You hire some adventurers and send part of your army on the hunt for the thief.
The investigation and the search are underway, although there has been little results for now.
Week later you receive report from investigators; the old castle has numerous nooks and unused corridors. The investigators advise refurbishment of the palace and construction of dedicated vault for the most precious of jewels.
Some of your courtiers are giving up hope now. It's been two months and the thief could be on the other side of Ceodwell by now.
Simple gemstones and freshly mined silver arrive at the Treasury, filling it up with riches.
Entirety of Methiant has been searched and every stone was upturned, but there is no sight of the thief or the Scepter. The Army officers take their troops off the search, but the adventurers are willing to go abroad if you pay them extra.
A) Of course! The Scepter MUST be found!
B) This is pointless. It's clear that the Scepter is lost.
1092 AD, Mid-Autumn

Your marriage to the niece of Queen Dogethe brings hundreds of nobles and wealthy merchants to the reception, and many craftsmen and officials are here to feast on the good day for the royal family.
By the evening you learn that your wife is absolutely terrible! She is pretty, yes, and she has good hands (oh dang, those hands!), but she keeps talking. And talking. And talking. Is talking this much a custom in the north? Considering she kept talking even when you two were making love, it must be that.
Several days later, guards raise an alarm! The Rainbow Scepter of Weather has been stolen along with some gemstones and ornate jewellery from the Treasury! Whoever did this, must've been a master at thievery.

A) Send your agents and armies to search the countryside!
B) Hire lvl 30+ adventurers to track and capture the thief!
C) Do both of the above.
