You decide against such measures.

963 AD, Spring

A message arrived from the Marshal. The city of Eachos has fallen! The starved and angry populace opened the gates allowing for the stubborn zealot garrison to be eradicated by your soldiers. The city received portion of Army supplies so the citizens won't turn against their new overlords.

The Marshal of course asks for instructions. You ask him to...

A) March northwards and put a pincer on Eist mainlands just like your good senior asked earlier.
B) Conclude the campaign and return home with your Army.
C) Besiege the third and last fortified city in the area.

You thank him for the report.

Few days later you get news from around the land; the exotic foodstuffs, fine cloth and luxurious items from Calvendocia found many buyers amongst nobility and merchant class. Even some peasantry managed to get hold on the foreign items. People feel happier and your coffers swell with income from being in the trade!

962 AD, End of the Year

After a brief council with the local governors about recent wave of turnip thievery, the Advisor bumps into you and you get to glance at the Scrolls of Kingdom Status.

Happiness: 3
Population: 4
Economy: 2

"Our spending on war supplies this year have drained the Treasury, sire. Shall we do something about this?"

A) "Nah."
B) "Disband part of the Army so we can cash in supplies, armor and so on."
C) "Raise the taxes for a year, of course!"

9859
You inquiry whether supplies, not troops, could be welcomed by King Tinwulf.

Quote

"I have spoken with King Tinwulf about such an alternative before I left for the Duchy," the envoy explains, "And King Tinwulf said it would be adequate if supplies will be sent instead."

Next day, loads upon loads of food, cloth, arrows nad bolts, along with a large supply of coin, leaves your palace with the envoy and many guards.

962 AD, Late Winter

A messenger from the Marshal arrives; thanks to the supplies, they were able to continue the siege and the agents speak that citizens of Eachos are suffering while your soldiers have full bellies and warm clothes to wear.

'Just a little more,' the Marshal was heard saying.

Few days later you are spooked out by the Spymaster while walking through a dimly-lit corridor.

"Our agents have managed to compile a report on the quicksilver." You nod at the Spymaster. "The Kiwi use quicksilver, and so do the Damdamians. Furthermore, the Kiwi have no cinnabar mines, but the dwarves they trade with, and Calvendocians as well, have access to cinnabar ore from which quicksilver is produced."

A) "Clearly, the Kiwi are behind this. Let's repay the favor with our own murderous plots!"
B) "Clearly, the dwarves are behind this. Let's repay the favor with our own murderous plots!"
C) "Clearly, the distant Calvendocians are behind this. Let's make them cry by forfeiting the trade agreement with them!"
D) "Thank you, I will keep that in mind."

9860
You agree to get supplies to the besieging forces.

The envoy of King Tinwulf II is let in next.

"Greetings! I bring orders from King Tinwulf! He wishes for the Tven army to move northwards and engage Eist in its mainlands, as negotiations broke down once again and King Tinwulf decided to put some pressure on the zealot King and his stubborn court." You decide to...

A) Explain that you're laying siege to an Eist city and have spent too much to give up on it now.
B) Ask if instead of soldiers, King Tinwulf would be satisfied with war supplies.
C) Accept the orders and have the guards catch up with Marshal's messenger, telling him about this change of plans.

9861
You meet with the messenger first.

"Greetings! I bring news of the siege." And he tells you that the siege is still going as the city in question stubbornly refuses to surrender, albeit the agents already gather numerous rumours and sayings of discontent in the city of Eachos.

"The Marshal thus asks for more supplies, as winter is harsh and the Army has been laying siege to the city for a while." You decide to...

A) Procure and send the supplies to the besieging forces.
B) Lift the siege and conclude this military campaign.
C) Tell them to make do with what they have.

You order the Spymaster to send his agents west and seek out the truth behind this assassination attempt!

962 AD, Midwinter

You have an envoy from King Tinwulf II to deal with, just as a messenger from the Marshal arrives as well.

A) Let's talk with the messenger first.
B) Let's talk to the envoy first.

Vodka Drunkenski is accepted the next Chairman of Kominstan on the 33th Party Commitee Congress.

The same afternoon, Vodka Drunkenski is given the traditional gifts of Kominstan for politicians who begin working on a new 'seat' - a bottle of fine Frankish cognac and keys to Vodka's first car ever.

He is also presented with the Monthly Report on the Status of Kominstan:

Quote
1,1,2,1

Civic Loyalty: 5
Population Level: 5
Monetary Assets: 6
Military Strength: 5
Worldly Reputation: 2 (Aligned with USMR*)

Kominstan is doing fine, and thanks to the recent reforms in the agriculture sector, enjoyed some economical prosperity.

The same evening, Vodka Drunkenski is put before his first dilemma ever: the Party Commitee allocated the budget already for the next year and there is shortage of funds for two organizations. These are Kominstan's National Railroads and Party Youth Organization of Kominstan.

Railroads are absolutely necessary if the trains are to reach all the stations of Vodka's glorious nation on time (and the people would prefer them to be on time, for once).

Youth Organization is absolutely required to maintain a healthy growth of the kids' bodies and brains (so they don't get corrupted by any pesky capitalist, liberalist or religious thoughts).

Minimal required funds allocated to KNR and PYOK are currently evenly split. Vodka Drunkenski's first decision will be...

A) Shifting funds to KNR's national bank account only so at least the trains will be running on time.
B) Shifting funds to PYOK's national bank account only so at least the kids will be given proper care.
C) Keeping the funds evenly split between KNR and PYOK, as both are necessary for Kominstan's prosperity.
D) Petitioning the Allied Nations Council for monetary aid for Kominstan.

You decide to leave the siege to the Marshal, taken eleven trusted bodyguards and then you ride westwards with haste.

Congratulations! Estwalf has quit the military campaign.

You return to the Palace within four days.

Much to your surprise, your wife, weak and bedridden, is still alive.

"Good news, my liege." The advisor bows his head. "The healers managed to draw out the quicksilver out of Queen Stela.

You query how, as quicksilver is a liquid highly toxic.

"I do not know how. I just know they did. Or maybe it was the One or the Pantheon that decided to spare her life, who knows." You then hold a council with some of the more politically and economically inclined courtiers about this situation. They inform you that the Calvendocian merchants surely had to pass through the lands of the nomads, then the Kiwi, and then through at least one of the small city-states on their way to Tven.

A) Clearly the Calvendocians are spies and hired assassins and not merchants! Suspend the trade at once and arrest the whole bunch!
B) Clearly it must be Kiwis, jealous of our power, our profits, or angry about our refusal to help them against the nomads. Declare war upon them at once!
C) Clearly... we do not have enough evidence. The Spymaster should send an investigation party into the western lands!

9867
You order the Army to go catch up with and annihilate the fleeing enemies.

They do a rather bad job at it. Hundred or so gets killed while many more than that manage to escape. Oh well.

962 AD, Late Autumn

The siege of Eachos continues after the battle with reinforcements was resolved.

962 AD, Winter

And it continues.

As the first snow begins to fall upon the roofs of your Army's tents, you receive two bits of news from the capital:

Your wife gave birth to another boy that she named Atan.

Your wife has been poisoned during or after a banquet of foods imported from Calvendocia! The Calvendocian merchants were arrested until the Spymaster's agents determined that Queen Stela was poisoned not by foreign spices but rather by quicksilver sneakily applied into her dishes. You decide to...

A) Call off the siege and return home at once to your pained wife.
B) Leave the Army under control of the Marshal and fly to the palace with handful of bodyguards.
C) Send your dearest wife a letter of love and a prayer for her health.
