You send an envoy to the Hurthlings.

1083 AD, Spring

Just few days later, Battlebrother Roar of the Tech Cloister arrives to have an audience with you.

"May the Alldivines bless you and provide all you need and want, King Yoe. I've been sent to you to ascertain whether you wish to procure our warriors' services. Our Cloisterlord also wishes to apologize, but last two years have been rather hectic in the region, and thus we had shortage of youths to supply."

A) "Sure, send me your holy mercenaries."
B) "Nah, not anymore. At leas, at the moment."

Per your orders, the shipment of minerals are sent to Felonsine.

1082 AD, End of the Year

The Advisor arrives at your study just after you're done appraising little Estant's heraldry skills.

Happiness: 4
Population: 4
Economy: 8
Army: 2

"Wait, the monks haven't arrived to speak with us again." The Advisor nods at your insightful remark.

"I have sent them another envoy by the end of Autumn and then, a week ago, but they haven't had time to reply yet, it seems. This means our Army is still looking poorly in terms of numbers. Mayhaps we should send for dwarves, my liege? They're not keen on providing mercenary forces these days, but given our vast amount of money, we could persuade them? Otherwise, we might send a cautious inquiry to the brutish, secretive Tiftit Hurthlings, as their slingers and knifemen are known for their ferocity in combat."

A) "Get in touch with the dwarves, please."
B) "Why not both? Send an envoy to both Zasitost dwarves and Tiftit hurthlings."
C) "Maybe after decades of isolation, we can nudge Hurthlings into cooperation - send them a message."
D) "Naw, I trust in the honor of the Cloisterlords. We will wait."

Blandland, ruled by Joseph I., heir of a long dynasty of mild-mannered and slightly ineffectual monarchs. We've been a constitutional monarchy for a while now because the ruler at the time preferred to spend his time fishing.

You have the alchemists begin tinkering on with Fireblood formula, while a skilled agent is sent to Ceodwell to deliver the anonymous letter.

1082 AD, Midwinter

Silver, gems and Fireblood components arrive at your Palace.

"Sire, what about sulphur and the others? Shall we send it to Felonsein as usual?"

A) "Naw, renounce the treaty! My own alchemists will soon need the ingredients."
B) "Yea, we will be getting new Blackhearts next year after all."

You have the messenger thrown into the dungeon and the Dahnian letter, with a letter of your own, sent to Queen Dogethe of Cydwyl.

1082 AD, Mid-Autumn

The secret envoy returns; Queen Dogethe sent you nothing besides few words of gratitude for exposing the Dahnian's plottings.

1082 AD, Winter

The Spymaster bumps onto you, with few men behind him.

"What is the reason for this uncouth bumping of my personage?" You ask, and the Spymaster bows.

"My liege, we have news of utmost importance. Actually, two news. The first is that few of our servants have managed to divulge the formula for Fireblood from Felonsein masters. The second is that my operatives in the east have found evidence that a rebellion is growing in Ceodwell, the nobles plotting with the youngest son of King Aun, Eogvanth."

As for Fireblood...

A) Ask your alchemists and engineers to begin tinkering with the thing.
B) Begin a well-funded project to prepare your own Fireblood for the use in your military!
C) Keep the secret, secret, for now.

As for Ceodwell rebellion...

A) Send operatives to contact Eogvanth and his rebels.
B) Send anonymous warning to your father-in-law, King Aun.
C) Keep this information to yourself.

You give it a small bite of dried meat.

It snatches it into its jaws and then scurries up the rocks and stones, towards the very peak of the mountains. You wait for a while but it doesn't come down, content in perching on a boulder outside your reach.

You leave for home.

Congratulations! King Yoe has finished up an Epic Quest!

Within a week you're back at your palace, and just hours after you get a bath and a decent meal, the Wizard comes back. You wish to regale him with tales of your many exploits, but he cuts you off.

"I know that you have succeeded in the task that I have given you. Look for a red swan and the fire of the grassland. Those will be signs that Queen of Vanity is no more harassing your land." The enigmatic, robed old man leaves your palace without further ado.

1082 AD, Mid-Spring

Strange reports are coming from the very southeast of Methiant! Soon after the scholars sighted the Red Swan, a comet, pass on the night sky, someone set fire to one of the grasslands near the village of Ynoen. The peasants, after securing the fire and then making sure it won't consume their farms, have discovered a charred, roasted body of a giant spider amongst the ashes!

Tis must be Queen of Vanity's final fate. All across the Kingdom celebrate the sudden death of the foul, wicked monstrosity!

1082 AD, Summer

News come from the north; Princess Dogethe have succeeded her father as ruler of Cydwyl, and has begun extensive military campaign against the Ionith. Reports claim that she has many Alldivine monks, Donuth mercenaries and, apparently, a Helliste 'warlock' at her side, whomever a warlock is supposed to be (apparently all he does is tell fortune from innards of dead animals and brew medicinal tonics for Dogethe's soldiers).

1082 AD, Autumn

Your wife has given birth to a boy! This time the child is fine and healthy, the medics say, and Auga bestows the name of 'Ean' upon the child.

Few days later you receive a secret letter from Kings of Dahnia. They wish to interest you in a surprise attack against the rear of Cydwyl Kingdom. They promise personal union with Dahnian royal family, heap of wealth and an enchanted ruby, Eye of Gods, if you can take down Dogethe's domain.

A) Naw, let's not get ourselves in a mess against Cydwyls again..
B) Sure, that is a good enough price to involve our soldiers. Blow the war horn!
C) They're doubly stupid - not only we won't lift a finger, we will forward the letter to Queen Dogethe!

We're also open to tech trading! And not sending in Espionage actions just means your spies are on the defensive, I think

Exactly.
