a report.

"Sire, I'm happy to announce that our alchemsits and metallurgists has managed to produce a certain amount of Thundercats. These powerful siege machines will be now at the disposal of our Army, and considering their smaller size and lesser weight, we can conduct military operations at regular speed now."

You nod at the Advisor and are ready to dismiss him, when he speaks up.

"The Royal Alchemist and the Marshal both inquire whether there should be a formal presentation of the Thundercats' power which you and the rest of Royal Family would attend."

A) "Nah, just have them added to our Army already."
B) "Agreed! I will personally thank them after a successful combat presentation."

D had huge advantage over all other options and was a clear winner ;v

You publicly proclaim that you will rule Methiant until Cyl reaches the valid age of ascension - fifteen years. That means that the Year 1114 AD will be the last year of your rule.

Segeda of course looks very pleased, and the nobles accept your decision too.

1102 AD, Summer

An urgent letter has arrived from the silver mines in the north east. The manager of the mines writes that the miners have noticed that the veins of ore are going dry, and new digging sites provide not a speck of metal. He believes that the mines will soon run out of ore, perhaps in as little as two or three years. Just like dwarves 'prophesized'.

In the last part of the letter he asks what to do - is he to close the mines, or shall you fund a new mining endeavour nearby in hopes of uncovering some extra ore?

A) Nay, dumping money into truly exhausted mines would be waste of time and coins.
B) Of course! We need to do everything to squeeze as much as possible from the area.

Pale green? You must have different monitor settings for colors than I do, because her skin looks fairly normal to me, if not only a bit 'shadowier' than normal Aine's ;v

Regency means no control, so all 'b if not a' votes were counted as b, therefore:

aaaaaaa
bbbbbbbb

1102 AD

You are Luath, son of Yoe I. Your brother's mind fell into insanity and his heir, while a legitimate successor, would require over ten years of regency of his mother, who would wield no real power in Methiant. Therefore, to ensure stability of the kingdom, you were chosen to the throne. You are known to be a shrewd politician and a charismatic statesman.

Here comes the advisor, which the Scrolls of Kingdom Status in his hands!

Happiness: 8
Population: 6
Economy: 6
Army: 4

You are then briefed up-to-date on the affairs of the Kingdom:

The bureaucratic reform started by your brother is going steadily, and the renovations of various keeps and manors is underway.

The caravan of fireblood ingredients from Eldrican arrived in Late Summer, allowing your alchemists and metallurgists to continue working on the fearsome Thundercats.

Unfortunately, when the news of your brother's insanity slipped past palace walls, people got a little upset. Not a major hit to the stability of the realm, though.

Your wife, Ana of Ceodwell (granddaughter of Ceodwell IX, who was the father of recently died Ceodwell X, she's also a cousin of currently reigning Calahan III), is pregnant with your third child. Your twin sons, Aón and Elmach, are both two years old.

Out of respect for your brother's dynastic line, you decide not to crown yourself as Yoe III, but instead, you adapt your birth name as your regnal name. Long Live King Luath!

1102 AD, Spring

News arrive from the east; apparently Kashites struck a peace deal with Gubtas, cutting the war shorter in exchange for territories. That pissed off the Shahshans, who were apparently not on the deal. Currently, while Gubta recover, the Shahshans and the Kashites have a minor war of mostly honour going on between themselves.

1102 AD, Mid-Spring

Grand Duchess Segeda has long clamored for an audience, and has been finally given one. With her nose high and her glare attempting to, well, kill you, the once proud Queen stops in front of your throne.

"Dear brother-in-law, King Luath, I need a confirmation from you. My children are young, but are of legitimate birthright and thus in line to the throne of Methiant. Do tell, are they going to once sit upon it like you do today? Or do you wish to establish your family branch as the ruling dynasty? I will honorably forewarn you - I will not give up the prestigious future of my children so easily!" You decide to...

A) Politely explain to her that the next King of Methiant will be Aón, the eldest of your twin sons.
B) Deliver a clear enough message for everyone present - and toss Segeda into a damp dungeon cell!
C) Attempt to negotiate a compromise - for example, her son and your nephew, Cyl, is eligible if you somehow wind up without a heir while on your deathbed.
D) Publicly proclaim that you will relent the throne to Cyl when the boy reaches fifteen years of age.

Succession Debate Council, 1101 AD, Autumn

The iron cane makes a loud noise when the Advisor taps the stone floor of the council chamber.

The issue at hand is as follows: after Yoe II has fled from the castle through the sewers one day, instead of simply walking out, a search was concudcted and the monarch was found babbling about end of the world and need to immediately find a Wizard. As he was seemingly struck with disease of insanity that kept holding on his mind after three months, the courtiers of Yoe II decided they need someone stable mentally on the throne.

But that became a point of contention and erupted into heated shouting, before the cane brought order back.

"It is evident that we have a split of thought here. Shall we risk a lengthy regency for Crown Prince Cyl-"

"Regency! Regency for the legimiate successor!" The cane sounds again to silence one half of the room.

"-or do we pass the throne of Methiant to Duke Luath, brother of King Yoe II and son of Yoe I, who is known to be a charismatic man?"

"Eligible to the throne! No regency, no turmoil, this the only choice!!"

"Regency! Regency of good Queen Segeda~!" The cane then once again had to bring order to the council.

After several lenghty heated discussions, some shouting contests and at least five cane interventions, the council has thus decided to...

A) Establish the Regency of Queen Segeda for Crown Prince, till he reaches age of ascension (in the distant 1113 AD)
B) Pass the throne to Duke Luath, brother of Yoe II, son of Yoe I.

You ask your courtiers to look for a wizard.

"Sire? There's no calamity occuring, no monsters threatening the country. Whatever for we need the wizard at the moment?"

Quote

Your attempt at convincing them fails, unfortunately.

A) Clearly they're conspiring against me. Off with their heads!
B) They must be affected too. I've got to set off into the land incognito to find myself a Wizard!!
C) Even the air here is oppressive. To the highest tower! I need some fresh air to think!!

You send a letter to Calahan III, congratulating his ascension to the Ceodwellian throne.

Two weeks later you receive a response letter, in which Calahan III thanks you for your kind message.

1101 AD, Summer

"It is very strange." You whisper to yourself, sipping on the wine.

The nights seem to be darker. The days are oft foggy or clouded. Local hunting grounds, few years ago filled with game animals, seem to be lifeless today. Your wife, previously not minding your presence, now seems to avoid you for some time, not even visiting you at the bedside. Plus all those little accidents with maids and servants, yes...

Yes, it has been very strange indeed since the birth of Aethled. Is he a spawn of evil? A herald of calamity that's about to come?

A) Maybe I'm just imagining things and all I need is another drink.
B) Segeda borne Aethled, so she is cause of all this. It's time to punish her.
C) I better get rid of the child. Quietly. For the good of my family, and all of Methiant!
D) TRULY SOMETHING SUPERNATURAL IS AT WORKS HERE I BETTER CALL A WIZARD.

//EDIT: Forgot the mandatory choice, is fixed now.

You decide to spend the money to renovate various keeps, manors and forts across the nation. As Methiant has grown bigger in recent years, there's much more buildings to be renovated - thus the cost will be higher, but nothing the Treasury cannot handle, the Advisor assures you!

1101 AD, Spring

You learn that the Shahshans and the Kashites are in stalemate with the Gubta, and that Prince Celer has finally ascended the throne after King Ceodwell X has died of sudden fever. Truly a tragedy, it is, although some whisper that the fever wasn't an accident, considering Prince Celer's lately rise to the prominence. He has taken upon regnal name of 'Calahan III', to honor his distant ancestor and warrior-king, himself a grandson of the conqueror, savant, and long-lived monarch, Ceodwell of Luathbas.

A) Send him a congratulatory letter.
B) Send him a modest gift of money - not a bribe, nope.
C) Publicly shame Calahan III and insinuate that he was behind Ceodwell X's death.

You commission some brave soldiers, adventurers and traders to go through the southern mountains and establish a route to Gubta there.

1100 AD, End of the Year

The Advisor, always punctual, brings the Scrolls of Kingdom Status for you.

Happiness: 9
Population: 6
Economy: 8
Army: 4

"Your Majesty, both the administrative reform and the pursuit of newer Fireblood machines is going steady. The scribes continue working on the new version of the Royal Map."

"Your Majesty! We have accumulated vast amount of wealth and your people love you! Shall we do anything about that? Surely you have some grandiose plans for this time of prosperity?"

As for the money...

A) Sponsor construction of grand monument commemorating our recent military conquests.
B) Contact the dwarves with the intent of commissioning their runemasters for creation of an artifact.
C) Expand, beautify and fortify your palace to reflect your power and reputation as a leader.
D) "Naaaah." Leisurely nap on your mountain of riches.
E) Renovate the various minor keeps and manors across our expanded country to appease both garrison commanders and local nobility.
F) Toss extra cash into the bureaucratic reform to make it happen sooner.
G) Toss extra cash into the Fireblood research to get Thundercat production started sooner.

As for the happy peasants...

A) Raise taxes for a year to squeeze extra coin from them.
B) Establish a new, higher tax rate for peasantry. They surely can deal with it.
C) Nah, let's keep them happy and all.

//Per usual, no split votes pls.

You send an angry letter to Prince Celer, demanding return of stolen ore.

1100 AD, Late Winter

Quote

The wagons of ore are returned to the border and now in the custody of your soldiers! A letter was also given by a Ceodwell escorts.

In the letter, Prince Celer formally withdraws his country from the trade treaty of silver and spice.

Your merchants and courtiers loudly bemoan that something be done about this! You decide to...

A) Tell them to shut up and be happy that the silver can at least be added to the Treasury.
B) Sponsor an expedition to establish a safe route to Gubta lands through the uninhabited and rarely traversed Ironbone Mountains.
C) Send a letter to Prince Celer, demanding that the trade route be restored at once, or there will be consequences of his dishonorable conduct!

You decide to send a letter of inquiry.

1100 AD, Midwinter

You get a reply from Prince Celer, one of Ceodwell X's nephews and Treasurer of the Kingdom of Ceodwell: he explains that the silver has been seized because your merchants declined to pay the usual tax for travelling through Kingdom of Ceodwell for last three years.

You call up the merchants in question and they deny fervently that they declined to pay - in fact, they did so even after Prince Celer,  has raised the tax several times in recent years. Hmmm.

A) Clearly, the merchants are lying! Have them flogged for endangering good relations with Ceodwells!
B) Clearly, Prince Celer is lying! Time to write a letter in which you demand return of the stolen ore.
C) Tell the Merchants to just suck it up and pay Prince Celer that damned tax.

You give the money to the alchemists so that they might begin working on those western Thundercats they're praising so hard.

1100 AD, Late Summer

You get news from the east; the Shanshans and the Kashites are making serious inroads into Gubta at the moment.

A week later, your beloved wife gives birth to another boy! She names him 'Aethled', after her grandfather from mother's side.

1100 AD, Winter

Three rather uneventful months pass.

You receive silver and gemstones; silver goes east, gemstones go west. Usual thing.

Mere two weeks later the silver caravan returns, its leaders complaining!

"My liege, the Ceodwells seized our silver and told us to return home empty-handed!" This is both a theft and grave insult, however it also might be a hint that Ceodwells are no longer the friends of Gubta. After a brief council with your courtiers, you decide to...

A) Send an angry letter to King Ceodwell, demanding right of passage for your merchants, or else!
B) Tell the merchants to stay quiet as you compensate their losses with the royal coinage.
C) Send a letter of inquiry to the Ceodwells, asking them to explain themselves.
D) Order the Army to avenge this slight upon your honor by assaulting some border villages!!
