I heard that ""fun"" adventures in foreign lands usually impart life lessons and personal development on those involved.

Clearly, Ulan's journey is grade A anime plot. "Adventures of Northern Prince" sound nice.

You demand of Spymaster that he sends his agents to the eastern end of the world if it is required to bring Ulan back!

After you calm down a bit, you return to throne room and have the Dahnian diplomat let in.

"Greetings, fair Duke! My master King Eón has sent me to find the source for certain glassware items he received from his grand-aunt one day as a gift and apparently, they originated from your lands! Therefore I come to ask you whether you would be interested in selling these marvelous glass items to Dahnia." You politely explain to him that you're not producing them, and that you're just exchanging them for locally mined gemstones with Damdamians.

"Truly, that is some news. Still, I'm here to procure glassware. Would you be interested in acting as King Eón's proxy to obtain a profitable glassware deal with the Damdamians?"

A) "But of course, if that will earn my liege's good will!"
B) "But of course - if King Eón is willing to pay the proxy some coin sometimes."
B) "No, we're not interested."

So, quick question, what do the "XtoY" rolls mean?

5to6 for example means that no matter if you roll a 5 or 6, it will be the same outcome. I'm using these mostly for economy-related stuff like I did with goldmine revenues in old Luathbas or the glass-gems trade here ;v

You decide to speak with the Spymaster.

"Sire, we have news about Prince Ulan." You close the door behind you.

"Finally!"

"Our agents had to travel far into the Gubta eastlands, and few have failed to report back." You look at him funny and he continues on the subject:

"Apparently, your son have, by accident, married and impregnated a Gubtan noblewoman-widow, but then he got into a fight with her not-so-dead husband, losing several servants in the fight; he fled through the swampish area that Gubtans call 'Lakes of Thousand Snakes'. That was in late 978, if our Gubtan sources are to be trusted. He was last seen entering the forests of Saravay Kingdom, still chased by the soldiers of the angry nobleman, and no person matching his description has been seen since. My agents have attempted to seek him there, to no avail."

A) "It's all Gubta's fault! It's time I send them some very blunt and very angry letters, demanding they find Ulan and pay for his grieviances!!"
B) "Send your agents further east and bring Ulan back in one piece, or else!"
C) "Truly, he is lost to us now. Naught to do but declare Atan as my new heir."

You send your son a letter, trying to subtly ask about the things your spies discovered.

After two weeks, a reply arrives; Salus equally subtly tells you to mind your own matters, thank you very much. He does reassure you that he isn't going to stab your back soon, and whatever evidence you've gathered are forgeries planted for your spies by vile enemies, whoever they be.

980 AD, Autumn

Gemstones from last year are sold to Damdamians for glassware and extra coin.

Treasury does not profit much from the exchange, but your people though! People are ecstatic to have such luxurious items easily at hand and regular intervals.

980 AD, Mid-Autumn

Just as you receive a whisper from your servant that Spymaster wishes to see you, one of the gate guards arrives in your throne room.

"Sire, an envoy from King Eón of Dahnia has arrived and is asking for audience with you." You decide to speak with...

A) Dahnian envoy.
B) The Spymaster.

9560
Truly, we have the most uniquely talented spy network in all existence.

Can I sig you?

Cuz I wanna sig you.

I think I will anyways.

9561
You order taxes raised for next year.

980 AD, Spring

You receive news from your liege!

The pirates of Alba were soundly defeated during the Battle of Igven, and their High King, Astralda, was captured and forced to pay tribute to the throne of Dahnia.

These pirates shall think twice before raiding your senior's coasts.

980 AD, Mid-Spring

The Spymaster bumps into you in one of the corridors.

"Did you find Ulan yet?"

"No sire, but that's not what I'm coming to you with." He says enigmatically and then takes you to the side. "My agents, who are keeping an eye on Lametanian court, have found compelling evidence about your son, King Salus of Lametania, conspiring with your uncles in Ceodwell, to take the southern lands that once belonged to Luthian Alliance."

You can't believe it!"

"What kind of evidence you have?" The Spymaster provides you with set of copies of letters (made off real letters found in Salus' palace one night by your spies) signed by either 'C4' or 'KS'. They're talking about securing approval from Damdamians, sending emissaries to King Eón or his brothers, and about stirring ferment within the Singularist clergy against you.

"Did any of this happen yet?" The Spymaster shakes his head.

"None of these proposals have come to fruition, and my agents report that Singularist clergy has actually became more hostile to southern travelers as of late, and Damdamians aren't massing any troops in or near Lametania. There were few emissaries sent between King Eón and King Ceodwell, though."

You decide to...

A) Launch a pre-emptive strike into Ceodwell!
B) Station majority of the Army in the south and repair fortifications there, maybe this will make your enemies think.
C) Dismiss this whole thing as a bundle of forgeries written by lunatics.
D) Expose this vile treachery publicly to ruin the image of King Salus and The Ceodwells.
E) Write more-or-less subtle inquiry to your son, King of Lametania, about this.

9562
Also, what's the deal with that small chunk of Tven that isn't part of Dahnia?

Legal wording shenanigans by Luthians means that the goldmines and people living around them respond only to Tvenian administration ;v

9563
You order the Spymaster to send agents east to search for Ulan, and, if possible, bring him back already.

Few days later, the gemstones from dwarven mines arrive at the Treasury.

979 AD, End of the Year

The Advisor brings Scrolls of Kingdom Status for you.

Happiness: 7
Population: 7
Economy: 4

"We have had quite many expenses this year, my liege. Should we raise taxes, in case next year might drain our Treasury the same?"

A) "Naw, no need for it."
B) "Sure, as a precaution."

"Also, the royal scribes finished updating and enlarging the map we use at the court."

You agree to their counterproposal. One load of money is prepared at once; the other will leave about the same time next year.

Damdamians are told that they can bring their glassware every year.

979 AD, Late Winter

Revenues from gold mines arrive per usual!

The advisor stares at you as you don't really react to the news.

"Is it about Ulan, sire? It's indeed only few weeks from start of new decade, as he had promised..."

A) "No, no I'm fine, let's wait another half a year."
B) "Truly, it's time to send a military expedition to the east and recover Ulan from whatever trouble he got into!"
C) "Truly, it's time to send spies and agents to ascertain his whereabouts and bring him back."

9566
You decide to offer some gold this year as partial compensation for sudden change. The dwarves turn to each other and murmur some more.

"Make it this year and the next, Duke, and we will agree to it."

A) "You have a deal!"
B) "Ehhh, no, let's stick to the old one then."

You decide to call up the dwarves to your court.

979 AD, Midwinter

The delegation of the dwarves arrives at your court. Fat, cloaked dwarves which you assume and believe are the same as the ones who came last year.

"We have heard that you wish to renegotiate our tax once again! Unlike our brethren of Armok, we do not like liaisons renegotiating prices every year."

You explain to them that you wish to receive gemstones every year. They talk betwene each other and murmur in their language.

"Agreed. But you're drawing away considerable amount of profits from us this way. We wish to receive some coinage every two years to compensate for lost profits."

A) "Agreed, just bring your gemstones!"
B) "I cannot agree for that. Though I can send some funds this year as a sign of goodwill."
C) 'No, that won't do it. I don't think I want your gemstones that much."

9569
You have some money send to Ceodwell.

979 AD, Winter

An envoy from Damdamia arrives at your court.

"Greetings, Duke of Tven! The fine gemstomes that our traders brought from your lands astonish our people, and many noblewomen and patricians wish to have jewelry adorned with nothing else but these. I have come to inquire whether you would be willing to part with larger amount of these gemstones, and accept our caravans of glassware every year?"

A) "No, thank you, we simply do not have enough to afford annual exchanges."
B) "Well, hmm, well, alright, just let me... let me speak with my... miners."

9570
You decide to wait half a year longer.

979 AD, Autumn

The caravan from Damdamia arrives in your court. The merchants are astonished by the quality of gemstones and are willing to pay a bit higher price than for the dull malachite they were offered prior!

Unfortunately, while the profits aren't as high as you have hoped, the wondrous glassware makes many a noble and citizen happy in your Duchy.

979 AD, Mid-Autumn

An envoy from the King of Ceodwell arrives for audience with you.

In a long speech, he praises your skill at administration and prosperity of your Duchy, and implores you to share your wealth - or at least grain - with the Ceodwellians, who suffered another bad harvest and are threatened by famine.

You didn't have that much of a great harvest this year, thus you decide to...

A) Give them some money so they can procure foodstuffs elsewhere.
B) -
C) Refuse their request for assistance.
