Also I gotta point out that not only Estwalf reached his 40s by now, which is a record for PC leaders in this game, he also surpassed Houlandin III's reign of 19 years v;

time to kill him by freak accident!

You decide to sell the copper.

Quote
4

It sells for a hefty price, just enough to pay off for the extravagant dress and artisans' payments!

979 AD, Summer

Your wife, by now slightly annoyed with the thumping, stops her sewing and looks after you as you pace about the bedchamber.

"You're worrying too much, dear husband." She says. "But mayhaps you should ask the Spymaster to send some agents to look into whereabouts of your son in the Gubta?"

A) "Spies! What I need is my Army going and mounting a search and rescue operation for my dear boy!"
B) "No, no... that would be too hasty yet. It's not even the new decade anyway. I think I can wait half a year longer before acting."
C) "Indeed! I will go ask him to send his agents immediately. What would've I done without you, my dear? *smek*"

979 AD, Mid-Spring

The Advisor coughs during one of the paper-writing sessions. You look at him.

"It's been a year, and I've received a message that mines are being closed this Spring. What about the copper, my liege?"

A) "Keep stockpilin'."
B) "Fine, just sell it."

9574
You commission some renowned artisans to sew your wife an expensive dress.

Tails

She accepts the gift but doesn't seem to appreciate nor like it, really.

A) Oh well.
B) DIVORCE!

6This good luck of yours will one day come crashing down at ya

You have them convinced in less than an hour. You have one of the castle guards keep an eye and ear open about Tisa's 'escapades', if any.

978 AD, Midwinter

Revenues from gold mines arrive at your Treasury, as well as chests full of gemstones - mostly in red and green hues - from the dwarves. These are stockpiled and kept under guard till arrival of Damdamians next year.

978 AD, End of the Year

Once again, it is time for the scrolls.

Them's good numbers, aren't they?

Your relationship with your second wife is growing colder day by day. You rarely find entertainment in talking with her, and she welcomes you in her bed less frequently and less enthusiastically. Did she have a crush on you, but now after the years it lost the charm to her? Mayhaps.

A) Truly, sometimes relationships go this way. This will be only a formality, now.
B) Time to show how much I care! Let's commission artisans, clothiers and jewellers to get Ygwylla the most ornate and beautiful of dresses seen in all of Tven!
C) Mayhaps she resents me and just does not dare speak about it aloud? Mayhaps she wants a divorce?

9576
You dispense part of your riches to fund proper equipment and materials for the young students, who promise to do their best and not blow up things on accident.

978 AD, Winter

One of Singularist priestesses found your daughter, Tisa, 'befouling' a young priestess-initiate in the palatial storerooms! Entire court is already rumoring about the sexual 'tastes' of the young Princess, and the Singularist clergy is most offended - both because their laws are stricter than Pantheonist ones, and of course because they were embarassed by having a homosexual amongst their initiates.

They've already banished the initiate to the village she came from, and they await your judgement on your own daughter now.

A) It's just a phase. Tisa will grow out of it, just gotta convince the priests of that.
B) Tisa definitely should be punished. 100 days alone in a tower should do it.
C) Clearly she has been possessed by some lust demon. Time to call for exorcist!
D) Time to marry her off into some nobleman's family with no girls her age around.

That was lotsa votes!

You decide to ask the students to follow in their master's steps and work on the flammable, explosive - or both - kind of substance that possibly is Fireblood. They fidget for a while.

"Our master was tinkering with materials of low quality as none of components of Fireblood, if we have the correct list, are easily available in Tven. Can we ask the Duke to sponsor our work with money so we can afford a true workshop with quality equipment and best of ingredients?"

A) "You will have the money you want!"
B) "No, if I have to pay, then let's drop the subject."

9578
You ask them to consider paying you in actual gemstones rather than money made from them.

The dwarves snicker amongst each other, or so you believe, and their leader nods. "This is agreed! Gemstones for tax, this is very good indeed. We bid you farewell." You then send envoys to King Salus to update him on situation and have the details eked out.

978 AD, Autumn

You wish your children good night and then leave your wife in her chambers as you go read a book on military conquests of the Kings of Dahnia from early 10th century.

Then there's an explosion so loud and so powerful that you fall off your chair. Guards are yelling, maids are screaming and people are running everywhere.

The tower of the royal alchemist lost its roof and is on fire!

The next morning, the body of the alchemist is recovered and his students bemoan his death.

"He was tinkering about the Fireblood substance for years, yet he had no luck with finding the exact formula. And the luck has only worsened, now that he died from his foolish research!" You think about it for a moment.

A) Clearly, Fireblood must be something truly precise and highly complex. Let's forbid its research, lest the whole of palace blows up on next mishap.
B) Truly, if he made such a big explosion with Fireblood components or similar substances, we might find some use for it! The students ought to continue their late master's studies!

C

Also, I can't tell which between A and B is supposed to be the more moderate option.

Yeah I forgot a bit in option A, meant 'gold 1st year, gems 2nd year' while B was to mean 'gold every 2 years, plus gems every year'.

9580
You send an envoy to the dwarves, too.

978 AD, Summer

They take their time before appearing, though.

Their delegation is comprised of half a dozen fat dwarves with shiny, round faces and extravagant cloaks. Clearly a trader caste.

"We have been summoned, thus we have come! You wish to negotiate the tax, and we're listening to your new proposal, althought we have to say that current agreement suits our interests very well."

A) "You will also add chest-fuls of your precious stones to the gold tax you're already paying every other year."
B) "I want some of your gemstones, too! On top of current tax, I demand you bring your jewels to my court every year!"
C) "Would you be interested in a switch? Gemstones every two years instead of simple coinage?"

9581
You continue stockpiling copper while you also send an envoy to your son - he's the proxy in this deal, after all.

"Other gems, sire?" The Advisor quirks a brow at you. "Do you mean dwarven gems, from Zonalath mines?"

A) "Absolutely! Fetch the Marshal, we're about to conquer some gem mines!"
B) "Indeed! Send a messenger to the dwarves, we ought to negotiate their tax!"

9582
3 votes for each option!? '<.

9583
Just to be clear, if we choose B for the second option, does that mean we contact the dwarves to negotiate for their gemstones?

That will be one of options, yes v:

9584
Only gold left now, I believe.

An biennial tax from dorfs, due this year actually v;

9585
You accept a return of portion of the spend funds.

Next, you grant audience to the envoy from Ceodwell.

"Greetings, good Duke! Your uncles have sent me with a query whether you would be willing to sell some of the grain that we heard has been harvested plenty this year in your Duchy, as our Kingdom unfortunately had bad luck with weather and harvests this year."

Unfortunately, you have none of surplus left - the diplomat leaves unhappy, giving you a bit of a glare too.

977 AD, Midwinter

Revenues from the gold mines arrive in Treasury on schedule.

977 AD, End of the Year

And again, the year comes to a close and the Scrolls of Kingdom Status land on your desk.

The Duchy prospers and grows stronger every day!

978 AD, Spring

One of the guards, Oen, that went with Ulan, has returned!

He brings his report; your son have spent most of the year coursing through the eastern plains, charting the outskirts of Gubta Empire before venturing straight southeast toward the populated areas and large settlements. They had to deal with bandits and cultists and mystics who could talk with spirits of dead people.

Then, they've spent few months in Gubtan heartlands, and then went east, into forests of trees and plants sparsely seen even in Kashite and Ceodwell. Ulan have heard of the Suravay people who have black skin and grow 'colors' on bushes, and decided to see those marvels with his own eyes.

Before the winter set in, the prince sent Oen to deliver you all these news, and to bring his notes and maps to your scribes. Ulan promises to return before the onset of the new decade.

978 AD, Mid-Spring

Ygwylla gives birth to another boy! She names this one 'Ceodwell', after your family.

978 AD, Late Spring

Terrible news! The veins of copper, both metal and malachite ores, have begun to thin out and run dry! The prospectors and miners believe that they might be able to continue profitable exploitation for another year.

"Sire, I believe we should sell the copper. It's obvious that by the time Calvendocians return, we won't have copper to sell them. Plus, what shall we do about the Damdamian trade deal?"

As for the stockpiled copper...

A) Keep stockpiling it for another year, just to make sure.
B) Just sell the stuff.

As for the trade deal with Damdamians...

A) Send a messenger to them explaining to them that you will have to cancel the deal after next caravan due to lack of resources.
B) Send a messenger to them explaining that you're running out of malachite gems, but you can sell them some other gems instead.

//Per usual, no split votes.
