DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Eccentric player behaviors

I've just noticed that for some reason I avoid using diagonal entrances to rooms. Maybe they just bug me because it doesn't look like anything would be able to get through.

Having completely failed to find any magma in the vicinity of Steelglow (ironic, considering the name), I'm starting to realise just how useful it is. Anything involving metal feels like it's taking ten times longer because I have to prepare tons of fuel as well.

Human caravan just arrived, immediately followed by a goblin siege. The traders just sat in my depot refusing to trade, and left (and got slaughtered) as soon as I lowered the drawbridge to let my soldiers out. On the upside, the caravan guards managed to take out most of the siegers before dying.

2) Add 'reflecting pools' through the center of the corridors.  Aside from looking pretty, this could make it easier to string together your city's waterworks, providing for possible water-based defenses.
Like miniature canals? That does sound good.

Why dont have a 5 zlevel-ish pit below the dwarf face then have the mouth made of retracting bridges so he can open his mouth?
The trick then would be making sure that they land in his mouth.

I've got a goblin that somehow trapped himself in a trench outside the fortress. I'm trying to decide between sending a marksdwarf (once I've got one beyond "Dabbling"), or just trying to drown it by channeling a pond into the trench.
Invaders are perfect swimmers.  They will never drown unless there is a roof immediately over their heads.
Crossbow it is, then. Well, the miners would probably have been "interrupted by goblin" anyway.

I believe Einstein had a theory on just that subject.
I was it Newton?
Newton, probably. Einstein's busy working out how vermin can teleport.

If they're not suicidal, why do they ALWAYS--- ALWAYS.
Deconstruct the last floor/dig the final channel/build the closing wall ON THE WRONG SIDE!
Because common sense is for humans.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Stealing stuff from caravans...
« on: November 05, 2009, 09:45:25 am »
I have also read on the forums that the reverse works on elves. The less they get, the move they give next year. And it was going to be elves I was going to steal from. All they brought was wood and some emerald dye...

Actually, the thing with elves is that high profits make them try to bring more valuable goods (as is the case with all caravans), and to them, cloth seems to be the most valuable good they can bring (since they can't make stuff out of metal or valuable stone); unfortunately, since they don't bring wagons, they try to load their donkeys and mules with so much cloth that nothing else fits and you end up with a caravan bringing nothing but cloth.
Ah, so that's it. Two years in a row they've brought me nothing but a handful of berries and a few tons of rope reed cloth. Will they start bringing useful stuff again if I just ignore them every time they come?

Find a shallow bit of sea and make Holland. Then you can build something else on it. :)

The great maze.

A 100x100x100 cube of randomly built walls, supports, and empty space
With a minotaur in the centre?

Better. fill it with water, and CARP
Oh, and maybe colour it so that it looks like a Rubik's Cube from the outside. :)

To make it even funnier... the Dungeon Master was helping her fill the Swimming Pool, when he suddenly snapped (no Tomb, poor Room) and threw a tantrum. Fortunately, instead of punching her out, he ran out into the corridor and broke both the legs of a passing tame Horse.
"Both" legs of a horse?
