You order the soldiers to seal the pit themselves with local rocks.

It's a hard thing to do.

They force a small avalanche! A dozen or so soldiers dies under the weight of snow and rocks.

But the rocks and boulders are steadily rolled down into the tunnel.

And then finally, one morning, by a stroke of luck, few rolling stones cause a rockslide that rolls right into the tunnel, bringing tons of material down the pit. Once the dust settles, the tunnel is blocked, and only few wisps of smoke rise from within.

You hold a council with your senior and your officers, and conclude the campaign.

Congratulations! Estwalf successfully concludes the Second campaign to Repel the Lizardmen of the Depths!

As you leave the vicinity of mountains, and the moment to split ways with King Tinwulf grows near, you hear some chatting of your officers, and speak to them.

They think that you should thank King Tinwulf II for assistance in one way or another.

A) Indeed! Time to invite our glorious senior to Tven capital, where there will be a military parade and feast to celebrate the joint victory!
B) Thank him? We've been supplying him with stuff for years now, it's about time he left his home country and supported us instead!
C) Indeed! We will send a small tribute of coin to Dahnia next year.

9767
You fortify the pit and send a messenger to Ankurvat. Hopefully he will get to them fast despite the winter conditions.

967 AD, Midwinter

A messenger from the capital has arrived; Lametania once again got into financial troubles, this time not Damdamian-related, and sought some money from the your Treasury; the court has decided to send the money south.

967 AD, Late Winter

One night, screams and shouts of alarm erupt about the camp. A pack of lizardmen exited the pit!

Quote

You have the unfortunate distinction of getting a lizard tearing into your guard detail! The wild being with a crude hammer rushes you!

Quote
7*

But you easily slay the beast, despite smoke and darkness working against you. And then you lead a glorious charge that sees many lizards (and humans) die in a bloody carnage!

By the time moon begins its descent toward the horizon, the battle is over and you're surrounded by corpses of lizardmen. Your soldiers hail you as a 'Lizardslayer', in respect of your victories against the lizards thus far!

A week later, the messenger sent to Ankurvat arrives.

"My liege! The dwarves of Ankurvat said they have no time for you and your troubles this winter, but said that they might come in Summer time if you want."

A) Pfft, by then we will be overrun by lizards. Time to seal the pit ourselves and go home!
B) Time is of the essence and we need dwarves; let's send the envoy to Zasitost instead!
C) So be it, we will watch over the pit till Summer next year!

Aww ye mastahcheese welcome back bruh.

* Haspen all the hugs.

King Tinwulf II does not object your counter-proposal.

Soon the Tven and Dahnian soldiers pour between the two mountains, against the camp of lizards!

Only then you notice that due to the lack of space, your trops cannot attack in full but have to come in waves!

Quote

The lizards come and fight like beasts they are; for each lizard there are three or more dead and wounded amongst your people! Six fiery lizards are felled, but their blasts of flame sear and scorch dozens of soldiers.

Quote
2*

But then the front of your Army collapses under the massive counter-attacks, and a path is open toward you; one of the largest, blue-scaled lizards flails his club as he attacks you!!

Quote
5*

The fight is fierce and you dodge the club several times, the huge impressions in the dirt giving you an idea what would happen to your body if the lizard would score just a single hit. But you don't give him any other opportunities; soon you stab him in the neck and he falls. With an angry yell to the heavens, you smash your spear right into its skull, the pitiful screech mixing with the sickening crunch of mauled skull.

The lizard overlord is slain by your hand!!

Unfortunately it doesn't look like the lizards are running away. Truly they know no fear!

Quote

You rejoin the battle and direct the combined forces as your senior and his banner-holder are nowhere to be seen nearby; but with the loss of fiery drakes, the lizards of the depths do not fight like before; less humans die, and the scaled beastmen fall more easily.

As the sky turns orange from late afternoon hours, only a handful of lizardmen remain in the camp, the leftovers, the ones to pick up arms the last. Your men on other hand have numerical superiority; hopefully this will be the last stage of this bloody battle.

Quote
6*

The victory comes swiftly; none of the lizards surrender and they fight to their last, taking down with themselves as many brave Tven and Dahnian men they could.

As the wounded are taken to tents and the chaos of battle is worked out, you finally meet with your senior; turns out his group was engaged on the other side of the camp. Much like you, King Tinwulf II is soaked in the blood of the lizards.

"Damned beasts fight too well!" He says with a grin. "And I thought Trolls were troublesome." You two share a laugh.

A camp is set outside the ruined site of lizards, as your men are wary to approach the still-fuming pit in the earth. It has been measured; thirty feet tall, and a gentle slope is descending into its smoke-filled darkness. Definitely a man-carved (or, rather, lizard-carved) tunnel. 212 lizard corpses were accounted along with five of their orange beasts of fiery destruction, but over 750 humans perished to achieve this victory.

By the morning, the pit is still fuming, and some men of better hearing report they heard hissing coming from the pit. Council is held, and the decision is made to...

A) Fortify the area around the pit and call the dwarves to come seal it or something.
B) Pile up rocks and boulders into the hole to fill it up.
C) Retreat from this place lest a new army of lizards catches you by surprise.

You decide to prepare an all-out attack into the lizard's camp.

"Shall we attack from two directions?" Your senior asks.

A) "Nay, my King, we need all the numbers we can get."
B) "A sound idea, this will cause confusion amongst the lizards!"

9772
You attempt to convince your senior to do an enveloping tactic...

Quote
6

"If you say so." Your senior then directs his soldiers to cooperate with yours to form a half-crescent. The lizards soon come against you!

Quote

The lizards bring forth a pair of the large orange reptiles WHO SPIT FIRE! Men and horses alike perish before the jets of liquid-y flames that the beasts breathe.

But that won't save the lizards! The tactic pays off and the numbers overwhelm the lizardmen, crushing them into scaly paste. Their two terrifying orange firespitters, while horrible to meet, soon fall under rain of arrows and charge of lances! The Ancient Terror itself bathes in blood of one of these orange beasts, adding to the purple gore of the lizardmen on its shaft.

Tven and Dahnian soldiers celebrate the victory together as your senior approaches, his armor and beard stained with the purple blood of the lizardmen.

"T'was a mighty battle! It was wise to follow your instructions."

By the evening your scouts, who rode a bit further than others, return; another campsite is in the mountains, around a large smoking hole in the mountainside. Thick, rust-colored smoke rises from the hole. The scouts aren't sure but they believe that the lizardmen number at least four hundred, and they have at least five of these big, orange, six-legged fiery beasts of destruction with them.

You convene with your senior and high-ranking officers, and decide to...

A) Attempt to draw part of the lizard army out.
B) Prepare an attack into the heart of their camp.
C) Entrench, rest, recuperate, and maybe get some local volunteers?

9773
Hunters roam the nearby areas in search for a camp; by the next day, they come back bearing news of their findings.

The combined armies of Tven and Dahnia, numbering almost four-and-half thousand now, march forward. It doesn't take long to reach the hidden camp; and it doesn't take long either for the lizards to get agitated and rush you!

"The mindless beasts are charging! We should meet them head on and slaughter them with our superior numbers!" Your senior brandishes his sword.

A) "Uh, no, we should make a half-crescent formation and then crush the lizards completely!"
B) "My liege, I think we should instead form thick defensive lines and let the lizards crash upon them."
C) "Indeed! To battle!!"

9774
You have the campsite fortified and your soldiers await reinforcements.

Quote

Two mornings later, the trumpets announce the arrival of King Tinwulf II "The Trollslayer", and his almost three thousand soldiers, at your camp!

Your senior meets with you immediatelly and you two exchange pleasantries, before you brief Tinwulf on the fights with the lizards; about hunting parties, about their strength, their night-time attacks. He strokes his long brown beard for a while.

"We shouldn't tarry on, then. What I have learned during fighting with the Trolls is that they are predisposed to fighting at night. You should send your men to find the lizards' man camp and we should strike it when the sun is high."

A) "That is a sound advice, I will send scouts and hunters immediately. Once their camp is found, we attack!"
B) "Apologies, your Majesty, but I think we should stay here and await for another skirmish with a small group of hunters."

9775

9776
You decide to get into open battle iwth the lizard during the day, when they can't hide in darkness and sneak upon you.

Few hours later, the lizards are met in battle!

Quote
7*

You utterly crush the opposition! The hunting party of 40-something lizards is destroyed completely, and this time you lose only twice that number of soldiers yourself.

As you reach the site of first encampment and first battle, the scouts report that no more lizard parties are coming toward you.

A) Splendid! We shall therefore entrench and wait for King Tinwulf to arrive with his men!
B) Onwards then! We will smash into the lizards when they least expect us!

9777
You call a tactical retreat southeast, half a day march from the current location.

The next evening, a new camp is ready for action, if action ever comes. You also receive a messenger; King Tinwulf II have personally embarked with almost two thousand foot and thousand cavalry to help you against the scaly menace from under the mountains, but the heavy weather conditions in Dahnia mean that it might take them a week if not more before they join you.

Four days later you get news about the lizards; another hunting party was spotted coming eastwards, picking through the remains of previous campsite and then going straight after you.

A) We won't get attacked in middle of night again! Time to send our troops against them and meet when conditions are more favorable to us.
B) Fortify the camp, post more sentries and get some more illumination going on, so even in middle of night we will be ready!

9778
You fortify your camp and double the amount of sentries.

Quote
2*

You're woken up in the dead of night by screams of your soldiers and sounds of alarms! The lizards have snuck upon the camp and were spotted only as they began their rush from darkness into the light of the torches! Many a soldier were caught unprepared and were swiftly killed by their crude yet deadly axes and clubs.

You quickly pull up your pantaloons and take charge of the defense!

Quote
4*

Under your guidance, your soldiers manage to slowly grind the sudden attack into a halt...

Quote
6*

...and then a lizard carnage! None of the lizards surrender and all die fighting and bleeding upon piles of corpses of your soldiers.

By the morning, the wounded are taken care of and bodies accounted. Over hundred fifty of Tven soldiers perished and thirty-two lizard corpses were burnt. The scouts swear there should be more lizards though - which means few turned back before the assault.

You convene with your military advisors. They say it surely was a probing attack of sorts. You decide to...

A) Attempt to draw out another party of lizards into the camp and slowly bleed them out this way.
B) March forward to their camp and give them a thorough killing!
C) Abandon this site, retreat southeast a little bit, and regroup.

9779
You muster your Army and leave the Palace, preparing for some war.

Congratulations! Estwalf embarks on another military campaign!

As your horsemen go to the mountains to act as scouts and to harass the lizards in hopes of learning their intentions and weaknesses (if any), a lone messenger is sent with haste to King Tinwulf II, requesting military aid to deal with the lizards.

Several days later, the scouts return, alarmed; a group of 40 lizards have been tracking them for a while now and is nearing your camp.

A) Time to strengthen the camp, then.
B) Let's use the same half-crescent, engulf-and-destroy battle formation like before!
C) Only forty? Let's march forward and crush them in show of pure numerical strength!

9780
You leave the idea of re-marrying for later time.

967 AD, Winter

One of the mountains explodes and sent forth a wave of angry lizards!

Your scouts report that your peoples fled the immediate surroundings of the collapsed mountain. The large, rugged lizards are back and have begun setting up camps in the hills, seemingly not affected by the mild, rainy winter at all. The worst news is that they have brought with them three large orange six-legged lizards; using thin white ropes to guide them around.

An emergency council of war is set and several issues are decided upon there.

As for the strategy...

A) Let's use scouts to gain information and horsemen to harass the lizards, but we shall avoid confrontation for now.
B) Let's prepare our Army for GLORIOUS BATTLE OF MASSIVE SCALE!!

As for your participation in the campaign...

A) BUT OF COURSE!
B) I'm gonna stay at the palace this time.

As for calling someone to help...

A) Help? We don't need help, silly!
B) We shall call upon our senior to provide military aid!
C) We shall call upon dwarves to help defeat our mutual foe!
D) We need all help we can get - time to send envoys to Dahnia and Ankurvat!

//Remember no split votes and so on.
