F9, Spear Lieutenant E

9617
You have the money sent to your senior.

974 AD, Summer

There was a mighty hail and thunderstorms that went about the Duchy, destroying nascent crops. Fortunately, your Hurthling subjects managed to save the farmlands!

974 AD, Autumn

Queen of Lametania has abdicated for retirement. Your son, Salus, became the next King of Lametania! He has so far proven to be a sturdy, healthy man who isn't touched by fatigue nor sickness.

974 AD, Mid-Autumn

Your new wife, Ygwylla, gives birth to a boy! She has named him 'Yvin'.

Salus, King of Lametania, has sent you a letter; he asks you for monetary help, as the Kingdom that he had inherited has several tributes set up by the retired Queen to maintain peace with the Khanate and the Damdamians, and this year the Lametanian treasury is a bit empty.

A) Of course I will send my boy some money!
B) Nuh-uh, ain't got cash for that!

9618
You sign the papers and the papers are taken away.

973 AD, Winter

You marry Ygwylla in a splendorous ceremony attended by many nobles from across the Duchy. She is quite pretty, very talkative (if a bit loud), and you just cannot shake her off your arm.

973 AD, Midwinter

Taxmoney and gold mine revenues arrive at your Treasury!

973 AD, End of the Year

Happiness: 4
Population: 8
Economy: 6
Army: 4

After you finish perusing Scrolls of Kingdom Status, the Advisor coughs.

"This year we're law-bound to send tribute to Kingdom of Dahnia, my liege."

A) "Sure, go ahead and send the money, we've got enough."
B) "We need to postpone it a year. Write a letter to King Eón."
C) "*dramatically* NEVER."

9619
You decide to meet the girl whom you learn later is named Ygwylla.

973 AD, Mid-Autumn

The Marshal and the Advisor enter your study, and pile several scrolls upon your desk.

"It is done! The parchment is inscribed and orders are ready to be sent, my liege! No longer we shall rely upon draftees and peasants, but skilled and well-equipped soldiers!"

"All we need is your signature." Adds the Advisor.

"How long will it take?" "Few years, definitely less than a decade."

A) Sign the papers and begin modernization of the Army.
B) Stay with feudal levies and hired blades.

THAT'S IT!

You tell the Yardsmaster to keep an eye on the situation and call you in half an hour as you have an important guest from the Parliament.

You let Lord Enval on the situation the moment he sits down.

"A terrible tragedy, that." He muses. "Hopefully it won't bring any long-term damage to the yards. Now onto business at hand."

"Our military attache at Empire of Qinga has observed a battle between the Qinga torpedo boats and the Saravangi cruisers. The cruisers were overwhelmed 4 to 1 but the Saravangi lost all six cruisers and the Qinga lost only two torpedo boats. The Parliament and the Navy Office is in buzz! No one ever sent torpedo boats against cruisers like that, but it seems that torpedos will be the new kings of the sea."

"Therefore, the Parliament will soon be expanding on your budget. I, acting as the will of the Parliament, have come to ask you on your idea about how to potentially overcome the torpedo boats."

A) "Clearly, we need better armored cruisers!"
B) "Clearly, we should concentrate on submarines and torpedo boats ourselves!"
C) "Clearly... we need to design some fast, agile ship that can catch up and defeat the small torpedo boats."

9622
"Well my cousin, who is cousin of King Eón twice removed, has been always talking how she adores your martial prowess and how handsome you are. She is a stately young woman in her mid twenties, I think she has 27 winters behind her, and well, I think she would be up to the task of being your wife, my liege."

A) "This is a good proposal, please acquitance me to your cousin at once."
B) "I will be politely turning down that offer, thank you."

9623
I think it was top-down perspective, actually, rather than anything 3D ;v

A planet colonization game. You hopped from planet to planet, gaining better techs but meeting stronger opposition.

You had to carefully balance your 'energy', you could build power plants but needed colonists to run them, but colonist settlements needed power, and so on. I remember the game having an Academy where you could train/build advanced soldiers, plus a 'design bureau' where you developed techs.

Oh and there were transceivers to send power to places where you couldn't/didn't want to build power plants at.

The only movable structure was your Mothership, the primary source of energy and colonists. Thus the scenarios looked like this:

Mothership lands on planet -> build infrastructure -> build army -> research stuff -> destroy opposition -> fly to next planet, rinse&repeat.

It was a game from about 1998-2000.

You send the Army to deal with the problem.

And they do it! Though many hundreds of soldiers die, the locusts are eradicated, and their Mother Locust is slain in epic struggle in a big pit in the hills. Your soldiers are called heroes of the duchy.

You cancel the search for the Wizard.

973 AD, Autumn

"My liege, its been many years." One of the courtiers walks up to the throne. "And your side remains empty. Mayhaps it would be a good time to marry again?"

A) "Sure, if you have someone on mind."
B) "No, I'm not really interested in second wife."
C) "Yes, but I'm waiting for an offer from abroad."

9626
You send swift horsemen to look around the Duchy for a Wizard.

973 AD, Midsummer

Nobody saw a Wizard in the past month, not even across the border.

The locust situation grows worse - lately the horde fell upon and devoured a village of more than fifty peasants! Nothing but their shoes remained. Peasants and nobles in the southwest begin to grumble rather loudly that nothing is being done with this infestation.

A) They just gotta wait a bit more, surely a Wizard is just beyond the horizon.
B) Definitely its time to hire some lvl20 adventurers to deal with the problem.
C) Seems like our Army will be doing some locust-cleansing after all.

9627
You agree to spend the monies.

973 AD, Summer

"Locusts, sire! Locusts!!" The courtiers murmur as the terrified messenger from the western parts of the Duchy arrives.

"Locusts? There have been no locusts in these parts for centuries, not since the Age of Deserts-"

"No! Not normal locusts! Huge, like a horse, locusts! They chomp down everything! Livestock, pets, people!" The murmuring goes into shouting and gasps of terror.

"Where did they come from?"

"We d'nt know, sire!" The messenger takes off his hat and rolls it in his hands. "Once during a normal summer day, we heard a loud rumble come from the forest near our village, and next day those hideous giant insects attacked! Since then they spread to other places, and heard people saying they even munch on trees..." Something must be done to defeat these locusts, but... how do you fight a horde of giant locusts in the first place?

A) This is a job for lvl20 adventurers, who need to find the nest and kill the mother of all locusts, or something.
B) Our Army shall go and vanquish the alien insects from whatever place they came from!
C) Huge locusts don't appear on their own - clearly there's something supernatural about it, so we need to find a Wizard.

9628
//Also turns out I've been wrong with the dates; it's currently 972 AD

You let the two come up with a conscription system for Tven armies.

972 AD, End of the Year

The Advisor brings the Scrolls of Kingdom Status to you.

"As you can see, my liege, the recent additions to our territories included several heavily populated cities, and therefore our population rating has risen a lot! The Tax Collector has concluded that this amount of population, taxed on usual rates, will bring significant amount of tax money to our coffers."

"Also, I must remind you that next year is the year when we have to send tribute to Kings of Dahnia."

"Also also, our Treasury has a lot of things inside which, while our Army and our people have little of their own. Should we hire mercenaries to replenish our numbers, or maybe host festivals for the tired populace?"

A) "Mercenaries and circuses!"
B) "Nah, those won't be necessary."
C) "Only mercenaries, please."
D) "Only festivals, please."

9629
You spend some hours trying to explain to Ulan that military tactics and leadership are necessary for even the most pacifist off Kings.

He apologizes for his behavior, and, truly inspired by your speech, decides to excel in both mathematics and battle tactics.

971 AD, Midwinter

Revenues from the gold mines and taxes from the dwarves have arrived in the Treasury on schedule.

971 AD, Late Winter

Once upon a midnight dreary, when you're busy with paperwork, your Advisor and the Marshal arrive to speak with you.

"My liege!" The Marshal half-shouts as to not wake up other people in the palace. "The Advisor and I have stumbled upon a nice find in the library of governor of Luathbas!"

"A treatrise on the structure and logistics of Houlandine armies. It was some sort of mandatory scheme, whereas all youths are taken into the army camps for a year of training. And instead of noblemen providing their own armors, the state pays for equipment of every soldier and officer."

"That sounds costly." You say, and the Advisor nods.

"It is, but this would allow us to replenish our numbers much faster, and our men would have basic training no matter their age and status."

"Truly a boon, considering how violent our neighbourhood is lately, my liege!" The Marshal places hands on his waist.

"Should we begin working out our own system of mandatory draft, my liege?"

A) "AB-SO-LUT-LEEEY!"
B) "Naw, it will only consume money."

9630
By the morning, messengers go to the cities of Luthians, the ones that still resist or haven't been visited by your forces yet.

Within a week, the messengers come back; seven of remaining Luthian cities decided to surrender and bow to your authority. The cities besieged by Lametanians surrendered to them; one of easternmost cities of Alliance, Niann, declared independence from the rest of Alliance.

When prompted, the people of Luathbas surrender also, but as precaution you leave a large enough garrison to quell possible problems within the city.

With cities under your control, and officers cheering at victory, you conclude the campaign.

Congratulations! Estwalf did it again!

971 AD, Winter

The greatest battle might await you yet!

As soon as you return from victorious campaign, you receive a report from teachers of your oldest son at the court - Ulan.

"He is misbehaving, pays no heed to military lessons and does not wish to even be a martial leader. He is very smart and wise child, but even then he causes problems, my liege." You decide to...

A) Visit Ulan in his room and threaten him if he does not study.
B) Let Ulan do what he wants, clearly he has affinity to knowledge than war.
C) Visit Ulan in his room and explain him the importance of his studies.
