DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Revenge on someone who ambushes you?
« on: January 28, 2011, 12:40:24 am »
I have a revenge story, but the only reason I was exacting revenge upon this poor guy was because I didn't get to just kill him in the first place.

Way back in the days of .40D, I played a dwarven adventurer, all clad in his steel gear and ready to go. I decided, "Hey, let's massacre that entire human civ over there", as you do.

At any rate, I killed everyone. Except for this one damn swordsman. I never saw the man, but later when my adventurer died to something unrelated, I saw that he had fled the town while I was murdering everyone (In legends mode). I had even killed several large migrating groups, but not this guy.

He had fled to an elven forest retreat and was standing around there, for some reason. Goodness knows why he ran to the elves, but I decided that they needed a bit of genocide too. Made a new character, slaughtered all the elves. Couldn't find this god damn swordsman. Savescummed so I could go into legends mode. The fucker had fled once again. Where now, you ask? The dwarves. My own civ. So, I did what any deranged psycho adventurer (aka, all of them) would do.  I massacred everything in my path.

Down, down, down into the mountainhome I went, killing everyone I found with my mighty axe. Finally, I find the bastard. Sitting there in the king's room. With three crossbowdwarves. I charge in, chop down the king. Bolts bounce off my armour. I slaughter the three crossbowdwarves. The swordsman chooses not to flee this time. He comes running. First swing, and I lose an arm. My shield arm. I return the favour, and all we have are our weapon arms. We take swings at each other, every time doing some horrendous damage to one another. Within a few rounds, we're bleeding out all over the ground. With one swing, he takes my head off, and bleeds to death the next round.

Totally worth it.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: "Tell them it was the Pure Picks..."
« on: January 27, 2011, 09:51:11 pm »
Now that you talk of throwing stuff, that makes me want to try throwing picks at enemies. Just BECAUSE!

You'll go far in this world when you start throwing picks at your enemies
I do this all the time.

I once shot and killed a guy. By throwing a pick through his head.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: What is your fighting style?
« on: January 27, 2011, 09:48:10 pm »
For some reason, I've discovered that punching a guy is far more effective than walloping him with a maul. My legendary hammerman was having trouble overcoming the fact that people actually wore armour, so we both decided it'd be better if we just punched heads in. I punched a guy in the chest, broke his spine. I punched a guy in the head, broke his brain.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: So does Toady one like Disturbed?
« on: January 19, 2011, 04:56:53 am »
Oh man, I love Disturbed.

I like to play 'Indestructible' while adventuring.
(It doesn't work.)

I recently downloaded Dwarf Fortress (the latest version) for a quick test run. This didn't end up quick, nor a test run, because I shortly figured out I can stab people in the face. I've been stuck in a .40d world, and this is like man inventing fire!

Personally, I think Women in general are sexy
some of them, anyway
It's generally 50-50 if you ask me. More 60-40 for guys, leaning on unnattractive being more common. I dunno why, but you just don't see as many attractive men as you see attractive women...

I love tentacles.
Tentacles, gearheads, prosthetics
Well everybody can appreciate detachable arms.

Hurrah!

...It loses the "OMG RAW EGGS" factor when combined with milk and sugar)

It doesn't even need the milk to lose the raw egg factor. I found out that in the Piemontese region of Northern Italy, they sometimes in cold weather simply drink raw egg + sugar. It's delicious.

Ten thousand registered volunteers in Brisbane.

Registered volunteers.

My mouth is agape. I doubt I'll be closing it any time soon.
Wow, cool!
I usually live in Victoria, but I ... kind of left the country before the floods. I'm currently on exchange in Italy (which is cool), but even over here I get all sorts of news about the floods. It sounds pretty horrible over there. But, us Aussies are a tenacious breed that don't mind lendin' a hand to the guy over there, and we've pulled through thick and thin! Aussie Aussie Aussie! Oi Oi Oi!

General Discussion / Recipe Thread - For ALL recipes!
« on: January 15, 2011, 09:20:47 am »
Because the other recipe thread decided on having a theme to their recipes for a week, and because I could not honestly see 'Australian Cuisine' becoming a theme, I've decided to make my own thread.

List any recipes you have. Any at all, as long as they make something fit for human consumption at the end (e.g, no dwarven sugar roasts). It might also help to drop them into a spoiler tag with a title on it, for easy browsing.

Spoiler: ANZAC biscuits (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Lamington cake (click to show/hide)

And there you go. Enjoy!

Does wearing boots/gauntlets improve the damage done by kicks/punches?
No, unfortunately. Just like a weapon covered in spikes doesn't do any more damage.

Dwarf Fortress is a highly-acclaimed and complex roguelike game that also combines aspects of strategy and "god" games. There are two modes: Fortress Mode, where you take run a settlement of dwarfs, and Adventure Mode, which is like a typical roguelike game.
Thank you robot, for that thrilling explanation. I am now off to by some of your persian rugs.

Anyway, my friend has this obsession with (a certain sort of) bears, so I made him a bearman race (way back in 40d though). The funny thing was, the moral codes I gave them ended up having them in just about EVERY ARMY EVER. Literally, the battle lists listed, say:
Code: [Select]
A:40 humans, 20 arctodus bearmen
D:32 goblins, 1 demon, 10 arctodus bearmen
Constantly.

YOU WANNA GO MATE. RIGHT'O THEN, C'MON, LET'S GO. *boomerang*

but seriously I'm posting this recipe wether you like it or not.

EDIT: YA KNOW WHAT MATE, YOU CAN BUGGER OFF (in the kindest manner possible of course). I'll just make my own thread. For recipes. All the recipes. Not just some of them. MATE.

(for clarification, I'm not trying to be hostile. Just trying to be silly. :3)
