Also, it would be amazingly effective at keeping immigrant nobles away.   :D
Or you could just give them a balcony.

All that comes to mind is that it kind of sounds like they can't reach the stockpile.

Anyone remember when Toady used to take those? I am starting to forget.
Probably whenever you needed him to pull a lever.

Also, signed.

Be aware that a elf-looking kid in green clothes might turn up and ask to borrow it so that he can get a new sword.

Maybe it tried to squeeze between the bars, and partly succeeded.

Nobangmuthir (Dismalcolumn)
This is a Silver short sword. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encrusted with Native silver. This object menaces with spikes of Silver. On the item is an image of Dismalcolumn the Silver short sword in Silver.

Wait, there's an image of the sword on the sword itself?  Does that mean that the image of the sword has an image of the sword, and that image's image has an image of the sword, and that image's image's image's has an...
It's not that unusual. From what I remember, Planepacked had at least three images of itself on it.

Check all your dwarves to see if any of them have a +Death Note+.

That is why I mentioned I wouldn't want to be anywhere near when they tried it.  It could work, but it could also go horribly wrong beyond anyone's control quickly.

Sounds dwarvy. Too bad we can't savescum earth or gen a new world.
How do you know we can't? Clearly there needs to be more research on finding Earth's save folder! And then we could make a few copies, keep them dormant, and test out each plan to check.

Of course, we could always just download another copy of 'Existence Fortress' off the net and get playing with that. I think this version is bugged anyway.
Do you know how long it took to gen Earth last time?! Lowest estimate I've seen was six days.

Just had a guy go melancholy because nobody wanted to eat turtle. What kind of inconsiderate ghost possesses people when they're trying to sleep then starts demanding shells?

I seem to have had a donkeysplosion while I was busy supervising the mines and tower. The dwarves were probably getting sick of plump helmets anyway.

Also had a failed mood because nobody would eat the damn turtles, so now there's a sad dwarf moping around somewhere.

The western mine's started paying off; I've found bismuthinite, cassiterite, heliodore, kunzite, some brown gem I can't remember the name of, and nearly enough pitchblende to be useful for the Pointless Tower.

I've not got round to trying it myself, but I've heard that spending points on mining skill isn't really necessary; it levels pretty quickly, so as long as you still bring picks and enable the labour, the only real loss is that mining's slower early on and you'll have a bit less stone.

Bit of a story follows:

so in pre engineering, my partner and I are working on a coin op vending machine. We were having problems making something to collect the coins when I suddenly think "Ryan cancels help partner: strange mood". I look up and my partner has grabbed a piece of PVC pipe and is walking towards the machine room/ materials stash. I ask him whate he is going to make. All he says is " you'll see.". My first thought?

Ryan has claimed a drill press
Ryan has begun a mysterious construction

Creepy thing? Dwarf I named after him in my fortress had a strange mood and siezed a mechanics workshop. Built some VERY nice mechanisms
Bet you're glad he didn't loose a roaring laughter, fell and terrible.

Pfft, everyone knows magma can't be pressurized.
ANYWAY
Pour magma on it, it solves all the other problems, why not this one?
Come to think of it, water might work pretty well too. Just make it the world's biggest obsidian farm.

My current fort has no magma, so the metal industry's pretty slow. Naturally, the game is taunting me by naming the fort "Steelglow". (And giving me tons of bauxite.)
