A reasonable proposal.

9632
You order your Army to form a defensive square and prepare to repel the attack.

The battle is soon joined as the horsemen officers, with some archers, are being seen leaving the forested area.

From the very start, the battle progresses very well for you. The initial push of the two groups is easily coutnerted and then your men begin to push. You order the rear ranks to split and form on the frontern lines, on the flanks, attempting an engulfing formation.

Within an hour, the Luthian mercenaries are fleeing! Only few of Luthian officers are seen fleeing on their horses, the rest has been killed along with almost half of the mercenary army.

You celebrate with your men this night, having beaten the Luthians again. Your senior officers however, have an idea on mind...

"My lord! We have vanquished many of Luthian forces and captured several cities and are besieging their largest and wealthiest one. Surely we should send an emissary to other Luthian cities and demand their peaceful turnover, lest they wish to bring themselves into worse ruin than they're already are?" Other officers nod and murmur in agreement - it's clear that they would, even if led into glory and victory by you, like to see this campaign concluded and go home.

Recent wars must've tired their spirits.

A) "Truly a splendid idea! Tomorrow, riders will be dispatched with messages to other cities' mayors."
B) "What manner of speech this is?! Be silent, and prepare for more conquering, lest I throw you into shackles!"
C) "No, not yet. We must land the Luthians a truly humilitating defeat - city of Luathbas must fall first!"

9633
About seven hundred remain in four camps around the city to keep watch on it, while you move your Army eastwards.

A day later, the two forces meet. Scouts report that Luthians are deploying in two flanks, separated by some wooded area in the centre. You order your Army to...

A) Form a long battleline and just march forward, crushing opposition equally!
B) Send most of troops to one flank to destroy it, while the other is preoccupied by smaller part of your forces.
C) Find a defensive position and form a defensive square.

This will become a glacier akin to Praef's game.
That glacier age is long gone. The only reason it is slowing down again is because players are being too slow and not eating chili dogs.

Age of Dragon Turtle

The Mini Ice Age

You decide to continue besieging Luathbas as is.

But after three days, you receive news - this new Army is moving towards you! They should be here within two days.

Your officers convene with you and two ideas take the lead amongst your staff: strenghtening of the camp or leaving for battle.

A) We can afford to entrench ourselves further and meet them under the walls of Luathbas.
B) We should leave part of the Army to continue the siege while other moves few hours east and prepares for battle.

9638
The envoy leaves with your decision.

971 AD, Mid-Autumn

And so, the siege of Luathbas continues.

971 AD, Late Autumn

Scout report!

A thousand and half strong body of mercenaries, led by two small regiments of Luthian pikemen, is camping in the far east, about two days travel on foot from Luathbas. They have naught horsemen except few officers.

From south, there's silence, except sporadic mentions of Lametanian banner being spotted on this road or that village.

The officers convene with you about the matter of Luthian Army, and you decide...

A) Leave a third of your forces to continue the siege while you lead your men to crush the Luthians once again.
B) To continue camping; they have neither numbers nor strength to dare challenge us in open battle.
C) Have your horsemen raid their camp and send them fleeing!

9639
You continue the siege.

971 AD, Autumn

And it does.

A week into Autumn, you receive in your tent a courtier from the palace.

"Greetings, Grand Duke!" Lord Mitain bows his head. "I bring news from the court. The harvests these year were bontiful but as we're at war and our Treasury isn't exceptionally well, the court decided against lavish festivals. There's also one more thing, it's about dwarves of Zonalath."

"What about them?"

"They're mining gemstones! Whole bags and small coffers of cut gemstones and gem trinkets leave their fortress annually! Our people found out after some bandits attacked one of their caravans, and amongst recovered loot was a whole load of chests of jewels with mark of their newest fortress. The court couldn't decide if the dwarves were simply making use of the area they're protecting or whether they made Lizardmen a pretext to open such profitable mines. Thus I was sent to seek your counsel, my lord."

A) "The dwarves already pay a tax every two years, no need to demand more."
B) "This means they have coffers full with money, and can easily pay us every year instead every two!"
C) "Treachery! The court ought to send for dwarves and have them release control of gem mines to us!"

You permit the attack on Luathbas, or rather bombardment of it.

You feel better enough to sit and meet with your commanders.

Their assault on the city was repelled, of course, but many a stone was catapulted over the wall and surely smashed lots of buildings and people, just like thick plumes of smoke attest for effectiveness of fire arrows.

They now wish to know what are your plans for Luathbas now.

A) Continue the siege.
B) Mount a full-scale attack!
C) Offer them a chance to surrender.

9642
You have him brought to your tent.

You offer him him a seat-

You feel a small blade strike you in the back! Then again! And again! You yell for guards as you try to grab your spear and punish the dishonorable dog yourself. He won't get away, you're sure of it even as you fall to the ground, bleeding from your pain-emitting lower body.

971 AD,

You wake up. You're in your tent, that's for sure. A man that you recognize as one of your healers is tending to your bandaged abdomen.

"Greetings, sire. It is utter relief to see your eyes open once again. The wounds have been deep, for such a small blade, but we had them cleaned and bandaged. You have slept for whole yesterday and today's morning also. You mustn't stand up yet. Your officers were furious to learn of the assassination attempt by a man wearing a Scarf of Truce. They had ordered catapults constructed and arrows wrapped in oil-soaked cloth. They prepare to rain hell and brimstone upon the dishonorable dogs of Luathbas."

A) "May the city burn forever."
B) "No burning, only siegeing."

9643
You march forth and besiege Luathbas with the start of the next morning!

971 AD, Late Spring

The siege continues.

971 AD, Summer

You receive a message from Queen of Lametania; her forces have successfully beaten a small Luthian army and she had her forces lay sieges to two cities that once belonged to Lametania. She can't spare any soldiers to help you with your own battles, though.

Weeks pass, and the siege continues.

971 AD, Midsummer

A week past Midsummer point, trumpets are heard and a lone envoy, wearing white scarf, rides out of the gates. Your soldiers bring him to the front of your tent, where you await.

"Grand Duke of Tven, I'm here to negotiate with you."

A) "Fine, let us seat inside the tent."
B) "Negotiate? Only thing we can negotiate is surrender of Luathbas, nothing else. If your masters think they can bargain for something else, you may very well return behind the walls already!"

9644
You have about 2200-2500 because I'm feeling generous due to all those nice rolls :P

9645
You charge your opponent!

His horse rather easily continues galloping after your lance skewers the knight and sends him to the ground.

The battle, of course, continues - he was a minor man with big ego and definitely bigger confidence values.

Your footsoldiers continue to press against the enemy forces till they break like a dam breaks under the constant pressure of water it tries to stop. But the Luthians do not surrender even if most of their mercenaries are now gone.

Still, it only prolongs the battle and as the sun slowly moves past its zenith, the battle is resolved.

You have won against the Luthian Alliance's possibly biggest army so far!

By the next morning, your scouts nad horsemen return, bearing captives and boasts of their pursuits, plus reports from the countryside.

The remnants of Luthian forces have fled east and then north, finding safe haven in Luathbas. No one decided to fly and strengthen the garrison of the southern cities. As officers gather for a meal, you consider your options...

A) The best course of action would be to send some men to besiege Luathbas while the majority under your command goes 'diplomacize' the lesser cities into submission.
B) We should rest and recuperate while riders go south and north to ask for reinforcements and new recruits, respectively!
C) Such a big, victorious battle should be complimented by a big, victorious siege - to Luathbas!
