The harvest was bontiful this year - definitely good news for your depleted populace but maybe not so for your depleted Treasury, as the priests and governors alike loudly ask that a harvest festival week is sponsored by the Duchy to lift people's spirits and reward their hard work.
A) Naw, we just ain't got the money.
B) Finally, it is party time!
984 AD, Autumn

You scoff and tell the diplomat that Kiwi will gain nothing from you. The diplomat leaves unhappy.
A curious report arrives from city of Tech. Its miners have discovered deposits of green crystals within a newly dug quarry just an hour north from the city walls. They seem to be very durable and give out a nice shine.
The city mayor wonders if the Duke wants the quarry converted into crystal mine.
A) Hell yeah, let's mine them out at once.
B) How about we employ dwarves for this?
C) Naw, discard the crystals and resume quarrying.

"My master, King Eón of Dahnia, has noticed that you failed to send the tribute by the end of year 983." You explain him that you didn't consider it as the Duchy has been suffering troubles, and its economy didn't escape them either.
"Reasonable. Can you send the money with meself and my guards, so that King Eón will be pleased with your compliance and obedience?"
A) "*unsheathe sword* NEVERMOOORREEE!!"
B) "But of course, here you go."
C) "I'm afraid I need to postpone it till end of the year."

The good news is that the Senate, taking into account the people's praise of your gemstones and their quality, has decided to uphold the trade route and is inquriing wherever you would agree to exchange gemstones for some other good?"
"What goods can you offer?" The trade advisor perks up.
"The Republic has plenty of salt to offer, to preserve your foods and to give them a sharper taste. We also can offer curious minerals, like cinnabar and saltpetre, which can be used in many processes, for dyes like cinnabar, or to preserve meat with saltpetre. We also offer the expensive leafworm cloth, delicate, translucent and luxurious fiber that has adorned many a Damdamian noblewomen and noblemen thorough decades." Courtiers murmur and the trade advisor leans in.
"Salt could bring luxury to our commoners, sire, while leafworm cloth would surely bring us profits from merely being middlemen to our nobles. Cinnabar and other ores could be useful but it sounds like a risky, maybe even unprofitable deal, if you ask me." The shocking news are brought by the Kiwi travellerss, who report that the sons of Atulak has killed each other mere days after their father's funeral. This has left the Khanate in state of power vacuum and already at least several minor tribal chieftains are vying for power. In the east of the Khanate, the Kiwi royal family has seized the opportunity and is rising against their ex-oppressors.
Few days later you receive two envoys; one from the Kiwis, and there's also one from Damdamian Republic.
"Which shall we let in first, my liege?" You tell the guard to open the door for...
